John Williams' lovely and moving score for the sixth Star Wars film brings thirty years of collaborating on George Lucas' beyond-popular intergalactic franchise to a close. (Is this really the end of Star Wars? Can't Lucas and Williams work together on a prequel to these prequels? Let us hope so, and that Jar Jar Binks is nowhere near it.) As this music accompanies the most exciting Star Wars film in many a moon, the soundtrack itself is more fun, more evil, more nasty and bumpy. Many of the heroic, anthemic themes woven throughout Episode Three: Revenge of the Sith will necessarily be familiar to any fan of the series, from the "Imperial March" to the main theme. It's remarkable how stirring the latter can be, no matter how many times you've heard it, and even for those who do not have all their money invested in S.W. memorabilia. There is a lot of new music here, and the lush, extensive range of both Williams and the London Symphony Orchestra is on display, most notably in the menacing, percolating "General Grievous" and the rousing "New Hope" end theme. --Mike McGonigal

Star Wars: A Musical Journey (2005) (V).......2007-06-21
The bonus dvd with this soundtrack was the reason I purchased. I enjoy film soundtracks, and science fiction, but this dvd was a real highlight for me. I got the soundtrack cd out of the local library. The cd was missing from the case, but I found this wonderful dvd instead that I went out to purchase later.
With optional segments of dialog from Ian McDiarmid, this film is a stunning visual and musical overview of the full epic story of episodes I-VI of Star Wars. For those of us who felt that eps. IV-VI fell short of our expectations, this film presents them well as parts of the whole story. The Musical Journey also stands as a summary of the entire SW opus for someone who is not familiar with the Star Wars characters and plot. Highly recommended.

Not one of his bests, but very close.......2007-05-21
My favorite tracks are "Battle of the Heroes," "Anakin's Betrayal," Palpatine's teachings, "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan," and the "Immolation Scene."
The others are very good as well, but these are especially nice. "Battle of the Heroes" is Dual of the Fates for Revenge of the Sith. "Anakin's Betrayal" is a very sad track that is, in my opinion, one of William's most powerful pieces. "Palpatine's Teachings" is really, really neat. It's very dark and moody, a perfect piece for the evil emperor. The only weird thing is the end. "Anakin vs. Obi-Wan" is the action piece that plays during the battles of Anakin and Obi-Wan, and Yoda and the Emperor. Finally, "The Immolation Scene" is another sad piece, even more so than "Anakin's Betrayal."
Although I really like this CD, there are some things that are missing (as usual). First, the whole sequence where the droids are looking for Obi-Wan after he was shot. You see Obi-Wan in his ship with Senator Organa on the Hologram (or whatever it is), and Obi-Wan says that his clones turned on him. That was some pretty awesome music that OF COURSE was left out of the CD. Then there was Dual of the Fates in the movie, but completely absent from the CD. And probably the most annoying was that whole piece of music before Obi-Wan and Anakin fight. It was so touching and sad and I CAN'T BELIEVE THEY LEFT IT OUT! Absolutely amazing. Also, did anyone notice that some little bits were cut out? For example, in Anakin vs. Obi Wan, they cut out about a second or two of choir. What?! What the heck is with that? It's when Anakin is running on the long thing and jumps on the droid on the lava. Also, there was some pretty cool drumming when you see Yoda and the Emperor fighting, and you can see the whole stadium (the big room). There's also drumming in "Enter Lord Vader" that is muted in the soundtrack.
Oh well...if I'm going to collect movie scores, I'm going to have to get used to the fact that in almost all cases there's not going to be every bit of music. I've experienced this in both Pirates of the Caribbean, Jurassic Park I (there was very little left out on this score), and almost everything else. At the moment, I'm just waiting for the 22nd, for the Pirates of the Caribbean 3 soundtrack. It's gonna be amazing.

