5 out of 5 stars It was an impulse buy..........2007-05-13

I heard a Carpenters song on the radio one day and decided to look for a CD since I loved their music growing up. It's amazing how much beautiful music they made in such a relatively short period of time. The mastering of this CD is great. The songs sound as fresh as they did back then.

5 out of 5 stars excellent.......2007-04-28

I received these CD's yesterday and put them directly into the CD player. Karen Carpenter may be my alltime favorite vocalist. I was not disappointed. Everything I hoped for and then some.

4 out of 5 stars Bought for Mom, but I enjoyed a few songs myself!.......2007-04-26

You try not singing along with Karen on "Close To You" - I challenge you!

5 out of 5 stars Great Sound.......2007-04-14

Karen Carpenter had a great voice, and here is a big collection of songs from this brother and sister team.To name the best songs from this duo is difficult because there is so many to choose from. But a definite favorite is Top Of The World.I love that tune.
But a song that realy established them was (They Long To Be) Close To You.That song is about their most known song and i love it.There is a great assortment of songs here like We've Only Just Begun.I wont go through all the songs as The Carpenters were consistently good.

5 out of 5 stars "We Were Alone And . . . I'm Singing This Song For You" .......2007-04-13

"Listen to the melody
'Cause my love is in there hiding
I love you in a place
Where there's no space or time
I love you for my life
You are a friend of mine
And when my life is over
Remember when we were together
We were alone and . . .
I was singing this song for you." ~ A Song For You ~ Words & Music by Leon Russell

"Karen and I turned out to be the number one American-born hit makers of the 1970s and to date, with successes in every decade following our debut, our worldwide sales have topped 100 million units. Not too shabby for a pair of siblings from middle-class suburbia, who at first were more interested in listening to music than performing it." ~ Richard Carpenter, Liner Notes - June 2005 ~

Where were you when the Carpenters were so sensational and their songs were hitting the airwaves almost every hour? Where were you when their albums were selling like hotcakes?

Karen's vocal artistry is a pearlescent beauty full of luster, it's almost impossible not to be swept away by it and Richard has the exceptional creativity as a pianist, arranger, composer and conductor. With their extraordinary talents combined, they paved the way to many of their bestselling albums that contain their all-time hit songs. This 2-CD-set, "Carpenters: Gold" is a compilation of their most remarkable recordings - forty of their most-loved songs of all-time. My only concern is why an achingly beautiful song "I Can Dream, Can't I?" is not in this compilation. It would have been perfect if this favorite song of mine is included.

There are so many nice songs from this gold collection but the ones that particularly appeal to me are the following:

Disc One:

"We've Only Just Begun," "This Masquerade," "Superstar," "Rainy Days And Mondays," "Let Me Be The One," "Maybe It's You," "Reason To Believe," It's Going To Take Sometime This Time," There's A Kind Of Hush" "Only Yesterday" and "California Dreamin'."

Disc Two:

"A Song For You," "I Won't Last A Day Without You," "They Long To Be Close To You," "I Just Fall In Love Again," "Ticket To Ride," "Trying To Get The Feeling Again," "Yesterday Once More," "For All We Know" and of course "Merry Christmas Darling."

"Karen's Theme" is also a favorite of mine. It's a charming instrumental piece showcasing not only Mr. Carpenter's piano skills but also his creativity in composing remarkable music. He wrote the opening melody used for the biopic "The Karen Carpenter Story" in 1989, and he completed the melody, arranged and recorded this beautiful piece in late 1996 for his album Richard Carpenter: Pianist, Arranger, Composer, Conductor that was released in March of 1997 by A & M Records.

The above-mentioned songs are so powerful that they can penetrate your ears down to your heart to forever reside in there. They also symbolize an emotion gently and tenderly unfolding like the love growing in your heart.

You will most definitely love these CDs not only for the perfect set of songs but also for its 23-pages CD booklet with self-written Liner Notes by Mr. Carpenter plus the track listing with brief information of each song.

