At the time of its release, this was the watershed for soundtracks, selling a kazillion copies. It documents Whitney Houston's character in the Kevin Costner movie, which required Houston to play only herself (although one hopes she wouldn't end up with someone as smarmy as Costner). The album is as much a testament to the production of Babyface who, through the mid-1990s, actually was the mainstream of contemporary hit music. Houston's singing is much better than her acting, and almost every song enjoyed a long tenure at the top of all the charts. Only Good For The Whitney Songs!!.......2006-07-09

The only reason I purchased this soundtrack back in 1992 was because I was a big Whitney Houston fan. It is worth the purchasee for her tracks that are on here. This is the biggest selling soundtrack ever! It is certified 17 platinum in the US alone and spent 20 weeks at Number #1. It also gave Whitney her biggest hit ever!

Other highlights on this album are Queen Of The Night and Jesus Loves Me. As for the other tracks, they are not so good. Oddly Run To You missed the Top 10. It is my favorite track on the album. Make sure you pick up a copy of this soundtrack. Even though it's just for the Whitney tracks,it will be worth the purchase.

Whatever you may think of her today, Whitney's vocal ability on this CD is amazing and would be difficult to imitate by female singers on the radio today. For those who call it anything other than beautiful, where were you and your sordid opinions when the song "I Will Always Love You" first hit the airwaves? Originally recorded by Dolly Parton, Miss Houston's interpretation and impeccable performance of "I Will Always Love You" catapulted her into super stardom. Videos also turned her into an international icon of celebrated proportions as The Body Guard Soundtrack continued to climb the charts, set new records and earn numerous awards. In my opinion, Miss Houston need not prove herself any longer. For even without uttering another note, Whitney will go down in history as one of the greatest voices of all time.

Total Crap, but it made Nick Lowe a millionaire.......2005-12-17

This album is a monstrous piece of watery cow poo. So why do I give it 5 stars? Because the royalties from it made Nick Lowe, the writer of What's So Funny 'bout Peace Love and Understanding, a millionaire. Granted, the cover of that song on this album is worse than Kevin Costner's acting, but who cares? The fact that Nick Lowe, who might be the wittiest songwriter of the past 25 years, got rich from this crap is a textbook example of irony. Now stop looking at the Bodyguard soundtrack, and go buy some whatever Nick Lowe albums are still in print.

OMG, I love this CD. I love the movie which grossed over $400 million world wide. I still listen to this CD. I have the movie on dvd, the cd and the record. I love Whitney Houston Brown. I grew up listening to her. I was 13 when the Bodyguard hit the scene and I was taken with it. The tracks that Whitney laid were sick. The licks and turns and flows she put on I Will Always Love You were just classic. She ripped that song to shreds and didn't apologize for it. This album continued to define the majesty of the voice of Mrs. Whitney Houston Brown. The way she can make you feel the emotion when she sings is unmatched by any other in our time. Much love for Mrs. Whitney Houston Brown and for the Bodyguard. LOVED IT.

Not for the serious flautist.......2006-06-10

Most of the tracks on this CD consist of saccharine fluff, such as Disney, show-tunes, etc. If I buy a flute recording, I want to hear some serious music, not this ghastly schmaltz. And I hate to say it, I'm not a huge fan of Galway's playing style. It's too light and airy, just on the edge of going into overtones. He overuses his vibrato, especially on the higher notes. When you want them to just smoothly soar with rich tone, they just sort of flutter about. He does have impeccable technique and speed, but his tone leaves a lot to be desired, in my opinion. Seek out another artist!

Admirers of James Galway as a superb classical flutist, of whom I am one, should be forewarned that this 2002 release has been packaged by the mass merchandisers for the "crossover" crowd and the mass market: there's slim pickin's here for serious music lovers. The first CD contains brief, lightweight classical "hits" in "arranged" versions, basically encore bonbons, while almost the entire second CD is devoted to ephemeral, forgettable pop fluff. There's not much of substance here; given Galway's vast (over 50 recordings) discography, the classical music lover would be well advised to look elsewhere.

Pretty good musical mix.......2006-03-10

Lots of great and clear vocals. I was looking for a musical mix and this has a nice sampling of many major songs but also some more recent stuff. I haven't purchased an import before but I would do it again if the opportunity presented itself. It is somewhat annoying to have three cds when I think it could have fit onto two. Still, more than I have complaints, I have compliments about it.

For Quiet Riot fans only.......2005-01-30

This album does not demand a lengthy review. "Guilty Pleasures" is the most recent studio album by Quiet Riot. It was released on a small label, Bodyguard Records, that has since gone out of business.

This album contained the 'Metal Health' lineup that had also recorded the previous album, 'Alive and Well' in 1999. The songs here, and the album as a whole, can be considered an improvement on 'Alive and Well.'

The best songs here include 'Rock the house', 'Feed the machine' and 'Vicious Circle.' 'Street Fighter' is also a good song, that one sounds like it came off the band's 1984 album 'Condition Critical.' The intro on 'Rock the house' reminds me of Twisted Sister, slightly.

Other notable songs include two ballads. The titles are: 'I can't make you love me' and 'Let me be the one.' These songs are above average, but actually sound like the same song but with different lyrics.

In my opinion, 'Blast from the past' was a forgettable song and the title track, 'Guilty Pleasures' was weak.

The remaining songs are all at least above average or "good."