John Williams' finest work.......2007-04-20
Having said that, I will say that few soundtracks have ever so perfectly captured the underlying emotional currents of their respective movie; in the case of ROTS, the contemporaneous tragedies of Anakin's fall to the Dark Side, the extermination of the Jedi, and the rise of the oppressive Empire. The listener is confronted with the depth and totality of the evil that has beset the entire galaxy to a degree that the film could not reach in only 2 hours.
Bravo, Dan Mohr, and BRAVO John Williams!

Album Description
My Brother's Blood Machine further develops and expands the concepts established in the Coheed and Cambria albums with such recurring themes as the McCloud Family and references to its missing children. The primary difference is that this album is being told from the point of view of a character known as "The Prize Fighter Inferno" a.k.a. Jesse from the story of Coheed and Cambria.Of the 11 songs on the album, we hear a softer side of Sanchez, enveloped in mellow electronic grooves and gentle compositions. Some tracks adopt dance rhythms while others are hypnotizing in melody and verse.

Awesome CD, not for the closed minded........2007-05-17
Not for Outsiders.......2007-03-09
Beep Beep..........2006-12-22
On first impressions, this CD looks quite promising. It's a digipak done in fake leather finish with gold embossing. Perhaps it's a Black Metal album. Inside, the lyrics are printed on a pack of tarot cards. OK, perhaps it's a Doom or Folk-inspired album. On the back are a bunch of long winded song names like "Run, Gunner Recall, Run! The Town Wants You Dead!" and "Wayne Andrews, The Old Bee Keeper". Now the smart money is on a Prog Rock concept album. This would have been a good place to stop.
However, this is a review of the music on the CD, not of it's packaging, so I gotta listen to it. Stick in the CD. Press play. Listen to a little bit. Hmm...something's not quite right here. Press eject to make sure I've got the right CD. Yep. Put it on again. Check the lyric sheet to make sure it's not a mistake from the CD pressing plant. Nope. Oh dear...
First track "The Going Price For Home" sounds like the demo track of a Casio keyboard with one of the Bee Gees singing over it. WTF? Perhaps the next track will be better. "The Fight Of Moses Early And Sir Arthur McCloud" has an acoustic guitar and a synthesized violin with one of the Bee Gees singing over it. Yuck! Quick, skip to the next track! Um, OK, so now it's Simon And Garfunkel singing a B-side for "Scarborough Fair" on the most pretentiously named song ever, "Our Darling Daughter You Are, Little Cecilia Marie". Argh! Next track, quick! Damn, that keyboard is back again, this time accompanying the Jackson Five, complete with "Doo doo dah dah" lyrics. The title? "A Death In The Family"...
OK, so the obvious conclusion is that `My Brother's Blood Machine' by The Prize Fighter Inferno is awful, and I'm not going to torture you or myself by describing the rest of the album. This album gets marks for it's packaging, because it's one of the best presented CDs I've ever seen. Apparently it took seven years to record. This is a misprint. It was recorded by a seven year old.
The flip-side of Claudio...highly addicting album!.......2006-12-20
WARNING: GIVE CD A SECOND CHANCE...
On the 3 1/2 hr. ride home from school this break though, I was listening to the whole CD...wow!!! Back in the day (1998-ish) I used to love industrial and trance music like Meat Beat Manifesto and Orbital, since I got into playing electric guitar in 2000 I never listen to them anymore and turned myself into a rock maniac. While this not so much trance or rock, The Prize Fighter Inferno tingles the part of my brain that is not all rock and roll, and some of the tracks -- specifically "Fight of Moses Early..." and "Run, Gunner Recall..." -- show off Claudio's acoustic guitar skill. Some of it sounds a bit amateur, but some of these songs (as the liner notes/tarot cards say) are 7 years old! Most of the songs are well-mastered and put together, and are highly addicting and you'll hear yourself singing the catchy-as-hell choruses of "Who Watches the Watchmen?" and "The Margaretville Dance" much to your own chagrin.
Overall this is a great light album to listen to, as opposed to the in-your-face rock that is Coheed. Even though they're two different genres, the dark subject matter and even some of the melodies are really reminiscent of Coheed...but some of these songs have some extreme bass and are just plain weird to people if they're not used to Claudio's voice, make sure you pump it up in "Who Watches The Watchmen?" and put a hole in your floor from your subwoofer.
