I don't know if I want a follow-up to a masterpiece. How can perfection possibly be surpassed? One of my all-time favorites.

What on earth?.......2006-05-17

To be honest, I didn't like this CD much at first. It really grew on me, though, and has been all I've listened to in the last three days.

True, it's a leap outside of the realm of what you'd expect from ESL and Thievery Corporation. Not a bad thing - who wants to never be surprised?

It's not nearly as ... happy as I expected it to be though, reading others reviews. It's definitely funky, but has a sort of dark vibe to it, too.

It rocks. Buy it. Absorb it.

Liking it more with every listen.......2005-01-22

This is an excellent disc - it ranks up there with Arkestra One and Chris Joss (and of course anything by TC) as my favorite recent ESL releases. Ok, and Les Hommes - I'm rarely disappointed by anything from ESL. Anyway, while comparisons to Lemon Jelly, Ursula 1000, and 9 Lazy 9 may all apply to a certain degree, Karminsky has distinct sound all their own that is fun and gets ya movin' but has depth at the same time. Excellent beats, quality textures and atmosphere you can cut with a knife put these guys head and shoulders among most others that aspire to the same. Can't wait to see what they do next....

Listening to the tracks while driving in my econo sized fuel-emission-friendly car...reminds me of all the nouveau car company adverts on the telly...

When I listen to The Power of Suggestion, I actually FEEL like I'm winding around corners and breaking at the lights...when perhaps it's reality and I AM the car advert...hopelessly, I feel that the Toyota Echo hasn't reached the Mitsubishi or Volks Wagon of new age advertsing.

All that bubbly girly jargon aside...I absolutely LOVE this album...addiction? YES...and I have had some friends in the passenger side admitting the SUGGESTION that the album would be fantastic for late night parties and dark metro-dripping clubs...

I may be fantastically new to Electronica...and maybe I'm still not sure of the genre or versatility of the music...but for a girl who's into Hello Kitty, polka dots in her bathroom, snow shoes and Ice Bugs...this cd ROCKS...in it's own transforming, transcending, transmitting way! I recommend you be patient and make it through all the tracks and enjoy with a glass of chardonnay!

Karminsky Experience Inc. doesn't deliver the traditional sound of the monotonous downtempo on the market today. Instead on the awesome "Power of Suggestion", Producers Dingle and Munn venture into the realm of sophisticated kitch as heard on the opening "Departures" and the groovey "A Little Happening", and top-notch tantra-grooves as heard on the amazing "Assignment Istanbul", "Belly Disco", "Shall We Dance", "The Hip Shiek" and "The Wayward Camel." Karminsky Experience Inc. also delivers the ultra-lounge sound on tracks like "Introducing Louis Pachini", "The Power of Suggestion" and "Exploration". As always, the ESL record label brings us yet another amazing talent! This one comes Highly Recommended!

One Richard's Best.......2004-10-27

This album features some of Richard's most creative songs and demonstrates his style with words and the sax. I recomend this album as a first to anyone not familiar with Richard Elliot.

Poetry without words..........1999-08-31

I believe that Richard Elliot is one of the most under appreciated artists around! This CD, "The Power of Suggestion", is a fusion of bluesy-funky rhythms (a`la Tower of Power) and smooth jazz with just a hint of tropical breeze thrown in. From the title track, (which makes you move) to [on some CD's] the last track, "Michele" (which, without words, makes your heart ache) and all of the tracks in between (in particular "St. Croix", "Hearts On Fire" w/Phillip Ingram and "Neon Nights") stories are told; some sad, some raucous, some tell of love lost and some of happiness found. All of them are told from the heart, most without words. If you buy only one Richard Elliot CD, make it this one.

Real Pop Music Never Dies!!.......2002-03-07

I only just recently heard of this band from listening to a local college radio show, and was completely psyched to see it for sale on Amazon.com! This album not only reminds me of a time when pop music wasn't synonymous with trash, but it gives me hope for the future of musical and electronic expression overall. Like any great album, there's a good mix from track to track, in terms of style, tempo, mood, etc... I can't get it out of my head since I first heard "Triangle City" in the background on the radio - it's a vibe and a spin that just sticks with you throughout the day. The easiest way for me to describe this music (although how can one ever REALLY pin something like this down) is a modern-electro-dream-pop broadcast. This kind of music could appeal to anyone in the world, and this without being "vanilla" - quite the feat in my honest opinion... Whether you're into ethereal/shoegaze, techno/trance, or this new revival of 80's synth - it's all in here somewhere. What more can I say?? I think EVERYONE needs this album in their lives!!

Travelled a long way............2001-12-01

I would probably have never heard a CD like this if a friend hadn't sent it to me. It is easy listening and hums along nicely in my head for hours afterwards. I wish we had more guitar players like Jack Rootoo in Australia, the ghost track at the end says it all.

It's a wonderful combination of the surprisingly new and the wonderfully soothing ... my favorite accompaniment to Sunday brunch.
