Husband and wife duo Dividing the Plunder make astonishing impact with a brave, name-defying project. The Ordinary, produced by Mitch Dane (Randall Goodgame) utilizes the talents of Steve Mason (Jars of Clay) and Matt Slocum (Sixpence None the Richer). Most remarkable though are the superb, alternating female-male voices ascending and bowing in flawless harmony.

Fifteen-year-old Jordan Pruitt has the power to reverse charges of fogyism in households across America: The songs on No Ordinary Girl skew heavily teen-ward (check song titles like "Miss Popularity" and "Who Likes Who"), but whether you wear bifocals or a retainer, she'll reel you in--before you know it you, too, could be singing about how you want a cellphone and the keys to the Mercedes (see "Teenager"). Pruitt made a name for herself prior to No Ordinary Girl with two singles; "Outside Looking In" and "Jump to the Rhythm," both included here, burned up the original soundtracks to two Disney Channel movies. What separates her from the mouse-ears-wearing pack, though, is genuine promise. Pruitt's is a stylish voice--creamy and sweet and a little quirky. It serves her exceptionally well on these featherweight songs, not one of which won't be relatable to anyone who has ever sought refuge from the horrors of high school in a pop song. More important, it's suited for weightier material--MySpace subscribers may claim Pruitt as their talented mascot for now, but don't be surprised if she's belting anthems for minivan drivers a few albums down the line. --Tammy La GorceCustomer Reviews:

Don't be too quick to bash her, she's good.......2007-06-10

Positive or negative review: A little bit of both but mostly positive
I don't watch Disney Channel as much as I used to, but I've been watching it enough to know that they have high hopes for this girl. Within just a couple of months, her singles "Outside Looking in", "We Are Family" (a cover of the Sister Sledge hit ), and "Jump to the Rhythm" were airing during the commercial breaks. It grabbed people's attention and got them saying "Who is this girl", "She's pretty good", and "Where can I get these songs". Then POOF, out of nowhere comes this album to save us all from buying a bunch of Disney soundtracks. I must say that this is an EXCELLENT marketing strategy to draw attention to Disney Channel's newest big moneymaker (though I doubt that miss Pruitt will be seeing a good sum of that money. Disney is good for getting recognized but otherwise extremely cheap), no wonder the album went gold (or so I've heard).
Now, let me just say this before anyone jumps to any conclusions. This girl CAN sing. And after listening to this CD, her vocal styling instantly reminded me of one particular artist. Natasha Bedingfield. Yes I know it sounds ridiculous but just listen. The way she vocally adlibs with her "ohs" and "whoahs" , and becomes lyrically creative with her songwriting is obviously reminiscent of a young Natasha. Upon a second listen there were also a few hints of Stacie Orrico, and in couple of the ballads (such as "Outside Looking in" and "Waiting for You") she had a few "Aly and AJ" moments.
There is no doubt that she's good. However, sometimes the way she articulates when she's singing, you have trouble understanding exactly what she's saying ("No Ordinary Girl", "Who Likes Who")
Lyrically...well, it depends on how you look at it and of course personal taste. Most of the songs were co-written by Jordan herself and all based on her life experiences which I don't find hard to believe after hearing tracks such as "Teenager" and "Who Likes Who". While these songs are cute and catchy, someone my age just can't help but cringe just a bit. And then there's also "My Reality" which is a great song that preaches good morals but it all comes across as a bit too... well, PREACHY. Not to mention corny and pure and sweet enough to give you a sugar rush (this is what I like to call Corn Syrup). But hey that's just me.
But are also a few tracks on here that are quite impressive and show that she has a certain degree of talent that is beyond her years (but not by very far). This is shown in songs such as "Outside Looking in", "Waiting For You", "Later", and "When I Pretend". ("Miss Popularity" and "over It" fall somewhere in between.)
The ballads are definitely the shining moments on this album. They are fairly moving and clearly have a certain amount of emotion put into them. And then there's "Jump to The Rhythm" which is clearly a brilliant song (and not written by Jordan Pruitt) and could easily be a minor hit. Plus the bonus track "Whatever" (only available on Amazon.com as far as I know) which is also good and in my opinion worthy of being much more than just a bonus track.
As for "We are Family", well for one thing it's been redone so many times that it comes across as a bit bland but her version is fairly original. But of course it depends on personal taste. Half of her listeners will say that she butchered it while the other half will praise her for making it her own.
Overall it's good. The material is very relative though somewhat childish. It has it's moments, but for what it is (which is an enjoyable CD directed mainly at kids ages 9-14) it's really great. Just a little too sugary sweet and easily outgrown for my taste. She definitely gets points for originality and writing what she knows as opposed to being a poser. I definitely look forward to seeing how she matures as an artist. She clearly has a lot of potential and this is a good start for her. Hopefully in the near future she'll break away from Disney and start doing her own thing.