A heartwarming treasure.

Three Dog Night is back with brand new recordings of old favorites with symphonic backgrounds that remain faithful to the original versions. Three Dog Night sounds as great as ever on this 19 track collection, including four bonus tracks, two of which have never before been released. Featuring the 2002 Grammy Award-winning London Symphony Orchestra as well as the Tennessee Symphony, Three Dog Night takes their already stellar career to new heights with a celebration of their past and present in this nostalgic release.

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Are You Kidding Me?.......2007-06-14

Maybe these guys should hang up their hats. This CD is not what I expected at all. This isn't 3 Dog Night. This is a cover band led by Cory Wells and Danny Hutton. This is a big disappointment. Disband this line up and get the old band back. The only thing good about this CD is the London Symphony Orchestra led by Larry Baird. For those familiar with Larry Baird, he wrote and orchestrated the music for the Moody Blues concert at Red Rocks and he did a very good job on short notice. The orchestra here is fantastic. The rest of the songs, although TDN songs, are not the same as the originals. They are re-recorded versions and they're not all that great. The only good songs on the album are the 4 bonus live tracks which sound pretty close to what they've done in the past. Bring back Chuck Negron, Floyd Sneed and crew and get back to making some real music. This is a big disappointment and I wouldn't recommend it. But if you're a TDN fan, you might want to have this in your collection for the sake of having it.

5 out of 5 stars Never Sounded Better.......2007-05-30

A superb album, the boys never sounded better. Get the DVD of them with the Tennessee Orchestra. Cory and Danny have only gotten better and more refined over the years. Cory in particular is such a pro, he is almost inspirational. The guys are in their sixties, for goodness sakes. Bravo, TDN !

4 out of 5 stars Three Dog Night Minus 1 Dog.......2007-03-09

A very well executed collection. The background quality of the music is first rate. However, TDN needs the voice of Chuck Negron to sound perfect. If you like 60's rock with a full symphony as backup, this is it!

1 out of 5 stars Two Dog Night --Maybe.......2007-01-30

I have to admit, like others, I bought this CD just because I was excited to have another collection of Three Dog Night songs. I was so disappointed when I played it and realized it was really only two dogs. Without Chuck, there is no Three Dog Night. They can package it the same way, call it by the same name, but it's not. These vocals are nothing more than lack luster covers of the originals, certainly not the wonderful vocals we have come to know and love. I agree with another reviewer here...why can't they listen to the words of "Easy to be Hard" and patch things up? If the Eagles can do it, the Dogs should be able to as well. Eager fans are waiting for some new harmony! Oh yeah, and this CD, I threw it away!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Nice.......2006-03-22

Pop music perfection. Phenomenal songs bursting with wit, soul, charm, imagination and joy. If Ogden's Nut Gone Flake is the Small Faces' Sgt Pepper, then the first Immediate album is their Revolver. The bonus tracks include some of the greatest singles of the 20th century. I can't recommend this collection highly enough.

This 2-cd version has both the mono and stereo mixes, obviously meant for obsessive completists. The Small Faces released so little material that most of their fans become obsessive completists anyway.

5 out of 5 stars This is the definitive edition.......2004-04-05

Although the contents of the Small Faces' Immediate debut (after 2 albums from Decca) may be found elsewhere, such as the superb compilation "Darlings of Wapping Wharf Launderette," the sequencing and overall concept of this package makes it superior for anyone who doesn't have this material already. The remastering is solid, both on stereo and mono versions, and the progress the group made from the explosive Decca sides, which date from mid-1965 through 1966, to the inventive, meticulously constructed (with help from Glyn Johns)music released in May 1967 is astonishing. The tonal coloring and range of emotional content (from the soulful Marriott-led tracks to the whimsical to the melancholy, searching Ronnie Lane classic "Show Me the Way"). In addition to mono and stereo versions of the "Small Faces" album there is another, bonus collection of 1967 singles and outtakes that make up a slightly shorter but just as powerful
"lost" album that makes a great listen on its own (beginning with tracks 15 - 24 on disc 1 and adding "Don't Burst My Bubble on disc 2). Get this!

