To call them a Latin Rock band (quoting Rolling Stone magazine) doesn't do them half the musical justice they deserve. In an age where it's not unlikely to see extreme blends of styles, Panama-based Los Rabanes is a trio that blends in an exquisite and extremely contagious way the sounds of Punk, Power Rock, Calypso, Reggae, Ska, Hip Hop, Merengue, House and Salsa, bringing back to mind the legendary Argentinian band, Fabulosos Cadillacs with Spanglish lyrics.

In this self-titled release recorded in Miami, with Roberto Blades (Ruben's yoonger brother) and Emilio Estefan Jr. in the producer's seats, Los Rabanes create a unique stadium-like party environment that will get anyone with half an ear to listen and a leg to move, jumping into the dance floor in a few beats! It's virtually impossible to come up with a fave song. The entire album is highly danceable and a "rumba" from end to end!

This is a terrific, great, smashing CD, I've had had it for years and never get tired of listening to it. Some songs like "Angelito Porno Star" has strong sexual content, may be a bit much for younger teens or children (who speak Spanish)so be forwarned... The sound is spicy, vibrant and energetic, a mix of several different styles. It is not uncommon for musicians to try to mix things and come up with their own style -usually with simply ghastly results in my opinion- but I still encourage it because once in a long while what you get is what Rabanes achieved in this album: genius! And if you understand a bit of the culture/history of Panama, you'll appreciate the humor in "My Commanding Wife". "Senorita..." and "I fought the law" are outstanding as well, but unlike with most other albums I own, I listen to the all the songs without skipping!! You will enjoy this CD, those guys really know their music.

Best Latin CD of 2002 By Far.......2003-05-23

Mind you this is for hardcore latin music listeners, no sappy dull ballads here, but terribly funny and highly energetic music that makes you wanna move your "Bam Bam".

Even if you dont know Spanish the infectious guitars and the caribbean rhythms here will make listening fun. But listen closely and you will find phrases in English sprinkled about.

My fave songs the dynamic ACETONA by far! BAM BAM is fun, as well as the normal version of EVERYBODY, I feel the broken hearted pain described in CARTA DE AMOR, LOVE IN NEW ORLEANS is more toned down but great! Now, CAPRICHOS is nostalgically reminiscent of old BUSH ballads-great song. Sorta reminds you that this is an electric guitar playing trio.

Oh, and a real treat is the Digitally remastered version of their best hit SENORITA A MI ME GUSTA.... at the end of the CD what are you waiting for? You gotta have this.

Tropical funny party music.......2003-05-15

Hailing from Panama, the same country that brought Ruben Blades(who was pivotal with their previous releases) to International audiences comes this trio that packs a terrific sound. Rabanes cover a variety of styles, including reggae, ska ,salsa, calypso, rock, hip-hop and some intangibles. They are bicultural but clearly Latino. Their exuberence is catchy and fresh for a fun sound that is invigorating. If this doesn't get your motor running nothing will. The trio is backed by super musicians and the production talents of none other than mega producer Emilio Estefan Jr. The music is upbeat and reveals the humor of these Panamanians to be universal. Take the opening track, "Money" which opens with an auctioneer rattling off the selling price and " where the young men talk about "sin dinero no hay amor"( without money there is no love) or the conceptually strung together tracks "Thank Yous" where everyone is thanked for there help on the disc and two versions of "Everybody" where simple phone recordings are mixed into the songs as each member takes a turn at the continuation of thanks. This is a fun disc that should be played a todo volumen(at full volume) to full appreciate the festive mood.The dance beats are often of the jump, jump, jump around variety that come around to smooth salsa, grooving to a back beat and shaking your sensibilities with ragga-muffin style hip-hop. "Carta de Amor' could easily be coming from Cartagena but it is Panama. They are talented and can play melodic , cool laid back and dream music as evidence with "Tu Caprichos" that is a swaying bolero that heats up like the fever it incites between lovers. I have to mention that "El Queso" is one of the most clever play on words I've heard in awhile and is probably why there is a "parental warning for explicit lyrics."If you like the music of King Chango, Disorden Publico, Todos Tus Muertos or Molotov than you will love this disc because it is all that and then some. These guys rock the house in a clearly distinctive Latino style. They have planted the bandera de sabor(flag of flavor) for the party nation. This is vital music for your fiesta wherever you are coming to you via Panama.

