About the Artist
Larissa recently completed her third album, "Revolutionary," a collection of material showcasing her signature vocals and evocative songwriting. Numerous music industry insiders have been eager to work with Larissa and contribute to her growing success. This collaboration with producer/arranger Derek Nakamoto (Boyz II Men, Hiroshima) and mixing engineer Craig Burbidge (Brian McKnight) includes a lineup of top musicians such as Michael Bland (Prince, Chaka Khan), Denny Fongheiser (Seal, Tracy Chapman), Annas Allaf (Jessica Simpson, Will Smith) and Bruce Watson (Christina Aguilera). "Revolutionary" explores a variety of universal themes, including the need for change, shifting priorities, and personal identity.

In 2001, Larissa released her first solo album "On the Way Up," produced by Jarrett Michaels (Brandy, George Clinton) followed by a live album "Thankful to be Live." Her reputation as a hardworking and talented artist has led to recorded studio sessions for clients like Nickelodeon and Disney. Additionally, Larissa has provided music for films, TV and commercials, and she currently hosts a new youth-oriented TV show, "Top 3" on cable network JCTV.

A Los Angeles native, Larissa’s relationship with music began at age five when she started playing the piano. By age 13, she had written her first song and was singing at local community events. At UCLA, Lam majored in business economics and worked in the areas of publishing, music licensing, marketing and distribution for companies like Polygram and Columbia Records.

Soon after, she became the Chief Financial Officer for indie label NSOUL Records. One day, a gospel/dance group at the label, Nitro Praise, was about to go on tour and was missing a singer. Larissa stepped in to fill the spot and never looked back. As a member of Nitro Praise, she recorded on three albums and toured nationally for three years. Currently, the Nitro Praise series (brainchild of veteran DJ/remixer Scott Blackwell) has sold more than 400,000 copies worldwide.

Why are you waiting?.......2006-12-16

Ashkenazy is one of the titans of Chopin. Davidovich and Arrau are the other two. They're all you need. Get Davidovich for the concertos, (inlcuding the Krakowiak--Op 14), Arrau for the nocturnes and a few micscellaneous pieces. Ashkenazy handles everything else.

(Btw, Ashkenazy vs. Davidovich re. the impromptus is a toss up. But since the impromptus aren't on this disc, you can make that critical decision another time.)

Ashkenazy's scherzo #2 (op. 31) IS the best. Period. Other interpretations that your favorite classical music station may substitute are downright lame.

The rest are basically sublime. The first and 4th ballades will send shivers up your spine by Vlad's sheer technical ability. His artistry is second to none.

An excellent complilation of Chopin works which includes 3 of the pieces I am currently learning. Definitely has encouraged me to improve my piano skills and allow me to better appreciate his style of music.

Beautifully done 2 CD of Chopin works. I've played it every weekend since I got it, loving every track. It's well performed and recorded, and is an excellent collection for anyone interested in Chopin or his adopted homeland of Poland. And, of course, you can't often go wrong with the London Label.

chopins Mazurkas.......2005-08-08

this is a wonderful collection of the mazurkas but Ashkenazy plays a lot of them too fast my music teacher played these with more pathos he seems like he cant get done fast enough with some of them some introductions should be slower with more feeling otherwise all the mazurkas i wanted are in this disc just wish i had got better artist like Claude Arrau

REST FOR THIS WEARY SOUL.......2005-03-09

On vinyl I owned Ashkenazy's complete recordings of Chopin's piano works. Prior to purchasing this CD of what I call "highlights from Vladimir's Chopin Recordings", I had not replaced them in this format. What a joy it is to hear Vladimir Ashkenazy play these works again. I'm reminded of how much I loved his playing of Chopin on vinyl looking forward to each "new release" with great anticipation. Being, what is referred to, as a "senior citizen" , Chopin's music means ever so much to me offering rest for this weary soul. Vladimir Ashkenazy's performances on these discs are first rate and ones I truly love. As a previous reviewer pointed out, this compellation is a bargain-great price, great music, great sound and great performances by a master of Chopin's music.

If you love Chopin, as I do, buy this recording it will sooth your soul as only great music can.

I bought this CD to use in my classroom as listening examples. I'm not just a super big fan of some of the performances, but they are all good and for the price you can't beat it. That's why I gave it 5 stars. It's worth more than it costs by far.