5 out of 5 stars For The True Small Faces Collector.......2003-01-04

The year 1967 marked The Small Faces change of record labels (from Decca to Andrew Loog Oldham's newly-formed Immediate), and a switch from the more r&b-based British mod sound to a more psychedelic-flavored pop sound. Of the band's first four Immediate singles in Great Britain, it was the third one, "Itchycoo Park," which _finally brought them notoriety in the United States. To capitalize on its Top 15 chart success, the album "There Are But Four Small Faces" was issued over here in February 1968, a release whose structure resembled some of the early Beatles Capitol albums, a mishmash of LP and single tracks, and bearing only seven of the fourteen tracks on the June 1967 "Small Faces" album released in England. Not only does this double-cd set present the original British album (tracks 1-14 on disk one and 2-15 on disk two), but disk two presents the original mono mixes of all album and single tracks, most of which have become very difficult to come by over time. I'm very happy to finally have the original mono single mix of "Itchycoo Park" on cd: Because of the complexity of the phasing technique then (getting identical tracks to play a tiny fraction of a second apart), it was easier to get a more circular, swirling phase effect with a mono recording--as you'll hear if you play the two mixes back-to-back. Meanwhile, the stereo mixes of "Green Circles," "Get Yourself Together," and "Tin Soldier" all feature the entire backing track bunched into the middle, with the lead vocal on one side and any backing vocals on the other--the result being the vocals fairly buried in the mixes, so the only way you could really hear them well was in stereo headphones. The balance between music and vocals on these three tracks is much better on the mono mixes. You'll also notice a little stronger bass and backbeat on a few of the other mono tracks, especially the frustration-powered "Talk To You." If, however, mono just doesn't float your boat, the stereo mixes are all here for you on disk one, along with the final two cuts on disk two. (Apparently there is no true stereo mix of "Happy Boys Happy," but everything else on disk one is stereo.) There's even a stereo mix of "Don't Burst My Bubble," which I did not know existed. It's great, also, to have the original album (as the artists intended it) together in order on cd--including some great tracks left off the US release, "Something I Want To Tell You," the forementioned "Happy Boys Happy," and "Become Like You," among others. The liner notes are pretty informative, although I would have liked a bit more. All in all, though, this package is a winner, and at a decent price for a double import, I do not believe you'll regret the purchase.

5 out of 5 stars Absolute Masterpiece, Stereo or Mono.......2002-12-30

Now this is how 60s reissues should be done. Much like the excellent reissue of The Zombie's "Odessey & Oracle", this collects all the stereo and mono masters to give a complete picture of one of the best albums I have heard this year, or ever, really. I first bought these tracks on the "Whaping Wharf" collection, not realizing that I was hearing one complete album, not just a "greatest hits" compilation. This easliy stands alongside Pink Floyd's "Pipers at the Gates of Dawn", The Who's "Sell Out", and of course "Sgt. Pepper's" as one of the most eclectic, original, and enjoyable albums of the psychedelic era. It's amazing to find songs like "Have You Ever Seen Me", "Green Circles", and "Eddie's Dreaming" all on one album. The mono mixes included here are dramatically different than the stereo versions I've had up until now, and they're just so punchy and direct that I may leave the stereo disc unplayed for the next few weeks. Included also are all the singles from this era, including the absolutely stunning "Tin Soldier". To these ears, there's nothing dated about this music even 35 years after the fact. What's next? I await a two disc set of "Ogden's Nut Gone Flake", which I admit finishes a distant second to this near-perfect album.