Kristin Chenoweth won a Tony for the supporting role of Sally Brown in the 1999 revival of You're a Good Man, Charlie Brown, made a memorably vampy Lily in the 1999 television film of Annie, and had an NBC sitcom created for her, Kristin! Now she grabs the spotlight in Let Yourself Go, her first solo recording. She mixes torchy standards ("My Funny Valentine," "How Long Has This Been Going On?") with Faith Prince-style sauciness ("If"), gets to show off her operatic and scat chops in the miniplay "The Girl in 14G," and shares a light duet with Jason Alexander (reviving his musical theater career post-Seinfeld). Perhaps her "Stranger Here Myself" isn't the weightiest you've ever heard, but this is an enjoyable album with a good deal of old-fashioned class, expertly accompanied by Rob Fisher and the Coffee Club Orchestra. --David HoriuchiCustomer Reviews:

Many know Georgia Stitt as the vocal coach on the primetime reality series Grease: You're the One That I Want, but she has a thriving "side" business as an arranger, conductor, musical director, pianist and songwriter. It's the latter aspect that gets showcased on this album, in which Stitt's songs are performed by a collection of topnotch Broadway pros. The overall mood is one of thoughtful longing, emphasized by largely acoustic arrangements, mostly by either Stitt or her husband, Jason Robert Brown (The Last 5 Years). While perfectly crafted, the songs quickly blend into each other; their share a certain polite, "beige" elegance that also lacks inner fire. This makes the tracks breaking from that mold stand out even more: Jenn Colella brings a nice twang to the rollicking "Big Wings;" Faith Prince sounds positively delighted on the jaunty "I Get to Show You the Ocean;" and Kelli O'Hara demonstrates why she's one of the finest interpreters on Broadway on the sepia-tinted "Perfect Summer," which sometimes sounds like something cut from a 1940s musical (Stitt herself plays the piano on all three songs). --Elisabeth VincentelliDescription
THIS ORDINARY THURSDAY, the extraordinary debut album of songs by Georgia Stitt, features vocals by some of Broadway's brightest stars, including Sara Ramirez (Tony Award-winner for Spamalot, currently starring on TV's Grey's Anatomy), Faith Prince (Tony Award-winner for Guys and Dolls), Susan Egan (Broadway's original Belle in Beauty and the Beast), Kelli O'Hara (Tony nominee for Pajama Game, opposite Harry Connick), and Matthew Morrison (Tony nominee for Light in the Piazza). Seen by millions each week as the vocal coach on NBC's primetime series, GREASE: You're the One That I Want, Georgia Stitt is known as a composer-lyricist with a style and sensibility all her own. Clever, sophisticated, and memorably melodic, THIS ORDINARY THURSDAY is one debut album not to be missed.Customer Reviews:

The highlight of this CD, for me, is Faith Prince's rendition of "I Get to Show You the Ocean." If you've any love of Broadway at all, BUY THIS CD!

If the American pop culture profile of French composer-jazz pianist Michel Legrand doesn't seem what it once was, don't be misled: his European indie film scores continue six decades on, now numbering nearly 200. But Legrand's most beloved work remains the lovely, evocative themes he created in the '60s and '70s, including "I Will Wait for You" from The Umbrellas of Cherbourg, The Thomas Crown Affair's "Windmills of Your Mind," the theme from Summer of '42, and his work on Barbra Streisand's Yentl. This collection marks Legrand's first solo piano recordings, presenting those and other film score highlights in spontaneously improvised performances that offer a glimpse of Legrand's musical soul. If, as in "Windmills," his enthusiasm gets the best of him and he occasionally lapses into flights of melodramatic pianistic self-parody, there are more than enough sublime moments here to compensate, especially on lesser-known songs like Best Friends' "How Do You Keep the Music Playing?," "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?" from The Happy Ending, and Brian's Song's "Hands of Time." --Jerry McCulleyCustomer Reviews:

Sunlight on his fingertips.......2005-08-10
The very bright talent of Michele Legrand you can feel especially when Maestro is playing piano himself.
I heard some orchestra performance of Legrand before, that was good, but I was still thinking about him just like about pop music composer.
Now I think different - he is Genius!
all the stars you've got.......2005-01-29
Before commenting on this rewarding disc, a few words about Legrand himself:
Is there a better songwriter or a more versatile all-around musican alive today? I think you have to go back to people like Gershwin and Billy Strayhorn to find a rough parallel to Legrand's multifaceted, genre-crossing genius. A pupil of Nadia Boulanger (who studied with Faure and taught many important American composers, including Aaron Copland and Philip Glass), Legrand is an heir of the great French tradition of music--but one who has chosen to express himself through popular songs, film scores, and jazz. He possesses that rare combination of an absolutely rigorous theoretical knowledge of music and an intuitive, spontaneous instinct for both melody and improvisation. He combines exquisite refinement with a popular touch, a need to communicate directly with all who love music. To me, his work represents the most perfect expression of such typically French traits as lightness, insouciance, wit, melodic charm, and direct emotional expression since Poulenc.
Here you'll find many of Legrand's signature songs--"I Will Wait for You," "The Windmills of Your Mind," "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?," "The Hands of Time," "You Must Believe in Spring," etc.--reharmonized and enriched in stunningly beautiful solo recreations. Those unfamiliar with Legrand's pianistic abilities will probably be surprised by what they hear, for he's no part-time piano tickler. He can easily hold his own in the company of the best modern jazz pianists. He has a wonderfully refined touch that is incapable of making a harsh sound and a profusive sense of fantasy that keeps you constantly guessing as to where the music will go next. Yet you always feel satisfied when you find out, because Legrand possesses a composer's comprehension of harmony and form. And his own style is in no way compromised by an occasional nod here and there toward Bill Evans, Erroll Garner, Rachmaninoff, and so on. (Please: disregard the Amazon reviewer's remark about "flights of melodramatic pianistic self-parody." It's called a stride chorus, and it's just one example of Legrand's surprising way of recasting these songs--and of his encyclopedic command of jazz styles.)
This disc represents the essence of Legrand. It really should have been recorded a long time ago, but the fact that it has captured his undiminished abilities as he enters his twilight years lends it an added poignance--a sense of "just in time!"--that makes it all the sweeter. If you're already a Legrand fan, it should be a self-recommending treasure, and if you're a fan of great piano playing or of sophisticated jazz treatments of great songs, odds are you'll find this a very rewarding disc indeed. For me, the highlight is this version of "What Are You Doing the Rest of Your Life?" in which every note seems inevitable--not at all an easy thing to make happen in an improvisation.
Miles Davis once said of a Duke Ellington recording, "Give that one all the stars you've got." That's the way I feel about this disc, and I thought that phrase "all the stars you've got" was appropriate because it almost sounds like the title of a Legrand song.
Maestro Legrand , at last !.......2004-10-10
From a summer of 42 , The windmills of your mind (The Thomas crown afair) , what are you doing the rest of your life or the romantic Umbrellas of Cherbourg ; all those unforgettable themes are played in this album for piano solo in the real intimacy between him and the listener .
Legrand is the golden master of soundtracks in France and one of the top in the world . He owns that inner vision to catch the spirit of every movie he accompains . He composes music as he was a real director movie . The psychological concerns , the romantic efluvies and the precise and lyrical atmosphere , with that touch of class, artistic elegance and sublime eloquency .
Think also in the important recordings with Miles Davis . That issue will give you the size of that artist and anothe point to remark . In 1954 , Legrand made a golden jewel : I lvoe Paris (See my review) that has become through the years in the most famous and the best album of instrumental music ever recorded .
What other background do you need to acquire this gem ?
For Jazz piano purest... Only!.......2002-09-07
graceful tones and notes, that create memories of a certain
time and place in each of our own lives.
When accompaned with great orchestration Its wonderful. When done in a jazz piano style, its not as good. Not to take anyting away from the talents of Mr Legrand as a pianist. Its just that like hearing a lusher, grander version of his music. So if you like jazz piano music, and Michele Legrand.
Then this is the cd for you!