This is a who's-who of great pieces of music you have heard all of your life, and never knew the names and stories! I listened to it over and over in the car and had my own concert! A friend borrowed it to add music to his Home Movies and it was perfect!

Good Music at a Great Price.......2004-03-06

I bought this CD mostly for "Entry of the Gladiators," which everyone will recognize as classic circus music. The performance on this CD (by Erich Kunzel and the Cincinnati Pops) is the best available version of Entry of the Gladiators. The rest of the CD offers mostly excerpts of classical music.

This CD is at the top of them all. They may be short, but not that short. Wondrous music.

Well worth the price!

Good for the novice.......2002-06-08

The recordings on this disc are pretty good. However, the editors selected only the *loud* parts, as indicated by the title. I was pretty disappointed to find that the pieces are, in many cases, edited to reflect the most famous themes, etc, instead of including the whole work. In general, I would recommend this to the classical music novice, or someone who wants to expand their knowledge of classical music in general. Those who already are familiar with these pieces will probably feel gypped.

Like KRSONE Meets Chuck D with a Better Reading List.......2007-07-31

Musically, this is a strong rap album. Lyrically, it's amazing. Immortal Technique is easily the best informed rapper I've heard. Politically concious songs combine good lyrics and a strong grasp of what makes US society tick, as well as memorable music and creative word use to produce what is one of my all time favorite rap albums. Extra bonus: self produced and distributed - so he's not beholden to Megacorp LLC. He's obviously read Chomsky - institutional analysis/criticism in plain words.

If you're bothered by vulgar/violent lyrics, this may not be the choice for you. Since I'm not, it got five stars.

Intelligent Rap.......2007-07-21

Immortal Technique is the best rapper I've heard in years. It's almost like Rage Against the Machine on hip hop beats. He is intelligent, entertaining, humorous, and meaningful at the same time. There isn't a single track on the CD that I don't absolutely love.

this is the best hip hop album out there, if you like hardcore hip hop then, this is for you. While most well-known artists talk about they being kings, having a lot of girls, tons of money, tech talks about real stuff, real issues that are going on in the world. he is probably the smartest underground MC. we probaly wont ever listen to him on the radio, because of his socialist believes. That means only one thing, THERE IS NO FREEDOM OF SPEECH, tech's anti-imperialist attitude, anti-capitalism, leftsist ideals, almost pro-castro reveals the guy who worries about the dangers of imperialsm. if you are not happy with the way the government treats you, then this cs is for you. buy it, it's totally worth it.

Waxing Deep Records is pleased to announce the first ever compilation of Cuban funk: Si, Para Usted: The Funky Beats of Revolutionary Cuba, Volume One. An unprecedented combination of socialism and artistic freedom flourished during the mid-years of Castro's Cuba, enabling musicians to create an innovative body of music based on traditional styles like those made famous by the Buena Vista Social Club. Si, Para Usted captures the spirit of this time. The music ranges from son, beat, jazz, and funk, and abounds with psychedelic influences, electronic experimentation, and a heavy dose of soul. Communist funk may seem unlikely, but here it is. Si, Para Usted was lovingly compiled by Dan Zacks of Waxing Deep Radio in response to massive listener demand for the Cuban music played on the show. Outside of the Waxing Deep archive, the bulk of funky Cuban music is virtually unobtainable. Cuban recordings were never widely distributed and few have been reissued. Utterly committed to sharing good music, Dan took it upon himself to make these fantastic tracks more widely accessible. Almost all of the tracks were re-mastered from the original tapes kept by the Cuban government in a dusty Havana warehouse. Given the poor quality of Cuban vinyl, this means the music on Si, Para Usted has a quality of sound previously unavailable. Quite simply, the music has never sounded this good.

Another Fantastic Album!.......2007-07-21

Just as good as the first, if not better. Maybe a bit more mainstream, with more hooks on the tracks--but still far, far away & above anything else you hear on any rap station. You can now get your jam on without feeling as if the music is killing your brain cells.

