4 out of 5 stars Back to the 90's.......2007-01-10

It's good to hear the big voice of Martha Wash in Black Box (never knew who was the girl appeared in the videos, but well... for me it's the voice, not the look the important thing).
All the hits, very good megamix. Over 70 minutes of classic dance music

3 out of 5 stars Italino House at its best.......2005-08-12

I love the thourght of a band that only releases one album also releases a greatest hits CD.
But Black Box was the band that started the whole Italion House and I love it.
If you dont have "Ride on time" In our collection of get this one. but the best Black Box CD I have is still "Right on Time" the origenal 12" Extended Mix

5 out of 5 stars all good.......2005-08-02

5 out of 5 stars The only Black Box album you need!.......2005-02-24

I came across this album recently while browsing in the dance/freestyle section of my local record store, and remembering I used to jump up and down on my bed to "Everybody Everybody" when I was 14, immediately bought it. "Hits And Mixes" contains all of Black Box's smash hits from the early 1990s, including "Ride on Time", "I Don't Know Anybody Else", "Strike It Up", "Fantasy" and of course "Everybody Everybody". In addition to all of the tracks from their one (and only) album "Dreamland" (with the exception of the title track, really just a 2-minute instrumental, and therefore not missed), "Hits and Mixes" actually improves on that album by including several remixes, including the 1994 trance remix of "Ride on Time", the popular Le Freak mix of "Everybody Everybody" (joy!), a soulful acid house remix of "Strike It Up", a new club track called "Get Down", and a Megamix medley! Overall, this is probably the most complete and comprehensive Black Box album you can get your hands on at this writing. If you love classic Italian-style House music with strong diva vocals, you will love this album! Put it in your CD player, and in no time, you will be transported back to 1990, and jumping up and down on your bed to the beat! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!

5 out of 5 stars the boys from Logo finally get a single release.......2007-06-29

The gay twin brothers who made it big on Logo with their own reality show about coming out while pursuing a recording career have finally released their first single. And no, it is not a cover version of the classic Sparks new wave synth track. It's an original, and it is produced by none other than writer/producer Desmond Child, an openly gay man who was responsible for a whole lot of songs on Cher's 1980s come back rock albums. Here, though, it's ALL about the dance music. The blend of mixes goes from disco house to tribal to my favorite, the electro pop house Dave Aude mix. Tracks are:

1. soul seekers mix (7:16)

2. dave aude mixshow (5:58)

3. bronleewe & bose mix (5:53)

4. tracy young extended club mix (6:49)

5. tracy young extended video mix (6:51)

6. almighty mix (6:41)

4 out of 5 stars It's been a long time coming.......2007-04-01

I've been looking for MCL's "New York" on CD for over 20 years. This week that search has ended. I don't know how I finally stumbled across this release, but i'm glad I did. I bought it immediately and watched my mailbox like a hawk until it arrived. The "Dancefloor Cut Mix" is the mix that I remember best from the 12" vinyl record I used to listen to (and still own). I have been close to trying to figure out how to digitize my 12" in the last few years, but luckily I found this first. The sound is great - let me state that I'm no audiophile and won't get into re-master quality etc.. - but considering my memory of this track has pops and scratches from being on vinyl - it's amazing. None of that here. For me the other 11 tracks on this disc are icing. It's always great to have Razormaid mixes of anything - and you get 6 on this disc. If you are hoping for a booklet, you're out of luck. The front insert is double sided with the track listing on the reverse. The original 1986 and 1987 publising dates are nowhere to be found on the inserts either. All tracks are dated 2006 ZXY Music.

It's hard to imagine Aphex Twin having a more appropriately named label (Warp); fitting also that 26 Mixes for Cash should have such an honest title. Having passed off a random gabba track as a Lemonheads remix and not bothering to hear the Nine Inch Nails originals before handing over his mixes, Aphex Twin has historically proved a little wayward in his methods. Not so much remixing as recycling, Richard D James's method is not unlike flinging tracks into a garbage crusher just long enough so only the bare bones of melody and structure survive. Covering a decade's work, this stunning eclectic mix effortlessly flicks from cinematic ambience (Nine Inch Nails--"At the Heart of It All") and industrial pandemonium (Mescalinum United's "We Have Arrived") to squelching acid trance (his own previously unreleased acid edit of "Windowlicker"). The disparate range of artists remixed is as remarkable as the music, with Mike Flowers Pops and Wagon Christ making unlikely bedfellows. Improbable yet inspired highlights come in the form of his haunting interpretation of David Bowie's "Heroes" symphony conducted by Philip Glass and the breathtakingly ethereal transformation of Curve's "Falling Free." --Christopher Barrett

Album Description

A 26 track compilation on 2 CDs of Aphex Twin's blinding remixes (plus two previously unreleased Aphex tunes). Encompassing 10 years of always evolving, unpredictable Aphex Twin sounds, from acid trax and raved-up bangers to strangely commercial pop and his inimitably delicate, ambient empathies. Gatefold digipak. Warp. 2003.

