Excellent example of the "new" mariachi music.......2003-01-22

With more than 20 years as a singer-actress, the beautiful mexican Diva delivers her fifth studio ranchero album with the title of "Un nuevo amor".
This album includes 10 songs of different rhythms and topics, produced by three top names of the latin music scenario.
Songs like "Que alguien me diga" (a cover, written by the talented salsa songwriter Omar Alfano), "Por ti" (written by the mexican singer and songwriter Oscar Chavez)and "Me gusta" (written by Marco Flores who has previously worked with Gloria Estefan and Thalia) are produced by Homero Patron, a well-known mexican producer who has been involved in the albums of other ranchero singers like Vicente and Alejandro Fernandez. This is the first time Lucero works with Patron and the result is just wonderful!
A memorable song from this album is "Carta a Eufemia" which is a cover from the original song made popular years ago by the mexican idol, Pedro Infante. The writer and producer of this song is the same that worked with Infante, Ruben Fuentes, who has produced Lucero's prior ranchero albums.
Estefano is a well-known singer, songwriter and producer that has delivered many hits for several latin singers, such as Thalia, Paulina Rubio, Julio Iglesias, Gloria Estefan and Chayanne. In Lucero's "Un nuevo amor" Estefano writes and produces two ranchero ballads, "Lo he intentado todo" and "A quien voy a engañar".
With such a team of producers, songwriters and Lucero's impish voice, "Un nuevo amor" is a delightful album in which you can feel the hapiness of the mexican mariachi music.
You can't imagine a cumbia performed by a mariachi band? Listen to "Como te voy a olvidar"...I bet you'll dance!!
The songs deliver a wide variety of feelings, from sadness to happiness, from disdain to love.
In conclusion, "Un nuevo amor" proves that Lucero is the most important international mexican female singer of ranchero music in the latin world.

See my reviews for "Mi Destino", which I do NOT like. Fortunately, "Un Nuevo Amor" was my first exposure to Lucero. I quickly found "Cerca De Ti", "Un Lucero En Mexico (Rancheras)", and "Serie 32" ... before I found "Mi Destino". Lucero appears to be a lovely, sweet, desirable, performer and artist. Her persona and voice, style and production, on her earlier CDs matched that loveliness (at least, for me). It was not the overt sexiness of the beautiful sex-pot Thalia, or Shakira, or Paulina, or the several other Latin look-a-likes, sound-a-likes. I am glad I did NOT buy "Mi Destino" first. "Un Nuevo Amor" will be one of my favorite albums of all time, along with Gloria Estefan's "Mi Terra". Throw in an early Bonnie Raitt CD, and I'm in heaven! (OK, I know it's a strange mix, but, they're unique. That's what I like.)

This album marks the return to popular music for Daniela Romo , which results in some great tracks.This is her first album of new music since 1992's dissapointment "De Mil Colores". She has also reunited with producer Divaona , from which she had popular songs in the 80's.What is most surprising , in fact , is that she cowrote 10 of the 11 tracks on this album. There is, surprisingly , much insight and thought from the 40 plus Mexican singer , in such tracks as "Matame" , where she expresses her desire to be conquered by her lover. On "Mujeres" , she describes the role of women to a man ,where she converses with him and says "Mira tu cara de niño , preguntando , que es la mujer? (look at your face full of innocense , asking , what is a woman?)". Overall , this album works to her musical abilities , fully developing her vocal and lyrical abilities. It is definitely worth buying
