Editorial Reviews

From the Artist
HEADQUARTERS musical operation shares allegiance to 6T's mod and psychedelia, with a top secret plan to filter in their own contemporary vision. Their sound profile references the effortless musicianship of Lennon/ McCartney, the ultra-style of the Who circa '66, the wit and Pop Art of Blondie, and a new melodic sensibility that is converting audiences in nightclubs everywhere. ATTENTION: This band will not self destruct in five seconds.

5 out of 5 stars Very soigné.......2001-05-21

Headquarters seems to have this rather unique gift of genious that makes you say that everything they do is outstanding (Movie, website, CD). In this perspective their CD-soundtrack has got that specific blend of sound from the '60's that you'd expect, plus with that subtle twist to make it sound very actual. They know what they're talking about, and know their classics in order to brew their own "soigné" sound that fits the Mod scene as a tonic suit. I just can't wait to hear more music from them or to see them live.

5 out of 5 stars Great Sound!.......2001-04-10

As a fan of independent music, I really enjoyed this CD. I've seen this band live once, and was impressed with both the sound and the look. The songs are tight, fun, and, well... cool!

The show I went to was packed, so they must be doing something right... hopefully they'll get signed soon and get bigger distribution...

5 out of 5 stars Let them WALK CAKE and LOVE IT!.......2001-03-23

HEADQUARTERS has done it again. Silky non-subtleties recall classic Creation and Radiohead in ambition and tunefulness. HEADQUARTERS sometimes seem confused whether they should be mod traditionalists, just a bunch of cool lookers hanging out having a good time or a great band. In the studio, they're able to be serious and fun. Part of the difference is that HEADQUARTERS' musical genius, Charles can artfully layer the sound on record while live he is overworked replicating his musical and lyrical lines. The songwriting continues to grow. Charles' character is often maturing beyond his youthful ways and being forced to deal with life and disappointment. The very sharp Binoculars particularly addresses this theme. In general, the tone is upbeat and HEADQUARTERS is smart enough not to let things drag too much. Jamming songs are mixed with groovers. The stark, super Groove On Tight is followed by the hoppy and infectious Candy Needs. The lyrics are osmosive but they, along with the music, also speak of a refusal to wallow. The title track introduces a twisted story but gives it a light springy musical setting and a happy ending. The musical landscapes are consistently interesting. Metamorphisun has an undeniable groove with its harmones and suddenly shifting tone. Charles often softens the edge with with his poignant guitar sharps. Rising dissonance in Cakewalk: Theme for American Mod illustrates Charles' internal turmoil as he tries to overcome his trying relationship. Cakewalk is interesting and listenable. The band shows love for their rock forefathers and still sounds like a great 2001 band.
