Very bad.......2003-09-14

Hernandez seeks to take Mariachi music in to new fields and pastures, but why do it so badly? I know this mariachi has put some good stuff out before and can do better. The only thing good about this album is the Glenn Miller popurri, but if you've seen Sol de Mexico live in concert, it's old news. However, Hernandez plays some good solo jazz trumpet. The song that he should have stayed away from was "El Cuartro." God Damn! They really butchered that "son jalisciense." Silvestre Vargas must have been rolling in his grave. Ruben Fuentes must have cringed. There are definitely some older albums by Sol de Mexico one should look at and hear.

When listening to this CD, it is clear that Jose Hernandez wanted to make this CD to show that Mariachi is capable of so much and that they should be respected for their great musicianship. Poeta y Campesino is a musical piece that shows this. The arrangements are well done and songs are played with much feeling. If you are looking for a more tradtional album of Mariachi music from Sol de Mexico, Mi Mariachi and Homenaje al Mariachi are good choices.

This cd shows that mariachis can keep up with the times. There is the traditional sound as well as the new. "Poeta y Campesino" is absolutely beautiful to me as a violinist for six years. They also show that they can cross over cultures and time with their rendition of Glenn Miller tunes.

I must admit, I was searching for my first Mariachi CD after enjoying the small wandering Mariachi bands during a recent trip to Mexico. If anyone is looking for authentic music, steer clear of this one! Way over produced, sappy, and sounds like a pops orchestra or Las Vegas show! I hated it!!! Would love to know where I can find some authentic Mariachi music?

AMISTADES PELIGROSAS, THE GREATEST.......2002-07-13

Well I am an Spanish boy, mesmerised about those opinions I've come across. I must admit that the rumour of the divorce of Amistades Peligrosas is nowadays a reality which came across 4 years ago in 1998. It was a shock for all their fans here in Spain but I have good news for those who liked Amistades Peligrsoas songs... They still sing in their own. The two components of Amistades Peligrosas are: Alberto Comesaña (The man) and Cristina del Valle (the girl). Alberto has released one cd called "Perversiones".

Cristina has released two cd's. The first one in 1999, called "El dios de las pequeñas cosas". It is a travel trough a world of ethnic sounds similar to her last cd in Amistades Peligrosas "Nueva Era".

The second one, called "Apuntes generales del mundo" is the best cd she has ever made. In it Cristina shows her sweet voice across new sounds and sensations, with lyrics from the best composers in Spain.

If you really enjoyed Amistades Peligrosas, I garantee you will discover a new world in Cristina's music, a new experience which will go further from what Amistades Peligrosas was and mean...

Rumor has it that this great duo will no longer be recording any new musical material. If this is true then it will be sad to see this happen. You see, this duo released their first album in the early 90's but it wasn't until the mid 90's that I discovered their music. After hearing their first cd "Relatos de Una Intriga," I was mesmerized. And afterwards I quickly went out to purchase their second and third albums, "La Ultima Tentacion" and "La Profecia," respectively. Now this latest, but hopefully not their final album has come to make part of "Amistades Peligrosas'" masterpieces. This album is composed of several different types of music: pop, polka, balads and new age. Probably this is why this album is named "Nueva Era." As if this spectacular music isn't great enough to make this an enjoyable cd, then we must also consider the lyrics. They are beautifully written, powerful yet at times moving. The lyrics range from different situations in life, which has been a trademark for "Amistades Peligrosas." As usual the religious themes are always present such as in "Apunta Dispara" which tells of mankind going to war only to feel abandoned by their "almighty savior, god." Then there is "Mas Circo y Mas Pan" which tells of how politicians cheat civilians, rob, and discriminate against foreigners. "Menina das Favelas" tells of a young servant girl that has never known what being a kid is about, she lives only to serve royalty. Finally there is "Quitame este Velo" which refers to women in the Middle East that must keep their bodies covered at all times, and their plea to feel free to be able to show their faces to the world. However, I am only giving my opinion and it would be best for those interested in different types of music to find out. Words are not enought to describe "Amistades Peligrosas" and their masterpieces, surely "Nueva Era" completes the circle of "Amistades Peligrosas'" great but underappreciated careers. Hopefully this duo's demise is only rumor and hopefully they may surprise us yet again with another masterpiece.

I don't why someone would not like this CD. They are great songs something new by the group and unfortunately their last new CD. I think this CD has great songs with some great lyrics to them. If you listen to their songs over their course as a group, Amistades Peligrosas sings about everything ranging from sex to religion. The name of the group and first album Relatos de una intriga is taken from the intro to Laclos's Les Liaisons Dangereuses which translates into English as Dangerous friendships, and into Spanish as Amistades Peligrosas. I would recomend to everybody to get all four of the groups albums but if you only want one get the greatest hits CD but I still think youi will be missing some great songs that are on the other CDs. Anyways, ENJOY!

I really would recommend this cd its one of the best NUEVA ERA made.I bought this cd judging how i liked their "MakeWay" cd then i loged in to this web and found they had a earlier cd that i purchased in "AMAZON" called "Bachatiando en ny" which i recommend as well these guys have great lyrics and the music as all bachata is nice as well.This is a must cd buy it with out hesitation.

Este el mejor bachata cd!!! This is the best bachata cd, especially if you already own cd's by Monchy y Alexandra, or Aventura. This trio is vocally talented two guys y una chica bonita. The album features great danceable bachatas, y un upbeat merengue para bailar. A great cd, lot's of energy, & style and there isn't a bad track on the disc. Un de el mejor cd's de Bachata de todo! Simply one of the best Bachata cd's out there!

A la verdad que me decepcionaron con este cd.Yo esperaba mas de este grupo cuando el disco salio a la venta lo compre lo escuche como 3 o 4 veces esperando que it was going to grow on me but nothing perdi mi dinero. Yo esperaba un cd como el anterior "MAKE WAY" ese disco si que me gusto tenian como que mas energia tenian esa mezcla de hiphop con bachata y cantaban en spanglish pero en este tienen nueva integrante que no me gusta como canta me gustaba la otra mejor.La mayoria de la canciones la canta Eunel desde el principio como hasta la numero 10 o 11 las otras dos las canta la nueva integrante.Creo que me gustan como 2 o 3 canciones de 13 con eso te lo digo todo. NADA QUE VER............

Its been a long time since most of us latin music fans in are mid 20's heard anything This good from Mexico's orignal Miss Blondie.Also She is the Madonna of mexico. Nueva Era is a true yuri classic.... I mean 99% of all the tracks are great. Yo se, Amiga mia,The best track Detras de mi ventana. Yuri gave her 150% here.. Also another good one is her Espejos de alma album.

A good debut album from young bachata artists.......2003-07-29

I bought this album blindly in 2001 not knowing anything about "Nueva Era" prior to my purchase but I was confident that their bachata would have an authentic rhythm and sound. This group is Dominican (from NY) but have captured the authenticity of bachata music. The album has a nice line up of songs with wonderful lyrics that have meaning and a story behind the words. I was not too keen about the merengues but other than that this group has potential. The only way they would not succeed is if they get caught up in producing mainstream bachata which usually includes English lyrics. A recommended purchase.
