QUE 20 AÃ`OS NO ES NADA..........2000-10-16

De entrada, el simple hecho de tener un nuevo disco de Flans, es maravilloso; ahora, siendo objetivos, el disco no es lo que esperábamos. Flans siempre fue vanguardia en lo auditivo y en lo gráfico; cada nuevo disco era un deleite visual (checar los maravillosos conceptos gráficos de "Flans", "20 millas" y "Luz y Sombra") y auditivo, pero ahora, casi diez años después, la portada de "Hadas" nos quedó a deber y nos decepcionó que nos consideraran tan moralinos como para no entender la idea de los brassieres que, en lo personal, me parecía absolutamente genial. El sonido de "Hadas" se quedó atorado en principios de los 90 pero no entendimos si era intencional, para darle seguimiento a "Adiós", o fue simplemente que a Mildred Villafañe, esta vez, no le acabó de cuajar el concepto musical. Los arreglos suenan dispersos y sin una línea definida y el estilo general del disco no es concreto: "Hadas" parece una canción de "Alma Gemela", "Rufino" nos recuerda a "Corre, corre", y pasa más o menos lo mismo con los demás cortes de este nuevo álbum. Sin embargo las voces están mejor que nunca (atención a Ilse en "Gracias", Mimi en "Cuando tú no estés conmigo" e Ivonne en "Eclipse de Sol") y los arreglos vocales son buenísmos y magníficamente dirigidos. La imagen de Flans es muy buena (nos gustó Ilse pelona y con el pelo platino) pero no la explotaron los suficiente, ¡impongan moda otra vez!. Este es un disco que no puede faltar en ninguna colección "popera" por lo que representa. Será difícil superar "Alma Gemela" pero ya nos estamos tronando los dedos esperando el siguiente. ¡Échenle ganas!. (El web site oficial nunca lo terminaron, ¿qué pasó?).

Que se podria decir de Flans, creo que Flans no fue un grupo sino toda una institucion en la musica pop en espanol. Con exitos como "Bazar", "No controles", "Corre corre", "Me he enamorado de un fan" etc... lograron mantenerse en la cima por 5 anos, pero como todo tiene su princio y fin Flans no fue la excepcion. Ahora 9 anos despues regresan con este nuevo acetato en su carrera como grupo. "Hadas" para mucha gente es su mejor trabajo hasta la fecha, pero hay gente que como yo no piensa igual, no digo que "Hadas" este mal, pero la verdad "Alma gemela" es su mejor trabajo, a pesar de que ese album es ochentero si escuchan la musica se daran cuenta de que todavia es muy vanguardista, incluso gente podria decir que "Alma gemela" es mas nuevo que "Hadas". De este nuevo album creo que las canciones mas destacadas son "Y tu ves", "Ay!" y "Gracias"(buen cover!). Espero que para el proximo album que se empieza a grabar a finales de este mes, (agosto), se incluyan canciones mas maduras.

Flans está de nuevo en el mercado, esto es grandioso para todos los que algún día fuimos admiradores de ellas,entonces tener este CD será básico,pero tenemos que tomar en cuenta que quizas esperabamos oir algo diferente,algo más maduro o evolucionado y esto no pasó, el CD es bueno, porque mantiene su estilo antiguo de canciones fresas, pero no pensaron que la gente que antes compraban sus discos ahora crecieron y maduraron y las letras de este disco parecen quedarse en algo pasado,sus voces se oyen iguales de bien, la musica es maravillosa, pero si esperan oir letras profundas e inteligentes,no las encontrarán pues éstas chicas ahora mujeres casadas con hijos trataron de revivir un antiguo estilo y no se renovaron en nada musicalmente, aunque fisicamente estan más bellas que antes...

Si quieren escuchar un disco para recordar a las tres chicas de antes, entonces este CD les gustará,pero no esperen más...porque no lo encontrarán.

I was so excited when I found out that Flans had reunited. I bought their CD right away and was genuinely impressed with the way they were able to fit right in with "la moda". I really liked 'Rufino', a real catchy song. Their voices blend together better than ever. This album is definitely a success. Welcome back, Flans! It's good to have you again. I will hope to hear from you in the future.

Flans has been one of the most complete and best examples of Mexican Pop from 1985 to 1990. When they split up, they left a big gap for musical quality, and now they've come back with their best strength and more maturity as ever. Maybe this CD could be too corky for young audiences, but for us people who grew with them, and for anyone that loves good refreshing music, this is the best thing! "Tu ves" is the best if you're in love or longing for one, "Tu eterna pesadilla" and "Rufino" are the best examples of classic Flans' dance and fun songs, and with "Ay" they show what we could expect in a near future ... great new rythms and more mature lyrics. Hope that they continue their careers as a group for a few more years, we wanted good music again! Great buy and a good reason to learn spanish!

Ya el título y la portada hablan de un mundo de cuento, un poco naif e infantil. Esto es el encanto de Mecano. La inocencia y la belleza y la ilusión de la juventud. Quizá por eso la cohesión del trío no aguantó el paso del tiempo y se fue convirtiendo en una factoría de música cada vez más predecible. Aunque el talento de Nacho Cano es insuperable dentro del panorama español.


