Powerful compositions, powerful performances.......2004-04-09

To my ears, most "modern music" is pretty predictable...an atonal "melody" punctuated by a clatter of cymbals here, a riff on the vibraphone there. But then along comes Donal Fox who is so highly inventive and collaborative I won't even attempt to describe this music in words...fortunately, there are currently sound samples. Suffice to say, this is powerful stuff and well worth a listen, even if you think you don't like modern music...or perhaps, especially if you think you don't!

Fantastic is FABULOUS! .......2007-01-11

I bought this on a lark... I just wanted to get Boogaloo Down Broadway. I was shocked by how welll the entire album sounds. This guy can sing and boogey with the best of 'em! Though he covers a lot of songs, he does a terrific job. Great stuff for a dance party. They did a nice job digitizing this album, too. The sound is good!

Hitch It To The Horse!.......2002-08-03

I really intially bought this CD only knowing 'Boogaloo Down Broadway', but soon realized that my favorite song on the CD was 'Hitch It To The Horse'. Apparently, the transfer of the Fantastic Johnny C's album to CD has been anticipated by many collectors for several years. If you are a collector of 60's soul music, you need this in your collection. Pure dancable energy, great beats, and full of smokin' attitude! Highly recommended!!

With the urgent feeling and the conviction in his voice, Johnny C is a underestimated soul singer. If his material doesn't show you his inner being you would be totally lost with the Fantastic One. I have had this,(his only album he made) for over a year and a half, and i am proud to say that i do own it. If you like soul music Buy this CD. Now if you will excuse me while I BOOGALOO

Ever wonder what DJ Assault's "Off the Chain for the Y2K" would sound like if you slowed it down to normal speed? It would sound like this album, and that's excellent. The album sounds like one long set with shout-outs interspersed throughout it (one of my least favorite things on any album). Unlike many full DJ sets, however, you can tell the difference between one song and another. The whole disk is strong, with down & dirty lyrics backed by a heavy beat. It makes you want to turn it up way too loud and dance. Long story short - if you like to bounce (or know someone who does), take a look at this album.

Live at the Jazz Standard documents two exciting nights of exhilarating, soulful quartet jazz with the Stryker/Slagle Band at Manhattan's Jazz Standard in March 2005. In a program of eight hard-swinging originals and one Gershwin ballad, the band again confirms its status as one of the most dynamic instrumental jazz ensembles on the scene.
