"If you wanna hear me sing serious, buy an album," Dean Martin says early in this 70-minute disc, underlining his point by deliberately mangling the last word's pronunciation. Issued to catch the wave of Steven Soderbergh's remake of the Pack's romp, Ocean's 11, Live at the Sands is the second official issue of a Martin/Frank Sinatra/Sammy Davis Jr. show. This September 1963 date, though, is nimbler and funnier than the previous year's set preserved on The Summit in Concert. Some of the same jokes are told, but this Vegas jaunt adds at least one new running gag (Dino's brief rendition of "It's My Party"), and Sammy also gets a few racially tinged zingers off in return for those of his partners. Oh, and lest we forget, there's good music. Martin actually plays it straight on two Guys and Dolls duets with Sinatra, who also turns in a half-dozen strong performances on his own. Plenty of mystique is present, but Sands captures the trio hard at work as well. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
Rat Pack live CD.......2007-05-12
Best of the Best.......2007-03-08
How can you go wrong?.......2006-07-01
The set is tightly paced throughout and though a few jokes are dated a bit perhaps, I think they hold up well.
Sammy doesn't get to sing a whole lot and he gets picked on the most - some people may be offended and consider that racist. Just the opposite - the whole objective of those jokes was to POKE FUN and RIDICULE racism which back then was still more prevalent. How many doors were opened to black entertainers by the RAT PACK is obvious.......
But back to the show......this is probably the best set that they did together and the sound quality is AMAZING albeit a bit dry (lacking reverb) for my tastes. What was nice is that Sinatra sang a lot of songs which he had (at the time) recently recorded e.g. CALL ME IRRESPONSIBLE, PLEASE BE KIND etc. Keep in mind this was yrs before MY WAY and NEW YORK.
So put this CD on, close your eyes and let yourself be transported back into cool land!
It's your world Frank, I'm just livin' in it.".......2006-03-08
Always humorous, The Rat Pack's soooooo un-PC banter about women, drink, race, sexual orientation and religion doesn't suit the keepers of the morals nowadays (it even gets edited by Amazon.com when written into a review {...}!), but that is precisely what makes it priceless. Topical and yet still timely, The Rat Pack will shock and delight you with their "Ring-a-ding-ding," an unselfconscious world of bourbon, cocktail waitresses, cigarettes, tuxedos and smooth arrangements, all punctuated by man talk. No Clydes allowed.
Although some of this material is reprised from LIVE & SWINGIN' and other collections, the performance in LIVE AT THE SANDS has a vigor and sparkle that can only be gotten from the home-field advantage.
For anyone wishing to experience The Rat Pack at their best, LIVE AT THE SANDS is it, baby!
Enjoyable CD!.......2006-03-04

Live and Swingin' is undoubtedly for those who already own some of the guys' worthier recordings. Oh, but the guys? Frank, Dean, and Sammy (or, as Jackie Mason had it on The Simpsons, "the Candy Man!") For most anyone who cares, though, this is a must-buy item: a slightly edited version of the 1962 Villa Venice tapes along with a DVD that preserves a rarely seen, full-length serious/funny/anarchic Rat Pack performance from '65. (For sentimentalists' sake, it was taped on Tina Sinatra's 17th birthday; she makes a brief appearance onstage with the fellas.) All kidding aside, the trio makes with the serious singing - though perhaps those who came to hear Sammy get through an entire mini-set without interruption will want to go elsewhere, as his partners' shtick barely allows him to finish a line, much less a song. Sinatra aficionados will find the DVD indispensable, as he paws his way through a mellow version of "My Kind of Town" (benefit location "St. Louis"!) and "Fly Me to the Moon." --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

Timed to the release of the 2001 remake of the Sinatra-Martin-Davis anti-classic Ocean's 11, this 18-track compendium serves as less a best-of than an introduction to the high-living nightclub ethos the Rat Pack embodied. Along with some true knockouts, mostly from Frank's catalog, Eee-O 11's mostly beltingly upbeat tracks also include the impossibly corny (a "When You're Smiling" that seems to be putting Dino himself to sleep) and a couple of straitjacketed studio takes on the Pack's onstage antics (both Sammy duets). Handily, 11 culls one of the original movie's few high points--the rousing Davis blues that provides this disc's title--for a closer. Those drawn in by the newer flick will find this a welcome package, as will swingin' initiates looking for a road-trip CD soundtrack. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:

A great selection from Frank, Sammy and Dean. I would recommend this to anyone.
"In the meantime...Eee-oh, Eee-oh...Eee-oh-11...Eee-oh-11.".......2006-03-29
Standards from The Rat Pack catalogue round out most of this disc, topped by Sammy Davis Jr.'s beautiful blues rendition of the original OCEAN'S ELEVEN theme song. Enjoy!
So put the top down and go cruising. It's a cool day inside, pallie.

