The Wreckers are Grammy-winning songstress Michelle Branch and friend/journeywoman Nashville singer-songwriter Jessica Harp, a team whose solid craftsmanship and soaring, airtight harmonies often lift their hook-smart contemporary country stylings above what's too often mere fizzy, pop-crossover formula. They may have entered the public consciousness via the wide exposure of "Good Kind" on the primetime soap opera One Tree Hill, but the bracing, back-porch charms of the single "Leave the Pieces" should find them a following well beyond that series' teen audience. The reflective title track, gritty folk charms of "Tennessee" and giddy crowd-pleaser "My, Oh My" are suffused with a lyrical maturity that's the perfect counterpoint to the duo's sturdy musical constructs. Solid songs all, delivered with a muscular vocal conviction that does considerably more than merely sell them. --Jerry McCulleyAlbum Description

"So I'm a little left of center, I'm a little out of tune," sings Michelle Branch on her debut album's "You Get Me." Well, maybe. Branch offers a well-produced pastiche of chiming and strumming guitars, hip-hop-lite beats, quiet-verse-to-louder-chorus templates, and positive thinking. At her best--"If She Only Knew," a propulsive love note to an ex--she rivals the likes of Sixpence None the Richer as likable radio-aimed fare. Catchy and self-expressive while breaking absolutely no ground, Branch also echoes everyone from label-mate Alanis Morissette to the solo Belinda Carlisle. She dies just a little in this crazy mixed-up world, escapes to her secret garden for sunshine in the pouring rain, and ultimately finds her reflection getting clearer. The Spirit Room could be the next bit of pop philosophy to dazzle mainstream audiences. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
very impressive.......2007-06-22
This album is a breath of fresh air. No really, it is!.......2007-06-12
And don't get me started on John Shanks. This guy is a musical genius. He works with Michelle Branch on production and helps write five of the eleven songs on this nice full length debut. He is also responsible for the catchiness of Ashlee Simpson songs, which most of them I love.
Best songs:
All You Wanted
Goodbye To You
Drop In The Ocean (this song is amazing)
Honorable Mention:
Something To Sleep To
If you don't own any CDs by this talented singer/songwriter/guitarist/etc, etc. It would be wise to start at the beginning with The Spirit Room.
The only thing that bothered me a bit was the song titles: Maybe I'm in the minority, but some of them were just too predictable, leaving some of the songs to lack a bit of depth. I believe Michelle was rather young when she wrote some of these songs though...
Anyway, 4 stars!
P.S. My favorite line is in the song Goodbye To You. It's capitalized:
"I've been searchin' deep down in my soul/Words that I'm hearing are starting to get old/Feels like I'm starting all over again/THE LAST 3 YEARS WERE JUST PRETEND...
" If you want to, I can save you..." - Michelle Branch ROCKS .......2007-05-20
1. Everywhere- 10/10 This song's one of my favorites! It has a nice upbeat tune to it, and the lyrics are catchy. A great way to start a career.
2. You get me- 10/10 Another Great song! I like the lyrics "So I'm a little left of center, I'm a little out of tune". It's great for any teen who feels ordinary.
3. All you wanted-10/10 Such a good song! I can feel it's about her trying to save a boy from the popular crowd. Here everything fits.. the lyrics, music, everything.
4.You set me free- 9/10- Everything's good in this song, just not upbeat enough for me, but it's also great!
5.Something to sleep to- 8/10 As the song says.. it's good to listen to if you want a soothing sensation before sleeping!
6.Here with me-9/10 Not the best, but still has everything nice and flowing. I like it.
7.Sweet Misery- 9/10 It's catchy, and the musics good, but I like All you wanted and Everywhere better.
8.If she only knew- 10/10 This is another favorite! It's fun, and I'm sure anyone would love Michelle after hearing this song.
9. I'd rather be in love- 9/10 This song shows Michelle wise beyond 18. The lyrics fit the mood and music of the song.
10.Goodbye to you- 10/10 A song about moving on with your life. This fits all the feeling you're supposed to fell after a break-up. Another fave.
11.Drop in the Ocean- 8/10 A bit too mellow for me, but it's perfect to end the album.
Beautiful tunes and lyrics.......2007-01-08
Michelle Branch rocks!.......2006-12-26
1. Everywhere- 9/10- A fun and upbeat song. Pretty good, love the intro to it.
2. You Get Me- 5/10- It's pretty, but just too slow to me. Maybe it'll grow on me eventually.
3. All You Wanted- 10/10- The BEST on the album. Love it! Was this a single? If not, it definalty should have been.
4. You Set Me Free- 10/10- Like i already wrote, I got this CD after hearing this song on Ice Princess. Really good and fun to sing to.
5. Something to Sleep To- 7/10- OK. You should listen to it if you want to go to sleep. I still think it's OK.
6. Here With Me- 9/10- Love the beginning and the chorus. It seems like a really good song for a party.
7. Sweet Misery- 6/10- OK also. I just don't really like how the chorus is and it's too short.
8. If Only She Knew- 10/10- Fun and cool. One of my favorites.
9. I'd Rather Be in Love- 7/10- Sounds alot like Sweet Misery.
10. Goodbye to You- 8/10- This is a really pretty song about moving on in life.
11. Drop in the OCean- I don't really get this song. I'm not going to rate it.
Overall, this CD gets an A. It's pretty good. I think you should buy it.

