SOJA has been playing in the background of my life for two years now. sad to say, after listening to peace in a time of war non-stop for so long, its hard for me to turn to anything else reggae... YES even marley. this is no knock on the roots greats believe me. SOJA is just THAT GOOD. jacobs voice is haunting and beautiful, backed up by great rythm and lines from the band this cd will stay in your player or ipod on repeat. my brother who isnt more than a passive reggae fan (marley, the occasional toots or tosh) after hearing me play the Soldiers now is hooked as well. these guys will be known as one of the american reggae greats.. Flawed Track Inclusion.......2007-07-29
I have to admit right off the bat that I don't own this album, although I've been trying to scrape up all the original soundtracks for the movies and some of the TV series. But looking through the track listing, it seems muddled with too many sound effects and tracks that could've been replaced with better ones. I wish Paramount and the recording industries would release a 2-CD set of tracks that includes only the main title sequences of each Star Trek TV series and standout tracks from the 10 feature films, since most of these soundtracks have gone out of print and are hard to find. Most of these compilations of different film tracks never include the main title sequences of the films, which are often the standout orchestral tracks of each movie. I hope they release an album like this, filled with only the best Trek music that is hard to find.
Quite good, but not a stellar "Trek".......2007-05-18
Silva Screen Records has made a name for itself releasing reproductions of modern orchestral soundtracks, with most of its products centering around a particular genre or composer. Star Trek has a history of quality music, so its no suprise Silva has taken a crack at music in the final frontier. This is a fine release, with some strong points and some weak ones as well.
IN GENERAL: For the purist looking for a "best of" compilation taken from the original soundtracks take note: this isn't that product. Rather, these are reproductions by Nic Raine conducting the City of Prague Philharmonic. That said, this is a quality group, and the general sound is professional and comes off quite well (for the most part..I'll mention a few exceptions). It is superior to the other releases I have heard from the Cincinnati Pops Orchestra.
SELECTION: The biggest advantage here is variety of sources. The Trek feature films are all represented here, as well as the various series (except for the last one, "Enterprise"). The thouroughness seems to match or excel the oher Star Trek Compilation CDs that have been released. There are a few other offbeat additions..notably a four minute suite from the videogame Star Fleet Academy. Personally, I found this bland track to be four minutes of wasted disk space. The original series has many memorable moments (listen to the Amok Time/The Doomsday Machine soundtrack) which would be be more exciting and also a better fit on this album.
Jerry Goldsmith's standard Star Trek March is heard far too often on these 2 CDs. The march itself is terrific, but it has been used so much it has become the franchise's major theme and the album's producers rely on it by representing many movies by their "End Titles". Unfortunately, Goldsmith's end titles consistently use a three-section approach: two sections of the "standard" Star Trek March sandwich a middle section of music that is unique for that particular film. This is OK if you are listening to a single movie's soundtrack, but for a compilation album, the fourth or fifth time you hear the march, it is too much. It would have been a better idea to cut a few "End Title" performances in favor of other selections from the films' soundtracks.
PERFORMANCE QUALITY: For the most part it is very good and captures the spirit of the original soundtracks. Selections from Horner's scores for the second and third films stand out as particularly well done. The last movie, "Nemesis" also has a terrifically arranged suite, and most of the movie soundtrack reproductions are very good quality. The only exception is from "Klingon Attack" in which the awesome bass of the "blaster-beam" from the original cannot be matched by the comparatively hollow synthesized atempt here.
PERSONAL GRIPE: the inclusion of sound effects. Every so often a special effect like "Warp Drive" or "Dogfight in Space" pops up between tracks. This by itself would be extremely cheesy. Add to this that these are not the actual sound effects from the TV shows or movies and the cheesiness levels reach a level I think only a Wisconsin resident could appreciate. Sci Fi music (and Star Trek in particular) seems to inspire some labels to add special effects inclusions like this. Who knows why.
Love The Soundtrack.......2007-04-03
I bought this soundtrack and I love it.A great edition to the star trek fans.
Best ST recording in the Alpha Quadrant.......2007-01-10
Great collection of Star Trek series and Movie themes; only a Klingon
Opera is missing.
I must disagree.......2005-07-17
I own all the original recordings, and I still enjoy this re-recording. It is good. It is better than the Cincinatti Pops "Symphonic Star Trek", it is better than the Richard Hayman "Star Trek" compilation from 89, its better than the Sci Fi compilation on the Edel label from 93 and for the most part is better than Varese's Ultimate Star Trek from 1998.
This collection has music you will not find anywhere else. The Tasha's Farewell track is beautiful and the only other place its avialable is the Edel "Best of Science Fiction" compilation from 1993, and while that was recorded by the same orchestra, it was with a different conductor, and comparing the two, you can tell that Nic Raine was more successful with Prague than William Motzing was. That said Edel release is also more than $30 here on amazon. Also this release is in HDCD Dolby which is a plus. There's also two cues from Star Trek: Deep Space Nine; one of them is on The Best of Star Trek: 30th Anniversary Special, the other is not on any other album. In addition, there is music from Ron Jones "Starfleet Academy" video game which is pretty cool to listen to, and not availble anywhere else that I know of. Finally, Jerry Goldsmith's main theme can get boring after a while, I mean, its repetitive that it is in all the end credit suites, it would have been nice for Insurrection to have maybe an action cue instead of the end credits suite...And Nic Raine, did just that, only for Star Trek: Nemesis. Instead of the tradition end credit suite, Mr. Raine arranged a professional suite with the main Nemesis theme, some action cues, as well as the Goldsmith Star Trek march, and it is a wonderful 8 minutes. If you already have the 3 space and beyond albums, the Star Trek Nemesis track as well as Birds of Prey Decloaking from Star Trek III are the only new tracks on this CD.
This is a must-buy for fans of star trek in general, and hardcore star trek fans should buy this album for the aforementioned cues that aren't available anywhere else.

