I really like this Cd, it's a classic, with the title track to be one of those that will live forever. I think Stereo MC's are also worth checking out for some of their other, underrated work.

5 out of 5 stars Fans can never be objective..........2006-04-21

From the OBJECTIVE reviewer...the perfect melting pot of rap and funk. It's impossible to skip over even one track on this CD.

3 out of 5 stars A little unimaginative... but better than I expected........2006-02-23

Bought this CD for one track (connected)... a little early 90s nostalgia.

Not exactly one of my all time favorites, but a good CD for cleaning the house...

3 out of 5 stars Good Driving Music.......2005-09-23

I must say the only reason why I initially bought this album was because of the nostalgia of "Connected" and "Step It Up". After listening to the album though, I was pleased to discover a few gems like "Ground Level", "Playing With Fire" and "Pressure". But unfortunately those are the only songs that really stick out. The rest is just background lounge music. That said, this is still a decent album to listen to - especially on a long drive. I would have given this 2 stars out of 5, but I had to give it an extra star solely on the basis that this it is undeniably quite a creative and original record.

4 out of 5 stars Amazing!.......2005-07-26

I love the Stereo MC's because they provide me with what I feel is missing from most other Hip Hop & Hip Hop influenced Pop and that's good musical production, a variety of sounds and instruments, vocals & lyrics that don't rely on blatant swearing and mindless lyrics about "bitches and hoes", crime, drugs, etc...

I like all the tracks except 3, and the only thing I dont like about track 5 & 13 is the female vocals. My favourites are 1, 7 & 11. By the way, if you like these guys, you might also want to check out the Fun Lovin' Criminals.

5 out of 5 stars Drew's Famous Island Party Jams.......2007-07-08

We had our first Luau and I bought 3 of Drew's Famous CD's. I loved them and my guests kept saying "Great Music." I knew when I bought them they weren't the original artists and just cover songs, but some you will be pretty hard pressed to tell the difference. I now use some of the songs for my exercise/dance sessions. The music is really great and most importantly gets your feet moving and people dancing. I would recommend not only the Famous Island Party Jams, but the Kon Tiki Luau CD and Luau Tiki Lounge Music. If you are looking for some fun you won't be disappointed.

5 out of 5 stars Great fun!.......2006-07-11

I had a Luau this past Saturday and it was a huge success! The music added to the fun, and this cd was lots of fun. The kids didn't stop dancing along with the adults. Very upbeat.
I liked this one better than the other cd for Drews luau music.

5 out of 5 stars PERFECTION!.......2006-04-13

I have everything ever recorded by the Bosstones and in my humble opinion, this is their greatest album. This album has a power and momentum on it that is not found in any of their other brilliant albums. I have to admit, I am somewhat shocked that this album does not have a five star average, I just assumed that everybody else would say it was thier favorite as well. Not one bad song on this CD and I would be hard pressed to pick fewer than eight songs off this CD to put on a Bosstones Greatest Hits album. Bring this thing to party and watch the place go nuts!

5 out of 5 stars Classic!!!!.......2004-11-01

This album is a CLASSIC. I'd even rate it as one of the top 50 albums of the nineties--easily (if not in the top 20). I still remember when this first came out--everyone complained of it's hard-rock/metal sound (mostly insular rude boys/girls, who in reality were musical elitists), but to me it was brilliant. Nate Albert is amazing in mixing so many different styles of guitar playing into one. The lyrics are great and the song-writing is great. BUY THIS ALBUM!

1 out of 5 stars Great band - bad album.......2003-07-14

I'm a huge BossTone's fan and this was the last one to buy for my collection but I was VERY DISAPPOINTED! No wonder the used copies are dirt-cheap. Very little ska influence in this one :(

5 out of 5 stars Unbelievable.......2001-04-23

This is one of the best albums I own. If this did not have "A man without" and "What was was over," it would be a perfect cd. Songs like "Don't know how to party," "Holy smoke," and "Anything goes" show just how incredible the Bosstones are. This cd is absolutely phenomenal. The horn section is really tight, Nate's inventive guitar playing is obvious, and Dicky's voice is at a pefect growl. Buy this, you couldn't possibly regret it.

