About the Artist
In 1962, David Marks, along with the 3 Wilson brothers and their cousin, Mike Love signed the Capitol Records contract as the musical group The Beach Boys. After playing on their first five albums, including such hits as "Surfin' Safari", "Surfin' USA", "Surfer Girl" "In My Room", Little Deuce Coupe, Shut Down and 409, Marks quit The Beach Boys at the height of their success. While his time in the band may have been short, the impact those early songs had on the legacy of the Beach Boys is undeniable. Next, David formed The Marksmen; they recorded a dozen tunes with Marks in the driver seats as songwriter, arranger and producer. In addition to 2 releases on A&M and one on Warner Brothers, The Marksmen toured extensively in CA, sharing the bill with such acts as Little Richard, Jan and Dean, and the Turtles. David also made his debut as a hired songwriter in 1964 when he copenned "Blue Roses, the B-side to the Ramona King hit, "You Say Pretty Words". As The Moon, David, Matt Moore and Larry Brown, recorded 2 albums for Imperial Records. They received tremendous critical acclaim on both their albums, Without Earth and The Moon. The Moon has a loyal under-ground following, especially after the 2002 first ever CD release of of the band. David spent the next 25 years playing various styles of guitar and writing songs and working as a session guitar player. He has formal classical training and has played in heavy metal hair bands and has played everything in between. It was during these years that David earned a repuation as one of the hottest guitar player in LA. In August 1997, David Marks returned to the Beach Boys as a full time touring memebr but was forced to leave after 2 years due to his battles with Hepatitis C. Since his diagnosis, David has become an advocate for the disease, participating in local media events around the Country to raise awareness and encouraging testing for Hepatitis C. In addition to the fret work he's known for, Marks plays piano and bass on Something Funny Goin' On. This CD is a must for Beach Boy fans as well as anyone who enjoys original guitar music.