Finally, 'Fly too high' closes off the album. It sounds exactly like an acoustic version of the band's classic song 'Metal Health (Bang your head)', but with different lyrics. It has the same melody and vibe, just much slower, and it is acoustic.

The good songs on the disc are strong and will please Quiet Riot fans. Material from this album fits right into their set list. There are a few albums from Quiet Riot's back catalog that I would consider to be stronger than this one ('Metal Health', 'Condition Critical', 'Terrified', 'The Randy Rhoads Years' and 'Down to the Bone'). However, this one will not disappoint someone who is a fan of the band, such as myself. It does sound like more traditional Quiet Riot than some of their other releases ('QR' with Paul Shortino or 'QRIII'). It is a good return to form and the band achieved what they set out to do: recreate a rock record sounding like their 80's heyday.

What can be said about Quiet Riot beyond "Condition Critical" and "Metal Health"? How many prognosticated that with the flatulence of scrap metal grunge that this vociferous high-energy quartet would disappear, yet this did not occur - that riot may have gotten a little quieter, but that is only as far as "popularity" is concerned - yet that is not because the band has been diminished in its Heavy Metal content, but only because record executives lured the herd away from the genre that they may instead chew on some grungy cud, yet Heavy Metal remains its own entity, despite how many sheeple may be listening. It you determine you have discovered something that works for you, edifies you, grants indulgence, stay with it. As a matter of fact, it is indeed stratification to observe who remains standing after the next wave of trendiness comes along - it is more or less cleaning house, disinfecting the poseurs from the midst of what carries value and quality, as opposed to mere disposable consumerism and valueless quantity.

And so is the case with Quiet Riot, who, through this release, continue to propitiate that hard-edged head-banging, hand-stomping, feet-clapping fun without placation.

I was not sure what to expect when I slipped the CD into the Infernal Machine - would the music preserve or betray its integrity? Thankfully, the sound herein retains its heaviness - I immediately recognized it as genuinely Quiet Riot's, and not some watered-down mutation of its former self - I recognized the harmonious strains and the feral DuBrow vox. It is a compliment to the band that they have remained true to themselves amidst the morass of pop-faddists. Now, you will want to insert this CD into the Infernal Machine because, lo and behold, a surprise awaits you on the desktop - an .avi file featuring an audial documentary on the making of Guilty Pleasures. featuring members of the band elaborating on some of the lyrics, band history, musical compositions and inspirations, some private life relations, all explained in that characteristic effervescent manner.

The visuals are pleasing as well - the group, which remains solid as Kevin DuBrow, Rudy Sarzo, Carlos Cavazo, and Frankie Banali incite the Quiet Riot in full. They actually look like a Rock/Heavy Metal band, which alludes that this is who the band really is, on and off stage, musicians who play from the metal heart and truly live it. The cover image depicts a scene from the Adam and Eve mythos, partaking of the Forbidden Fruit which represents carnal knowledge, rendered by none other than a favorite Artiste Albrecht Durer, with the addition of the Metal Madness mask obfuscating the genitalia of the nude figures, which was an amusing touch indeed.

Another mentionable bit of commentary is that among the generally self-destructive or death & misery-obsessed plethora connected to this genre, QR is actually quite life-affirming with decipherable lyrics speaking of earthly indulgence, love and lust, living life to the fullest - overall fun, which, since its inception, has been what QR is all about. Guilty Pleasures is certainly a worthy addition to your Heavy Metal collection - the condition is still critical, so play it loud for your metal health.

I took a chance and scored BIG!.......2004-06-16

I took a chance and bought this CD really cheap from a seller here on Amazon without hearing any of it or knowing much about the album. Well, when it arrived and I put it in, I was ROCKED! This release is very impressive. The boys really did a good job on this one. Loud and badass just like Quiet Riot should be. I highly recommend it to both Quiet Riot fans and hard rock fans.

Quiet Riot still has it after all these years!.......2004-04-22

I just got this cd today, I can't beleive i waited this long to get it. This CD kick ass period!I have been a QR fan since 83 got my first Metal Health record when I was 9. Let me tell you Kevin DuBrow still has it, better than ever! I have bought a lot of CD's this year and this one is one of the best by far! Any true QR fan will love this CD. It sure sucks that they broke up late last year. It really bummed me out. Maybe they will get back together again and make a new CD!

The Best QR Album Since Metal Health.......2004-03-02

Very few hard rock bands can say they sound the same in the 21st century as they did when they started, but Quiet Riot is one band that certainly can. (It' too bad they have always been rather under-rated.) This is the best Quiet Riot album since 1983's Metal Health, and is a must-have for any hard rock fan. The first three songs alone make the entire album worth buying, especially "Rock The House."
In fact, not only is this one of the best QR albums ever, but it's the best of all rock albums so far this decade. It's a shame that this band recently called it quits, because a good follow up to this album could have made them rock band of the decade.

This is a very unusual cd, buy it and you will see why.............2000-09-20

This cd is a little different from most. Let me explain! This cd has a great mixture of several types of music. This cd features popular, classical, sacred, and wedding music. What a treat it is to have all these beautuful songs together on one cd.

The main concern I have for this cd is the fact that some of the arrangements were not up to par. As you will see, all songs are not ideal for harp arrangements. I liked about half of the songs performed on this cd. I feel like the song selection could have been a little bit better. If that had happened, I think this would have been an outstanding cd.
