RCA Victor please us wiht this very old records, the most of them were singles. For example Parece que va a llover or Ya son las doce. If you would like to hear Beny's first records you nead this Cd. I think it's cheep, it's dificult to find it.If you are a cuban musicologist you will love it.

There are two Lucha Reyes, one from Mexico (this one) and the other from Peru. Make sure you are ordering the right one! It is very hard to find recordings of the Peruvian Lucha Reyes, although they are well worth the trouble.

Lucha Reyes was a tragic Peruvian singer of great intensity, perfect diction, beautiful sense of rythm and poignant soulfulness. Her voice reminds one of the young Edith Piaf, it is a powerful, resonnant instrument and although she died young because of very poor health, she remains one of Peru's emblematic singers.

Singer Lucha Reyes, before her suicide in 1944, transformed the Mexican ranchera into a distillation of her own tragedies. Her tequila-soaked voice held Mexico as spellbound as Edith Piaf ruled France, but her life was even darker: her faithless husband and friends pale beside the demonic mother who raised her in a brothel. Yet she could not avoid passing this pain onto the child she adopted - or bought - to raise. Ripstein, in the film "Reina de la Noche" [Queen of the Night] transmutes biographical elements into an even more riveting vision of myth and destruction where melodrama melts into obsessive destruction.

Mariano Merceron- " Danzones Padres".......2000-05-02

This CD is a very small portion of the recordings of one of the greatest cuban jazz bands of all times. Clarinet/saxophone player, composer and band director Mariano Merceron was born in the Province of Oriente in Cuba. After playing with some local bands he decided to form his own band in the late 30's and traveled to Havana, where he sought and recruited even more talented musicians to enhance the sound of his orchestra. Luminaries like Beny More,Fernando Alvarez, Pacho Alonso Fernando Fernandez, Antonio Prieto and other famous cuban and other latin american singers sang and recorded with Merceron during the 40's and 50's. During his two stays in Mexico, the first from around 1944 through 1950 and the second and final one, when he stayed there for good, from around 1956 until his death in 1976. Mariano Merceron's repertoire consisted mainly of cuban "danzones". This CD includes some of the "danzones" recorded for RCA in Mexico, during his first and second tours, old classics like "Almendra", "Juarez", (originally entitled Marti, No Debio de Morir) "La Barca de Oro", "Maria Elena", "Por Un Cerro Mejor","Nereidas",etc.all identify Merceron's powerful style. Unfortunately BMG/RCA has shelved 99% of Merceron recorded hits and keep giving "little drops of water", to all of us victims of a "long and unnecesary Merceron drought". Too bad, there should be more, lots more!

I love all her songs. She sings as if she is living the song. It is true that she cries when she performs and so you don't know what she is truly feeling. I know she is the greatest. I especially love "Mucho Corazon" which means "lots of heart". I love you Amalia!