Burton does it again !!!.......2006-09-11
This CD is pure marvel !!! About Gary Burton's playing, there's little more to add ... but what a magic gift he has to pick up new artists and take their talents to the next level, both as a tight & well assembled group as well as individuals showing their own abilities !!! ... Particularly, Julian Lage who already plays like veteran in My Romance, and this Ukrainian kid playing the piano, Vadim Neselovskyi, is so mature in everything he played... A solo album of each one will be awaited for everyone who likes jazz.
The kids can play !.......2006-08-31
Gary Burton has always had the talent for bringing out the best in younger musicians. No exception here, highly recommended !
Burton Regenerated.......2005-09-13
This is a sweet, but vibrant tour de force of the Gary Burton quartet sound with a guitar and bass line up. It features energy, enthusiasm and playfulness with strong performances overall. There is just a hint of wistfulness or nostalgia perhaps with a nod to Burton's Pat Metheny quartet days with their coverage of one of his tunes. The song selection is varied with samplings of blues, straight ahead jazz rhythmns, ballads, new songs and a "standard". The band is remarkably tight and the selections will grow on you.
Gary Burton and the kids shine........2005-08-23
Playing Gary Burton's Next Generation brought back memories of his fabulous records cut in the 1970's for ECM. The level of musicianship is topnotch as his new, young sidekicks are just awesome! Man, it's invigorating to groove on such intelligent, swinging jazz. Burton, a superlative vibist, continues to introduce his fans to wonderful new jazz players as he has done for the last 35 years. What a treat!
The Next Generation.......2005-07-08
If this is where jazz is going, count me in! The young gifted musicians Gary Burton chose for his band are absolutely gifted. Luckily, there is a place for jazz in the 21st century. This album is proof that jazz is not dead, and it is not going to die well into the future.
This is jazz for the new generation! As much as it is great to know where your history came from, and listen to the classics from Miles and Trane, it is great to listen to new fresh, modern, instant classics, and this album IS an instant classic.
Ah, the young Julian is an expert at guitar. His is fairly un known, but he is probaly going to become more recognized throughout the shape of jazz to come.
Gary Burton, is still going strong. He may be old, but he can still swing. He has grown from a little kid prodigy on the vibes, to a veteren master! He has had some classic albums before, but this release is tremendous and I can't wait for his next recording. He has come from playing jazz-rock to such magical straight ahead jazz.
Listen to this album. Listen to Gary Burton's new albums. Listen to all the new jazz albums that come out, so you know where jazz is at and where it's going. And never forget about your roots!

