This CD contains several of the Arsenio Rodriguez Cuban recordings. Old 1940's hits like "Dundunbanza" the album song title, "Pueblo Nuevo Se Paso" and many others which made tresero, songwriter and ensemble leader Arsenio Rodriguez, world famous. Arsenio Rodriguez died in Southern California during the early 1970's but his monumental work and memory remains forever.

"Viva Arsenio" was a compilation that up until now,was one of the hardest to find of several stateside, New York City, recordings by the great late cuban composer and musician Arsenio Rodriguez, a.k.a. "El Ciego Maravilloso" ("The Marvelous Blindman") as he was and is still called. "Viva Arsenio" was probably the last or one of the last recordings Arsenio Rodriguez made here in New York City before relocating to Los Angeles or Southern California, where he died during the early 1970's. This recording like all the ones he made throughout his entire career is like a uniquely rare, high quality vintage wine. The reproduction of the original album artwork and its color photograph of Arsenio are also unique, just like the album contents, which I am sure you will enjoy. Do not miss this long overdue but enlightened re-issue of this rare, but not forgotten recording by Cuba's maestro and foremost tres and guitar player, the late Arsenio Rodriguez.

The best tres player ever.......2006-10-20

This album is by far the best tres playing and rumba tracks I have. Nobody plays tres with better rhythm or more authority than Arsenio Rodriguez. I listen to this along with Cachao Master Sessions Vol. 2 more than any other recordings I have. Now if I could only get a copy of Arsenio's La Pachanga.

Arsenio goes out with a bang.......2004-11-29

One the great cuban master's last recordings, and it is tremendous! My favorite recording of his, and unlike any other. With Cachao on bass and Monguito on vocals, the chemistry on these sessions is enormous. "Fiesta en el solar" and "Lo que dice Justi" are highlights.

Recorded in New York City in 1963, this is a different sounding Arsenio Rodriguez with an ensemble featuring a saxophone, possibly a first time for Arsenio, since all his previous ensembles or "conjuntos" consisted of three or four trumpets and no saxophones. In spite of the criticism of "traditionalists" and other Arsenio fans, this album surprisingly proved to be a best seller for its producers as well as for Arsenio. "Canto Abakua", "Bruca Manigua", "Los Teenagers Bailan Changui", "Quindembo Hot" and others in this repertoire sound "jazzy" in this fusion rhythm and unique compilation. It should be mentioned Arsenio had a long time ago recorded for that same label in Cuba, early in his musical career and hadn't done so again,for that same label, until this album recording session in "The Big Apple" of 1963, late in his career.
"QUINDEMBO AFRO MAGIC"-"La Magia de Arsenio Rodriguez" is one of Arsenio's greatest classics and its remembered that way by fans and connoseurs.
A must have for all Cuban music collectors and fans of Arsenio Rodriguez,a.k.a. "El Ciego Maravilloso".

This is Larry Harlow's greatest classic and best selling album. Harlow recorded this album during the early 70's as a tribute to Cuba's greatest sonero, composer, tresista, maestro Arsenio Rodriguez, after the latter's death in Los Angeles,Ca.in 1972. Pianist/director Larry Harlow was associated with Arsenio during the late 60's. The album's theme song "Arsenio" has made this album a constant best seller for more than 25 years. You will also enjoy the rest of this CD's compilation such as, "Tumba y Bongo", "Saludos a Todos Los Barrios", "No Me LLores","Sueltala" and "Terror". Definitely one of the greatest Fania albums of the 1970's.