Sorry, Michelle..........2007-06-06
My favorite song here is definitely Hotel Paper. I could totally relate to that awesome song. But I'm wondering what happened to Michelle between the time she first came out and now. It's not like she is dressing inappropriately or anything, but with the heartache came many, MANY bland songs.
I understand the point of Tuesday Morning, and the lyrics are decent, but it's just a boring song. Just like a lot of the other ones.

For the person who wanted the lyrics to prairie lullaby, I found these on the internet and believe they are correct:
Shadows slowly creeping, down the prairie trail. Everything is sleeping, all but the nightingale.
Soon the moon will be climbing across the blue, blue sky, night winds slow and haunting.
This prairie lullaby.
Tumble to bed, my child, my little old sleepy head, the stars are in the sky.
Now that your prayers are said, my little old sleepy head to this prairie lullaby.
Saddle up your ponies, to sail with you, lead you down a trail of dreams.
Stumble to bed, my child, my little old sleepy head, to this prairie lullaby.

Check out the Salt City Six and Dukes of Dixieland if you don't believe me!
This, comming from a tuba player!
However, the recording engineer has no clue whatsoever! A VERY poor recording for contemporary standards. I would bet that even the master tape couldn't be cleaned up. Very shoddy work here! I could do beter with a dixie cup and a string to a scully lathe burning hot direct to platten.
If you are an audiophile, run away! If you have an unconditional love for jazz, go for it!
This could/should have been recorded better!

