5 out of 5 stars All I Can Say Is "WOW"!!!.......2006-02-20

I guess i am a little bit behind in the times, I just bought this album yesterday after hearing people tell me how great it is and of course it's links to a great band called Far. This album is amazing, I wish I bought it sooner. Every song on it is well written and great. The guitars are crunchy and the vocals are clean. They have a sound somewhere between Foo Fighters and Staind...But they are in no way just another mainstream rock act. "Above The Noise" has it's crushing moments of anger, "Bonethrower" and "The Ride Of Los Angeles" and it's slow jams "The Gift" and "Looking Down The Barrel". This record is a must have for fans of meaty, guitar driven hard rock. I just hope they put out another album. The best songs "Bonethrower", "The Gift" and "Payday". Check this album out and the band Far, if you can find them.

5 out of 5 stars Insta-Classic.......2005-08-22

I recommend buying this for the hard rock tracks only. Great testosterone driven grunge dabbing in the arts of metal occasionally on this one. However, on the slower tracks like Payday, Looking Down The Barrel, etc.. It seems they overproduced and made it crappy. Find the demo versions of these songs to download (its incredible how much better the demo of payday is) along with some rarities like New Light, Come Together and make urself the perfect rock mixer cd.

5 out of 5 stars Something Fresh To Listen Too.......2005-04-26

I admire this CD because it sounds like Nu-Metal but it doesnt Suck Ass like Nu-Metal the singer has a perfect voice for the music it matches it perfectly........the guitar work is Nu-Metal with a unique splash to it....somewhere along the way you will notice a guitar riff here and there.........anyways get this album because its better than the cover puts it out to be.......my favorite songs are (Payday) and (Future of an end)

3 out of 5 stars Above Average performance of Average Music.......2005-03-17

I bought this album used, which is the way I think it should be bought. It isn't worth more then five bucks in all. I don't mean that overly negatively, it's just that this album doesn't have the umph it takes to make me fork over more then pocket change. I think the best way to sum up the sound of the Revolution Smile is if you were to take Josey Scott from Saliva doing one of their more mellow songs, on stage with Filter. Make any sense? How about this, if you are a fan of the Filter progression of things, meaning sweet vocals over acoustic guitar that blends into heavy yelling over distortion. In fact, now that I think about it, this album really does sound like a Filter album...huh? Anyways, there really aren't any standout tracks I can point you towards, "Cadilliac Ass" is cool and "Alien" ain't bad. Of course you'll want to sample the single "bonethrower" before you buy this used. If you want to understand why I keep comparing them to Filter listen to "I wish I" that about sums it up. Listen, if this sounds interesting or you like one of the samples, buy it used for a couple bucks, just be prepared to listen to it for a week and then lose it.

4 out of 5 stars worthy.......2004-05-22

The old saying "never judge a book by its cover", really hits home on this CD. The name of the band and CD pics do not apply to whats inside. I thought it would be LOUD-ANGRY-HATE music. WRONG! Its not.. nowhere near that.

After hearing this CD 3 times, it is definitely one that I will go back to again and again. Musically, it wont break any barriers, but the way they mix up the tempo between songs helps make the music seem less like every other cookie cutter CD out there. It may not appeal to everyone out there, but IMHO there are at least 8 very good songs on the CD. The rest are somewhere in the filler range, but they dont suck either.

    Product Description

60's style Beatles / Beach Boys Pop with vocal harmonies galore. This is a brand new Les Fradkin recording. He has endeavored to bring something new and fresh to "Love Grows" as well as new versions of 70's Hit classics such as "My Baby Loves Lovin'" and "Smile A Little Smile For Me." Of special interest is his new recording of "God Bless California." This track represents, possibly, the very last appearance in a recording studio of the famous group of studio musicians known affectionately to all as "The Wrecking Crew," featuring Hal Blaine, Carol Kaye and Don Randi.

Beatle-esque in both music and words. A true gem to stumble upon while wading through all the bubblegum, boy-band stuff advertised and thrown at us. Like the picture in a Magic Eye painting.

SOooo I get this 'share the love' email from an acquaintance. Ok I'll bite, I open it up and it's an amazon.com invite to purchase this CD! I jump right in 'cause after all I've listened to other stuff these audio artists have created, and love it! Yeah I have them all, the earliest to the latest.

I can't wait for the box to show, it finally arrives. I shred the cardboard container, to get at it. I am tearing off the cella-fame, while rushing out the back door to my vehicle. Pop this bad boy into the player and head out. I am instantly enthralled, anxious to glean the lyrics and follow along.