Trece canciones llenas de humor, juventud, inocencia, puerilidad y encanto. Un disco injustamente ignorado por el público puesto que incluye temas antológicos de Mecano, como 'Barco a Venus', posiblemente la mejor canción rápida del grupo, 'La Fiesta Nacional', una adaptación musical al pasodoble muy al estilo de Jose María, 'El Amante de Fuego', probablemente la canción más enigmática y original de Mecano, y algunas joyas nunca reconocidas como 'El Balón', ''La Bola de Cristal', y por supuesto el maravilloso arreglo instrumental del tema inicial, '¿Dónde Está el País de las Hadas?' con la particiación de Luis Cobos.

También hay temas que chirrían como 'Este Chico es una Joya' y 'El Ladrón de Discos', pero ahí precisamente está el encanto del grupo, en el que creaban con libertad, con una espontaneidad sana nunca vista en la música española.

Early Creative Genius..........2001-09-27

This is in fact Mecano's first work of art. Their first album was a great introduction from a band of young kids who wanted to have fun....this sophmore effort proves there is talent behind the image. PLEASE don't disregard this album since not many of the songs were major hits in the likes of "Ay Que Pesado" or "Cruz De Navajas" (although "Barco a Venus" was a controversial song in Spain for their tale of a drug addict. it can be found on "Ana , Jose , Nacho" , it may be familiar to some)...this is their BEST album from the CBS ( Sony ) years...Although the tone gets a bit goofy at times , the genius lies in the music. They become so creative and playful that it seems in every song , they were attempting to make something new and exciting..and THEY DID! but NOTHING is as creative on this album as the incredible "La Fiesta Nacional".....how ahead of themselves in 1983! They managed to succesfully make an electro/synth tonada (spanish folk song)!...they mix their traditional beats with pulsating drum machine beats , Its a great piece of work. Ana's voice on this album is where we first realize , the synth and her voice make an odd , but addicting and contagious mixture. Mecano IS hands down , THE best and most important group to record in the Spanish language. this is a great album , and has even the privilege of being remastered in 1998 , when BMG (bless them!) bought their recordings from CBS (Sony) and re-released their first 3 albums from that record label. ....now we can only hope they'll do the same for their first 2 albums with BMG , "Entre El Cielo Y El Suelo (1986)" and "Descanso Dominical (1988)"...no need to bother with the already perfect "Aidalai (1991)"

Sin lugar a dudas un excelente ejemplo de la magia poetica y musica inigualables de Mecano. Con exitos como Barco a Venus y La Bola de Cristal, este grupo ha logrado llegar a lo mas profundo de los corazones del mundo entero. Ciertamente este trio se ha apoderado de mi corazon y de la musica del ayer, hoy y siempre!

The Musea label continues its exploration of unknown territories. If South-America has always been a traditional favourite, as far as Progressive rock is concerned, only a few Colombian artists chose to perform this kind of music. Originating from Medellin, JAEN KIEF decided it was enough. So, in that year 2006, the band publishes its first album, called "Las Hadas No Vuelan Mas - I. Vagas Nubes" (2006). This fascinating piece of art includes lots of amazing instrumental work, with vocals parts sung in Spanish by the charming Sol Beatriz JARAMILLO. Superb musicianship and top-notch songwriting makes this album one of the brighter spots of today's Latin American symphonic music scene. Not to be missed !

Obscure Colombian prog rock.......2006-09-16

Jaen Kief is a great progressive rock band from Colombia embarking on the region's traditional sounds and blending the results with the hallmarks of progressive rock. Though this album was originally released in 2003, it has been reissued by the French label Musea earlier this year.

All the information in the booklet being in Spanish, it is hard to infer much, so this review will be entirely about the music. The band has two vocalists, one of them being a great female singer, and even though they both have their parts, the album generally follows an instrumental path to express itself. The instrumentation is varied, utilising flutes, acoustic guitars, saxophones, pianos, and all kinds of strings, along with soaring synths, electric guitars, and hammering drum and bass work. The disc contains a total of fifteen tracks, but there are actually seven songs on it. Both "Momento Gris" and "Duerme Bien" are comprised of several sub-titles, equaling over twenty-plus minutes, which is roughly half of the total running time.

"Momento Gris", divided into seven parts, begins and ends with identical guitar lines that recall late-70's Pink Floyd. Lots of acoustic guitars and wordless vocal melodies accompany the tense, somewhat cinematic instrumentation. It takes a while for the bass and drums to enter the scene, but when they do, the piece transforms into a beautiful symphonic prog element, utilising eerie sounds and ethnic percussion on "Part III" and some Latin-flavoured fretwork on "Part IV". This song also features strong male vocals atop a driving piano lead. "Part V" begins with a crazy flute jam before slowing down to pick up gently picked acoustic guitars. On "Duerme Bien", the shredding melodic guitars of "Dos Mundos" are woven into the magnificent keyboard playing of "Dama de la Noche", vaguely similar to the brilliant keyboard intro of Eternity X's The Edge.

Highlights also include the gorgeous vocal duet on "El Juego de Unas Sombras", a menacing piece marked by epic-scale arrangements and fusion-like instrumental breaks. The last song "Brujo Negro" puts forth the band members' technical prowess, bleeding into an extended bass and drum solo respectively, and merging slow acoustic guitars with heavy electric leads. The addition of rising Mellotron parts and effective church bells adds to the overall atmosphere of this record.

One thing about the booklet is amazing. There are pictures of the band members taken during their childhood with their instruments in their hands; it's really funny. Jaen Kief offers a strong mix of folk, classical and symphonic prog with Spanish lyrics and is well worth checking out.