Album Description
For three decades now, the beloved Dry Branch Fire Squad has been a bastion of mountain soul, bluegrass, and old-time music - carrying timeless traditions into the modern era with a blend of reverence, soul, and wit all their own. This special edition thirtieth anniversary collection is designed to complement Rounder's previous Dry Branch anthology, Tried and True (Rounder 11519), and contains material (some previously unreleased) recorded in the twenty years since that collection's release. Under the stewardship of Ron Thomason, Dry Branch Fire Squad has weathered the storms on the sea of time, all to forge an iron-clad brand of defiantly rugged old-time and traditional bluegrass music that imparts essential reminders of the past while unafraid to meet the future head-on.Customer Reviews:
this group is GREAT.......2007-06-28
A charming hour that treats us to DBFS's sound since 1989.......2007-05-19
Their ninth album on Rounder Records, this heartfelt 30th anniversary collection only draws material from the label's releases since 1989. The reason is that there was a previous band anthology, "Tried and True," (Rounder 11519) released in 1987. Would it have been better for a 30-year album to also draw material from all three decades, and from as far back as their three pre-Rounder LPs from the 1977-78 timeframe? While their Rounder material has been superior to their earliest recordings, it would've been exciting to document all 30 years with a couple songs like Out on the Blue Ridge Mountain from their earliest 1977 "Live at the Crying Cowboy Concert Saloon" LP (RT-513). Also, the early days of the band emphasized basic, mournful, sensitive vocal duet arrangements with Ron Thomason and tenor John Baker (fiddler Kenny Baker's son). You'll need to get DBFS's 1979, 1981 or 1982 Rounder albums ("Born to be Lonesome," "Antiques and Inventions," or "Fannin' the Flames") to experience them together. Or to hear some of Thomason's originals like "Dak's Song" or "Oh! What a Storm." So, to truly celebrate all 30 years with this band, I recommend also picking up a copy of the 1987 "Tried and True" anthology mentioned earlier.
Among the 21 tracks on "30th Anniversary," there are four previously unreleased songs (He's Coming To Us Dead, Over in the Glory Land, Golden Ring, How Great Thou Art). Although liner notes don't indicate when they were recorded, they're quite recent, and three feature the band's newest lineup of Ron Thomason, Brian Aldridge, Dan Russell and Tommy Boyd. A hit for George Jones and Tammy Wynette, "Golden Ring" is still arranged with Ron's crosspicked guitar, and the song does appear on the band's 1981 album "Antiques and Inventions" with a different group except for common denominator Thomason. The binding thread or glue in all of the band configurations, Ron primarily plays guitar or mandolin. His clawhammer banjo picking appears in two songs - his solo rendition of Grayson & Whitter's "He's Coming To Us Dead" and the band's quartet offering of "The Honest Farmer," accompanied only by fiddle and banjo.
Vocal arrangements capture the emotional essence of their largely traditional bluegrass and gospel canon. On all vocal cuts, Thomason sings lead. In the last two decades, the band's mournful signature sound has also regularly been built around Ron's lead with female tenor or high baritone parts (courtesy of Suzanne Thomas and Mary Jo Leet). All three of them are showcased together in "Dip Your Fingers in Some Water," and the quartet (with Charles Leet singing bass) entitled "When I Went Down in the Valley to Pray." Hazel Dickens, who recalls a time when it was "downright subversive practically to be a woman in bluegrass," sings tenor on "Hide You in the Blood." These songcarriers have kept nuggets like Carter Stanley's "Rollin' on Rubber Wheels" in their repertoire for years. Ron once said that he viewed the band as "spokesmen for a way of life" among the people who originally propagated the music. It's their revitalization of dusty old classic treasures (like A. P. Carter's "A Distant Land To Roam") that has also built their fanbase. Doc Watson simply called it "the old music," folk ballads and the kinds of songs sung by the Carter Family and Grayson & Whitter. Interestingly, their vocal stacking for that A.P. Carter cover includes four vocal parts, but no tenor according to the liner notes.
Instrumentally, the band's unpretentious picking is sufficient for their authentic kind of repertoire. With some electric bass and steel guitar, "Carolyn at the Broken Wheel Inn" is a unique selection. Besides those mentioned above, others in the band have included Dave Edmundson (fiddle, vocals), John Hisey (banjo, vocals), [...] Irwin (bass), Bobby Maynard (fiddle) and Adam McIntosh (banjo, mandolin, vocals). The band's widespread appeal in live performance is also due to their showmanship and stage presence that enhance their purest form bluegrass. The charismatic band opens up, sings and plays with sincerity, and builds rapport. All in all, this is a charming hour that treats us to DBFS's sound since 1989. Album Description
Dry Branch Fire Squad remains one of the most remarkable bluegrass bands to have emerged in the past three decades. In all that time, with numerous Rounder releases to their credit, their 1996 live album, Live at Last has been the consistent bestseller. Here, at long last, is the release long-time and new Dry Branch fans have been waiting for: two full live sets of leader Ron Thomason's incendiary satire and humor, plus many Dry Branch favorites including "Orphan Train,""Coming to Us Dead," and "Hot Corn, Cold Corn." Nowhere does their inimitable style come alive more fully than in a concert setting. Spanning two discs, this live performance perfectly captures all the elements of Dry Branch that have endeared them to the bluegrass community for so long. From gospel shakers to straight-ahead bluegrass stomps to rural metaphysics, Live at the Newburyport Firehouse is the definitive Dry Branch Fire Squad experience."Simply put, this is the best live band playing today each time I was moved not only to laughter, but tears and joy as well. Every time." -Chris Stuart, Southern California Bluegrass News "It's old-time vocals shouted out with honesty and conviction - rough edges proudly showing, breathtakingly quick instrumentals that bring to mind free-spirited wild horses, Ron Thomason's biting satire and wry political commentary, hauntingly moving a cappella gospel songs, pure unadulterated old-time religion set to mountain music. This is the Dry Branch Fire Squad." -Nancy Cardwell, Bluegrass Now

