CD The Very Best of James Galway.......2007-01-10
This was a gift and the receipant loves it. Amazon responded to my order in above average time and I will continue to buy through their website.
Not for the serious flautist.......2006-06-10
Most of the tracks on this CD consist of saccharine fluff, such as Disney, show-tunes, etc. If I buy a flute recording, I want to hear some serious music, not this ghastly schmaltz. And I hate to say it, I'm not a huge fan of Galway's playing style. It's too light and airy, just on the edge of going into overtones. He overuses his vibrato, especially on the higher notes. When you want them to just smoothly soar with rich tone, they just sort of flutter about. He does have impeccable technique and speed, but his tone leaves a lot to be desired, in my opinion. Seek out another artist!
The Very Best of James Galway.......2005-09-23
Really is one of the best of James Galway, if not the very best. Easy listening, soothing, relaxing - easy to enjoy
Lightweight.......2005-08-24
Admirers of James Galway as a superb classical flutist, of whom I am one, should be forewarned that this 2002 release has been packaged by the mass merchandisers for the "crossover" crowd and the mass market: there's slim pickin's here for serious music lovers. The first CD contains brief, lightweight classical "hits" in "arranged" versions, basically encore bonbons, while almost the entire second CD is devoted to ephemeral, forgettable pop fluff. There's not much of substance here; given Galway's vast (over 50 recordings) discography, the classical music lover would be well advised to look elsewhere.

Throughout the 1980s, "We are the Scorpions!" was lead vocalist Klaus Meine's concert-opening battle cry, energizing and readying the faithful in sold-out stadiums for a Teutonic onslaught of vital, sometimes plodding, eardrum-splitting rock anthems. In short, the arena-rock monsters were never a picnic-under-the-stars kind of band ... until Moment of Glory. The new millennium brings the Scorpions full circle, melding in-your-face party anthems like "Rock You Like a Hurricane" (now called "Hurricane 2000") and "Big City Nights" into fully orchestrated concoctions featuring the Berlin Philharmoniker. Where the grandiose likes of "Wind of Change" and "Still Loving You" are obvious choices for such a pairing, and indeed, work well, the "Deadly Sting Suite," with almost unrecognizable instrumental versions of "He's a Woman, She's a Man" and "Dynamite," will likely catch the unknowing fan of classic Scorps off guard. Both Deep Purple and Metallica have used full orchestras to accent their songs with mixed results, and the same goes for the Scorps. There's a fine line between wine-and-cheese classical fare and whiney and cheesy metal. Here the Scorpions teeter, if often gracefully, on that line. --Katherine Turman

Customer Reviews:
Got me hooked on Scorpions.......2007-04-12
I absolutely love the marriage of rock and symphony here. It's gorgeous. The Scorpions take already amazing songs and pump them up an extra notch. A long time ago I heard "Still Loving You" on the radio, not knowing who sung it. It took me years to finally discover the Scorpions. I own two different versions of "Still Loving You," and I far prefer this one to the original. It gives me this yearning inside. The only thing I don't like about this album is the guest vocalists. I love Klaus Meine. He adds an ethereal element to the music, and with the guest vocals, it takes away from the beauty, in my opinion. But don't let that deter you from getting this, because it is so worth it. "Rock You Like a Hurricane" is amazing! It's all amazing!
Moment of Glory.......2007-04-01
With metal music it is always louder is better and this album found one of the coolest ways to make metal louder. Combining the Scorpions with a the Philharmonic creates one of the coolest sounding albums I have ever heard.
[].......2007-03-14
i dont own this album but i have heard the songs off of it and i think their all great and performed well. and also as a side note since i read alot of comments about the guest vocals on "big city nights" but no mention of who: it is Ray Wilson best known for replacing Phill Collins in Genesis and recording the classic Calling all Stations
dynamite!.......2002-10-21
Just when you think the scorpions couldn't do worst...they prove you wrong!
Even Metallica's s&m is better...close but still.
I am sure that it was a great experience to live, for the band and the audience, because that type of event is always unique and can bring strong emotions-unless you have a dumb..s sitting next to you, drinkin' beer and screaming every five minutes Dynamiiiiiiite!!-but on cd...for me it doesn't do it,but it probably is a treasure for those who were there.
Now, I'm not gonna start the debat with DEEP PURPLE and the LSO(1999) but I was there at the Royal Albert Hall and that's why I can understand the concept and the thrill of holding the recording of such concerts...but still DEEP PURPLE 's symphonic album features something that neither Scorpions or Metallica holds...and this is an ORIGINAL PIECE OF MUSIC CREATED FOR A GROUP AND A ORCHESTRA!
Truly a Moment of Glory for the Scorpions!.......2002-07-31
AWESOME is how I would sum up this CD. From the moment I first heard it, I knew I HAD to have it. Buy it! You won't be disappointed!