5 out of 5 stars the MIRACLES....NOT IN THE ROCK HALL OF FAME ? ... OUTRAGEOUS !!!.......2006-07-29

Let's see here...the Supremes are in...the Temptations are in...the Four Tops..the Jackson Five ...even Martha and the Vandellas are in , but the MIRACLES...MOTOWN'S FIRST GROUP... THE GROUP WHO'S HITS BUILT THE LABEL... THE GROUP THAT LAUNCHED A RECORDING EMPIRE...THE GROUP WHO'S SONGS HAVE BEEN RECORDED BY ARTIST AFTER ARTIST FROM THE BEATLES ,TO THE STONES ,TO ARETHA FRANKLIN,TO EDDIE MONEY, TO LINDA RONSTADT,TO KIM CARNES,TO JOHNNY RIVERS, THE CAPTAIN AND TENNILLE AND A HOST OF OTHERS... THE SINGLE MOST IMPORTANT GROUP IN THE COMPANY'S HISTORY...THE ONE THAT HAD THE LABEL'S FIRST MILLION-SELLER...THE GROUP WITH OVER 50 CHART HITS...DOESN'T MERIT INDUCTION INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ? While at the SAME TIME , groups with NOWHERE NEAR the number of hits...NOWHERE NEAR AS INFLUENTIAL... AND NOWHERE NEAR AS GOOD continue to be inducted year after year ??!!... WHAT'S WRONG WITH THIS PICTURE ?? WHAT'S WRONG ? I'LL TELL YOU WHAT'S WRONG... THE CAPTION RIGHT NEXT TO THIS PICTURE !! IT SAYS "THE 35 TH ANNIVERSARY COLLECTION"...BY SMOKEY ROBINSON !!! NOT BY THE MIRACLES... NOT EVEN BY SMOKEY ROBINSON AND THE MIRACLES... BUT BY JUST "SMOKEY ROBINSON " AND THEREIN LIES THE PROBLEM !!! Throughout the history of this legendary group, the MIRACLES have NEVER ...but NEVER received their rightful due AS A GROUP...it has always been only about SMOKEY !!! but,as any insider will tell you ...AND AS SMOKEY HIMSELF WILL TELL YOU... the MIRACLES HAVE NEVER BEEN JUST A ONE MAN SHOW !! they were ALL talented songwriters, singers , and producers ...ALL OF THEM have had a share in writing their many hits...(if you don't believe it,just read the writing credits on the labels},not to mention the hits of almost EVERY OTHER EARLY ARTIST ON THE MOTOWN LABEL... MARY WELLS, THE TEMPTATIONS, MARVIN GAYE ... YOU NAME IT !! BUT NOT ALL OF THEM SHARE THE CREDIT ... TO THIS DAY, DISC JOCKEYS ALL OVER THIS COUNTRY , AFTER PLAYING OLD MIRACLES RECORDS ...WILL ANNOUNCE " THAT WAS BY SMOKEY ROBINSON ! " LIKE THE MIRACLES DIDN'T... OR NEVER EXISTED....DO THEY DO THIS TO THE SUPREMES..? NO !! they still call them the SUPREMES ! RARELY DO DEE JAYS SAY "DIANA ROSS AND THE SUPREMES" even though MOTOWN ACTUALLY CHANGED THE GROUP'S NAME MANY YEARS AGO!! AND NEVER, BUT EVER ...DO THEY JUST SAY "DIANA ROSS". the MIRACLES' album "GOING TO A GO GO, WHEN RELEASED IN 1965, OUT CHARTED AND OUT SOLD CONTEMPORARY RELEASES BY THE TEMPTATIONS AND THE SUPREMES... EVENTUALLY REACHNG THE TOP 10 ON THE BILLBOARD POP ALBUM CHART.QUITE AN ACCOMPLISHMENT!! AND YES...IT WAS A GROUP ACCOMPLISHMENT !! BESIDES,LOOK AT THE TOPS, TEMPS AND SUPREMES...in the 1960's.. HOW MANY OF THEIR OWN HITS (OR ANYONE ELSES) did THEY WRITE?..BUT THEY'RE IN THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME AND THE MIRACLES ARE NOT ?? And for those who argue that SMOKEY was the group's only talented songwriter, I say " what about "LOVE MACHINE" ?(WRITTEN BY MIRACLES PETE MOORE AND BILLY GRIFFIN {SMOKEY'S REPLACEMENT} , a MULTI-MILLION SELLING NUMBER 1 POP SMASH...THE BIGGEST HIT THE GROUP EVER HAD..WHERE was SMOKEY when THAT one was written ? (not even in the group any more ).There's no question that SMOKEY is one of the greatest songwriters of ALL TIME!! But to only credit him and completely ignore the rest of the MIRACLES is definitely UNFAIR .THERE HAVE BEEN SEVERAL INSTANCES WHERE SOLO STARS HAVE BEEN INDUCTED INTO THE ROCK HALL OF FAME ... WHILE THE GROUPS THEY WERE ASSOCIATED WITH WERE ALSO INDUCTED ...MICHAEL JACKSON WAS INDUCTED AS A SOLO STAR...BUT HIS GROUP, HIS BROTHERS , THE JACKSON FIVE, WERE INDUCTED TOO !! CURTIS MAYFIELD WAS INDUCTED AS A SOLO...BUT HIS GROUP, THE IMPRESSIONS, (INCLUDING ORIGINAL LEAD SINGER JERRY BUTLER ) WERE ALSO INDUCTED ...EACH INDIVDUAL BEATLE - AS WELL AS THE GROUP ITSELF..ARE IN THE HALL... SO , ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME .... DO THE RIGHT THING . YOU'VE INDUCTED SMOKEY AS A SOLO... NOW PLEASE... INDUCT BOBBY ROGERS, WARREN "PETE" MOORE , THE LATE RONNIE WHITE ...CLAUDETTE ROGERS ROBINSON... MARV TARPLIN....BILLY GRIFFIN... AND WILLIAM "SMOKEY" ROBINSON ... AS A GROUP..INTO THE ROCK AND ROLL HALL OF FAME ...IT'S LONG PAST TIME...AND THEY CERTAINLY DO DESERVE IT !! IT'S TIME THE MIRACLES ...THE GROUP...RECIEVE THE CREDIT THEY DESERVE !!

