Just another band from Buenos Aires.......2002-03-18

This band show their influences on their sleeves on this double CD compilation of tracks from 8 CDs. There are two bonus tracks, a remix of the excellent 'Mal bicho' and a mellow live singalong rocker, 'Igual a quien'.

I was deceived by the particapation of Mick Jones into thinking that the style of The Clash was the only well from which they drank. Instead, they show their assimilation of Madness, the Skatalites, the Beatles and Fishbone as well as the rhythms of Latin America such as Brazilian samba and drum choirs and tango from their native Argentina. Their version of 'Strawberry Fields Forever' is first rate with guest vocals by Deborah Harry of Blondie and tasty horn solos set to a strict ska tempo. Even my 75 year old mother likes that one!

It should be noted that the track listing for the second CD is incorrect and that most tracks on both discs are real corkers, as we say on my planet! Los Fabulosos Cadillacs are leaders of the 'rock en espagnol' (Rock in spanish) movement and my guess is that Los Lobos have a lot to answer for and that these boys deserve the praise. You don't need to speak Spanish to enjoy this album, but you do need to know how to have....FUN!

I would like to recommend this cd and especially "rey azucar" to everyone who likes ritmolatino. The music really makes me happy and I can not listen to it without moving my buttom.

Since i listened this compilation i havent stopped to play it. The music elements that this latin band uses is simply awesome. you can find infinity of styles like ska, reggae, rock and a lot more... the really fans of los fabulosos cadillacs will not find a real deal buyin' it, except for the 2 unedited songs, but for all the others that want to pick a real winner grab this cd inmediately!!!!

Esta gente debía de tener el mismo status de bandas como Soda Stéreo,pero igualmente tenía una gran cantidad de seguidores en Latinoamérica por mucha de las canciones que se encuentran en este recopilatorio,desde La Voz de los 80 hasta Corazones Rotos todas las canciones son disfrutables y te transportan a esa excelente época cuando la banda estuvo activa (los ochenta y principios de los noventa).Si eres fanático del rock en español no puedes perdertelo...!

This is one of the best audio CD's I own...it is so old that it makes it so avant garde. This CD I find better than CORAZONES, which may be perceived as misogynistic in its lyrics. Either one is a great piece of music.

Someone should tell the Argentine reviewer who said this CD is a ' lack of talent ' and childish songs to REALLY listen to it, maybe again and draw a more educated conclusion. It is very good, and represents an excellent version of one of Chile s better groups of contemporary work

It isn t very complex music, like Yes, or Chile s Los Blops ( really recommended from 1970, 71 & 73 ) or the melodic Lucybell of now and the 1990 s

But it is a very personal account of music that was creatd when Chile was in a reduced state of expression: MIlitary dict. This isn t the place to talk about that period of time. There are many books to document one s self on that. but the most important thing - and this is what really surprises me of the very negative review I read below - is that Prisioneros reunited in 2001 for a blow out tour of Chile, South america and the US, that N one ever thought they would do. It surprised even the most naive.

This cd is an excellent compilation of their music, which being a very straight ahead 4 / 4 type of rock, has grooves and melodies that only THEY did, and have put Chile in a state of ecstasy since they returned in 2001. Now, they split again in early 2005, and they are pursuing intriguing solo careers. Cheers to them. Salud amigos

This is one of the best cd's I've ever had the pleasure of listening to, it's a great introduction to these legendary Chilean rockers. If you're into 80's synth or just 80's music, you should give this a listen.

It's Sinfonias with extras!.......2007-01-27

The first eight tracks are the exact same ones from the 1971 UA release "Sinfonias" so if you are looking for that album, here it is! This is the only CD that has track 7 Tchaikovsky's 5th from Sinfonias.

I wore out two copies of Sinfonias and had been looking for it on CD. here it is!

When I listened the version Ode to Joy with this orchestra director I decided to get it because this is a piece of real good performance. In the past I got a cd of Waldo de los Rios but Ode to Joy was not in it until I finally found it now. That was the only reason I decided to buy this CD. In this cd you will enjoy "las bodas de fígaro" too; this is another music diamond and you can not miss it!

Long before Rickey Martin,Enrique Iglesias, and others there was the one and only Camilo Sesto! This gentleman best exemplifies beautiful lyrics with strong and smooth vocals. A true catch for any one who respects classic latin/spanish sounds. No "vida loca" or "bon bon" shaking here, for the fan that sees beyond all hype and fads.

Cypress Hill are one of my favorite groups of the 90's, I must admit, that at 1st I didn't liked them because they were so metal, but when I took interest on chicano cultures I started to like them, Sen Dog is my fave one

A few misfires but a very potent arsenal.......2001-04-25

I don't speak a word of Spanish but I am a fan of Cypress Hill and Control Machete. After I heard that this was coming out I thought it would be interesting to listen to and after I heard "No Entiendes La Onda" ("How I Could Just Kill A Man" en espanol) that really decided me.

The sound of this album is roughly equivalent to the sound of each song in English, mostly. Because of the problems of translating between the two languages, there are often some beats which should (or, in the English versions, do) have lyrics on them or lyrics without beats - however the "homeless syllble syndrome", as a friend christened it - is hardly terminal.