What everyone has to remember though, is this is NOT a rip-off of The Postal Service. Like I said before, the clever little tarot cards in the CD case say that this album has been written and recorded over 7 years, which makes some of these songs even older than Co&Ca itself (the tone of Claudio's voice in "The Missing McCloud Boys" is really similar to that of "IRO-bot", which was recorded in the Shabutie days).
To sum it up: You can see where Coheed songs like "Once Upon Your Dead Body" come from...just imagine a couple songs like that, a couple like "IRO-bot", but mostly Claudio lyrics set to Casio-style keyboard beats and acoustic guitar, and you got yourself The Prize Fighter Inferno.
I have a serious problem.......2006-12-12
I bought and it upon first listen, I found myself repeating and repeating the CD, devouring the lyrics (cleverly places on the back of tarot cards), and annoying my friends with music they cannot stand.
To compare this sound seems a disservice, but for lack of better explanation, I feel I must. I would call it a folksy-Postal Service sound with Bram Stoker style lyrics. My friend always complains that Claudio sounds strikingly similar to Michael Jackson, and in the song "The Margretville Dance," I can't argue with him. Though, that song is one of my favorites. It is electronica and it is folk and it is acoustic and it is indie. I'm pretty sure I even heard a washboard in "Run, Gunner Recall, Run! The Town Wants You Dead!"
Normally, I do not find a album released as a side project taking this much of a hold on me, but I would dare say that this is one of the best albums released in 2006. Still, I would buy this album for "Who Watches The Watchmen?" alone.

Released during the era of leisure suits and pet rocks, the film Superman: The Movie has aged about as well. But the often-clumsy charms of Richard Donner's cartoonish, hit-and-miss take on the Man of Steel was blessed with at least one superlative artistic effort: John Williams's epic score. The composer's Oscar-nominated music (coming on the heels of Star Wars and Close Encounters) was a wall-to-wall heroic symphony, rife with memorable melodies and ominous arrangements. Almost every original cut on this soundtrack appears in an expanded version, supplemented by nearly a dozen previously unreleased cues and alternate takes. Featuring a deluxe slipcase and extensive, new liner notes, this is the definitive release of one of Maestro Williams's greatest scores. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:
Original 1978 Recording?.......2007-04-04
AWESOME! John Williams shows again why he's the master of movie scores.......2006-08-31
The original soundtrack release from 1978, while still an excellent collection, was sadly lacking in several of the best cues from the film. Most important of these was Track 12 (Disc 1) in which the helicopter crashes on the Daily Planet's roof and dangles precariously above the street. Williams builds on it, introducing Superman's theme into it as Clark Kent runs across the street, then rips open his shirt to reveal the 'S' - the symbol of the House of El - then enters the revolving door & exits as Superman. At the end of this is one of my favorite cues; the Superman theme is played as the Man of Steel appears above Metropolis, flying over the city on the hunt for criminals. 'Crime of the Century' (Track 6, Disc 2) was one of my favorite cues; this one portrayed the missile convoy as it made its way along the freeway, where Luthor staged the accident to get his cronies close enough to sabotage the missiles. There are too many new tracks to list here that should have been included the first time around, just a lack of space precluded this from happening.

Mars Colony also have a soundtrack CD available for Streets Of Rage 2, which is also more thematic. The music on this CD is rather good, with great beats and all but it just seems in between a soundtrack CD and a regular 'trance' CD. Some of the tracks are 'Tribal Dance' mixes and I can't imagine most of the music being out-of-place in a typical nightclub.
So if you can find it, get a copy. It's also great for budding DJs to have fun with in mixing and editing.

country rock pioneer primo work.......2007-04-24
"Well, I reached in my pocket and I pulled out the Omega
that was never one second behind.
I knew the horse that I was running at the Southern Talledaga
had won for the twentysecond time..." (He has an Omega, just like James Bond!)
