Editorial Reviews
Eric is a renaissance man with a mind, body, and soul from an era before samplers and borrowed music reigned supreme. A time when stretching boundaries and exploring one's self through their music was appreciated. Eric is a musician's musician- true to himself and his music. He writes all his own material, sings and plays the bass, as well as the sax, guitar, keys, drums, and many others. Eric records and produces himself much like Stevie Wonder, Prince, Roy Ayers, D'Angelo, Lauren Hill, and all of the other greats have, and continue to do.
Some of his major influences are, of course, the above mentioned, and other artists ranging from Me'Shell N'Degeocello and Average White Band, to Joni Mitchell and John Coltrane. His vibe, presence and demeanor are reminiscent of the late Marvin Gaye. Yet, with all of these comparisons, Eric is one of a kind in his being and his music. Take a listen and you will understand.

Oh, Brother...

Ringo Starr can get by with a little help fromhisfriends. As for the rest of us, well, we don't need Monica Lewinsky or Selena's former fan club president to tell us the true value of friendship.
That's why, when we really have to put the screws to someone, there's no substitute for family. They stick with you through it all.
East Longmeadow funkmeister Eric Brandoli knows this. And after years of attaining notoriety with the seven-piece outfit Brotherman, he decided to pare things down considerably for his first solo studio effort.
In fact, aside from his brother, man, Eric played all the instruments and engineered and recorded his impressive self-titled debut.
"Back with Brotherman, I had this great group of guys from UMass," Brandoli says. "But they have all kind of grown up and spread out, so it was tough to get them together or pay them all. I have grown up with music and play a few instruments, and I also spent the last year like a hermit in my basement learning the Roland 1680, so I figured I'd give it a try."
Considering that Brandoli can sing and play bass, guitar and keyboards, it's not surprising that his attempt was highly successful. From the opening swagger of "Kinda Love" to the menacing bass lines on "Piece of Mind," the former soldier/housepainter/landscaper/cook/firefighter proves he still knows his grooves. And that, among all those backslashes, the word "musician" should always be included.
Behind the kit is brother Paul -- and he's by no means a mere timekeeper.
More like cooking guru Emeril Lagasse, dashing each tune liberally with tight hits -- BAM! -- accents -- POW! -- and dynamics (add your own exclamation here).
The interplay created by rhythmic sibling revelry is as fresh as it is instinctive for the brothers Brandoli. A fact not lost on the front man for this project.
"Obviously, we've played and jammed together for years," Eric adds. "But Paul is also in a few other projects, so there are a lot of influences at work."
Ironically, it's blood relative Paul who might have to bail on Eric's two CD release parties -- July 6 at Theodores' and July 15 at Caffeine's.
He has previous commitments. Based on Eric's ear and selections thus far (Tom Ingram, Ed Dupont and John Kasiewics are just a few of the stellar guests he dug up for the studio project), I wouldn't be too worried about his replacement.
Besides, Paul, you know no matter who Eric finds for gigs, you'll always have home behind the throne with him in the studio. You've got that natural chemistry ... and your price is right.