4 out of 5 stars Good buy!.......2007-02-19

I bought this cd for my guy and he loved it. He doesnt listen to it enough in my opinion though. :/

5 out of 5 stars Brilliant........2006-12-15

A completely worthwhile album; wide variety of stellar remixes. I really, really love this album, despite a couple of really bizarre and unlistenable tracks. And even the unlistenable tracks are really fascinating. RDJ is laughing himself silly right now, if he reads this, because he often pooh-poohs his own genius. He probably helped compose The Beauty of Being Numb Section B in 5 minutes on the crapper, and here I am calling it brilliant. He probably worked really hard on that mix and composed Time to Find Me with the whole crapper/5 minutes thing. Or not.

Either way, it's been, what, a couple of years now, and I still can't get enough of this album. Absolutely essential for Aphex Twin fans, and not a bad starter-kit for newbies either.

4 out of 5 stars Thank you, may I have another?.......2005-12-24

More melodies would have been nice; I may make my own remixes of these songs (I'd just be adding more melodies) in order to make the music more satisfying :) As always, he delivers those tantalizing drum beats and creates a great c.d., but there just weren't any songs that amazed me. Expect an interesting set of songs, just don't expect them to be mind-blowing. Of course, that's my point of view, if you're new to this genre, this could be mind-blowing; when I first heard Karsten Pflum (who led me to check out Richard James) I was totally blown away.

5 out of 5 stars 26 Mixes For Cash.......2005-10-02

Ok I give little green papers and get this? What a deal! Depending on how you pay for this whether it be through a few small numbers (credit card), a $20 piece of paper, or 20 one dollar pieces of paper, you are getting a mighty fine deal.

Let me start off by saying Aphex Twin is not a thing of the past, because the music is classic. It has a certain beauty to it that sets it apart. Some of the tracks on "26 Mixes For Cash" have a greater track length than his previous material, which is a pretty darned good thing. This is because the majority of the tracks are quite trance-like, but not in a club-ish, repetitive sense. There is a sense of sameness throughout each track but it has great subtle variety which one would only notice after a few listens. There are interesting parts in each track which sound like they could be organically made through instrumental group but it is somehow all put together using computer electronics.

I would say his first recording, SAW 85-92, was his most important release, the Richard D. James album is his most defined of the crazy persona which is Aphex Twin, and this is his most trance-like, beautiful, polished, and expertly nob twiddled recording.

This recording is different than the other Aphex Twins in the sense that it is more digestible, because of its organic nature. It's sort of like a more recent version of Selected Ambient Works 85-92, except this one covers a greater variety of sounds and is more intricate. If you like electronic music then you will love this CD, no joke. This is a defining moment for electronic music and how far out the genre can reach, which is so diverse, at the same time slightly minimalistic, but not at any point is it uninteresting.

Basically you should own this CD, and I will put my foot down that if you do not love it, you need to try a different genre because you are cray-z. It is a very nice mix of techno, drill & bass, drum & bass, ambience, and electronic in extraordinary chilling beauty whether it be dark, sparse, or haunting bliss. This is a hard album to give highlights, and all the tracks have their own feel, making this one of the most impressive CDs I've heard yet.

2 out of 5 stars Bleeps. Bloops. Kinda blah........2005-03-08

I bought this after hearing the remix of Gavin Bryars' "Sinking of the Titanic," (the original is a beautiful piece of music; the remix is cool, too). The rest of 26 Mixes, well....

Disc 1 is ok, but most of the tracks make their points early and then go on for too long. Disc 2 is, however, pretty lousy. Apparently, taking a tune, dicing it up and making it sound like basically a hard drive crashing is of interest to some folks. It's of interest to me, too .... briefly.

Once vanessa van hermert's vocal was added chart success was destined. Constant touring by dj jan de vos (4 strings main driving force) with up to 2 trips per year to australian shores, has seen the 4 strings name cemented into the psyche of australian dance fans and really developed a loyal following in this country.