5 out of 5 stars The Bosstones' Finest!.......2000-12-27

I first heard this album when I was a fourteen year old kid and it is still in my CD collection almost eight years later (unfortunately, none of my other discs are). This is the best album the Bosstones produced ("Devil's Night Out" is almost a tie, and "Question the Answers" is a distant second). "Our Only Weapon" starts the album off with a truly a** kickin' start, and by the time it reaches "Someday I Suppose" the listener will know they are hearing a classic. Not a bad cut on this CD (okay, maybe "Isaachar" is average), any ska fans should purchase it immediately.

Welcome to My Party is an apt invitation to the stirring, often festive songs that populate Rusted Root's fourth record. From the funky, joyful "Union 7," where the vocals of band founders Mike Glabicki and Liz Berlin intertwine and shine, to the lovely instrumentation of the title track to the reggae strains of "Women Got My Money," Rusted Root augment an already expansive musical palette. The multi-instrumentalist sextet fuse elements of Latin, African, Eastern, soul, rock, and traditional American music into an uplifting, intelligent, melodious whole. Discrete yet cohesive, the wonderful percussion and Middle Eastern vibe of "Artificial Winter," the bluesy Band-like ballad "Sweet Mary," and John Buynak's enchanting pennywhistle melodies on songs like "Too Much" make for an enjoyable journey. Although they've toured with the Grateful Dead and Santana and support environmental and social causes, Rusted Root are not a retro jam band or overly New Age-y. Rather, their timeless, well-crafted, and multidimensional tunes provide enriching ear candy for a stressed soul. --Katherine Turman

Customer Reviews:

2 out of 5 stars Terribly disappointing cd.......2006-05-22

I've seen the band live 5 or 6 times since the mid 90's. Everytime, except for the last time I saw them (on tour for this record) was exceptional. Not only was the concert lackluster, but the cd was worse. Honestly not a single song on this cd impressed me enough to want to listen to it again. The songs seem ...forced. After a few weeks of giving it a chance, I gave up. I can't recommend this cd to anyone. Get Cruel Sun or When I Woke and leave it at that.

2 out of 5 stars Hmm............2005-12-16

I am actually quite disappointed in their albums after their big "Ice Age" break. I feel like they lost their roots!!!!
And in 2003 I saw them in concert.... I could not believe how trendy and popish the girls were dressed. I have been a long time fan of their music. I saw them in '96 when I was a young teenager and loved them!
But I could not believe when I saw them in concert that the girls sold out like that. Their more recent songs sound so "poppy" and not so much of their old stuff. There are maybe one or two songs but the rest.... they might as well have asked Britney Spears to join the group.
If you want to fully taste and embrace Rusted Root at their finest, purchase When I Woke... and stay away from the pop albums.

4 out of 5 stars not as earthy.......2004-07-21

I never thought i'd see the day when Rusted Root used a technopulse. I thought they were pretty comfortable with themselves seeing that their past albums have been consistent as far as mood and style, and i know it's healthy for musicians to venture out of their norm, but I definitely prefer the good'ol-good'ol.
NOT that the whole album is comprised of technobeats... it's really only the last song that surprised me. There is definitely some old school Rusted Root blood flowing through this body of songs... however there were a few mediocre songs on here as well;
I feel that these unsuccesses may have been a result of trying to fuse their old technique with stark new ideas without a middle man there to help.

..so out with the negative and in with the positive...

The song "Blue Diamonds" (sung by Glabicki&Wertz), which was a most beautiful composition, did make it onto a few mainstream radio stations and frequented the college stations... I actually had a friend who used that song on her wedding day.
This album also has the predicted injections of funk (#3-Woman Got my Money), blues (#5-Weave), and other very interesting mixes of musical flavor.
Despite any negativity given this album, Rusted Root always holds their harmonies amazingly tight (Glabicki's 'trilling' falsetto is mind blowing!) and their skillful use of many odd and wonderful percussion instruments will never get old.
The combined talent of these six musicians will definitely keep me tuned in for whatever they have coming up next.

and if you ever get the chance, SEE THEM IN CONCERT!

5 out of 5 stars remember "remember"?.......2004-05-27

For those of you who think this is RR's worst release, what about "Remember"? Yes, this CD is multilayered, but they all are. Yes, it is mellower than usual, but hey, the band has aged. It is richer melodically than most of the others, and the lyrics are evolved and intelligent. Each song still gives me goosebumps. Mike still wails, especially on "welcome to my party". Although it's no "When I Woke," compared to similar bands who have slid into mediocrity (such as Phish, STI, and Santana), this album proves to me at least that we still have quality music even nowadays. Don't let the subtlety fool you.

