3 out of 5 stars AVERAGE BY COMPARISON.......2003-09-05

Somehow this 1986 compilation doesn't contain all my personal favourites from that year, but it's still great value for money and provides a fairly comprehensive view of the flavour of the charts. Besides, it also contains the re-release of a major classic from the 1960s, Marvin Gaye's timeless I Heard It Through The Grapevine. The great soul songs are Billy Ocean's When The Going Gets Tough, Robert Palmer?s Addicted To Love and James Brown's hypnotic Living In America. Another delightful classic from this year is Julian Cope's wonderful World Shut Your mouth. Synthpop was doing well in the shape of Human League, The Communards and Talk Talk, while Bowie was still hitting the charts, although Absolute Beginners is not one of his most memorable hits. After the breakup of Blondie, Debbie Harry did well with French Kissin' and other songs, whilst Kim Wilde was enjoying great success in the early 1980s with her brand of power pop and the singer-songwriter Chris De Burgh had his biggest hit with the unbearable Lady In Red. Although not my favourite album in the Now Music series of UK hits, this 1986 collection does contain some gems of the period.

3 out of 5 stars Not worth it........2002-07-28

It does include hits but it also includes songs that no one has ever heard of even back in 1986 such as "French Kissin' in the USA" by Debbie Harry which wasn't even a hi8t she didn't have another hit after Rapture. Anyways this collection is a not buy just buy a different collection.

4 out of 5 stars Just over the centrepoint of the '80's.......2001-05-05

It was a clever idea of the creators of the Now series just before the Summer of 1999 to release a selection of different music compilations from the last 20 years, and this one is the final one I had to buy to complete my collection.A lot of the songs on CD one soon fade from the memory, especially the Fine Young Cannibal's rather bland and uninspired cover of Elvis Presley's Suspicious Minds, but that just makes the songs on CD 2 more electrifying. My particular favourites are The Human League's haunting Human, and the stirring saxophone melody Down to Earth by Curiosity Killed the Cat.An interesting and memorable music selection of the year that saw Chynobel and Pat Phoenix's death.

5 out of 5 stars Now, That's What I Call Music, 1986.......1999-12-15

This cd is the bomb. Jermaine Stewart's song, ranks atop one of the best songs ever. It only took me two years to find. I recommend this to all people.
