One review mentioned paying $70 for this CD. If you are wondering why - this CD must have gone out of print for awhile.
A few years ago this CD could not be found under $30 used.

And it is an essential companion to OK Computer.

A nice companion to "OK Computer.".......2007-04-29

I've always heard from many Radiohead fans about the quality of the B-sides being pretty good, and while I wanted to get a hold of the stuff, most of it was imports so I thought it was a sky high investment, if I were to do it. And I didn't get into Radiohead until a few years after even this compilation. And it's a great compilation, even if a little bit incomplete for some.

I really love OK Computer and was looking forward to the B-side. People who own that album already know the first track, "Airbag," which is Radiohead greatness, and with some excellent Thom Yorke lyrics, guitar effects and playing, and such. It's actually the song that inspired me to buy said album.

As for the B-sides, they aren't as good as that album, but I think it's far above average, even for B-sides. I really liked the instrumental "Meeting in the Aisle," as well as the others. The songs here are actually pretty catchy, particularly in "Palo Alto," the last track on the record. It's back in print after a long time. So no longer is it "limited edition" as Amazon.com lists. And at some places it is sold at a very good price; you can get it for roughly eight bucks at your nearest Best Buy.

Overall, a casual Radiohead fan may not want this, but if you're into the group already, I recommend it. And in comparison to the actual studio albums, I'd actually put it ahead of the last two LP's, as well as of course Pablo Honey (has moments but is scattershot).

Dear Amazon: "OK Computer" is the title of that album, and taking it out of my title makes no sense at all. Also, I apologize for price comparisons, although I'd either be a lot poorer or would own way less music if I never did such a thing.

Save your money.......2007-04-25

Let me just start by saying OK Computer is one of my favorite albums ever. That level of creativity has rarely been approached by anybody. That being said, there is a reason these songs were not included in that album: it's because they're just not really that great. The material on "Airbag" just does not stand up to the OK Computer material.

Airbag, which incidentally happens to be the only track on OK Computer, happens to be the best song on this EP. Most of the others seem disorganized and disoriented... "Pearly" is a clear step down from the track that precedes it. "Polyethylene" is decent, but would still only make an average (at best) song on OK Computer.

If you already have all of Radiohead's material, go ahead and get this. But get the rest of it (with the obvious exception of Pablo Honey) first.

...But where are tracks like "Lull" and "How I Made Millions"? While they are definitely not Radiohead's greatest, I think they should have been included in this collection as well.

Airbag/How Am I Driving? is very similar to OK Computer, but still dabbles in some Bends-era guitars. The reason why this EP is an essential purchase is this: it contains the song "Pearly" which is definitely one of Radiohead's best tracks, up there with Idioteque and Paranoid Android.

First off, let me say this, and this is gonna make some people furious I am sure, but on some of these tracks the way Berg sounds, he reminds me of Lil Wayne. Seeing how I think that Lil Wayne is whack anyways, maybe it's not such a bad comparison. Some of the stuff he says is just like Lil Wayne in that he will say one line, and then follow up with something totally unrelated that doesn't even make sense, it just happens to rhyme.

This EP starts off strong (if that is the appropriate word, it depends on how you feel about the single Sexy Lady) and then goes straight down the crapper and never looks back.

Just like almost all other new rappers, Yung Berg says absolutely nothing witty or original, on the song Almost Famous his verses would be comparable to Fabolous if he threw in some interesting metaphors/similies/analogies....but he does none of the above. Why Twista agreed to be on Where Do We Go is beyond me, why would you associate yourself with this clown? Doesn't really matter because even his verse is really generic and bland.

I thought maybe the remix would be good, but Jim Jones is whack as usual, Berg's new verse is just like the rest of his verses on the CD, nothing special, and the previous two makes Rich Boy's turn on the mic look like a highlight.

Even if you are someone that only pays attention to beats you can't give this EP much credit, the best are the Sexy Lady and Where Do We Go.....the last track, Painkiller, apparently isn't even a Yung Berg song but some R&B song by Nikki Flores. He drops a very forgettable verse, i don't even think its a full 16 bars. The beat on the song is average, but for me, as I get ready to throw on the new Common CD, an average beat isn't gonna save a darn thing, you gotta say somethin worth our time.

