About the Artist
The Bill Welch Band is a six-member group, which originates from Rochester NY. The band has been evolving for the last five years and has successfully gathered in top notch experienced players to create their own special blend of original music. In a single performance you will hear a wide variety of influences including folk, jazz,R&B, gospel, rock and Latin rhythms. Bill Welch and the group spend a lot of time sharing their talents to support the charities they care about. In the fall of 1999 they collaborated with Lou Gramm of Foreigner at a charity fundraiser for Dimitri House, a local homeless shelter. This concert was a huge success, raising thousands of dollars, and gave the band a chance to play with a colleague who has achieved international success.

Their debut release, At The Water's Edge, is slated for public release on October 15, 2000. A portion of the CD proceeds is donated to charity.

A century of British art songs to delight those who love them.......2006-06-26

These 53 songs have been collected by Naxos from their extensive acquisitions from Collins Classics, and perhaps other British sources now out of business. There's a steady cottage industry, year after year, producing the typical English art song, which is usually based on folk songs, but even in more modern idioms is profuondly conservative and nostaligic. Half these songs, not to mention half the composers, are totally unknown to American audiences, but the familiar names of Vaughan Williams and Britten represent high quality, and the lesser lights, such as Warlock and Quilter, are mainstays in this repertoire.

I'd challenge all but the most addicted listener to make it through more than ten songs at a sitting, and many of these pieces are tepid, offering comfort rather than inspiration. The singers are among the best, but Graham Johnson and Steuart Beford, who do most of the accompaniments, are lackluster. I know that won't be a popular comment, yet if you compare any of these songs with rendiitons done by Janet Baker, John Shirley-quirk, and most recently Bryn Terfel and Ian Bostridge, you immediately notice how much more intensity and drama is pesent than htis colleciton reveals.

Great CD.......2001-05-27

Generally, I shy away from "Christian" pop music, but I make an exception for the Bill Welch Band (I happen to know the guys, and have opened for a show of theirs). While the music of many Christian pop groups sounds forced and inauthentic to me, these guys' work is an undiluted look at who they are and what they believe. They also take a lot of time and care to make sure that the music they play is pure, is direct, and holds together. The band's members have some hard experience in the trenches of jazz, classical, blues, latin, R&B, and world music, and it really shows.

However, the best experience of their music is a live show.

Inspirational!.......2001-03-05

I know Bill, his wife Kathy and his brother Fred, from high school and have always been interested in Bill's music. When I heard that the band was doing a live performance, I knew I must go see it. I was caught off guard by the Christian beliefs that are very apparent in the lyrics and yet I welcomed the message whole-heartedly. I was moved by the music immediately and could not stop my foot from tapping, my hands from clapping, or somehow moving to the music. The songs are motivational and insprirational, not only in their lyrics but also in the music. The harmonies and rhythms are a wonderful combination of many different styles of music that have been successfully blended together to create a unique and awsome collection of songs. I bought the CD after the first half of the show, without even hearing all the songs, and now I listen to it almost every day. The lyrics speak to me and situations that occur in my life, while the music is up-lifting and yet soothing. Listening to 'At the Water's Edge' always improves my mood and it has become one of the favorite CDs in my collection. I can hardly wait for the next release. I am so happy for Bill, and everyone involved in the band, that the years of hard work have paid off with such extraordinary results!

Great Band, Great CD.......2001-02-09

This would be a welcome addition to many music fans' collections. It seems to span several different categories, including jazz and easy-listening rock without ever being confined to one. A sorely-needed, positive message is the only common thread.

The music encompasses many different styles, yet it has a top-notch "feel" in all areas. The band honors Bill's music and lyrics well, the production is perfect, and Bill tops it off with soulful, heartfelt vocals. It's all good.

I'm looking forward to future releases.

A Breath of Fresh Spring Air.......2001-01-08

That is the best way to describe the music of the Bill Welch Band. Having heard one of their songs being played on a local jazz/blues station I was smart enough to go and hear them in concert. I had no idea that they were going to play music with a heavy emphasis on their Christian beliefs. As a Unitarian that might have kept me away. All I can say is that I was blown away by their intense talent and spirit. They took me totally by surprise and I am now a huge fan. Their cd is top notch and would be a super addition to anyone's collection.

Let me explain the title of this review, since it probably has quite a few people out there scratching their heads. I am a Fairport High School Alumnus, and I played in the FHS Jazz bands under the direction of Mr. Bill "T" Tiberio, prominantly featured on the Bill Welch Band's CD. That, incidentally, is how I found out about and bought the CD. About the CD: I can sum it up in only a few words: Best coupla bucks I ever spent. The Bill Welch Band has a fantastic sound. The whole thing is clean, beautiful, and has some great music (believe me, I'm a music major!). Not to mention the message is positive, which can be tough to find these days. And, as is customary whenever these guys break out the instruments, you can tell they really know their stuff. I'm seriously looking forward to the next release! Hope all of you out there enjoy this as much as I did.

A great cd.......2007-05-03

This CD is a great one. The song "Let the healing begin" is so powerful and moving it can be used in anything from a fund raiser for medical patients all the way to a worship song in a church service. Brenda's musical skill shines through not only in her smooth as silk vocals, but also in her careful choice of instrumental orchestration. The quality continues on throughout the entire cd, from song to song.

One time I was ministering to someone who had just lost a relative (I am a pastor), and I was able to use the song "Let the healing begin" to touch her spirit. He wept and was deeply encouraged.

I'm not the only one who thinks she's a great musician/singer/songwriter. NBC has used her stuff on more than one of their TV shows. In my opinion Brenda's music is better than the typical music used on TV shows. I'm sure the script writers wish she had more cd's out than she does, because her stuff is simply wonderful.

I've seen Brenda sing in front of all kinds of audiences. More than once I've seen women suddenly burst into tears while she was singing. Her music is soothing and moving.

You will listen to these songs over and over through the years. I recommend At the Water's Edge as a five star cd.

Beautiful Worship.......2005-07-12

If anyone is looking for the type of Beautiful music you can close your eyes and worship the Lord to, this is it. Brenda has one of the most pure worshipful voices I have ever heard. I would encourage anyone who loves the kind of music that seems to bring you right to the heart of the Lord to purchase this CD.

I Love This CD!.......2001-11-26

I have been a fan of Brenda's for many years now. Her first CD, The Road Home, has been a favorite, but this new release, "At The Water's Edge," propells her to a new level. I can't stop listening to her songs about friendship, love and healing. I find myself moved to tears sometimes, as well as being uplifted. This will stand the test of time as a true classic from Brenda Harp.