Do Sweat The Technique.......2007-07-01

I heard about Immortal Technique through some friends and decided to pick up this album. Im pleasantly surprised. Immortal Technique not only has a killer flow but he's quite conscious of things that most zombies would pass off as lunacy. The albums kicks off with a great track Point Of No Return. Then then next track Peruvian Cocaine breaks down like a well acted out play. If you think he only has two or three songs of substance on this album guess again. Harlem Streets, 4th Branch, Internal Bleeding, The Cause Of Death, Leaving The Past are all tight tracks that prove otherwise. Immortal Technique keeps it true to the hip hop side of him with the humorous Obnoxious, which is his f*** all ya'll style track, Industrial Revolution and Crossing The Boundary. I'm still laughing at that track Freedom Of Speech. Even though its a deep cut, the funny part is the sampling of Pinochio and his sarcasm on the song. Immortal Technique teams up with Jean Grae on the deepest song on the album, You Never Know. On this song Immortal Technique tells a very vivid story of a girl he once loved who dies of aids. The album ends with the One Remix with Akir. The only track that is not a song is The Message & The Money. Its basically him telling other up and coming underground MCs that they need to know the ins and outs of the industry. Not bad but its not a song. Bottom Line: Immortal Technique's Revolutionary Vol. 2 is a must have for any fan of political hip hop. His lyrics were as truthful as they were phenomenal, the production was great and the guest appearances were a nice touch. All in all it was a beautifully put together album. 5 stars!

Soviet Army Band & Chorus aren't taking any prisoners!.......2007-05-12

If you enjoy a good stiring martial male chorus then spend some time with these guys. They're all graduates of Soviet musical acadamies and any one of them could have graced the top opera houses of the world. You don't have to know any Russian to appreciate this CD. The songs are glorious (just don't translate them -- machine guns, death to foes, etc.), and will make you want to march on Berlin all over again.

I had heard a few songs by the Red Army Choir in the past and happened upon this CD set a while back, I found it to be far better than I had hoped and would reccoment it to anyone who enjoys Russian folk music, choir in general, and cultural items from when Russia was still the Soviet Union.

I'm so glad I stumbled onto this.

Spirited, committed, manly singing. Soul-shaking stuff! The ensemble is incisive; soloists are marvelous. The folk melodies are enchanting. The songs--and the singers--are bound up in the cultural fabric of the Cossacks, Tchaikovsky, Prokofiev, Tolstoy, Dostoevsky...on and on.., Chekhov, Trotsky, Nabakov... This music conveys the great romantic, dignified, boistrous soul of the Russian People. (Loosely speaking. Some members of the chorus were presumably of other nationalities once part of the Soviet Union. And some of the songs are not Russian).

I don't speak Russian, but listening to this makes me wish I did. What a beautiful-sounding language it is.

Even though I cannot speak Russian, the quality of this choral group is beyond excellent. Many of these pieces are extremely moving and stirring. The rendering of the Soviet anthem and the song "Let's Go" (V'put) come to my mind. "Let's Go" became a huge hit in Russia when it was featured in a movie about the Great Patriotic War, and indeed, hearing it - you can well imagine ranks upon ranks of hard-eyed, grim-faced Soviet soldiers striding into battle against the Wehrmacht.

When I think of the piano, the first composer that comes to my mind is Chopin. Chopin was a composer who excelled in small form writing for the piano. He wrote beautiful melodies with complex accompaniment that was both challenging for the performer and enlightening for the listener. Chopin did not write many multi-movement pieces and what he did write is generally not as good as his solo piano pieces anyway (this is my opinion, not a fact).
When buying recordings of Chopin's music, there are basically two options. You can either go with a "Greatest Hits" type collection, which works very well with Chopin, or you can buy collections that assemble all he wrote for a certain form (preludes, nocturnes, etudes, etc...). If you are new to Chopin, I suggest buying a "Greatest Hits" collection, though not necessarily this one, even though this is the CD in my car right now. The playing is okay but it's nothing really that special. Considering all the masterful Chopin interpreters out there, such as Rubinstein, Ashkenazy, Argerich, Pollini, and Perahia, it seems silly not to start with a pianist that you really love, since almost every great pianist has recorded works by Chopin. Having said that, this collection contains almost all my favorite works by Chopin, my only complaint being I wish it had more than one nocturne. Thus it serves as a good introduction to Chopin's music. I would recommend the Favorite Chopin collection by Ashkenazy over this collection because not only is he an amazing pianist and a masterful interpreter of Chopin, but it's two discs for the price of one.

Good, not Great.......2002-03-02

Revolutionary Etude and many other performers are good. However, Fanastie Impromptu I've heard performed much better. Raindrop Prelude is played okay, but the song is so low in volume that I can hardly hear it. Good deal though.