The best advice anyone can give Yung Berg is to pull this off the shelves and put Sexy Lady on his full CD in the fall - go back to the drawing board and think of something creative to say sohis debut doesn't bomb.

But the production blends in with typical early to mid 90s music as far as beats go. As far as lyrics, i believe Em is on Nas' Illmatic level back then. The only reason i gave this a low rating is becaause D-12 pops up and ruins every track the talk on. D-12 should not be allowed to rap except for Bizarre.

The Essence of Hip-Hop - - D-E-S-E-R-V-E-S E-V-E-R-Y S-T-A-R.......2007-03-28

I'd like to start off my review by saying that i consider Marshall Mathers part of an elite though very select few of pure, conscious l-y-r-c-i-s-t-s. These include Eyedea, Gift of Gab (1/2 of Blackalicious), Jeru tha Damaja, AZ, Big L, Big Pun, Common Sense (in his early days), KRS-One, CL Smooth, Black Thought, all iS mineS, one.be.lo. and also the whole Hieroglyphics empire.

That said, the overall vibe of this album has an undeniable old school quality to it, even though it was released in '96. The beats are infectious and sound fresh even to this day, and eminem actually had something to say. He was hungry, relied on clever wordplay and worthwhile stories that not only reflected his life at the time, but also portrayed every day happenings that he had probably grown accustomed to seeing.

"Maxine" is about how a prostitute will lie & leave you with disease if you're dumb enough to believe she's clean. Some nice production here.

"Never 2 Far" portrays eminems ambitions to make money in the rap industry. The difference between him and other rappers is that he comes correct with clever wordplay and flow, and each verse eases nicely into the chorus, to the point where you don't even realize his technique of merging the two.

"Searchin" continues this idea except this time he's pouring out emotions as well as his lust for a lost love. Again undeniably sick wordplay and flow, with a guest appearance from a friend.

"Infinite", perhaps the strongest track on the album is also one of the sickest instances of pure lyrical destruction that i've ever heard. Not a lyric is wasted throughout, and every line effortlessly connects to the next. ("My rhymin' skills got you climbin' hills, i travel through your mind into your spine like siren drills."). This is hip-hop that actually requires thinking to understand everything he's saying, and when you do it's a real eye opener.

"Open Mic" flosses a sick beat and funny intro, and eminem rips the beat to sh*t. It's a toss up between this and "Infinite" for best track on the album. ("You couldn't flip shit playin' in toilets with a spatula.")

"It's Ok" must be heard to believe. His style is so natural you'd think he was somehow cheating. Again the wordplay is unmatched by today's "standards" of what a hip-hop song should entail.

A inevitable gripe with this album that most heads will notice is Eminems questionable approach to riding the beat. At times he certainly seems off if you listen closely, yet he also seems right on because of the way he flows in and out of the chorus, with an uncanny ear for the smallest nuances of the beat.

Bottom line: it's shocking that few people have heard this album. This was undoubtedly a different side of Eminem, when few people knew about him and his rage hadn't come out yet. If you're a hip-hop head you will probably appreciate this album for what it is, Beats, Rhymes and Storytelling ability.

A Lot of Eminem fans don't like this album because it's none of that Slim Shady stuff.If you sit down and study this album properly and study what it's about you will like this album. On this CD Eminem talks about his struggles and how he feels he can make it, and tracks like it's okay and Never 2 Far explain that. However Eminem displays some dope skillz on this album with perfect lyrical flow over laidback beats and some hot punchlines to get you hyped up and those skillz are displayed on tracks like Infinite, 313, Tonite and open mic. My favourite tracks on this album are Never 2 Far, which talks about how confident you have to be in order to make it, no matter if you're broke or not it is still possible to be very successful in the future, Searchin is another good tune on the album about how he finally found someone to be in a good relationship with, Backstabber a funny but very lyrical song about a backstabber that eveyone should stay away from, Jealeasy woes is another one talking about how he feels his girlfriend left him because shes jealous of him especially that he spends all his money buying her fancy gifts and she keeps giving them to him acting like she don't like the gifts. So there you go if your an Eminem fan or a fan of real Hip Hop then download this album since it isn't in stores.

