Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars His best along with his second album.......2005-01-30

This album is Pena Suazo in his prime. I liked it from the time I purchased in '96 and I am still inspired by it today. Although I stopped collecting albums from this band a few years ago, this one stands out amongst the ones I own along with "Candela Pura". This one has the combination of what makes Pena Suazo mambo-merengue unique i.e. fast rhythms, hard-hitting beats, crazy lyrics. Check it out, esta durisimo.

5 out of 5 stars El rey del mambo?? Claro que si..............2002-01-23

Well I must say that Jose Pena Suazo is very unique. I mean from beginning to end, there's nothing else but great hits on this album. "Tu muere aqui" "El negro pega con to" "Cuarto bate" "El dolor" etc. Are all very nice. Jose Pena Suazo displays how a lot of people are really like on this album, as well as on the rest of his music. The reason that I say that he is so unique is because there's not too many other musicians out there that can write and arrange every single one of their own music by themselves, and come out with a bunch of hits all over the place.
Look, there's a lot of good mambo and lyrics on this album. "THAT'S WHY HE IS THE KING OF THE MAMBO"............
"PapyDavid" #1 (EL PUNAL).........

5 out of 5 stars This album is the bomb!!!!!.......2000-11-24

I have owned this album for a couple of years and it never gets old. From the opening song "Rey del Mambo" to the end, the album never slows down. La Banda Gorda plays at a very fast pace which is just how I like it. The musical arrangements are fantastic and Pena always writes cleverly funny lyrics. The later albums are also excellent, but this album should be used as your starting point. This is an excellent starter for anyone interested in Merengue.
