The first six or seven by Roena and the Apollo Sound are all classics. now Fania will be reissuing them. Hopefully all of them. Especially volumes 4 and 6. Volume 5 is also at the top of the list, with several especially strong tunes.

"Roberto Roena and Apollo Sound developed into one of salsa's more progressive and sophisticated outfits with their own highly distinctive style. For 1973's Roberto Roena Y Su Apollo Sound 5, regarded as one of the band's very best, they were joined by singer Sammy González, trombonist Julio "Gunda" Merced and innovative pianist / arranger Jorge Millet. One of the high points is the explosive descarga "Ponte Duro", in which for nearly nine and half minutes, solo upon solo build to a climax of blasting horns. Highly recommended."

A very well-deserved tribute to a salsa legend........2003-07-31

Roberto Roena was one of the Fania stable's most prolific bandleaders during the 1970s and this anniversary celebration concert is a tribute to him and his band's longevity. He reunites here with his two most famous singers (Piro Montilla and Sammy Gonzalez). This double CD is one you'll love- a "Salsa Dura" essential.

The best live salsa production!.......2003-02-14

This is a supreme music composition put together by this individual. If you love salsa you have to own this. Roena has been around since the 60's, started off with the Fania family and has progressed with his own group. Not to much is heard of Roberto but when I heard this I was hooked. The emphasis on sound such as how they play long periods of percussion (trompeta,piano, y timbales)and then progress to sing is awesome. The words to the songs are also deep, you have to take it in. It makes me proud to have him as one of the greatest artist from Puerto Rico. I have two favorites Marejada Feliz and Lamento de Concepcion. Check it out, you will love it.

This production is a most have for any music lover. In this production Roberto Roena take you back to the seventies and eigthies with his wonderful music and the peculiar sound that made him one of the most recongized musician around latin america and the world. I highly recommend this production to the new generation and the old one.

Nada de otro mundo, como muchos otras ocasiones de salseros viejos y muy bueno en sus tiempo tirando musica que no supera lo que hizo hace muchos anos atras.otro artista tirando musica para ganar unos chavitos...No me impresiono mucho.

His majestic comeback album........2005-09-16

While not up to the level of his legendary Fania releases of the 1970s this near-perfect CD has plenty to recommend it. Virtually all of the eight songs here are throwbacks to Roena's golden age and will not disappoint. "Salsa Dura" at its heaviest and funkiest best.

"Mi Musica" is definetely good salsa for listening, and dancing. For years Roberto Roena has been furbishing his style, and this record maybe his best. I played it a lot, and still am. Many of my friends bought it after listening (or dancing) to it.

Classic Sound.......2000-06-19

This is a must have in anyone's collection if you are a true Salsa aficionada. The LIVE sound of Roberto Roena and crew is amazing. Before Buena Vista there were these guys. All these greats know how to master music. El son, you feel the rythms grab you. A few slow ones on here but they are fantatsic if you enjoy the slower jazzy testure of salsa. If you dig percussion, true latin rythms and musicans who make pianos cry and bongos jam THEN buy ESTE CD.

Damn he's bad...........2007-06-29

You'll know why classic salsa rules forever. Just listen. This is definetly way progressive for the period, (as with pretty much all of Fania's artist at the time).

The word's kill. The arrangements blow you away and the musicianship is spontaneously combustible. This Salsa is the real deal. Not like today's mush aimed only at your wallet and short attention spans.

Roberto took you hard earned bucks and provided you with memories to die for. You'll feel the pain, the love the injustice as only Fania and those fantastic artist could express.

'Go on I say, take my money'. I'll gladly pay again just to listen to those sweet melodies...over and over again!