His best album. I seriously mean that........2007-02-24

When we turn up a track to hear Eminem "Slim Shady", we hear someone who seem bitter and sometimes outraged. Some of Eminem's songs from the Slim Shady album and on are good but in my opinion he seems to be whining a lot. Wait, wait don't get me wrong he can flow well and he has some good lyrics there is no doubt about that but "Infinite" offers something different. I listen to his tracks on this album and I feel he is being completely real. All this was before his fame and fortune... The introductory track, Infinite, will blow your socks off! His flows on this track are better than anything else I have heard by him and shows off his raw talent. On the song "It's OK" he talks about his struggles with having child, financial problems, issues with family etc. Normally he would complain about all of it and talk about putting his "baby mama in a hatchback and latched it" (Quote from the "Last Hit" from High & Mighty). Instead, he says everything is going to be OK and all right. He knows he will make it through... It is too bad the public passed up this album. In '96 they wanted something different from Eminem and that is when he developed the nemesis "Slim Shady". His character on this album is completely different and in my opinion "real". Characters on 8 Mile actually are real... He has Dj Butterfingers cutting the beats on this album along with the rest of 313. I talk to some Eminem fans and they say they know all of his songs and albums. I ask them about this one and they have no clue what I am talking about. I am telling you, if you are a true fan pick up this album and get it fast because you can't find this in stores... This is going to be a one-of-a-kind album by Eminem and he will never make anything like this again.

This is essentially a 19 minute remix of "Scandalous" from the Batman soundtrack, although it's broken up into three "movements". Lots of extra stuff in this version, including saxophone playing by Eric Leeds and "pillow talk" by Kim Basinger. The "b-side" is "Sex", which is a great song that wasn't included on Prince's "The B-Sides" CD. The final song is "When 2 R in Love", a great ballad from the "Lovesexy" album. Prince fans should get off on this CD.

A must have for any prince collector or music lover........2002-10-08

This is a must have for anyone who wants to clean up their apartment/home, put on a little incense, invite that special someone over, and create some ambiance. This is from the Batman era of 1988/89. I know a lot of people have heard prince's "Insatiable" but not "Scandalous". You are getting a raw deal. This song was on the Batman Soundtrack (the first one) and is by far one of the most sensual yet tasteful songs you will EVER hear. It is rare finds like this and impossible finds like "A Place In Heaven" that make prince a legend if NOTHING ELSE. This CD is an extended version that plays all the way through, but has breaks in it (Thank God! His Lovesexy album is runs as one song. I had to recut the song in Cool Edit Pro to make it into different songs. Otherwise, you couldn't skip from song to song!)This one has some great saxaphone playing, a great cameo from Batman star Kim Bassinger, and will definitely "set that mood" for doing "you know what".

Um, er, bible study and sipping tea. What did you think I meant?

THe melody here is classic.together with Kim Bassinger Scandalous gets a whole different vibe&Feeling.I really dug the Guitar&Sly Stone Inspired Talk Box Part.The Horn of Eric Leeds was Hitting.When 2 are in Love&Sex don't really compare after the long Version of Scandalous.it's a Trip out take.

This album is to House what "Babe I'm Gonna Leave You" by Led Zeppelin is to Rock. No matter how many times you hear it it still sounds just as good as the first time you heard it. First saw the video (actually heard the music first and came running) on TV when I was living in Stuttgart. Went out that afternoon and bought the single and played that CD until it melted (or just about). Between the 80's retro-ish video and the filter house/disco Daft Punk style music it just can't get any better-at least I haven't heard anything as good as or better yet-and that was almost 6 years ago (oh wow I'm getting old). I heard rumors that the cooperative that is/was Stardust was going to get together and make a full length album. Maybe it's better that they didn't and left this gem with us at the top of their game. Anyhow-its still enjoyable and will probably be for many, many years.

This isnt my favourite song but it is one of my favs. I am obsessed with Daft Punk and the first time I heard this song I new it was one of Thomas Bangalter masterful tunes. I highly recomend getting your hands on this CD it is great, you would be able to really get into this CD if u can highly respect and appreciate Toms work like I do also Mr Braxe and Mr Diamond do an excellent job in this CD, So just buy it.

Imaging yourself, right there on Ibiza, dancing on the sand and the warm water touching your feets...This is what this song is about and no matter how old this trully masterpiece is, everytime that you'll listen to this "you're going to dance", believe me. It just get better and better. The best French House disco filtered song. Mr Bangalter + Mr Diamond + Mr Braxe , what else could you expect from this electronic genious?.