1 out of 5 stars Make-believe club music for kids only!.......2006-10-03

If the main goal was to entertain kids only, then this collection of popular disney songs from films serves its purpose. However, it is highly unlikely that kids would pick this CD as a must-have for their disney collection given the format in which these songs are presented. Club music has come a long way and Disney's dance mixes are a disservice to Clubland.

It is disheartening to hear legendary artist Donna Summer perform a house version of "Someday" to disastrous results. The vocals are amazing! Undoubtedly, she could never possibly disappoint, but the music track and production are done poorly.

Enlisting red-hot, then, vocalist Robin S ("Show Me Love") to make "Colors of the Wind" her own was a dream come true. Excellent delivery with magnificent vocals. The production still falls short to make this a memorable record.

Both singers had massive sucesses with their previous singles: Donna Summer's "Melody Of Love (Wanna Be Loved)" was Billboard's Top Dance Single Of The Year and Robin S's "Show Me Love" became an instant classic.

David Morales (remixer of Donna Summer's "Melody Of Love (Wanna Be Loved)" and Stonebridge (remixer of Robin S's "Show Me Love") would have been, then again, perfect to do the remixing honors respectively. Top singers deserve top DJs who are masters in their craft.

The rest of the songs are for-kids-only uptempo takes that do not necessarily make any of them sound any better. While the vocalists do a fine job performing the songs, the production seems to have been at the helm of an amateur DJ.

All of us who have been enthralled by the magic of Disney one way or another should step outside the kingdom to find inspiring club music that our Mouse could introduce to its subjects if only it wished upon a star to meet the likes of Hex Hector, Victor Calderone, Richard "Humpty" Vission, Frankie Knuckles, Todd Terry, Junior Vazquez, John "Jellybean" Benitez, Tony Moran, Dirty Vegas, Shep Pettibone et al.

5 out of 5 stars Mickey's the Lord of the dance..........2005-09-22

This CD is a must have for Disney fans of all ages! For true fans. This Music or most of it, is used for the preshow/atmospheric music before the nightly spectacular Fantasmic! at Disney MGM studios, in Walt Disney World. Its great to dance to and a wonderfull memory of your Walt Disney World Vacation.

5 out of 5 stars Upbeat clean songs you will let your kids listen to........1998-11-18

This C.D. takes some of Disney's best songs and makes them into an upbeat disco sound.I teach using these songs. I use them in my P.E. class for running, jumping and performing sport skills. The students can sing with them while they jump rope or run around the gym. They love to dribble the ball while listening to Number 10 (Lion King.)The first song sets the tone for the C.D. with Donna Summer singing someday.I searched high and wide for songs suitable for elementary students that are clean and free from profanity. It is hard to find these type of songs. I enjoy using this C.D. hour after hour and find myself playing the songs for my own pleasure. It makes the time go faster for the student's as well. I would recomend this C.D. for any elementary teacher, pre-school teacher or family that would like Disney songs with a beat.

4 out of 5 stars A VERY GOOD BUY FOR THOSE WHO LOVE DISNEY!.......1998-09-21

IF YOU LOVE DISNEY SONGS, AND YOU LIKE REMIXES, THIS IS THE CD FOR YOU. THE SONGS ARE UPBEAT VERSIONS OF DISNEY MOVIE FAVORITES. I LOVE THIS CD.

The song Don't Cry For Me Argentina is so beautiful, and this CD features all the Dance Remixes you've ben waiting for + the original album version!! The best of the four is the Miami Mix, the full 12" Remix is brilliant! The album version, Miami Mix Edit (the most popular mix) and the Miami Spanglish Mix Edit, are also brilliant! From the film Evita, where Madonna starrs as Eva Peron! Recommended for collectors + true die-hard Madonna fans!! If you want more remixes buy the US Maxi!

5 out of 5 stars Madonna Is Truly Sensational As Eva Peron!.......2003-07-19

When Madonna starred in the film Evita, many critics were sceptical. They were silenced, however, when they saw the movie. Many critics gushed that it was Madonna's best-ever film role and it probably was. The vocal training that the international superstar went through to look and sound the part was very demanding and Madonna pull it off. The second single to be taken from the soundtrack to the film was Don't Cry For Me Argentina. It was released in December 1996 and peaked at No.3 in the UK, becoming Madonna's biggest hit for more than four years. It spent 12 long weeks on the chart, and put Madonna firmly back on track as the biggest superstar in the world.