Great Music.......2006-03-11
One of my favorite episodes on Star Trek TNG was 'The Inner Light' I bought this CD because it has a different version of the score for that episode. It didn't let me down, I think the music is wonderful.
"Jay Chattaway takes us on musical space journey".......2001-12-12
Star Trek returned to the small screen with a new cast and concept, together with a new title ~ "STAR TREK:THE NEXT GENERATION"---at the helm once again was Gene Roddenberry with new characters that captured the hearts of a new generation---the question of scoring was answered by Jay Chattaway...who did so well he replaced Ron Jones as a regular composer for the last four seasons.
Several highlights come to mind ~ "SUITE From TIN MAN"---"SUB ROSA"---"A FISTFUL OF DATAS"...the score for "THE INNER LIGHT", is a different arrangement than the 30th Anniversary Album---must make mention of "DARK PAGE", a truly wonderful and touching theme which underscores tender moments between Troi and her mother.
A big thank you to Neil Norman(executive album producer) and Mark Banning (associate executive album producer)---for this musical journey into the realm of space through the scoring talent of Jay Chattaway, gotta love it!
Total Time: 48:21 on 14 Tracks ~ GNP/Crescendo GNPD-8057 ~ (1998)
Love It!.......1999-08-01
I love Star Trek, and this is a great selection of music from the series
Another great score by Chattaway.......1998-12-30
Jay Chattaway has composed some nice scores for several TNG episodes on this soundtrack. Along with music from Tin Man, Sub Rosa, The Inner Light, and A Fistful of Datas, music from the episodes Dark Page, Descent, and Birthright can also be found on this CD. (By the way, the score from The Inner Light is different from the one on the 30th Anniversary CD.) My personal favorites? Well, I enjoyed the music from Dark Page and Sub Rosa the most, but the others are great as well.

Sensational Gospel Group of Worshipers.......2004-01-10
The Kenoly brothers are a great team of singers. This cd isn't the best workmanship but however you can see the talent and inspiration from the two brothers. The songs are carefully chosen and written as well as great in my opinion. On this album you have some different flavors; some worship, inspiration, jazz, r&b and hip hop. I simply love it. If you listen to this cd then you will love the update junior album "No Distance". And the workmanship on that one improved and is really good. They are growing greatly in the Christian music industry. Check them out if you haven't already. You will love these guys. Keep up the great work Kenoly Brothers.

WOW!..........2002-11-08
This CD is just amazing. I met the Kenoly Brothers last Christmas, and we actually hung out for a while, and I must say that they are a big inspiration to me. I have being a Christian all my life, but I wasn't really on fire for Christ, after I heard this CD this passion for Christ immediately arose in me. I think I personally like them a lot because they are in their early 20s like I am and we go through the same things so I relate really well to their songs. Their second CD "No Distance" is just on point. It walks through the everyday live and struggles of a Christian (temptation, marital problems, spending time with God, and so much more) Whatever you are going through, I am sure you can definately find a song on one of the Kenoly Brother's CD to get you through it. I am giving the CDs "All the Way" and "No Distance" highest recommendations!!! These are awesome CDS, and they are wonderful people just like their dad. They are very down to earth and extremely cool, even their dad Ron Kenoly (anything by him is worth buying). HOG LIFE!!!!!!

Canciones favoritas:
1. Soy una gargola- Randy
2. Un sueno- rakim y Ken-y
3. Pies izquierdo- Gocho
4. Chica gargola- Wibal y Alex
5. Con ella me quedare- Zion
6. Una sensacion- Mario VI
7. Descontrol- Valentino

Best Gargolas Ever !!.......2006-08-19
Las gargolas have been around for a good while now... 1,2,3, & 4 are great albums
but next gegeration is the hottest various artist cd of 2006 hands down.... All the tracks are awsome and they all are very well done. My favorite ones would have to be the ones from my puerto rican boys Rakim & Ken Y, Zion, Franko El Gorilla , Wisin, and the newcomer to the game Cruzito. Magnate and Valentino tear it up with there own tracks shocasing ther individual styles. Overall this is one of the best reggaeton cds ever and its 100 % worth buying................................................If you like this i recommend you look out for MAGNATE's!!!! solo album coming soon!!!!!!