This CD has been a constant companion at home and has chauffered me about town, for well over 2 months now. It is an audio means of pleasure and satisfaction for me. The knowledge that my monies were well spent on the skill and creativity, with which these talented musicians have formed a truely masterful disc, is evident in the listening of it. AND MAN HAVE I LISTENED TO IT!!

Can't wait for the next level of tune from these guys.

5 out of 5 stars put a perfect smile on your face.......2001-07-19

If I was a music critic, and thankfully I am not, I would, undoubtedly, give the debut album by The Cellarbirds, "Perfect Smile", a very favorable review. It is, after all, magnificent. Alas, I am not a critic, and it is quite unlikely that someone would ask me to review this fine new recording since I am not able to view it through an objective, unbiased lens. After all, I know these guys, think they are extremely talented and knowledgeable musicians and consider myself fortunate to count them as friends. In other words, my writing a review would seem inappropriate. So I won't. But I'll still tell you what I think about this, the first release on the new S.A.M. Records label, because I believe that you deserve to know just how good it is.

From the opening guitar strains of the first song, the lyrics let you know immediately that these are songs about the stuff of adulthood. The words seem to be about the reality of standing up to, or in, a world that beats you down, spoken by someone who has been there. They speak to resignation and the acceptance of life's often cruel twists ("I dance upon the weeds to keep them down", "So twisted I've become/ Competing for the sun/ Just keeping everyone in decent clothes" and "So I go the extra mile/ Make your dreams walk single file"), you know, the realities that separate the men from the boys (or the adult from the child). But these songs are not without hope; indeed, they are driving, energetic and intelligent rock/pop tunes, for the most part, and they present a new take on the kind of music that was all over the radio in our younger days (I'm sure bands like The Byrds and The Band would creep into a review by a real, live critic, along with such names as XTC and Tom Petty and REM).

Ringing guitars, upbeat tempos and rhythms and an abundance of melody prevail here, with a smattering of organs and harmonicas to add just enough spice to the mix. Simple but beautiful harmonies decorate the majority of these songs and enough rhythm and tempo changes occur to keep the music interesting without ever becoming too complicated. Some outstanding tracks here include "Uncommonly Blue", "Someone Nice", "Open Ended" (with its exquisite sentiment, "You do for me what hunger does for poetry") and "Time for Pride" (does - "In the end what you won't give away/ The world takes anyway/ I have no time for pride/ I'm tired of me" - sound like your life?). Perhaps most telling of all the things that I can say about this record (all right, I know it's a CD, but I'm old enough to still call them by their real name) is that the bridge from "Happy Home", the album's second track, is deeply reminiscent of and informed by The Loving Spoonful's "Daydream". Enough said, no?

More than anything, this album contains the kind of mature, intelligent pop music that you probably haven't even looked for lately in your life. But remember when you were a teenager and would rush home with the latest album and listen to it over and over again, your heart floating on the gorgeous melodies and your mind captivated by interesting and stimulating lyrics (think Beatles here -- now, I'm not saying this is a Beatles album but if I were a music critic I'm sure such references would be inevitable, with a particular leaning toward the sensibilities of John Lennon).

Don't get me wrong, this is not a perfect album. My personal preference is for a little more bottom end in the mix and the second to last song, "Any Given Day", does not live up to rest of what's here. Beyond this, ten songs that come in at under 39 minutes seems a bit stingy, especially since it seems that these guys can write memorable melodies in their sleep. But these are minor complaints,

This disk has been in my CD player nonstop since I got it and it is still revealing itself and delighting me -- just the way albums did when I was younger. So do yourself a favor and get a copy of this album, put it on and watch as a perfect smile comes to your face.

5 out of 5 stars Cellarbirds first effort is superb!.......2001-05-25

I'm one of those people who only gets a chance to listen to music while driving. I've been listening to this CD in my car for a week and I hear something new each time. I keep picking out bits of complicated drum beats, snatches of haunting guitar parts, and bass that just knocks you away. Add to that lyrics that won't be heard from any cookie cutter pop band and I find myself taking the long way home to savor some extra listening time. Way to go Bret, Paul, and Ron!! I'm definetely going to try and arrange my schedule to catch a live performance. I know this CD was just released, but I'm hoping there'll be another one soon, I'm hooked!!

5 out of 5 stars "Perfect Smile" Is Brilliant!.......2001-05-13

This is a CD that you will play over and over. The superb songwriting and musicianship take me back to when I was a kid and I'd buy a Beatles or Van Morrison album and get so excited that I would listen to it for days on end letting it wash over me just drinking it in. A masterpiece. It's that good...Buy it.