When exactly Radiohead transformed themselves from an average alterna-rock band into an avant-garde juggernaut is difficult to pinpoint, but in terms of recording, they took the great leap forward somewhere around the time of their second album, The Bends. While their debut, Pablo Honey, had a few sharp hooks, there was nothing to predict the avalanche of ideas that made The Bends one of the important albums of the 1990s. This EP (which is actually longer than some bands' full albums) doesn't clarify things a bit. The acoustic version of "Creep" that ends My Iron Lung is a sensitive read, but it doesn't explain the structural leap of the title track, which sounds as if the band had relearned how to play their instruments. Most of the remaining tunes are short, quirky numbers that point up Thom Yorke's penchant for melancholy melodies. Those who treasure the art rock of OK Computer or Kid A may find these plaintive pleas for love and understanding almost too simple. --Rob O'Connor

Five star EP (at least for the already obsessive fan, maybe even for others).......2007-06-27

Not sure if this EP has sufficient general appeal, and if you've never heard Radiohead before, I really don't know if this is the best introduction, but I'll stick with the (hopefully safe) assumption that if you're looking at this page, let alone reading this particular review, that you've heard some of Radiohead's music before and are looking into some of their lesser-known recordings. Even if you aren't a well established Radiohead fan, you still might find a lot to love here, as it's one of their more accessible, while still great (even if not quite as iconic or as groundbreaking) works.

My Iron Lung is no lackluster EP, and is perfect for fans of their Bends-era material (the title track was featured in The Bends a few months later, but if you don't want to search for their singles, the other tracks are available here). You may even want to let your non-fan friends hear it, as even though I just said it may not have general appeal (on second thought, I may have been wrong there), it's probably more accessible than the typical Radiohead album, even if not as groundbreaking (not to say that there's no originality here, there's lots of it).

However, even if the Bends isn't your favorite Radiohead album, this is still worth a buy if your budget allows it (the price often fluctuates quite a bit, some of the other reviews may be outdated in complaining about the steep price). Personally, my favorite Radiohead album is Kid A, then OK Computer, then Amnesiac, and then maybe The Bends, and I never even listen to Pablo Honey, a few songs aside. Yet somehow this pre-Bends recording really works, and it's hard to imagine that it was released not too long after Pablo Honey. In my humble opinion it's nearly on par with the quality of their albums. Also, the fact that it's an EP is almost misleading, you get eight songs, and twenty-eight minutes of music.

So let's go straight to the songs, shall we?

1. "My Iron Lung" - Almost exactly the same as the version found on The Bends, though I've heard it's mixed at a slightly different level. If you already own The Bends and have a heard it many a time, this is nothing new, though it still works as a great opener when listening to the EP the whole way through.

2. "Trickster" - Probably my favorite on the EP, this is a really strong second song, and for those who are familiar with their newer material, which should be released officially sometime this year (2007), it is quite similar to their much newer song "Open Pick," the lyrics are also quite interesting. And aside from the song I just mentioned, it's quite unique within their whole catalog.

3. "Lewis Mistreated" - Not a bad song at all, even though perhaps my least favorite on here. It's a bit more like their Pablo Honey material than it is like The Bends stuff.

4. "Punchdrunk Lovesick Singalong" - A softer song, though no less (and perhaps more) sinister than those preceding it. Thom Yorke's vocal performance recalls sadder emotions (well the title implies it's about lovesicknesses) and it foreshadows darker things to come for the band.

5. "Permenant Daylight" - A song that sounds darker than it's title may suggest, the vocals are intentionally somewhat obscured, and the signature Radiohead guitar attack is clearly present here.

6. "Lozenge of Love" - Not your typical Radiohead fare but a beautiful song nonetheless, that's quite simple, quite short, but works.

7. "You Never Wash Up After Yourself" - This is another shorter song. The intro reminds me of "Wolf at the Door" (an by extension The Beatles' "Because") . Like the one before it, it's a simpler song, compared to most of Radiohead's output but works well to close off the EP.

8. "Creep (Acoustic)" - Okay so the EP doesn't end at the seventh song, even if I just implied that, but I always see this track more as a bonus track than a closing track, even if it can work as an emotional closer, and ties into the lyrical subtext of the opening track, which is really about how the song "Creep," really kept them going as a band, and sustained them, even though most of the band dislikes the song. Creep diehards will love this song, but many, including myself, think Thom delivered an almost intentionally poor performance out of disgust.