WELL...........2001-09-27
Well, at least the cover art here is better than "I'M IN YOU"... Good debut, solid songwriting. The seeds for FRAMPTON COMES ALIVE started here.....
Frampton's interesting and varied debut solo album.......2001-07-18
Released in 1972, this was Peter Frampton's first solo album after several years as a band member, and with the use of strings, flutes and marimba on the opening track he was perhaps making a statement that he intended to move away from the heavy blues-rock of Humble Pie. The album unfolds with an interesting mixture of R&B, acoustic guitar-based soft rock, and gentle ballads, and many of the songs have interesting arrangements and catchy melodies. In the lively version of 'Jumping Jack Flash' there is a hint of what was to come on the 1976 'Comes alive' album, although 'All I want to be', which was done as a brief solo spot on the live album here appears as a much more satisfying 6:25 long band version, with extended guitar solos. This long-awaited remastered CD reveals numerous details which were not too clear on the original vinyl LP, not least the lyrics of some songs, whilst also tending to reveal the limitations of Frampton's voice and the simplicity (by today's standards) of the production. However, this is no problem; 'Wind of change' is an enjoyable album and it certainly established the artist's distinctive style and signalled his potential for the future.
An Enduring Favorite.......2000-09-09
Since purchasing this album on vinyl 29 years ago it remains one of my all-time favorites. We all own discs that for some reason we never tire of. The music remains just as fresh and exciting as the first time we listened to it. "Wind of Change is certainly one of mine.
One of the main reasons Pete left Humble Pie in 1970 was because he thought their music was taking too much of a hard edge, heavy course. Pete proves on this disc that he could create memorable, softer tunes (eg: Lady Lieright, Hard ), yet still rock it out as he did with The Pie (eg: Plain Shame, JJF). As always his fluid, impeccable guitar work on his Les Paul is outstanding. (He was THE guitar player for the Pie)!!
If you want to hear PF at his solo career peak, I urge you to take a good listen to this disc along with Camel and Something's Happening. I'm ecstatic that these albums have finally been released on CD. The 3 of them are truly classics!! Besides, that 29 year old vinyl album has just about worn through!!
A review of Peter Frampton's Wind of Change.......2000-09-04
This is a lovely set of studio recordings with Frampton's distinctive style. Though obscured by the pupularity of FCO, this is a winner. If you missed out on it the first time around, don't miss it this time.

Customer Reviews:
One of my favorite records.......2005-04-18
I'm buying the CD now to replace my very-scratched LP. I'm no connoisseur of vocal music, but I am a big guitar fan (and player) and a Taoist, so "Big Chariot" speaks most eloquently to me... but the entire "Songs from the Chinese" set from Britten was a trememdous discovery to me the first time I heard the LP many years ago. And, as a bonus, you have those great ribald songs on it, like "To Couple is A Custom". Overall, a fabulous, unique find if your tastes run to voice+guitar+sense of humor.
the britten is okay, but the rest is much better.......2003-06-21
most people will get this cd for britten's songs from the chinese, nocturnal for solo guitar, and the folk song arrangements included here, but these works are not among his best. the nocturnal is a little too verbose, and the arrangements of the folk songs aren't particularly distinctive. the chinese cycle is worthwhile, although certainly not up to the caliber of winter words or the michelangelo sonnets cycle. still, all three have moments worth hearing, particularly among the slower sections. examples include "the autumn wind" in the songs from the chinese and the first movement, "musingly", of the nocturnal.
along with these works by britten, the disc also includes other songs for guitar and voice and these are what make the disc worth getting. bream is ideal and masterful. i believe this is one of pears' later recordings, and he gets a little too carried away at times (for example, at the end of "i gave her cakes"), but he really shines in the pensive, lyrical songs of each cycle presented here, recalling his role as peter grimes. of particular note are his performance in seiber's french folk song arrangements, the first half of the walton cycle, the second lute song from britten's gloriana, and the fricker setting of shakespeare.
the sound has a few spots of static where the vocal was too loud, but they may have been present on the original recording. the liner notes don't include any of the texts, which is a pity, nor is the nocturnal divided into 8 tracks for its 8 movements. still, all in all, worth having if you're a pears or bream fan, and if you're a fan of britten you probably have this disc already.

absolutely magnificent.......2003-12-17
This CD is a collection of songs from all over the world! What I am going to say is that it even contains a Chinese song which is originated from one of the four famous ancient novels in China--Dream of the Red Mansion. Amazingly,Jose Carreras pronouces those Chinese characters very well.
It's an awesome CD for JC fans AROUND THE WORLD~~
Carreras at his best!.......2001-10-16
The golden voice still got its old magic. A marvellous collection of songs that suit that world-famous tenor voice like tailored up for it. José Carreras sings these popular classics with the velvet sound he is so famous for. I'm sure this album will win the maestro a lot of new fans!
Wonderful!!.......2001-10-09
This CD is wonderful. I think it's his best recording in several years. Carreras' facility with so many languages is remarkable and this album showcases that ability in every way. There's no opera, but a variety of pieces sung with the passion and nuances we've come to expect from him. All of it is in the voice range in which he still has the beautiful timbre and tone that have kept him so successful for so many years. When you listen to Wind of Change, one realizes that he probably could have been a "pop" star if he'd gone that direction instead of opera.
Absoltuely Stunning!.......2001-10-04
In Jose's so called "Autumn" of his carreer he has never failed to amaze me. Around The World features several different types of songs that convey Jose's fondness of the world in which we all live. This is evident in songs like "Wind Of Change" featuring a duet with Klaus Meine (from The Scorpions), "Kawa No Nagare No Yoni" from Japan, "Vurria" from Italy, & "Hine E Hine" from New Zealand. You are not going to hear Jose belt out high c's on this one. What you are going to hear is Jose sing, with his golden velvet voice, evergreens of love and passion. In my opinion Jose sounds every bit as fresh and in command with his voice as he did in the late 80's and early 90's. This is a must for all who love Jose and enjoy great singing from the soul.
