Not my favorite of Manny.......2002-07-05

This third album is where Manny was clearly trying to do something different and more varied. Only the first half consists of merengues, and they somehow lack the sparkle of his other albums. Manny's singing is just not as good, and neither the arrangments nor the background vocals as creatively done. The only song I like a lot is the arresting Se que me eganaste un dia.

In the second half of the CD, merengue is tossed aside and we go into a series of really strange pop songs. Kind of interesting, but this is really not the kind of material that showcases Manny Manuel's talents. Some of the songs sound a little like that got lost on the way to a Julio Iglesias album.

Still, this album has been well received, and certainly represents a substantial effort, but compared to Lleno de Vida, Autentico and even Rey De Corazones, this is really less exciting.

This CD proves Manny Manuel as one of the best tropical artists. It demonstrates an improvement on the artist's domain of the lyrics and rhythms. It is a combination of rhythms where the merengue is the strongest one, followed by others not so tropical, like the ballads.

"Este es mi tiempo" is a good choice for those who like to explore and hear the artist's versatility and assures a success to Manny Manuel on his route to international markets.