Warren just plain rocks! Great voice, guitar & songs!.......2005-09-10
Yeah, this is a bit more straight ahead rock, not so much of the 20 minute improvs as in Gov't Mule, but they are all great songs, and with Warren Hayne's voice, guitar and writing, how can you go wrong?
I am a huge fan of Gov't Mule also, and I think anyone who can appreciate the incredible talent of Warren in that context will like this as well.
Some people always want an artist to make the same album over and over, can't deal with even slight changes. Too bad, they are missing out on a world of great music...
I'm waiting to be impressed.......2005-05-12
Someone please write this man some good songs and make him record them so we can enjoy his talent.
I love Warren Haynes but this should not have been released........2005-05-11
Not what you would expect and out of date.......2005-02-09
This CD is nothing like Haynes has done with the Allman Brothers or Gov't Mule. It is done in the hard rock style of the late seventies to mid-eighties. It reminds me of people like Ronnie Montrose (at his worst) or Sammy Hagar. He even has those screaming, coporate rock vocals. He sounds most like John Butcher or Mason Ruffner.
What is really amazing is how inept and boring the guitar solos are on this album. There is nothing innovative and interesting as he would play with his other bands (Allman Brothers, Gov't Mule, Phil Lesh, etc.).
What is also surprising is that this CD was produced by Chuck Leavel, who worked with the Allman Brothers, plays on Rolling Stones tours and headed the nice jazz/rock outfit, Sea Level.
Anyway, there is a reason why this CD is virtually unknown and hard to find.

For their second album, alt-country veterans Caitlin Cary, Lynn Blakey, and Tonya Lamm turned from North Carolina to England to join producers Neil Brockbank and Robert Trehern (who have worked with Nick Lowe and Van Morrison), as well as a clutch of guests including Lowe, Bill Kirchen, and Geraint Watkins, whose classy piano carries their melodies. Neo-gospel opener "Drop Me Down," a Lou Ford cover, establishes a theme of spiritual and personal renewal, which unfolds through the album's serene, lightly-stringed sound. The singers take advantage of the space to build some of the most lush, intricate female harmonies since Emmylou, Dolly, and Linda formed Trio. Tempo can be a problem, however, turning languid and bleary midway through the album, with only "The Man of the People" (a jab at phony populism) and "If You Think That It's All Right" (a jazzy two-step take on an obscure Johnny Carver song) picking up the pace. All three singers contribute original tunes, and all three tend to strain after poetic effect. Love is compared to 400 flamingos preening in the water, while a broken heart bleeds red as a red barn. And while the album may not contain the Chicas' strongest songs, it expertly expands their sound via shades of soul and British folk-rock into temperate country-pop atmospheres. --Roy KastenCustomer Reviews:
Americana from the other side of the ocean.......2006-05-19
El country solo aparece en "The Man Of The People", y en la pegadiza "If You Think That It's All Right" de Johnny Carver.
Coming to a town near you soon..........2006-04-14
This is a terrific recording, but Tres Chicas should be seen live if at all possible.
Perfect Harmonies.......2006-03-31
There are several tracks--I'd say especially 2 "Stone Love Song" and 7 "Only Broken"--that have a refreshing jazz feel to them. The composition and the upbeat additions from a long list of notable contributing musicians kick it up a notch, keeping the album from becoming too heavy and somber.
Overall though, Bloom, Red & the Ordinary Girl reflects a folk tradition that is so often lost by modern singer/songwriters. If you feel distraught over the loss of the art of folk music that was so prevalent in the 60's and 70's, this release will renew your faith. I love both the first and this new album, for their respective inimitable qualities.
Lyrically, this album seems to have been written during a time of reflection and loss, heartbreak and personal inwardly-directed friction. It's not depressing; don't get me wrong--these are love songs that convey deep-rooted emotions that we all struggle to convey during the hard times, they're the reasons that it just sometimes doesn't work out, and reflection on the different stages of relationships that everyone has endured, whether you're 20 or 80. I sense a lot less fun, hope and attitude on Bloom, Red & the Ordinary Girl and more reflection, wistfulness and hurt-welcome to Life and Love 201. However, they leave us with the upbeat "If You Think It's All Right" perfected by the inclusion of my favorite instrument, the phenomenal pedal steel...as if to say that you can reflect and overanalyze all you want, but hey, if it's okay with you, it's okay with me and let's go take a walk and enjoy each other. Perhaps this is now a Chicas tradition to wake us dreamers up at the end of an emotional ride as they did with "Take the Devil Out of Me" on their first release.
