Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars The best husband wife duet in American music .......2006-06-05

Steve and Edye have sung together longer than any musical husband and wife duo that I can think of. I actually believe they are better singing together than each is as a soloist. They simply have a magic and warmth together , and give a sense of joy in their singing. They are best, in my opinion, in the upbeat songs .
They make music the listener can relax and enjoy with.

5 out of 5 stars A Bit Corny but Absolutely Delicious!.......2004-03-11

This combo cd recorded is absolutely is perfect for anyone who loves or even likes Steve & Eydie. All the songs are catchy, perky and delightful. Simply listening to this cd will make you happy. The sweetness of their youth and marriage is evident in every song. My husband, who is a die-hard "60's man (Dylan, Collins, Baez) even gets a charge out of it! Nothing beats Eydie's Applie Blossom Time!

5 out of 5 stars WOW! A retrospective that's sure to knock the socks off.......2000-10-18

Steve and Eydie do a marvelous job on yet another album. With all the best, and they are the best(!) hits of their still-going career, this album is not to be missed. Edie's voice lilts and soars while Steve provides a smooth and sweet compliment. This could be, and has been, the start of something very very big!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars A blessing for Steve and Eydie fans worldwide.......2007-02-04

Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme remain one of the greatest singing duos of the 20th century. This "two-fer" CD contains all twelve songs from their first LP entitled We Got Us as well as the numbers from another great LP entitled Eydie and Steve Sing The Golden Hits. Steve and Eydie complement each other beautifully regardless of whether or not they sing together simultaneously or if they take turns singing a duet. Their solo numbers astonish you with their terrific sensitivity as well. Their voices are vibrant, fresh and full of energy. This CD demonstrates their wonderful artistry.

The first twelve tracks on this CD are directly from their first LP entitled We Got Us. These songs joyfully proclaim the happiness of a young couple who experience the wonders of life together. The CD opens with the catchy and infectiously joyful "We Got Us;" the CD continues the same theme with great songs including "Side By Side;" "No Two People;" "Together Wherever We Go" and "This Could Be The Start Of Something."

Other romantic hits from the first twelve tracks include "Cheek To Cheek;" "Two Lost Souls" and the playful tune "Harmony." "I Remember It Well" is another romantic song that employs humor to charm the listener.

The strength of the musical arrangements will surprise you; there is a big band/swing feel to these songs which were arranged and produced by the great Don Costa. Excellent!

The CD continues with the twelve numbers from another LP by Steve and Eydie entitled Eydie and Steve Sing The Golden Hits. "I've Heard That Song Before" has a certain strength to complement its romantic quality; and the musical arrangement is beautiful. "I'll be With You In Apple Blossom Time" is another shimmering hit from a while back but Steve and Eydie sing it fresh here as if it were a brand new song. "Bei Mir Bist Du Schön" boasts another strong, upbeat melody with sublime lyrics.

Other great songs in this second twelve song stack include the beautiful "And The Angels Sing" delivered by Eydie; and Eydie bats out a particularly romantic rendition of "I Don't Want To Walk Without You." The somewhat melancholy "White Christmas" is performed flawlessly by Steve with a fantastic musical arrangement.

Indeed, the musical arrangements for the second track set boast the same strong big band/swing flavor that the first twelve songs offer. Don Costa arranged and produced these songs, too. The music highlights the same incredible sensitivity that Steve and Eydie display as they sing these awesome hits.

The CD ends with Steve and Eydie performing a duet of "Sentimental Journey." This song hints at the great journey you took with them as you listened to this impressive 24 track CD. "Sentimental Journey" beckons you to listen to this exceptional CD again and again!

The liner notes give the song credits as well as the liner notes for the two LPs presented here on a single CD. The cover artwork is excellent, too.

This CD is a blessing for Steve and Eydie fans and fans of classic pop vocals will love this CD.

5 out of 5 stars What memories!!.......2006-03-15

Mom got tears in her eyes as I cranked up these tunes while helping her unpack in her new home just 2 weeks ago! It's been 30+ years since we argued over who got to be "Eydie!"

The delivery of the product was on time, the packaging was done with care and the quality of the C.D. can't be beat. Thank You!! We are having a blast being together again, singing and dancing our way through unpacking, painting and housework!! I would order from this seller again & without hesitation.