Not a good version of Les Sylphides (#17); which is only a 5 minute excerpt. Any other Les Sylphides pieces are sprinkled throughout the CD as piano.

This is my favorite classical CD since it is geared to a wide audience. Many of my friends and acquaintances enjoy it, too.

Good for the price............2005-11-30

I listen to this CD while reading or when I need inspiration to play the piano. There are many classic pieces here that will have many recognizable sections to the non classical music fans. The sound quality is not amazing but the essence and technical difficulty of these pieces can still be heard. Most of the songs are under 5 mins and there is a mix of faster and slower tempos.

This is a bargain bin CD that you usually see at Fry's Electronics. There are more detailed and comprehensive collections out there but for 5 bucks this isn't bad and you basically get what you expect. There are much better classical CD's out there of course but for a beginner compilation album, this one has a great price.

Wonderful relaxing and soothing music.......2005-09-02

The Sound Quality Really Bugs Me.......2004-08-26

This is a good intro CD to famous piano pieces. However, the sound quality is really *poor*. Of course, what do you expect for the price? I'm sure there are better Piano Sample CDs out there that sound much better. It's worth the extra money, trust me.

Good Disc for the Price.......2004-01-19

A good compilation of excerpts from the rich and vast piano repertoire. Sure they are merely excerpts and are meant to just introduce the piano to someone unfamiliar with the instrument or classical music, but that doesn't mean that an experienced person can't just pop it into the CD player and enjoy.

While there's no classic recordings here or big names, most of the tracks are well played and acceptable in sound quality. There are some interesting pieces here that are unfamiliar to most, such as the Dvorak Humoresque or the Paderewski Minuet, as well as classics such as the Debussy Clair de Lune or the Mozart Concerto.

The rendition of the Rhapsody in Blue is a nice performance with a well done ending that may even be better than some other CD's made by big named pianists.

Yep, this is Dead Prez's famously long-delayed album, finally surfacing after a string of label deals gone wonky, but no amount of red tape could've stopped the Red, Black, and Green movement--colors of the African Liberation flag--that is tirelessly championed here. Equal part activists and MCs, Stic and M1 continue their unwavering quest to rally the oppressed for a full-scale war against the State, as evidenced early on in "Walk Like a Warrior." When guest Krayzie Bone starts his triple-time rhyming against societal oppression--now that's beyond gangsta. DP slyly churn out their Pan-Africanist agenda throughout these 12 tracks, but it's actually their more focused tirades that win out: on "W-4" they rail against unjust worker conditions and wages, and on "Radio Freq" they implore folks to "turn off the radio" to protest the monotony that plagues commercial urban radio. There are a few less, er, diplomatic tracks that might not win over new fans who don't share their interest in radical activist dogma; on the other hand, a track like "Hell Yeah (Pimp the System)"--with its get-money-quick schemes (performing stick-ups or skimming cash from the register at work) and a remix featuring Jay-Z--might expand the audience. Although not as sonically fluid as their Let's Get Free debut, RBG's great in-house beats still magically match the intensity of their rhymes. I'm pretty picky when it comes to hip hop, but this group got me not only because they actually have a message that deviates from gangs, guns and girls.... but their music is as catchy as it comes.

Good CD and has lots of Entertainment.......2005-09-02

This CD will surprise people who liked or bought Dead Prez first album.This one has some songs that you can dance to and get a little jiggy with while also listening to them get mad at the system and promote there beliefs.There not really against Bush persee they are really against all forms of government.Even if you don't really support there politics you got to give them there props for spreading there ideas wisely and get you to move your butt at the same time.

Once "Let's Get Free" came out, it lauched a revolutionary group that was powerful in their lyrics and made you feel their whole message. After damn near burning another whole in this disk, I picked up their mixtape. It was alright but I was waiting for that 2nd full length album continuing from the debut album. I bought this on the 1st day it was released and was highly disappointed. Most of the beats sound the same. The album length is entirely TOO short. I would have given this 3 stars because the album content is not awful. But Dead Prez loses a lot of credibility when on the SAME ALBUM you say "turn off the radio" and 5 tracks later you collaberate on a song with Mr. Radio himself, Jay-Z. That loses a star right there. Was this an attempt to appeal to the very radio stations that you constantly blast for not playing real hip-hop? Well, I live in the major city of Philadelphia and I haven't heard about this song burning up the airwaves nor did I hear about it topping the Billboard music charts. Great job, guys!
