Happy Music.......2001-07-21

I borrowed this CD from a friend and I can't stop listening to it! From the 1st note I heard in "That Ole Devil Called Love" I was sold. The cutest song is "My Sweet Hunk O'Trash" with Louis Armstrong- I smile everytime I hear it. This CD is wonderful to listen to while working on the computer or driving. I find it impossible to be in a foul mood while it's on. A great song for the jilted woman is "Baby, I Don't Cry Over You." Just "Happy Music" is all I can say, even though many of the songs are about deeper issues. The music reminds me of old "Tom & Jerry" cartoons, or "Northern Exposure" background music from "The Brick" or something KBEHR would have playing. I am definitely going to purchase more of her works :-)

Return To The Valley Of The Lounge.......2000-07-03

It may be a reflection on the weakness of most contemporary music, but the easy listening bandwagon rolls on. And on. And on.

Strictly speaking, of course, this isn't really nostalgia, it's a new generation discovering that their grandparents were actually pretty cool after all.

If you already have (either volume of)"Music To Watch Girls By" then you'll know what I'm talking about. If you don't, then either you're a deeply fulfilled and satisfied Korn fan, or you need to learn to chill out with some of the coolest music known to man. And "That Ole Devil Called Love" is a mighty fine place to start.

It's a smooth, fun and catchy collection of 43 (almost exclusively) excellent tracks from some of the heppest cats around, and Johnny Mathis.

Just look at the tracklist! Almost every song is a 100% 24 carat classic! Tellingly, the only two songs I skip over are both from the modern era: Michael Bolton's execrable "Love Changes Everything" and Liz Carling's equally unnecessary cover (taken from the soundtrack of a UK sitcom) of "As Time Goes By".

The whole Lounge thing is decidedly more mainstream in the UK than it is here in the US. MTWGB, Dean Martin and Andy Williams have all had their time at the top of the UK charts. And in recent years, Tony Bennett and Matt Monroe have both headlined that country's pre-eminent Glastonbury Festival.

So if you want to find out what all the fuss is about, if you're beginning to suspect that there must be more to life than Limp Bizkit and all those other mis-spelled foodstuffs, then this collection is for you.

Highly recommended.