5 out of 5 stars Forsake all others and get with Steve and Eydie!.......2004-12-10

This cd started me and my sweetie on our journey into SteveandEydieville. We haven't taken this out of our player for many months now (except to slip in "Blame It on the Bossa Nova"). After seeing their awesome discographies on Steve and Eydie's website, it looks like we have a treasure trove ahead of us. The duets on the first half of this cd give you a taste of the beautiful, humorous chemistry between them (We're still on a high from seeing these two live in concert...sell your blood if you have to, people). The second half includes the gorgeous songs "I Hear a Rhapsody" by Steve (whom I'll take over Sinatra any day) and "And the Angels Sing" by Eydie (you can get religion from this one). Definitely a desert island disc.

5 out of 5 stars A great jazz vocal set, with nice arrangements!!!.......2001-05-28

Steve & Eydie were singing Gershwin, Porter, and tin pan alley in the 50's while the rest of the world was listening to tacky kiddie pop artists like Elvis and Johnny Ray. Steve and eydie were keeping the popular American songbook alive along with Tony Bennett, Keely Smith, Carmen McRae and a few others. Though they are not as jazz oriented as Jackie & Roy(Jackie Cain & Roy Kral), on these two sets(originally Dot lp's) steve & Eydie are at their most jazz oriented. They swing through standards and lesser known gems. Both sets were arranged by Don Costa, who provides swinging and jazzy big band arrangements who also arranged Frank Sinatra's classic "Sinatra & Strings" for Reprise. This is one of their better cd re-issues even if it is a bootleg and it is recommended to both 50's pop vocal fans as well as jazz vocal collectors like myself. This is definatley one of the duos less "middle of the road" pop, and more jazz oriented sets, thanks to Costa's arrangements, and Gorme sound a little Sarah Vaughan/Keely Smith influenced, and Lawrance is as smooth sounding as ever. Recommended highly, especially to those who might think Steve and Eydie are not capable of singing jazz, here's the proof taht they are!!!

5 out of 5 stars Steve & Eydie, what a Duo for the ages!.......2000-06-13

This is a double CD on one disc with two great albums by a very talented couple! You won't hear much of this on the radio, so if you want to step back to the easy listening music of the 50s and 60s, just order this one! It will make your day!

5 out of 5 stars Steve and Eydie--it's a perfect match!!!.......2007-02-06

Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme remain one of the greatest singing duos of the 20th century. This CD contains ten songs from their LP entitled Eydie Gorme and Steve Lawrence Sing the Golden Hits.

The CD song stack starts off strong as Steve and Eydie belt out "I've Heard That Song Before." This ballad has incredible strength to complement its romantic quality; and the musical arrangement is beautiful. The lyrics highlight the beginning of a strong song stack, too. "I'll be With You In Apple Blossom Time" is another shimmering hit from a while back but Steve and Eydie sing it fresh here as if it were a brand new song. "Bei Mir Bist Du Schön" boasts another strong, upbeat melody with sublime lyrics.

Other great songs on this CD include the beautiful "Marie" delivered by Steve with a big band arrangement; and Eydie bats out a particularly romantic rendition of "I Don't Want To Walk Without You." Steve gives "Green Eyes" the romantic treatment with a fantastic musical arrangement. Neither Steve nor Eydie ever sing a single superfluous note.

Indeed, most if not all the musical arrangements boast the same strong big band/swing flavor. Don Costa arrangements will always stun you! The music highlights the same incredible sensitivity that Steve and Eydie display as they sing these awesome hits.

The CD ends as Steve sings "I Hear A Rhapsody." This song hints at the impressive set of words and music Steve and Eydie give you as you listened to this impressive CD.

The cover artwork is excellent, too.

This CD is a blessing for Steve and Eydie fans and fans of classic pop vocals will love this CD.

Customer Reviews:

3 out of 5 stars "they've got each other...".......2007-02-12

Steve Lawrence and Eydie Gorme were originally paired on Steve Allen's television variety show in the early 1950s. While Ms Gorme had been a popular solo star, she and Lawrence found a perfect professional and personal partnership. They were later married and continued their career as a duo to award-winning fame in records (and on Broadway, co-starring in "Golden Rainbow").

This CD includes a clutch of their early recorded hits. Duets from classic musicals like "Damn Yankees", "Gypsy" and "Gigi"; not to mention their trademark million-selling signature tune "This Could Be the Start of Something Big"; are included on this enjoyable disc.

Lawrence and Gorme always blended their voices so perfectly; the stridant and confident croon of Lawrence, coupled with the effortlessly brassy belt of Gorme; is totally irresistible.

A must for all fans. A bargain price, too.