3 out of 5 stars over produced.......2003-06-12

This is my least favorite RR album. The raw natural acoustics which was their signature is no where to be found on this album. This album is over produced and sounds like the music was copied and pasted verse by verse. The percussion has gone from physical to digital and what happened to the artwork? Overall this album is still better then most of the stuff in music today but if their albums continue to follow the rest, thats exactly what they will be. Please go back to the traditional roots of music and leave technology for the techno artists.

    "SONGS FOR SAIL"..... Eric Stone

A wonderful, tropical, sailing-themed CD by Nashville based singer/songwriter Eric Stone.

This initial effort by the immensely-talented Stone is a MUST for any Parrothead's music library and includes nine original Stone compositions, excellent covers of "Southern Cross" and "Jamaica Farewell" and the most stirring rendition of Keith Sykes' "Coast Of Marseilles" that we've ever heard. In fact, every single cut on this CD is excellent....I highly recommend it to any Parrothead!!

If clear blue ocean water, white sandy beaches and a soft tropical breeze is something you enjoy. then let Eric and his music take you there. You may also want a pina colada to go along with it.

    Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars On of the best !!.......2005-05-27

Although I've been torn as to which of Eric's CDs are the best,
I keep coming back to this one. A terrific artist, genuine and
talented. I have had the pleasure of hearing him live ( both
on a boat with just a few friends, and at a large party in
Antigua ) and he continues to entertain year after year !!
I look forward to his new music as well as enjoying his show live !

5 out of 5 stars This is great music, but ya gotta hear his new stuff!.......2004-09-30

Awesome music from one of the best indie artists in his genre! So much so that he's endorsed by Latitudes and Attitudes Sailing Magazine, Sunsail Charter Cruises and holds the title of Official Entertainer of the Sail America Boatshows all over the country. How kewl is that? I have the pleasure of knowing him personally, and his personality is truly reflected in his music, he writes from the heart. There's even more of his CDs that should be on Amazon but if you can't find 'em here, visit www.boatsongs.com. Bunches of fotos and you can check his schedule for a visit to your local area soon!

5 out of 5 stars Written by a True Sailor about Sailing Life.......2003-09-19

This is one of three great albums about sailing life with many of the songs written by Eric Stone himself. No sailboat should be without these great hits. When I am sailing and put on one of his albums, I feel like I just, "Died and went to heaven." Good clean fun songs about ocean life, sailing, the Caribbean, and fun ballads. Jimmy Buffett has nothing on this guy; Eric is all about beaches, bars, ballads, and boats.

4 out of 5 stars If you like Buffet, you'll like Eric Stone.......2003-07-25

I first discovered Eric Stone's music at the Chicago Sailboat Show at Navy Pier a few years ago. He's a one man show, with a voice like Jimmy Buffet. We picked up his Songs for Sail CD for our boat, and listened to it regularly, even in the off season. The songs are a mix of fun and relaxation, and they'll make you wish you were on a beach (or sailboat) watching the sunset with a drink in hand, a straw hat on your head, and your sweetie by your side.

His stuff is all I listen to in the car or on the boat! Makes you feel like you're on vacation! Cares and worries begone! Our time here on earth isn't a dress rehearsal.... so don't dream your life, live your dream!

5 out of 5 stars You know how Luke rolls, and this follows form.......1999-05-29

Once again, Luke tells it like it is. His first real commerical hit by himself is on this CD called "Raise the roof" which turned into a huge hit!! Another song that comes close to that is "Shelia" which is excellent. This CD is well worth owning if for nothing more than getting the people on the dance floor or offending someone. LUKE has once done it again!!!!

4 out of 5 stars great dance music.......1998-08-04

This CD has some really great dance music that is hard to find. I liked many of the tracks.

      1 out of 5 stars P-A-T-H-E-T-I-C.......1998-06-13

As a 2 Live Crew fan, I was extremely disappointed with this cd. All the tracks are made up of those cheasy digitalized beats, instead of the pumpin' bass that made the 2 Live Crew famous. If you're expecting to hear "Me So Horny", "Cowards in Compton", or anything of that calibre, don't bother with this cd.