There it is then, don't hesitate to get it if you're a fan and have the necessary funds. However, if you're thinking of purchasing your first Radiohead EP, I'd have to say that unless you really prefer The Bends to both OK Computer and Kid A, you're probably best off purchasing Airbag/How Am I Driving? if your budget allows.

This is where Radiohead first proves they're a fantastic band........2007-04-22

Although Radiohead's monster single, Creep, was tearing up the charts in the early 1990s, the album from which it was taken, PABLO HONEY, was an average album from what appeared to be an average band. Like so many other bands with a couple of hits under their belt, Radiohead could have released a couple more mediocre records in the span of a few years and generally fade from public consciousness. Hootie and the Blowfish and Seven Mary 3 are good examples of this phenomena. I actually wrote Radiohead off and never bothered to listen to any of the followups until about 2001, when I realised there was so much more to Radiohead than just "Creep" (one of my least favorite songs by them, incidentally).

Radiohead, however, had a different career destiny in mind, and pulled it off wonderfully. Rather than continue in the PABLO HONEY vein, Radiohead managed to record a series of phenomenal records not only noted for their musical instinct, but just wonderful, amazing music. Judging from PABLO HONEY, you would have no possible inkling they would go on to record an album of such high calibre like THE BENDS, let alone OK COMPUTER. OK COMPUTER is in a whole other universe in terms of quality, critical acclaim, and rabid fan adulation compared to PABLO HONEY. Radiohead wonderfully reinvented themselves, and have become one of the most consistently interesting, thought provoking bands around these days.

So how do they do it? My personal belief is it all starts right here with this EP released in 1994, MY IRON LUNG. This EP, which is comprised of one track later released on THE BENDS in 1995, six songs recorded during the Bends sessions available nowhere else, and an acoustic rendition of their 1993 hit "Creep", is a remarkable achievement for a band who, at that time, only had the wholly unremarkable PABLO HONEY debut under their belts. In every way, shape, and form, this EP not only outshines the debut but establishes the foundation of the rest of their career. Each song is a vast increase in production skills, overall musicality, and just plain listenability over the debut. This is the first indicator that Radiohead is more than an average, early 1990s band, with only a couple of hits in them.

What really benefits MY IRON LUNG is that it plays like a real album, not just a hodgepodge of outtakes and b-sides. In fact, in sequence and length (8 songs, 28:13 minutes), this could have been released as a main album, or if they so desired, the band could have thrown on a few more tracks to make it a more substantial release.

The six songs not included on THE BENDS could just as easily placed that album. They never sound like mere B-sides. In fact, you could swap any of these songs out, making them interchangeable with the songs that made the cut, and THE BENDS would still be considered one of the best records from the mid 1990s. These songs are fully formed, and many other bands of Radiohead's era would love to have such quality songwriting to their name, and amazingly Radiohead relegates this first class material to EP status. The only real sore spot on the EP is the acoustic version of "Creep", which has a harsh off-key section. Other than that, this is Radiohead's first real evidence that they are not just an average band who managed to score a big hit, but a band of skill, durability, and worthy to be considered among the other legendary bands of rock and roll.

After recording this EP, Radiohead would go on to prove themselves time and time again. While I do believe MY IRON LUNG laid the foundation for the rest of their career, sonically it is most akin to THE BENDS. This EP proved in so many ways that their debut did not that they were versatile, they could write great songs, and they had what it takes to be a first-rate rock and roll band. Naturally, in their musical evolution Radiohead's journey lead them to such radical departures as KID A, AMNESIAC, and HAIL TO THE THIEF, all of which sound little like the music found here. But MY IRON LUNG was the first step in that direction toward the upper echelon of rock.

BOTTOM LINE:: essential listening for any rock fan. While it may be a fairly expensive item to obtain for your music collection, it is worth it, simply because it plays very much like a lost Radiohead album than just an EP filled with odds and ends. While PABLO HONEY may have been their first record with a couple of good songs, MY IRON LUNG was the first indication that Radiohead was here to stay, and a band with far more interesting music than most of the other drek being recorded these days.