The thing which is particularly interesting for students of cross-cultural linguistics is how rapping in a different language really puts a different tone on a familiar track. "How I Could Just Kill A Man" becomes a lot more menacing when performed in Spanish, while the emphasis on "Insane In The Brain" changes from the infamous sample to the elastic-tongued rapping when the song becomes "Loco En El Coco". In a purely subjective sense, it is very entertaining to listen to Real and Sen rapping "Medio loco en el coco/ido de la mente" over the "Insane" sample - although the song does lose the "Don't you know I'm loco?" intro and the sampled outro.

One rather bored afternoon I had the brainwave of translating these Spanish lyrics into English. I am still unsure whether it was due to Babelfish's inability to understand idiom or whether that is actually what the words were, but it is now almost impossible to take "Loco En El Coco" seriously again. This is due to the comic frequency of a word translated as "frog" in the version given to me by Babelfish. I still can't quite work out what the word replaced in the English version.

One of the problems with Cypress Hill is that their albums generally have a fair number of tracks on which it is clear that B-Real, Sen and co didn't work for enough time. Here it can be seen again, there are some tracks (especially the ones written especially for the album) which do have a distinct sound of not having been really taken notice of.

The only other downside for me on this album is the fact that my copy of the CD doesn't work on my CD player - so I have to borrow my parents' to enjoy the idiosyncratic delights of this album. This is made up by the fun of playing "Loco" at a party and being told to take it off - before the listener's face gets a puzzled expression at the reams of Spanish coming out of the speakers.

On the whole, a great CD for Cypress Hill fans (especially those who speak Spanish) or fans of Spanish music. If you want a good fun album which is certainly something different, this is the way to go.

cypress hill finally release an album for their spanish speaking fans all over the world.the songs are from past albums but redone in spanish.they are the same beats but the lyrics are just as good in spanish.some of the songs even sound better in spanish! a must have for all hardcore cypress hill fans.

Cool idea.......2000-05-17

Now THAT was an idea: "Let's make a greatest hits album, but let's redo all the songs en espanol!" I have always loved the Hill's canciones en espanol, especially Tres Equis and Latin Lingo from their first album.

If you listen carefully (and know some Spanish), you can tell that some of the lyrics had to be changed around in order to have the same meaning. Unfortunately, the songs that were translated into Spanish from English didn't seem to be as finely crafted as the ones that were originally written in Spanish (check out Siempre Peligroso). Now, I can't understand a lot of what they're rapping, but I can sense that some of the lyrics had to be compressed in order to fit in with the music. Unfortunately, this gives a different lyrical tempo to some of the songs and seems to change them. Not that this is entirely bad...it just takes a little getting used to if you've listened to the original versions enough to have the tempo down in your mind.

All in all, a very impressive album. I'd love to see an entire album of new songs written entirely en espanol.

Descubrí a Los Gatos buscando los orígenes del rock argentino.Definían tres pilares:Almendra,Manal y Los Gatos.A los dos primeros los conocía.Eran (y siguen siendo)espectaculares.Eran fines de los 60s.Toda la onda psico y bluesera.Los Gatos aparecen en ese entorno.Algo de Beatles,Kinks,Iracundos.Letras sencillas,armonías sesenteras.
Excelente recopilación de sus mejores discos.Altamente recomendable.

If you feel nostalgic for the 60's in Argentina, this is the right music for you. I grew up listening to this kind of music. Some of it is featured in the great and lovable movie "Valentin". Watch the movie, listen to the CD. Los Gatos are a sweet band, an Argentinian version of the Beatles. Extremly easy listening, simple lyrics with simple, catchy melodies that are irresistible!

bueno la verdad q escuchar alos rodriguez fue algo diferente se nota la calidad en sus letras su rebedia esa latinidad, x qen sudamerica no hay buenas bandas de rock solo pop, como la ley , mana q no llenan el corazon de un rockero o soda estero q cantan como americanos , el unico grupo salvable son los ''prisioneros'' de chile ynada mas asi Q SALUD RIDRIGUEZ Y HASTA 1OOPRE . desde PERU mfegale@hotmail.com

Si Santana decía que el rock es una piscina y el jazz el mar, este disco es una bañera. Uno de los misterios del mundo es que a alguien le gusten los temas de Andrés, sobre todo porque no hay originalidad, se entiende muy mala leche de fondo en las letras (muy argentino)y además sus producciones no aportan nunca nada nuevo. Pero si han premiado a otros porteños con tan poco talento como él, por ej. a Fito y lanzado también a Coti, debe ser que el mercado está sordo y desorientado. Prefiero a Charly, Gieco, Spinetta, Moris...

Este es un cd que merece la pena ser escuchado una y otra vez, es un recopilatorio a modo de despedida de un gran grupo y la verdad es que consigue emocionar con todas y cada una de sus canciones. Es sin duda lo mejor de un gran grupo y contiene la esencia de una carrera que ha sido corta pero intensa. Ahora ya sólo nos queda escuchar los nuevos trabajos de Calamaro y Ariel Roth en solitario... Mientras tanto Hasta luego es un magnífico recordatorio de lo que fueron y serán Los Rodríguez.