Incredible music from an incredible band........2005-04-11
This latest album is the real deal. If you can't make it to a live concert, Live at Newburyport Firehouse is the next best thing. A DBFS show is a mix of storytelling and music making, and this album lets you hear both sides of one of the most entertaining bands around. Buy the album, then track down one of their live performances. You will be glad you did.
Nice 2-CD album highlights amazing entertainment quotient.......2005-03-02
Their "Live at the Newburyport Firehouse" has about an equal number of songs and stories. There are many of the band's favorites such as "The Orphan Train," "Coming to Us Dead," "Shine, Hallelujah, Shine," and "Hot Corn, Cold Corn." We can tell that the crowd is held in rapt attention, and they also laugh and applaud for the tales told by wry-witted Thomason like "Mel Bay" and six-minute "Hippies, Beatniks and Power Easements" which is the prelude to an up-tempo "Jesus on the Mainline."
In this live show recorded in November, 2002, one thing becomes very apparent. This band focuses on entertainment, puts their audience first, and their show is presented much like an old-time radio show. Their boundless energy is well-balanced so the sets flow well with peaks and valleys, alternating songs with stories. While audience applause can be slightly annoying in a live recording, that is a tradeoff we must accept in return for the spirit and enthusiasm of a live show. There is actually more dialogue on these discs than there is music, and that might discourage some from multiple listens. Rounder Records might want to consider a future project from Ron Thomason that is solely a disc of storytelling.
Besides Thomason, the lineup for this 2002 DBFS show features Charles Leet (bass), Mary Jo Leet (guitar), Adam McIntosh (guitar, mandolin), and Dan Russell (banjo, mandolin, bass). All sing in the band. I was particularly impressed with McIntosh's guitar work and Russell's banjo picking. Adam McIntosh sings the lead vocals only on a cover of Merle Haggard's "Lonesome Fugitive," and his lead vocal quality is a strength that the band should further capitalize on in the future. Dan Russell really tears up bluegrass instrumentals like "Roanoke" and "Shenandoah Breakdown." Also adept at country music, Russell has professional experience with the likes of John Anderson.
In sum, this splendid 2-CD album highlights a band with amazing staying power and entertainment quotient. It seems that they now enjoy music-making, storytelling and entertaining more than ever. (Joe Ross, staff writer, Bluegrass Now)

DBFS sings the gospel.......2002-06-20
My personal favorites are "When I Went Down In The Valley To Pray" and "If I Could Just Touch The Hem of His Garment." Both are sung a cappella and reflect the fervent (almost preaching) style of the genre.
"When I Went Down..." is fundamentally the same song that Alison Krauss made famous on the "O Brother" soundtrack, but I actually prefer this version - it's more vibrant. You can *see* the preacher in the little mountain church half-talking half-singing this.
If you're new to Dry Branch, (1) get this CD, (2) get their "Live at Last" CD (which includes some of band leader Ron Thomason's hysterical monologues), and most importantly (3) see the band live.

Album Description
Jefferson and Liberty is a collection of 18th century tunes and songs chosen as representative of those played and sung by working class musicians in the North American colonies. It features jigs, hornpipes, and reels from the English and American country dance repertoire, as well as a French-Canadian dance and party song, La Bastringue"; airs from Ireland and Scotland, military fife tunes from England and France, a Charles Wesley hymn and a Caribbean sea Chantey. The title cut, "Jefferson and Liberty" is an Irish jig that was adopted as Thomas Jefferson's 1800 presidential campaign song. Also included is "O! Say Bonnie Lass", a song taken from the recently discovered musical notebooks of Capt. George Bush, a soldier in Washington's continental army. The album is a sampling of colonial American and European music that would have been shared across political and social boundaries from the pubs and taverns to the dances and parlors.Customer Reviews:

1. Album Version (03:31) - The original of this song which can be heard on the album "Hotel Paper" and in the video.
2. The Passengerz Tuff Club (08:01) - These guys give the song a deep club feel with a pounding beat and almost hypnotic vocal effects. The bassline is awesome and I can see this remix do well on the dancefloor in a nightclub.
3. Chris Cox Penetrating Club Mix (08:53) - This is perhaps the most popular remix of this song and also one of Chris' most successful remixes after he and Barry Harris went seperate ways after their success as the remix duo Thunderpuss. Chris stays true to the old TP sound in this remix while adding elements of rock into it at the same time and the result is truly brilliant! It fits the song perfectly and the breakdown is really gorgeous with a great following build-up. My favorite remix and it really is the stand-out track on this CD Maxi.
4. Sean Konnery Resportator Club Mix (06:56) - This remix is really weird. The beats remind me a bit of Club 69's remix of Madonna's "Nothing Really Matters" but I find the other elements of the remix kinda freaky. The chorus is okay though.
5. Dave Hernandez Club Mix (07:22) - This is house with a disco twist to it and a few pianos added in for good measure. The vocals are slightly offbeat in the first verse and they're placed really weird all throughout, totally different from the song's original structure. Still, this remix is much better than Sean Konnery's somewhat strange effort.
6. High Bias Radio Mix (03:35) - A nice dance remix that stays true to the original. The vocals seem re-sung for this remix and it's cool to hear Michelle actually singing on a dance track. The vocals are a bit stronger in the original, but still a great remix.
7. The Passengerz Tuff Radio (03:56) - A shorter version of the slamming club mix perfect for radio play.
8. Sean Konnery Resportator Radio Edit (04:11) - For me the club mix of this was more than enough so a second go at it kinda makes my ears bleed. Only good thing about it is that it's shorter.
This is a great single if you're a Michelle Branch fan cos in addition to a great song you get five remixers who each give it their own touch and the result is a wicked Maxi single that is truly worth having in your record collection.
