About the Artist
Doug Fleming, Jr. is committed to creating and performing engaging music primarily for children ages one through seven-years that promotes movement, learning, and fun.

Music has always played a prominent role in Doug Fleming's life. He launched his professional music career early when, in fifth grade, he landed his first gig as lead guitarist in a local band, "The Peacemakers." Besides playing in and writing pop-style songs for Seattle-based bands throughout his youth, Fleming regularly participated in school events including the lead in "The Mikado" and a minor role in another Gilbert & Sullivan operetta, "H.M.S. Pinafore". As a student at University of California Santa Cruz, he began writing pop tunes in earnest. In the mid-1980's, he returned to his native Seattle where he continued to play guitar with regional groups, write music and pursue an early childhood education certificate and teaching credential.

In the early 1990's, Fleming landed a teaching position in Seattle's Head Start pogram. Inspired by the need to jazz up the curriculum, he began writing and performing music that taught the kids, while they had fun singing and dancing. His songs were a big hit. After almost a decade of teaching and writing tunes for his class, Fleming decided to take the next step and cut his first CD - "Little Square Wheels."

Doug has done it again!!.......2004-07-14

We've really been enjoying Doug's newest CD...all the songs on "In Our Circle" have catchy melodies. Just like the songs on Mr Fleming's two prior CD's, most of the tunes get everyone up and moving and expressing themselves...even some of the grown-ups!! And, as if that weren't enough, he teaches some important lessons in the process...like good manners. We can all use a refresher course in that!!
When Doug's first two CD's were released we bought one copy for the house and later realized we needed another CD for the car. This time we just ordered two from Amazon from the start and we're glad we did. Gotta go...there is shimmying, carpet surfing, bouncing and hopping to be done!! Thanks for another winner, Doug. You rock OUR world!!

This is one children's CD you can play in the car and actually ENJOY time and time again! The tracks are great - they send a really good message, and invite all passengers to sing along and bop to the tunes!
My 2 1/2 year old knows most of the words to "Baby, Won't you use good manners?", "In Our Circle", and "Bouncing, Hopping, Wiggling". Yesterday he picked up "The Wind is Laughing"!
I guess not so surprisingly I have found myself humming to "I Am Worm, I Am Strong" and "I'm the Engine on the Train" - long after I've left the car in its parking space at work.
This CD will be one you'll like from the get-go and will want to share with all of your kids' friends and parents!

My four year old and seven year old kids both love this CD. Flemming rolls together Beatles-inspired melodies, Byrds-like harmonies, Tom Petty's rock-n-roll edge and a sense of humor all his own to make music that will get everyone hopping and giggling. There are dancing tunes like "Shimmy, Shimmy, Shimmy," "Slither like a snake," and "Rug surfing" that'll have your kids twisting in every imaginable position. I especially liked "Baby won't you use good manners," a stomper which cracked me up while getting the important point across. There is also a tenderness to Flemming's music that will make you and your kids trust the humor and want to hear more. Doug Flemming's "In Our Circle" is a real find. Your kids will want to hear it over and over, and, here's the really good part: you'll actually like playing it for them.

My son's favorite music!.......2001-08-17

The "Little Square Wheels" CD continues to be my 3 year old son's favorite. He asks to listen to it again and again. He often sings songs from the CD like "Do Your Motion" and "Mr. Trapezoid, We Think You're Fine" spontaneously while he's playing. The songs have catchy tunes and are about things important to the preschool age set, like taking turns and learning shapes. Doug Fleming's music is great because adults enjoy listening to it as much as the children do. We have shared this music with many of my son's friends and cousins, and they have all enjoyed it also.

Kids' music parents can enjoy too!!.......2001-08-15

This CD is a "must have" for grandparents...and parents alike. At home it gets the little ones up and moving to the action songs, but it is also well suited to being played in the car, as the songs can be safely acted out from their carseats. Kids learn shapes like triangle, diamond, rectangle, oval and even the more sophisticated trapezoid ! "Elephante Marchando" even teaches a bit of Spanish. The tempos are lively and varied. Doug has succeeded in creating songs that kids thoroughly enjoy and adults won't mind having stuck in THEIR heads when the music stops. I especially like "Do Your Motion" which encourages children to be individuals and allows them to do whatever action THEY like best. And, with so much of our lives...whether you are young or old...being spent waiting in lines, Doug's song "Wait Your Turn" teaches a great lesson in patience. Then there is the title track "Little Square Wheels" getting us to think about the concept that square wheels cannot roll. I love every song on this CD. BOTTOM LINE: Buy this CD for every preschooler you know. I highly recommend it as a shower or baby gift. As a former educator, I am delighted when I find music that is fun but also teaches. I look forward to hearing more children's music from this artist.

Catchy tunes for the whole family!.......2001-08-14

Finally! A kid CD that even the grown-ups enjoy listening to over and over again on a long road trip! The music is clearly made for kids, but it's not "syrupy" like so many other kid CDs! The lyrics are a lot of fun, and the catchy style of the tunes is reminiscent of the Beatles. "Wait Your Turn" and "Mr. Trapezoid" are two of my favorites because they present positive messages for the kids in a fun way. Of course, the kids just can't sit still whenever they hear "Do Your Motion"!