Customer Reviews:
fine modern swing compilation.......2000-07-20
This CD is a fine compilation of modern swing bands. In fact, this CD really is the one that first got me hooked on the new mix of swing, jump blues, boogie, lounge and such. It ranges from some pretty straight-ahead swing versions of classics (e.g., Cole Porter) to more offbeat bands like Alien Fashion Show (though I have no idea what the Mighty Mighty Bosstones are doing on this album !). A good variety of styles are presented.
I think too much is made in other reviews about the "poor sound quality" of this CD. The sound is very bright, "in your face" and it's true that balance is sometimes lacking a bit. But the point is most folks (I believe) like to hear swing that way ! I liked it.
Good Introduction to the New Swing Style.......2000-06-20
This CD is a great introduction to the new generation swing style. There are renditions of various songs by almost every single major new swing artist with some notable exceptions (Cherry Popping Daddies are nowhwere to be found). And the CD is definitely in that style of music. My biggest problem is that the renditions on here sound a little different as if they have been modified in some way, it's not horrible but definitely noticeable if you've heard the originals. I honestly don't like many greatest hits albums like this one, I just find it worth my while to get the original discs. For instance the original Brian Setzer Orchestra disc is much better than this one and even has more variety in terms of the song styles. Overall though this disc makes a nice introduction to someone who wants to find out if they even like this type of music.
Great CD, Must Have.......2000-03-08
if you love the classics, you got to have this one, all by the orginal artist. i have ordered more for gifts and friends who have been asking about it.
Bad Sound Quality, Good Songs.......1999-02-05
I agree with jarrett@sprynet.com. The sound on this CD is not good. However, the songs are fun and I really like working out to this CD--it really get the heart rate going.
Overprocessed Swing.......1999-02-01
There's something wrong with this CD. I'm not sure why, but it sounds like somebody took some regular tracks, and tried to "enhance" them by tweaking with the eq and compressing the sound. In a couple of the tracks, the high notes are painfully sharp at times. The CD's also lacking good contrast in the music--due to what sounds like compression (which "smooths" out the music, eliminating volume variations), and this makes the songs sound just awful. The backing horn section is often barely audible, while the lead section blasts in a flat-volumed blah.
I guess you can expect a compilation of such low quality when they print on the back of the CD, "GAP TV Commercial Theme Song" as a description of Jump, Jive, An' Wail. (Which is somewhat wrong--the song is right, but the CD includes a processed mix of the original Louis Prima version, not the Brian Setzer one used in the ad) Other bad tracks include a version of Zoot Suit Riot, which I'm almost positive was done using a synthesizer. Do they think we won't notice?
I wasn't expecting much--just wanting to hear new bands, but from what I've heard, I wouldn't want to try the other bands out. However, I've listened to some of the bands on the CD with their original albums, and it sounds a whole lot better. If you just want a general idea of what type of style the band plays, this CD might be okay. But don't use it as a definate judgement against these guys. I'd recommend "Hipsters, Zoots & Wingtips" a lot more than this comp; while that CD is not purely swing as this one claims to be, the sound is much better.
BTW, I haven't looked at the video yet (free mail-in offer), but I'm not expecting much.

This intriguing collection features four neo-trad bands: Ireland's Kila and Lúnasa, plus Shooglenifty and the Peatbog Faeries from Scotland. Each uses related Gaelic sources as a jumping-off spot to destinations unknown, weaving multistrand day-glo Celtic knots by any means necessary. Downtown club styles like drum & bass, house, and techno romp amid the shamrocks and heather, but are applied with such taste, humor, and nonviolent restraint that the acoustic traditions emerge enhanced rather than extinguished. Shooglenifty's chatty, quirky "Bjork's Chauffeur" and their elegiac "August" are especially notable. Lúnasa contribute a syncopated, jazzy ode to an ancient Druidic seasonal celebration called "Bealtainne" (a bit of trivia: their name refers to another one of these). Kila's "Gwerzy," a hyperactive and uniquely merry treatment of a Breton lament, is another standout, as is a set of trance-infused jigs by the Peatbog Faeries titled "Alexander MacAskill of Berneray/Harris." --Christina Roden

Untamed is a huge hit!!.......2006-06-26
Best compilation of Celt/Gael, traditional, funk, bagpipe, groove, swaying, music that makes your brain melt! I love it! Scotland Forever!!!

The best.......2006-01-17
As soon as I heard the snippet of "Gwerzy," I knew I had to have this CD. With the ethereal melodies of the Peatbog Faeries and the way-out-there pieces by Shooglenifty, this CD is one of those "deep cuts" gems that Celtic music fans are sure to love. "Bjork's Chauffeur" quickly became my favorite song of all time after I bought this CD. Get it. Dance to it. Scare your friends.
ABSOLUTE MUST HAVE for celtic music fans.......2004-07-23
If you're a fan of celtic music you should not be without this CD! It has everything from fiddle, violin, bagpipes, celtic whistle and the list goes on! The songs represent a wide variety of mood that covers . . ., well, everything. You've got your upbeat jig from Shooglenify on track 3. A surreal solemness on track 8 and everything in between from the rest of these to-be-treasured tracks. I'm picky with my music and if it doesn't have a certain something, that conveyance of emotion, I don't take the time to review it. This CD was well worth the money and the time for me to write this. If anyone is disappointed by this CD, I would be shocked.
A New Twist.......2004-03-22
I own several CDs of Celtic music, but this one stands out among them as a unique example of the new face of a beautiful style of music. Shifting moods between songs adds to the impact of this wonderful collection.
AWESOME CD!!!.......2003-12-21