Sure I knew his goofy face on the silly Monkees show and I knew Listen to the Band, but when I bought this LP, it caused a whole reappraisal of his stuff. Esp Nevada Fighter, there's not a bad cut on the album, well sung, esp tuneful, hearfelt lyrics. He's smart and he's clever, with a marvellous sense of humour. A Sartre French Existentialist idea like "Running from Le Grand Ennui" was NOT a topic in most country songs of the era - a tongue-in-cheek intellectual Nez joke in great song. He became a favorite I have listened to for decades. And while I like country rock, I have little tolerance for country, at least the country music around in 1971.
I have gone back and bought all of his stuff from the Monkees onward. In retrospect, I think I like his country rock work more than the better known Byrds - generally thought of as the first country rockers with Sweetheart of the Rodeo (no letters please!). And he really was there at the begining of country rock ('68) as a primary influence as much as Gram Parsons. He wrote "Different Drum" and "Some of Shelly Blues" for the then unknown Linda Ronstadt gee, maybe 68-69? And his pedal steel guy, the late Red Rhodes, sounded like he played that difficult instrument forward, backward, rightside up, upside down, and took stock country music licks and completely turned them on their ear.
Of all his records, I still listen to Nevada Fighter most. (The title of his song "Propinquity" comes from a character Zelda Gilroy in a late 50's TV show the "Many Loves Of Dobie Gilles", the dwarf Zelda felt Dobie would fall in love with her if she hung around all the time, but that's a different subject). Many of Nesmiths songs deal with love, but he really brings consistently fresh perspectives to this overdone subject.
"Tantamount" is loopier, trippier, more rock and generally less sucessful, but with more Red Rhodes. "Mama Rocker" starts out fast. "Highway 99 with Melange", has a silly atempo Nez digression in the middle of the tune!
Why this man, this great talent, is not better known, I have no idea.
Great duo.
Mixed Bag On 2-Disc Set.......2003-04-20
Nevada Fighter is without doubt the best of the First National Band Trilogy. Strong country rockers like Grand Ennui and the title track alone make this one a good disc. But it only gets better with the bittersweet Here I Am, the gentle Texas Morning, Rainmaker, and a song Nez originally penned during his Monkees' days, Propinquity (I've just begun to care)(compare it to the version found on Missing Links, Volume 3). The only thing that takes away from the album is that he only penned 1/2 of the songs himself; I am personally a fan of his songwriting, especially his lyrics. Not that the covers are sub-par (well, maybe the hokey Tumbling Tumbleweeds), but having songs written by Nesmith always is a plus.
He followed up that album with a slightly artsy disc that found Nesmith a bit out of focus, musically. Mama Rocker is great, with its Jerry Lee Lewis piano, and his extended atmospheric soundscapes that fade in and out of Bonaparte's Retreat are interesting, but most of the disc falters. Lazy Lady and Talking To the Wall have flashes of greatness, but not enough to measure up to Nesmith's high potential. It sounds like he was trying to create a concept album, but with other people's songs mixed in with his own(he once again filled out an album with half cover versions and half originals). Maybe it was the introduction of the Moog synth that gave the album an odd edge to it. I don't know, but the songs don't touch me in the way his first three albums do.
Luckily, we also have bonus tracks here, and they are all interesting, especially Smoke Smoke Smoke and Cantata and Fugue in C&W. All in all, you have to get this disc simply for Nevada Fighter and the bonus songs. Papa Nez is still better than any other's of the same genre, even in his weaker moments.
This one GROWS on ya.......2002-04-05
Nevada Fighter contains, along with the great tracks "Grand Ennui" and "I've Just Begun to Care" (along with a wealth of First National Band classics; what ever became of the rest of the band?!?) one of Nesmith's best songs: "Texas Morning". Unfortunately it is tied into an odd take of the classic "Tumbling Tumbleweeds."