4 out of 5 stars A very nice box set.......2006-06-14

There's a lot to be happy about on this box set but sadly there are a few negatives. There are some weak songs and it is my understanding that a few songs were left off that might have been better choices. The live songs are very weak. Since I am only a casual fan I'm not familiar with the songs that were left off. But they would have been nice to have instead of the weaker choices.

Fortunately, the positives outweigh the negatives and this is still a good purchase (as long as you are aware of the negatives listed above). The first disc does a great job of showing Smokey and the Miracles as they went from unknowns trying to prove themselves to accomplished performers. It also shows Smokey's growth as a writer of monster hits.

The 4th disc is incredible as it shows Smokey's solo career. You cannot beat any set that includes 'Crusin' and 'Being with you'.

It's still a good purchase.

2 out of 5 stars oldies collector.......2006-01-16

BEWARE!!! More than half of the songs in this boxed set are in mono-and many of these songs are available in stereo. I cannot for the life of me figure out why anyone would think that collectors would be happy with mono versions when stereo versions are available. Also, even though this is a boxed set it does not include all charted hits which is unforgiveable since so many of the titles included did not even chart!! The sound quality is fine but that is not the only factor to consider when rating a recording. I am very glad that I bought this set used because it is certainly not worth the new price.

5 out of 5 stars smokey robinson & the miracles.......2005-09-28

the cds are very good and in excellent condition. the delivery was prompt and i received the item long before expected

3 out of 5 stars Great Material but mostly MONO!.......2005-09-22

I love Smokey Robinson and the Miracles and I love Motown music but when they keep putting out stuff in MONO that was recorded in STEREO and intended to be heard in STEREO, then they must not care very much about the sound quality of their products. Smokey, they dissed you big time on this one.

