2007 Digitally Remastered Edition of Two Top 30 Albums from the Former Loggins and Messina Singer that were Released 1977 and 1978 on Two CD'S, Including New Liner Notes. "Celebrate Me Home" was Loggins' Solo Debut was Produced by Phil Ramone and Bob James. He Stretched his Vocal Style to Go for More of an Mor/Easy Jazz Sound and Had a Moderate Hit with the Song "i Believe in Love", Composed with Marilyn and Alan Bergman. "Nightwatch" was Produced by Bob James and Hit Big on the Pop Charts, Thanks to the Single "Whenever I Call You Friend", a Duet with the Red Hot Stevie Nicks of Fleetwood Mac. Loggins Had also Collaborated with Pal Michael Mcdonald (Who Had Just Joined the Doobie Brothers) and Produced the Original "What a Fool Believes" and Covered Billy Joe Royal's "Down in the Boondocks".

Album Description

Even after ten years, over a thousand gigs and 500,000 miles of touring as a married, music-making couple, singer-guitarists Pete and Maura Kennedy haven't killed each other. The duo savors each instant in life and in each other's company, and it shows in their music. The Kennedys have been charming audiences and critics for a decade with their exuberant mixture of folk, rock, country, pop and secular gospel, a philosophical depth in their lyrics, and joyful, kinetic performances and recordings.

"Half a Million Miles," The Kennedys' 8th CD, presents ten sparkling roots-pop originals, plus two complementary covers, infused with their "live in the moment" outlook. The Kennedys' constant touring, coupled with the influence of such writers as Joseph Campbell, Aldous Huxley, and Eckhart Tolle, has taught them about "the eternal now." With eyes wide open, they discover wisdom and musical inspiration everywhere. A mysterious greeting at their local East Village sushi bar is transformed into the buoyant "Namaste" (translation: "The divine in me recognizes the divine in you"). A neighborhood merchant becomes "9th Street Billy, the guru of East Side soul" in a lilting bossa nova. "Live" and "Listen" are respectively forceful and delicate reminders to stop and smell the roses.

While the original songs on "Half a Million Miles" all bear references to the Buddhist outlook of openness and enlightenment, Pete calls the two cover versions - Richard Thompson's wrenching "How Will I Ever Be Simple Again?" and Bob Dylan's "Chimes of Freedom" - "political, peacenik songs," that pay attention to current events.

Maura's lead vocals are sweet and often girlishly playful while displaying a plaintive edge of experience, and Pete's harmonies add a second coating of melodic delight. And the guitars! While Maura provides rhythm guitar grooves, Pete lays down layers of chiming acoustic and 12-string leads (and all other instruments on the CD).

Ear candy and brain food are an irresistible combination on "Half a Million Miles," where The Everly Brothers meet Emerson, The Byrds meets Buddha, and everyone gets along just fine. Thanks to WFUV in NY, I went to their concert at the Rubin Museum and discovered a duo with a beautiful sound. Their folk music is fused with all sorts of cultural traditions and an all-inclusive brand of spirituality. For me, Maura's voice and Pete's guitar are as good as any I can recall, and their energy is infectious.

If you haven't been blinded by patriotism, wading through the glut of flag-waving duds flooding record bins will leave you squinty-eyed, which is why Disney's Celebrate America!, despite its slightly ham-handed intro track, is worth celebrating. The swelling, Old Glory standards are here--"America the Beautiful" by Plus One and updated to weaken the knees of boy-band swooners; "America," issued with hats-off gusto by Lee Greenwood; and perennial Pete Seeger fave "This Land Is Your Land" among them--plus a handful of tracks that stretch, via their sentiments, to insinuate themselves into the red, white, and blue state of mind. Eva Cassidy's soul-scraping rendition of Curtis Mayfield's "People Get Ready" sounds right at home here, as do Bill Withers's "Lean on Me," Nita Whitaker's "Climb Every Mountain," and Art Garfunkel's "Bridge over Troubled Water" (still, a caveat's in order--the live version's a clunker compared with the original). Though Barry Mann's title track commands a sober, sincere liftoff for this collection, it comes across more as cobbled together for commercial purposes than as heartfelt; its polar opposite is Willie Nelson's achingly gorgeous "American Tune," also included here. Once Kaci issues the final salute with "Star Spangled Banner," what seems most American about America! is its cross-genre approach: plant this musical melting pot in backyards across the country and at least a song or two will grow on everybody. --Tammy La Gorce

I did indeed find this CD celebratory and spirit lifting. However, it's important to note up front in the initial album description, the x-tra effort required in acquiring the words and choreography, and extra cost, if you do not have a computer, or are not computer literate. I believe the promotion of this CD would be better served, if at least the words were included in the CD pamphlet insert, since most are interested in the words, and fewer interested in the choreography. For me, a trip to Kinko's was required to download both, although I was only interested in the words. If I were interested in the written choreography instructions, I would find them very difficult to follow. Again, I thoroughly enjoyed the music. R.Olson
