Excellent for use at home. Outstanding for classroom climate in younger grades.

5 out of 5 stars Wonderful, Wonderful!.......2007-01-13

I've been giving this(first a cassette, now a cd) as a gift to children since it first appeared in the mid-80's. It's as fresh and wonderful today as it was then. I know many children who grew up knowing the words to all the songs and internalizing the wonderful messages they impart.Check out other cd's by Red.

5 out of 5 stars Grandchildren Love It.......2007-01-05

This CD provides lively songs that offer kids a positive approach to life and problem solving and are also great fun to dance to. My grandchildren really enjoy it!

    5 out of 5 stars F.A.N.T.A.S.T.I.C.!.......2006-02-02

    I've got the original music (including v2 and v3), the books (the best is Heitland's The Man from U.N.C.L.E. Book; still in print);
the 22 VHS tapes issued in the early 1990's (a haphazard collection issued in no particular order of episodes that boasted famous guest stars). Can I please get the whole series on DVD? I have not seen Mother Fear toying with Illya (The Children's Day Affair) in over 40 years.

5 out of 5 stars At LAST the complete series ORIGINAL soundtrack, the wait is over!.......2005-07-12

Many of us have always thought The Man From UNCLE had the best music for a TV series ever, and this three double CD release confirms this. Wow! I'd be just happy with one CD, but having SIX (three double CDs packages) is absolutely out of this world, I mean, a lifetime wait come true.

Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.

And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.

Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.

This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.

Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.

So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Isabelle is the best.......2004-04-27

I'm a french girl leaving in L.A and I didn't know Isabelle Antena before this compilation. Not only her track (the opening one) is the best of the CD , but I discovered her best of album (l'alphabet du plaisir) and she's one of the greatest bossa singer I've ever heard.A real diva.

    5 out of 5 stars Good CD........2002-06-11

While I profess to know very little about music, I think I have good taste. I love this cd, every track from start to finish seems to find the right blend between groovy/relaxing. Would highly recommend.

    5 out of 5 stars Awesome.......2002-03-25

Another one of those trip-hop/jazz compilations that just won't leave the CD player. An eclectic blend of smooth cuts from Thievery Corp, Nightmares On Wax, and others, perfect for coming down from a fast night of drinking too much and sobering out. The song by Cool Blue (track 9, not 10) is just so chill, it sends shivers and Dub Tractor's "104 Dub" has that ambient groove to it...way cool.

    5 out of 5 stars Excellent!.......2002-03-12

This CD has been in almost constant rotation in the CD player at our house since purchase. It flows really well, each song is very different, but very interesting, and they all seem to complement each other. Can't wait to try the other ESL offerings.

4 out of 5 stars Sizzles, fizzles, then sizzles........2002-02-06

I was interested in this track as I knew of Batu and some of the other artists featured. But to be honest, the only tracks I listen to on this album are the first two. The Isabelle Antena track is incredibly smooth while the Batu track seems to teleport you back in time to Brazil in the 70's early 80's. But from then on up for a while the album goes into a 70's sort of lounge feel, which isn't really bad considering that's the way the album's supposed to go. Just not my cup of tea.

So if you're looking for something like the first two tracks, where are heavy Bossa Nova/tropical feel, you get it in the first two tracks only. Otherwise I'd recommend Jet Society instead - and if you have that, Boss-a-Troniq (1+2), Brazilectro (1+2) or Hedkandi's Serve Chilled Volume 3. The rest of this album is solid with some ups - notably Shantel and Thievery Corporation's own track in it.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Perfect introduction to the carillon..........1998-10-30

James Lawson plays the carillon at the Crystal Cathedral, a unique instrument because of its major-third overtones as opposed to the typical minor-third overtones of a carillon. The Cathedral Carillon has a particularly rich sound, which Lawson harnesses with a flair in his arrangements of hymns tunes and recognizable classics. The carillon has long been known as the most democratic of instruments, and Lawson plays it as it should be heard--with music people know and love.

This recording is very relaxing as well, and is of paticular use as focus music for prayer or small worship settings, or for listening at the end of a long day.

Before mixtapes took over the streets and the likes of G Unit and the Diplomats became the sound of New York, P&P records and its various imprints such as Queen Constance were the soundtrack for the citys restless youth. Big Break Rapper Party is a cross section of original school rappers from Hip Hops earliest days... days when Hip Hop was a movement that had barely made it downtown much less around the world. Back in The Big Break Rapper Party day there was plenty of braggin and boastin over rhythms just too funky and aggressive to be played in the discothques of the era. These tracks document those early days of Hip Hop. Days when the likes of Peter Brown, Bobby Robinson and Paul Winley helped create the blueprint for what would become the multi-billion dollar industry known today as The Game.

        Customer Reviews:

        5 out of 5 stars perfect compilation!.......2000-04-11

Truly, one of the best things Blue Note has done in years has been the "blue" series of compilations released with all different moods and themes. Whether its "Blue Bacharach" "Afro Blue" or in this case "Blue Breakbeats", this series has made for some of the best listening around in jazz. Blue Breakbeats vol 4 is my favorite of them all. I can't find one low point on the disc. The whole record flows imaginatively from song to song, building in energy and creativity, finally ending on a song ("this is soul") summing up not just the disc, but the whole series as well. I definitely have to say that the standout tracks are "Woman of the Ghetto" by Marlena Shaw, whose lyrics are so profound and are delivered with infinite emotion; "Bring Down The Birds" is a track by Herbie Hancock that funks like no other. (Did you really think Deee-Lite could come up with that bassline?) My favorite track is one that brings back a lot of memories...Three is the Magic Number. It grooves, is forever inspiring, and has found its rightful place in postmodern's history, being sampled on one of the timeless hip-hop masterpieces of the late 80's/early 90's : De La Soul's "3 feet High and Rising". Overall, this collection is as funky as they get, and we should all bow our heads and pay homage to the funk gods, for it is they who give our life a little groove.

          Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars In this case the BUZZCOCKS do it better........2006-02-27

I love a great cover or tribute album. The essence of one is when the bands can either cover the original song in a way that offers a new take on the song or that covers it in a way that it's almost like an outtake by the original band, a good outtake.

There's the rare case when a cover is actually better than the original as in a CLASH tribute CD where a band does Death or Glory really well with gusto and upon hearing the original one can see its one of the few CLASH songs that's a bit flat.

There's no such song here. I'd say the BUZZCOCKS do every song better then these guys do here. Some are pretty good covers, DOSE especially I think captured the general BUZZCOCKS sound well. As with the CLASH when a band does like a punk or, actually, a sorta hardcore punk version of one of their songs its not all that good because the BUZZCOCKS (and the CLASH for that matter) aren't hardcore bands and the essence of their artistry sorta gets plowed away when done that way.

What this CD shows me is that I really like the BUZZCOCKS' vocalist's sound. No one really measures up to his distinct sound. The best covers here sound more faithful to the original although none of them are simply duplications of the originals.

I wouldn't rush out and buy this. I may never listen to this again actually. I think I'd explore more BUZZCOCKS albums rather than listen to particularly to this or make like a best of version of this using say 5 of the best songs as a sort of ep. chrisbct@hotmail.com