Don't Cry For Me Argentina starts slow and soft. The gentle plucking of guitar strings and gentle violins are very relaxing and Madonna begins to sing the first verse, "It won't be easy. You'll think it's strange. When I try to explain how I feel. That I still need your love after all that I've done. You won't believe me. All you will see is a girl you once knew although she's dressed up to the nines at sixes and sevens with you." Madonna's voice is amazing, and then she sings "I had to let it happen. I had to change. Couldn't stay all my life down that hill. Looking out of the window staying out of the sun. So I chose freedom. Running around trying everything new but nothing impressed me at all. I never expected it to." It's the end of a long verse, and then as the violins rise Madonna sings the chorus, "Don't cry for me Argentina. The truth is I never left you. All through my wild days, my mad existence. I kept my promise - don't keep your distance." A solo violin then plays, and Madonna begins her second verse as the tempo increases, "And as fortune and as for fame. I never invited them in. Though it seemed to the world they were all I desired. They are illusions. They're not the solutions they promised to be. The answer was here all the time. I love you and hope you love me." Madonna then sings "Don't cry for me Argentina," and the audience hums the tune, as they slowly begin to accept her persuasive ways. The tempo then rises and Madonna belts out the chorus once more, as she gains confidence in her portrayal as Eva Peron. The song then dies down and Madonna sings, "Have I said too much? There's nothing more I can think of to say to you. But all you have to do is look at me to know that every word is true!" The song then climaxes with trumpets, violins, pianos and much more in a grand finale.

The video to Don't Cry For Me Argentina is simply the performance that is in the film Evita. Madonna stands on a balcony in front of a big crowd below singing her song. She is very persuasive and converts the audience to love her once more by the end. It really is an iconic scene, and one Madonna should very proud of. All in all, this is definitely the best song to be taken from the soundtrack to Evita - a true modern day classic!

      5 out of 5 stars excellent collection.......2006-10-07

I am very happy they released this, especially since they put some remixes on this collection that were not on the previously released more expensive Greatest Dance Mixes collection.

It happens I already had "Stop Listen Look & Think" but I am really glad they included it for the sake of other people who were desperately searching for it. Still- the Expose' remix most people want more than any other is the unreleased Dakeyne mix of "Tell Me Why" which I beleive was put out through the DMC remix service back when the song first came out.

I got this as well as the Taylor Dayne & Cyndi Lauper dance diva remixes collections and was very happy with all of them. I also bought their recent George LaMond "Where does that leave love" collection because it has the rare "1990 Club Mix" of "Bad Of The Heart" thouugh I dont understand why the rest of that CD was filled with album versions, when they could've given him a Remix CD just like this Expose collection and I think a lot more people would've bought it. I hope they are eventually planning on releasing a full budget remix disc for him.

If Sony/BMG really wants to cash in on remix re-releases, they should also put out budget remix & rarities collections for Gloria Estefan, Lisa Lisa & Cult Jam, Lissette Melendez, Ace Of Base, Real McCoy, Snap!, Black Box, Basia, Celine Dion, The Cover Girls, Lisa Stansfield, to name a few of the ones that would really fly of store shelves.

5 out of 5 stars Better than the "Greatest Dance Mixes"..........2006-09-27

This one is titled "Dance Mixes" released in 2005 by Sony Bmg as printed on the back insert. Tracklisting is slightly different and better to my opinion than the previous release "Greatest Dance Mixes" which is more than double the price of this one. This version features two rarities that most djs are looking for, "Stop, listen, look & think" and "What you don't know".
Anyway, here is the tracklisting and timing of each song:

1- Point no return (Original Version) 6:07
2- Let me be the one (12: Version) 8:04
3- What you don't know (Bass Mix) 7:09 [First time on CD!!]
4- Come go with me (Remix 12" Version) 7:24 [Not the great original version, which gladly has been released on 2006 "80's Dance: Gold"]
5- Stop, listen, look and think (House Mix) 4:08 [Released as PROMO, very rare and very nice]
      6- I specialize in love (Remix) 7:16
      7- Tell me why (12" Version) 7:39
8- I wish the phone would ring (Extended Version) 6:21
9- When I look at him "Suave Mix" (Acoustic Version) 7:00
      10- Seasons Change (12" Version) 7:46

This is a must for any dj, fan of Expose or freestyle.

      3 out of 5 stars Greatest Mixes - a review.......2007-03-12

There are now several greatest hits and best of CD's with the Thompson Twins, this one however, is a little different than the others.