A Real "Best Of" Package.......2004-07-21
Even more fun are two duets, "Sam's Song," and "Me and My Shadow" on the CD featuring Sammy and Dean and Frank and Sammy. These are a lot of fun to listen to. The musical repoire between these guys is pure magic.
This isn't one of the live discs - for one of those, check out "Rat Pack Live at the Sands" - but rather, a collection of studio material. But they're nice selections, 18 songs in all, and the CD flows. In fact, the ones they've chosen are particularly appropriate, as most of the songs are favorites of the Rat Pack - the ones they performed in their legendary shows.
Even if you already own a lot of Dean, Frank, and Sammy music, this is a nice collection to have.
Sitting on Top of the World.......2004-06-24
Dean Martin is singin' "Ain't That A Kick in A Head", "Volare", "When You're Smiling", "You're Nobody 'Til Somebody Loves You", "Sittin' On Top Of The World" and helping Sammy on "Sam's Song".
Sammy Davis Jr. is singin' "Too Close For Comfort", "A Lot Of Livin' To Do", "The Birth Of The Blues" and "Eee-O Eleven" and two previously mentioned duets.
The collection is great, sound too. So, Swing This, Baby!

Product Description
Singer, dancer, actress; stage, screen, television: Joey Heatherton is a multi-faceted jewel of a performer. She first came into public view right at the end of the Fifties, when she joined the Broadway cast of The Sound Of Music. In the Sixties, she was on television all the time. Route 66. I Spy. Mr. Novak. The Virginian. It Takes A Thief. Hullabaloo. The Dean Martin Show. And of course, all those Bob Hope USO tours. She also hit the big screen with the likes of Bette Davis, Susan Hayward, Richard Chamberlain, and Troy Donahue. She also recorded singles in the Sixties for Decca and Coral Records, platters that frequently trade in the three-figure range on eBay when they show up. And if you find one with a picture sleeve... forget it. Her first album came for MGM in 1972, and it is re-released here in its entirety, with covers of Patsy Clines Crazy and the Beach Boys God Only Knows among its 10 tracks. We have augmented this recording with those rare early singles and more, for a total of 21 songs. Joey has been involved with the project from its inception, right up to choosing the cover shots. All the photography in the package, by the way, is by noted lensman Harry Langdon. The record was remastered by Gavin Lurssen of The Mastering Lab in 2004 from the original master tapes, and it sounds as good as it looks.Customer Reviews:

Nostalgic but still good.......2007-05-30
However she has a great voice and for those of us aging fans that remember her USO days and/or her Playboy Magazine appearance it is still worth having. It's on my MP-3 player with the rest of my music collection and I still enjoy hearing her. Now if I could just fit back into my old uniform the nostaliga experience would be complete!