It;s not rock at a point....Example #2 Bam Bam, I heard on a music channel and it has rythum... and that is the only reason way I bought this cd and a well deserved 5 stars....Give it a listen you me agree that #2 Bam bam is the best song :) L8ter

this cd is alot more commercialized and poppy than the previous, but it is incredibly fun and energetic, true to rabanes-style. if you are obsessed with their other cds, you'll be obsessed with this one too, guaranteed. compralo ya!

Off the Chart.......2002-05-15

Excellent follow-on to their prior CDs. Not my genre, but I can't stop listening to it. Money, Everybody, DJ, and La Raza are jamming, edgy and impossible to keep the volume down, so don't even try. Other songs like BamBam and Carta de Amor are solid with a distinctive hint of Panamanian "tipica" music. I saw the CD release concert in Miami and these guys are the real deal. Now they will find out Money Pa Que!

What happened?.......2006-02-03

Something happened with Los Rabanes...their record company changed or they aren't getting the support they deserve. Their last two CDs were great, but I haven't heard much about this one. Haven't seen one copy in stores. Why? I'm rating this one star not based on hearing the CD, but on NOT hearing the CD. It's simply not available.

Their official web site is outdated and useless. Have they lost interest in their fans? It's one thing if they aren't getting label support, but what have they done for themselves lately? If they want to sell records and get reviews on this site, the largest CD retailer in the world, they have to put forth some effort.

If you are a Reggaeton fan you must try this CD !!.......2005-02-24

This is their best CD to date, there is not one bad song in the album, I have been listening to it beginning to end since I got it two weeks ago. The Rabanes' sound defies classification, perhaps the 3rd song of the album "Rockton" says it best: "Rockton: Rock con Reggaeton" but call it what you will, the Rabanes' sound is a sexy mix of rock, rap, reggae and salsa music. The colaborations with Don Omar (Rockton) and Vicentico (El Tequila) are both a success, in fact they may be the best songs of the album. Their music is upbeat and feel good, but with an attitude. Listening to this CD will make you want to go out and party!

differente, pero muy bueno.......2005-01-28

Los rabanes con este disco tratan de hacer una mezcla de estilos, o al menos su estilo no se escucha en Florida. Es mas o menos como una mezcla entre un rock, reggeaton, y reggea tradicional. Los intrumentos de la banda: guitarra, bajo, bateria, percusion, y trombon(an~aden otros instrumentos en ciertas canciones) se mezclan de tal forma que suena de una calidad mas alta que mucho reggeaton de Puerto Rico, y lo digo siendo puertoriquen~o. Pero no se destacan nada mas con ese ritmo, y es esa variedad la que los hace increibles.
Lo unico negativo es que las canciones son cortas, y solo hay doce, haciendo el CD un poco corto.

EL CD QUE VOLVIO A DAR VIDA AL ROCK DE PANAMA!!.......2006-02-21

Este cd es el primero de LOS RABANES, una banda panameña nacida en la ciudad de Chitre quienes con su tenacidad y esfuerzo relanzaron el ROCK panameño (panarock. Para cuando LOS RABANES lanzaron este cd, el movimiento ROCK de Panama habia caido en un impasse luego del desbande de QUARZO (sin duda alguna la banda que reinicio a nivel masivo el Rock panameño en 1988-1989 cuando OCEANO estaban en Mexico tratando de surgir), y debido a que los promotores de eventos envenenaron el circuito exigiendo a los grupos tocar "covers" y como tercer factor, que cada emisora se amarro a una banda y solo tocaba la musica del grupo que manejaba. Esto casi mata a las bandas de ROCK del pais que aparecieron y se hicieron conocidas luego que los muchachos de QUARZO se hicieran famosos con su "CHICA DE LA PLAYA/RECUERDOS" y aparecieran excelentes bandas como los "33", "ALPHA CRUCIS", "PESO NETO", "2.8", "ANONIMO", y muchas otras tales como "TIERRA DE NADIE", esta ultima todavia activa y posiblemente la mejor banda de Rock de Panama (salvo criterio en contrario).

En este cd, el primero de LOS RABANES, hay muchos exitos de primera linea del ROCK NACIONAL, el primero es sin duda "PORQUE TE FUISTE BENITO" (un clasico del Rock panameño), asi como "EN EL CUARTO DE LUIS" entre otras. Lo que si es cierto, es que aqui empieza la evolucion de LOS RABANES, ya nunca volvieron a ser como en este cd, cuando los tomo de la mano Emilio Stefan.

This is a great album, but they doesnt throw it to the international market.....so it's hard for the new fans outside panama to listening to their first album.....

This album is almost pure rock....a little bit different than their future albums but's still ROCKS