(There are different editions of MY IRON LUNG. Some releases split the songs into two singles. Make sure you get the version that has all 8 tracks. Otherwise, you are just wasting your money).

Some people like the Acoustic version of creep; I have to say I hate it. I heard a rumour, a sort of urban myth, that the guitar crunches on the album version were an attempt to "sabotage the song" (an attempt which backfired) and I have to say the acoustic is probably what Thom would have wanted. Personally I dislike the vocals and it lacks the complexity of other songs.

The Trickster sounds great. While it is extremely catchy and you'll probably love it as soon as you hear it, I have found that it doesn't have the same longevity as other RH songs.
Permanent Daylight is also a beautiful, restrained sort of song and along with the youthful and pop sounding "Lewis (mistreated)" this is a good collection of songs.

HOWEVER I myself did not order this over the internet. With the cost of postage+handling, this just isn't worth it. What I reccomend you do is go to iTunes or Bigpond Music and order this.
A lot of people prefer to have an actual CD and I wouldn't even consider downloading (legally)a RH album over the net, but unless you're a serious collector its not entirely worth the cost.
Consider using the previously mentioned sites.

I like it because it reminds me of that twilight zone episode and it rocks too! It reminds us not to mess (wanted to use a stronger word) up too bad. It must be hard with your head on backwards...More so everything else rocks on this EP from Louis mistreated to well the rest of the songs. Definenent must have in your radiohead collection

Better then some of there LP's.......2005-10-15

This EP is better then pablo honey and kid a. I would not pay the 22.00 retail price though for it but getting it used for like 7.00 is well worth it. Other reviewers have mention that the version of creep on this cd is not so good. I think at the time Thom recorded it, he was so fed up with people asking him to play the song all the time, so he decided to not to care how bad he sounds on it. The only complaint is that the last 2 songs before creep are so short, could'nt the band atleast add a couple of minutes on to them. This cd made me more interested in there b-sides which i think are less fussy then there lp songs. Also if you are still waiting for the next cd to come out this one would kill time nicely.

I can still hear some hiss and tape imperfections on good vibrations. It did'nt matter to me Vibrations still sounded loud and clear and for the best part cleaned up from the original master tapes. I like the extra tracks alot. This cd is simple and sweet and sounds great despite old original tape defects. I dont believe there ever was a stereo recording for vibrations. I enjoyed this cleaned up mono version of good vibrations and besides if their was a genuine stereo original recording of vibrations from circa early to mid-1966 I think it would have surfaced by now. Besides I think mono recordings sounded better to Brian Wilson because I beleive he is deaf in one ear. Enjoy this cd ep it may one day go double or triple what it costs now. Produced for a then staggering $100,000 Good Vibrations was the exclamation point to Pet Sounds in the fall of 1966 as the Beach Boys really stuck it to the Beatles. Due to these Beach Boy releases in 1966 the Beatles would have their greatest year creativity wise in 1967 as they would answer there well armed rivals with Pennylane, Strawberry fields, and of course Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band. The Beatles created masterpieces from Revolver to their last magnum opus Abbey Road. My honest opinion (and this might offend Beatle and rock fans in general) 'Pet Sounds" and "Good Virations" were the blueprints to all Beatle recordings from 1966 through 1969. I respect the Beatles for their writing and musical creativity. I really feel that the Beatles were so amazed by "Pet Sounds" and "Good Vibrations" that with their releases from 1966- 1969 the Beatles really tried to capture the sound of "Pet Sounds" and "Good Vibrations". There is no argument from me, the Beatles did create masterpices from 66-69 but honestly, never matched the sound of "Pet Sounds" and Good Vibrations". If it were'nt for Brians over indulgences post Pet Sounds as the song goes God Only Knows what the Beach Boys could have accomplished for the rest of the psychedelic 1960s. Man I'll tell you there has been nothing before or after that sounds like "Good Vibrations". Brian Wilson is the man, the one man who made the Beatles and Sir George Martin realize that they to could be surpassed in talent, let alone by one man and that one man is BRIAN WILSON................

If you are a diehard Beach Boys fan, its very important to have this if only for the memento it is. If you enjoy listening to outakes and want to get a feel of the whole production I highly recommend this wonderful little package. Its the Boys and all the studio musicians giving their all to perhaps the most complex piece of music Brian Wilson ever wrote.