    2 out of 5 stars Cheese-z.......2004-10-31

This disc is loaded with hit songs. Unfortunatly, most of them were someone else's hit songs. I gave this review two stars because, personally, I think 'Cilla Black has a great singing voice, and that's what kept this from being a total washout. It's too bad, because she deserves better. But be that as it may, keep your money and put it in the collection plate next Sunday. You'll feel better than you will if you pony up the cost of this cd.

5 out of 5 stars CILLA BLACK ROCKS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!.......2001-04-07

I first heard of Cilla Black as a young teenager, during the British pop stars invasion of the nineteen sixties. I was knocked out by her hit song "You're My World". It has always been one of my favorites. I thought that she was fabulous then. I think she is fabulous now.

I was delighted when my daughter gave me this CD as a gift. I was able to hear "You're My World" once again, along with many other terrific songs on this twenty track CD. There is not one bad track on this CD, and Ms. Black is outstanding! She has tremendous versatility and range. Her talent seemingly knows no bounds. Listening to this CD is a wonderful trip down memory lane with a very talented performer.

    4 out of 5 stars Excellent!!!!!!.......1999-10-12

It's been years since my ears have listen to Cilla Black. She hasn't lost THAT VOICE!!!! Ashame she's not a Star in the States, we Americans are loosing out on a "true singing sensation"!!!

Nobody can sing a song like her, or compare to her even after all these years in show business. She's Top of the Pops, to me. I remember her from the 60's when I lived in England and enjoyed her music. Cilla, keep on singing, Luv, there are some of us Yanks, who still love you!!

    Cheerio Cilla!!!!

5 out of 5 stars Celebrating Cilla's Cool Career !.......1999-08-28

This CD marks Brit-Pop Singer Cilla Black's 35 years in the entertainment business (1963- 98). Featuring some of her popular 60s/70s singles (like `You're my World', `Alfie', `Something tells me' etc) & most of all re-issuing to CD eight more stunning tracks from her classics albums like `Cilla', `Day by Day', `Sweet Inspiration' & `Images'. Watch out for CILLA-TASTIC cover versions of Cher's "Gypsies, Tramps & Thieves", Ketty Lester's "Love Letters", Elton John's "Your Song", "Aquarius" from the musical `Hair' & Judy Collin's "Both sides now".

The harmonica may seem to deserve a Most Unassuming Instrument award, but in the highly capable hands of James Cotton, it acquires all the virtuosity of a finely made violin. In addition, the former Muddy Waters harpist deserves recognition for leading one of the longest-running blues bands around, and that's exactly what this album is. From the sweet and tender to the rousing and raucous, 35th Anniversary Jam gathers some of the brightest lights in blues for the celebration. Kenny Neal is here, sounding even throatier than usual as he kicks things off with "Don't Start Me Talking." Bobby Rush does vocal duty on a mellow, lyrical "Fatuation"; and Syl Johnson and Jimmie Vaughan, team up for an old-time rock & roll-styled "Rocket 88." From Koko Taylor to Kim Wilson, this album is a star-studded delight, with Cotton's stellar harmonica woven through it all and one of the tightest backing bands in the business providing support. A special treat is the closing track, "Blues for the Hook," wherein Cotton and Vaughan team up for a moving instrumental tribute. --Genevieve Williams

5 out of 5 stars A Fitting Tribute to "Mr. Superharp" Himself..........2003-01-08

James Cotton is unquestionably one of the greatest blues harmonica players of the 20th century. This album, with all of the guest artists who perform on it, is a fitting tribute to the man, the myth, "Mr. Superharp" himself. As other reviewers have said, who needs to sing when you have guests like Shemekia Copeland (whose voice is so powerful it will knock you right on your butt!), Kim Wilson, Koko Taylor, Kenny Neal, Bobby Rush and others who can do it for you - especially if you blow the harmonica as only Cotton can! Long live this great blues harp godfather!