Tantamount to Treason is a bit harder to take, but will grow on you, too. Opening with the HOT "Mama Rocker" (how would the Band sound doing this?), the album drifts a little. There is definately a sythesizer on "Lazy Lady"; "You Are My One" phases slowly from left to right and back again and drifts into a latin beat ala "Tengo Amore"; "Highway 99 With Melange" might be better suited to one of Leon Russell's albums. But through it all, Nesmith's easy voice is an anchor, and there are more than enough good musical moments to make up for the odd ones. "Wax Minute" is a good laid back Nesmith track, hinting at the Latin flavors to come later in the decade. And one of my favorites is "Bonaparte's Retreat." I had this tape in the car on my way to the airport for a weekend away, sang it under my breath all weekend, and popped it back in the instant I was homeward bound.
The bonus tracks ARE worth the price of the CD, especially "Smoke! Smoke! Smoke!"... but don't skip the rest of the CD when you get it.
Tantamount To Excellence.......2001-06-05
Bonus Tracks Make This a Must-Have Purchase.......2001-06-05
The second two of Nesmith's first four albums differ from the first two (Magnetic South and Loose Saltue, both from 1970) in two ways. Nevada Fighter (1971, tracks 1-10) feature a number of session musicians that were brought in during the breakup of the First National Band. And Tantamount to Treason (1972, tracks 11-19) was recorded with the Second National Band, of which Rhodes was the only carryover from the previous band. Perhaps more significant is that Nesmith began relying more on outside writers. On his first two albums, Nesmith wrote all but three songs. For the next two albums he wrote less than half.
Of the originals, Nevada Fighter is highlighted by the oft-covered ballad "Propinquity (I've Just Begun to Care)" and rockers like "Grand Enui" and the title track.
On Tantamount to Treason, Nesmith still rocks with songs like "Mama Rocker," but the other three originals--"Lazy Lady," "You Are My One" and "In the Afternoon"--are quiet reflective ballads. Overall, this is the least country-sounding Nesmith album to date--especially on tracks like "Highway 99 with Melange." Although the album closes with a heartfelt rendition of "She Thinks I Still Care." My personal favorite, however, is the cover of the gorgeous "Bonaparte's Retreat."
While casual fans may better be served by the import compilations Masters or Listen to the Band, this is a welcome addition to your collection. After thirty years, this music sounds as fresh today as when it was first released. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Took me back.......2007-01-06
The CD took a small hit in my view as I actually prefer the original version of the opening them to the slightly different arrangement found here, but the rest of the tracks are more than fine. If you at all like the original version of Galactica, I think you would find it hard to go wrong with this.
Great Score, But Bad Remaster.......2005-09-02
At last...........2005-06-10
Well, fast forward to yesterday, and I'm rifing through various cd soundtracks in my local cd/dvd wherehouse/bonanza/free-for-all store, and there it was. And by God, it was in cd format! And yes, it was ORIGINAL! Not re-performed by some Scottish Orchestra a couple of years ago! Immediately, it was in my greedy hands, helplessly going along with me to my home.
First off, this cd has liner notes. It's not just flimsy repros of the front and back of the old LP. Glen Larson, Stu Phillips, and Richard Hatch all pitch in with recollections about the show, with Phillips's being the most memorable (John Williams coming by to listen to the theme to see if any Star Wars was in there, in case Lucasfilm wanted to sue).
The sound quality is great, no hiss or tininess. The only gripe I have is that the strings sound a little too "smooth." Don't know if that makes sense, but they sound a little too reverbed, concert-hallish. But hey, if that's all I can come up with to complain, then this is a winner!
Relive the memories, in a format that you can play again and again!
Twenty-six years on, it still stirs the blood!.......2004-11-22
One thing most people can agree on whether they be a fan or not, is that the theme to Battlestar Galactica is one of the most memorable of TV themes!
Here you get the pieces that went with the first episode that was broadcast - Saga of a Star World, but many of the themes pop up again further along in the series.
The score is a big score for TV, played by the LA Philharmonic no less, and in my humble opinion, composer Stu Phillips's finest work.
Good soundtrack.......2004-08-10
