Rivero has played the bandoneon, or square-headed accordion, since he was a child. Now an internationally known master, he performs 24 traditional Uruguayan dance pieces here in the transparent and natural style he prefers, without electronic modification. 25 tracks recorded in 1991; includes an 80-page booklet.

Desde que era un niño, Rivero ha tocado el bandoneón, ese acordeón de cabeza hexagonal tan apreciado en el cono sur. Ahora, siendo un reconocido maestro del instrumento a nivel internacional, nos presenta 24 danzas tradicionales interpretadas aquí en el su acostumbrado estilo, transparente y natural, sin ninguna modificación electrónica. Los 25 cortes de este CD fueron grabados en 1991; incluye un cuadernillo de 80 páginas.

This is a very good CD performed by a first-rate bandoneon player and excellent musician and scholar. This uruguayan bandoneon player has traveled around the world with his wonderful interpretations and this CD is a perfect opportunity to enjoy Marino Rivero's art and to learn about uruguayan music as well as to listen to his special instrument which was acquired in 1930 and maintainted exactly as it came from the factory in Germany.

I attended one of Marino Rivero's recitals in Punta del Este, Uruguay and whether interpreting Bach or a piece of uruguayan tango, he always shows off as a first- rate artist. All his CDs are highly recommendable.

After a relatively quiet period Joe Veras is slowly and surely making is way back up to the top. This album is just full of heart-warming bachatas with penetrating lyrics. The tone of the cd is very romantic and the rhythms and lyrics exemplify its romantic air. Some songs will immediately catch your attention. Listen carefully to Por tu amor, Antidoto and Viejo amigo. Overall all the bachatas are good. Some definitely are more danceable than others. The merengues too will please you especially if you like merenbachata. In a few words this is a great album by Mr. Joe Veras...llego, llego sin duda.

Joe Veras has been in the scene for a while, (Remember "Que se mueran de envidia"). The new album, Desde Mi Alma, might be that album that could bring some shine to him. The promotional single,"Por tu Amor", is a track the women wants to hear from men who would do anything to have a woman's love. "Antidoto", "Viejo Amigo" (Duet with Alex Bueno), "Enamorado", and "Volviste con el" are signature Joe Veras tracks. Packing 9 bachatas and 3 merengues, the album is tight. "La Queja" and "Si Se Acabo el Mundo" and "Juan" are all the merengues in the album and phat. Overall, the production is creatively done with interesting instrumentation for the bachatas. Volvio "EL HOMBRE DE TU VIDA"..........

Re this set: anything by Jordi Savall is as good as it (music) gets.

Not The Greatest Hits..............but still.......2002-05-10

The enthusiast who wrote the first review missed one thing and got another just plain wrong.

This album comprises bleeding chunks torn from JD's Astree recordings: it's a hits compilation and nothing more. It cannot be one of his greatest albums - by definition.

And in any event he's doing his best work now: buy anything on his very own Audio Vox label and hear for yourselves.

Also available at the time of writing: a 4-cd set of his Virgin recordings called Espagna Antigua. Expect to pay pennies and enjoy it for the rest of your life.

Jordi savall? The real thing, no......(er)......mistake, guv.