First released in 1988, it has the effort put forth with some singles that are mixes. I do really like the song "In the name of Love" on here and think it is great. The funky beat of "Love on your side" is okay as well. One of their stronger songs, "Lay your hands on me" is electric and enjoyable.

Singles "Hold me up" and the popular "Doctor Doctor" is also in the mix. For someone wanting a full range of their music however, this is perhaps not the best place to start. I still have enjoyed this album although it is missing a few other gems from their career of songs. I imagine in another couple of years they will come out with a digitally remastered one.

3 out of 5 stars Definitive Proof that The Thompson Twins were never a "Singles" Band!.......2006-04-14

First of all, the sound quality of this disc is quite poor and given what sound engineering technology that is available out there today, I'd recommend waiting until Arista gets around to doing better remastering jobs of their albums.

Secondly, there are only 10 tracks here and as the other reviewers have stated, these are not the best remixes of the tracks and so you are not getting value for money.

Thirdly, and most importantly, although the 10 tracks here quite fairly represent the band's best works, this album also quite clearly shows that TT were really more than just a singles band.

You really had to listen to the entire albums to truly appreciate their brilliance. I'm speaking about their earlier albums more so than their later efforts ie. everything up to and including "Here's To Future Days".

However, if you had to sum up the band on one album, their best work is by far "Into the Gap" which has some brilliant tracks that never made it to single status and yet represent some of their best work. "No Peace for the Wicked" is my favourite track of theirs and is quite possibly their best track after "Hold Me Now".

I'd recommending waiting for an mlps digitally remastered version of "Into The Gap" to be released if you want their best work and giving this one a miss. Let's hope it's not going to be a long wait....

2 out of 5 stars One of the biggest disappointments of my youth!.......2005-12-28

I'll never forget how excited I was when I learned that Arista was releasing a Thompson Twins remix album that compiled all their best twelve-inch singles. I'd been collecting all the vinyl for years, and now we'd have a bunch of the remixes in high-quality DIGITAL sound! Well, now we know that wasn't exactly the case.

"Greatest Mixes" had me worried from the get-go when I saw the ugly metallic cover the record company slapped on it. I noticed the odd-looking track lengths right away while listening to "In the Name of Love 88". I was already coming to terms with the fact that "ITNOL" had been remixed by none other than Shep Pettibone, of whose work I was not the biggest fan. None of the tracks seemed long enough to be the full versions. My fears were confirmed when I heard the butchered edits of my favorite twelve-inch mixes, courtesy of the late Tuta Aquino, Mr. Pettibone's former engineer. I'm not sure, but Tuta might have fallen asleep on the job with this one. Notice during "Doctor! Doctor!" when that spine-tingling three-chord progression that punctuates the song comes in on the wrong bar, crashing into you like a bike messenger who wasn't looking where he was going. "Love On Your Side" is similarly mauled, and we're left to wonder why. The runtime of the finished product was short enough that they could fit TWO bonus tracks on the CD. So why edit the twelve inch mixes in the first place? The whole purpose of the remixes in the first place is to expand the tracks to allow for extended builds and ebbs, so the intentions of Arista Records in editing these back down here remain a mystery to me.

Fortunately for whiny purists like myself, the CD bonus tracks are the unedited remixes for "The Gap" and "You Take Me Up", plus there's an otherwise unreleased 12" mix of "King For A Day" on here. That fact alone makes "Greatest Mixes" essential for collectors, although I don't know why the compilations and "remastered deluxe editions" of Thompson Twins albums that keep coming out seem to be helmed by people who have no intentions of doing right by the fan base. It's like the Human League's revenge or something.

4 out of 5 stars A good collection but not all of their best mixes.......2004-10-29

This is a good general collection of the T-Twins 12 inch mixes. For some reason, they are edited from their original form, which is annoying to those of us familiar with the longer versions. Standout tracks are "Lies", "The Gap", "Hold Me Now", "Love on Your Side" and "In the Name of Love '88". It would have been nice to see the superior remixes of "We Are Detective", "Watching" and "Sister of Mercy" on here instead of the bland mixes of "You Take Me Up", "King for A Day" and "Get That Love". But those songs were bigger hits in the US.

      5 out of 5 stars excellent.......2004-10-03

Excellent, techno pop album. You can be surprised like me, listening greatest 80s hits like Doctor Doctor, Hold me now, lay your hands on me, get that love... try it... its amazing... for sure you danced it at least lot of times...