    5 out of 5 stars Put's Many Young Harp Player's To Shame!.......2002-06-22

Despite throat surgery a couple of years ago, Cotton's harp playing is in fine form for this 35th Anniversary Jam. Besides, who needs to sing when you have a long list of friends that can ably handle those duties for you. On this release, Tab Benoit, Shemekia Copeland, Ronnie Hawkins, Maria Muldaur, Kenny Neal, Lucky Peterson, Bobby Rush, Kim Wilson and Jimmie Vaughan join Cotton on his best release in a number of years. While all of the guests are excellent, it's the strong and passionate blowing of Cotton that jumps out at you on every track. Great stuff.

    5 out of 5 stars Triumph.......2002-06-11

Cotton may have lost his pipes, but he hasn't lost his chops. This album is a beauty, boasting great vocals from folks like Kenny Neal, Koko Taylor, Shemekia Copeland, and Maria Muldaur. But the real treat is Cotton's harp playing, strong as ever. No new material here. Nearly everything is Cotton-composed classics, but it all shines.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Heep through the years...and lots of 'em.......2006-06-21

This monster sized box set should satiate any Uriah Heep fan (lots of previously unreleased and alternate takes); and for those who've enjoyed whatever they've heard elswhere so far and really want to dive deep...this is the box to own.

I first got into UH back in 1971(they were very popular in the Denver, Colorado/ Wyoming area, along with Deep Purple, Kansas, Jethro Tull and Blue Oyster Cult. Heep were one band that remained steadfast to rock 'n roll for many a decade, and though there were line-up changes they remained consistant "quality" rockers.

The Uriah Heep sound changes somewhat from the mid 1970's 'Return to Fantasy' onward (disk 3-5), but the transition is'nt that radical (less Dark for sure) but for the most part they remain URIAH HEEP.

This box set (longbox format) has it all. With almost 8(!) hours of music over 6 disks (#6 is all previously unreleased live); extensive liner notes in a 58page booklet; and perhaps most important, the feeling that a great deal of thought went into 'Chapter & Verse''s conception, it is a great representation of the band's music.

The only thing missing from my box was a venue poster that the outside seal said was included...no big deal really. The only track I found to be missing and was surprised to see omitted from the tracklist was 'Rainbow Demon' from the 'Demons and Wizards' Lp...I suppose there's always something to quibble about in a box set so inclusive, but hey, the pre-Heep tracks are terrific and the sound quality throughout is perfect!

    4 out of 5 stars Good -- but.......2005-11-03

I agree with most of the other reviewers comments. My biggest issue is I did not get the 60 page booklet ! My dealer can't help
me and I like to know if anybody has the same problem. I will keep the box set despite this.

    5 out of 5 stars excellent!.......2005-10-21

First thing, the track listing was changed at the last minute, so what is listed above is slightly off. The bonus live disc is NOT just from '79. One-third is, but the others are from various shows. A handful have been released on recent live albums of theirs. Two songs are live versions of "Equator" songs, one song is from "Acoustically Driven", a couple are from "The Magician's Birthday Party". That actually makes this set better. Also, on the "main" part of this set, the song 'Hold Your Head Up', from "Raging Silence" is not on here. There are no studio "Equator" songs, either, unlike what the above song list suggests. 'Heartache City', from that album, is not here at all. 'Woman Of The Night', from "Fallen Angel" is not here, except as one of the live '79 tracks on the last disc. None of this takes away from the quality of this release, as the rarities make up for it. This is basically an updated version of the out-of-print "Time Of Revelation" box set. This really is a BOX set, as Mick BOX chose the songs! UPDATE: THE TRACK LISTING ABOVE HAS BEEN CHANGED SINCE I REVIEWED THIS, AND IS NOW CORRECT!(1-9-06)