Boys Night Out suggests the accompaniment to a PG-13-rated bachelor party, with an implied narrative arc and a stack of appreciative tunes about, er, dames. Frank, Dean and Sammy are heard mostly in solo settings, but the upbeat mood and brassy arrangements make for a cohesive Three Musketeers atmosphere. The 19-track disc offers some real nuggets for Sinatra fans (the little-heard near-title track, two visits to Guys and Dolls from the Reprise Repertory Theater set on which the Rat Pack's leader took the Nathan Detroit role he'd lost to Marlon Brando on film), while bearing reminders of how one-of-a-kind each of his two pals sounded. Listeners who are planning on staying in for the evening will also dig this thoughtfully compiled album. --Rickey WrightCustomer Reviews:
Fun, Upbeat, Good Time, just like a Boys Night Out........2007-07-10
Sammy, Frank and Dean could REALLY sell a song--and that's no small feat !!!.......2007-06-19
The CD track set opens with the peppy "Here Goes" performed by Frank Sinatra. The arrangement moves at a great tempo and the horns are well used for "Here Goes." Frank's breezy and flashy delivery sparkles like gold and his voice is in excellent form, too. Sammy Davis also performs one of his signature songs entitled "Yes I Can." "Yes I Can" is semi-autobiographical; Sammy sings of how he believes that he can "go all the way" in his career as a professional entertainer. The piano, horns and drums help the melody move along with drama and flair; and Sammy plays with the tempo of his vocals to accomplish some great vocal gymnastics.
"We Open In Venice" is a playful tune about Frank, Dean and Sammy embarking on a tour of Italy; they harmonize well and their verbal interjections create a sense that they improvised this number although they probably practiced "We Open In Venice" until they got it just right. Another playful tune is Frank Sinatra's rendition of "Ol' MacDonald." Frank changes most of the nursery rhyme lyrics to make it a song about how he loves his woman; and this approach works very well. Love those chimes on "Ol' MacDonald," too!
Sammy Davis, Jr. comes back to sing a more traditional ballad with "There Is Nothin' Like A Dame" from South Pacific. Sammy sings this to perfection and the musical arrangement uses the horns and percussion well. Sammy, being Sammy, just can't resist playing with some of the lyrics and the tempo--and this boosts the quality of "There Is Nothin' Like A Dame."
Other gems on this CD include "Guys And Dolls" sung by Dean Martin and Frank Sinatra; they deliver this number with panache and masculine sensitivity. "Something's Gotta Give" features Sammy Davis, Jr. outdoing even himself as he delivers this without a superfluous note. His masculine warmth and energy render "Something's Gotta Give" an infectiously catchy number. Great! Frank performs "Just One Of Those Things" with passion, sensitivity and a worship of a love affair that stuns me with its high quality control.
The CD ends with a reprise of "Guys And Dolls" sung by Frank and Dean once again. Although many years have passed since this recording was made, the lyrics about men doing things to impress their women remain completely true to this day. Awesome!
The liner notes feature photos of Sammy, Frank and Dean with a blue hue to them; and there are a few quotes each provided about themselves and their work together. It's very sweet; but I would have liked an essay to be included in the liner notes. However, this is a minor disappointment.
Sammy Davis, Jr., Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin will remain three of the greatest entertainers that ever lived; and I doubt we'll ever see another group quite like them. They sang their hearts out, all the while making it seem so easy although we know it really wasn't. I highly recommend this CD for their fans; and fans of "The Rat Pack" will love this CD forever!
Enjoy!

Just as irony is being pronounced dead, along comes this boozy holiday compilation to suggest that rumors of its demise may be premature. Given the culture's simmering lounge mania, this collection (with its cheesy homage/rip-off Oceans 11 art direction) may be belated--but hey, punctuality was never these swingin' cats' bag, Jack. The novelty of having three of the 20th century's most notorious sinners belt, whoop, and sing the praises of sleigh bells, roasting chestnuts, and the virgin birth would be enough to recommend this dizzy, 21-track delight, but there's actually some rewarding pop archaeology here as well. Two of the best tracks--Sammy Davis's ring-a-ding-ding romp through "Jingle Bells" and Dino's dreamy "Peace on Earth/Silent Night"--hail from a vintage, ultra-rare Reprise sampler. Sammy's typically over-the-top "Christmastime All Over the World" and Nat Cole tribute, "The Christmas Song," also make their CD debut. Dino's holiday TV specials yield more unreleased rarities: Sinatra-Martin duets of the loopy "Marshmallow World" and a touchingly tipsy take on "Auld Lang Syne" that suggests the boys have shared more than one cup of kindness. --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

The songs are solid as are the arrangements. What this album lacks is cohesiveness of moods. If you like variety, this album is great. If you're looking for a certain mood (e.g mellow fireplace etc.), then perhaps get a CD of one individual artist or even some of Nat King Cole's.
But overall, I liked this one and you can't go wrong on it. I prefer Dean's tunes on here the best as his warm voice is most suited to Christmas songs.

I drive along and this CD has me singing and laughing and it puts me in such a glorious mood! I wish they were still around as I would be in line at the Sands for a chance to see them.
Seperately Sammy, Frank and Deano are devine, superb, delicous. But together they are enchanting! You'll be so happy you bought this even if you've never even heard a single song by any of these three.
