This track is soooo hott!
I know the rap version is better but it still good...
This cd may be rated 3.5/5 NOT 2/5...
The beats are off da hook and the song "Play" is tight...

5 out of 5 stars A song so hysterically funny...I JUST love it!!!.......2004-01-15

This is the funniest CD I have ever purchased in all my life.

I had to give it five stars because it is SO hysterically funny.

There she is, Jennifer Lopez, strutting her funky stuff showing off her diamonds and pearls and belting out, "...all the rocks that I got, I'm still Jenny from the block..."

I fell out of my wheelchair laughing so hard, girl get REAL here!

You're not still Jenny from the block, you've moved on from that, who are you trying to kid?

I might have taken your song more seriously if you hadn't flaunted Ben Affleck on the video, tried to show your "normal" life and how "ordinary" you still were.

It was so wonderfully nauseating, I hung onto every word, watched every frame of the video, it did wonders for my depressed funny bone I can tell you!

In all fairness though the song is quite catchy, I like the tune a lot, it's got a good steady beat to it but the lyrics, oh my ribs ache from laughing so much, they are so PANTS!

So Jenny from the Block, keep on singing songs like this, because if you do, you are going to make a lot of people happy, some us might even laugh ourselves into a coma.

I know I almost did!

1 out of 5 stars Yeah, Right. You're Ordinary, J-Lo........2003-08-14

This is not strictly a review of the song (which is not very good unto itself) but also a review of the music video for this song. I was unfortunate enough to catch the video for "Jenny from the Block" while eating breakfast this morning, and it bugged me so much that I felt compelled to comment on it. You see, the video consists of various shots of J-Lo and her bootylicious backside dancing about and enjoying the spoils of her successful career, all the while crooning about how she is still just that "regular girl from the corner". Whether it's a scene of her on various yachts making-out with "ordinary guy" Ben Affleck or a shot of her enjoying the finest champagne and food while being ferried in a limo, it's sure to evoke images of your average latino girl from the hood. Now, you're probably wondering - "Why the rant?" Am I just jealous of the rich and famous? Maybe a little, yes. But it really BUGS me when the rich and famous try to pretend they are ordinary, normal, average, common or down-to-earth everyday people. It REALLY BUGS me when they pretend to be these things while flaunting their fabulous wealth in a blatant attempt to spead the marketing net even further to convince as many people as possible that they "feel their pain" and associate with them in some way. Give me a break. J-Lo has about as much in common with the kids on the street corner as Elton John at this point. Get over it, J-Lo. Stick with your Hollywood friends and stop trying to pretend your still in the trenches.

1 out of 5 stars WEAKEST SINGLE OF 2002 - HANDS DOWN.......2003-07-14

Despite her presence requiring fashion Boutiques on Rodeo Drive needing to usher out customers, according to J.LO herself she's changed litlle from her humble beginning's in the Bronx.

Also being romantically attached to America's favorite pretty boy hasn't gotten to her head either, so she purports.

This song is BLATANTLY built around a Beatnuts sample which screams UNCREATIVE loud and clear. The Gueast Rappers Styles and Jadakiss while fine on their own, do little to enhance this horrible ditty. If I go the rest of my life without hearing this song I can Sleep in Peace.

1 out of 5 stars Lack of originality.......2002-12-07

Well, since this is a Jennifer Lopez song, so the riff must be a sample from some famous song. What could it be...ah, yes, The Beatnuts' "Watch Out Now"! Why does she always do that? "Ain't It Funny" remix used music from Craig Mack's "Flava in Ya Ear" (and that in itself may be a sample), "I'm Real" remix used Rick James's "Mary Jane", and "I'm Gonna Be Alright" remix is from Club Nouveau's "Why You Treat Me So Bad" (okay, to all younger fans, Luniz's "I Got 5 on It"). I personally think that it's to get more "black" fans because she's been criticized for being a sellout to white America. Either way, this song is wack. And don't get me started on her singing ability.

5 out of 5 stars She Real So Don't Hate.......2002-11-25

Jennifer has come back once again with her singe called "Jenny From The Block" In this single she knocks down negitive people as well as people who judge her for just being her "Jennifer". Thats why in the line "Nothing Phony Don't Hate On Me What You Get Is What You See" means you can love her or hate her she will always be jennifer and will never be phony. Jennifer is one of a kind who has been sucessful with alot. With 18 movies under her belt and counting, a fragrance, a restaurant, a clothing line, 3 brillent albums(Another which is due on tuesday(Nov 26, 02)Plus a ton of other projects underway. Still Jennifer lopez shows us that no matter what she does, or how she sounds(Acording To Those Who Can't Sing A Note)or who she is she will always and forever be "Jenny From The Block". Buy this single :)

1 out of 5 stars She is truly Wack beyond Words.......2002-11-25

I don't get Her overall success at all as for what She calls Singing. She is Pimping Her Old Neighborhood&has Brought Ben Aflack aboard.it seems all like Window Dressing too me.She wrecks a tight Beat that was a Jam for the Beatnuts a couple years back.the trip out thing about this song is that She is working with the Lox who use too work on Bad Boy Records which has Puffy-P-Diddy behind it who also use to be associated with J-Lo.small world huh?

1 out of 5 stars Weak Song, Weak Message.......2002-11-14

Truly the most overrated, weak voice singer of the present, Jennifer Lopez returns to the music scene with this single where she sings about her roots. "Jenny From the Block" is Ms. Lopez's answer to critics who say that she has changed from a nice girl who grew up in the Castle Hill section of the Bronx, made it big, moved out to Los Angeles, and forgot about the people who made her. The truth is she has.

This single which features Lopez's trademark weak vocals is a poor shout out to her neighborhood. The reality is that once one makes it big, they find greener pastures to graze on. Just like James Dean's character in the film "Giant," a bigshot forgets about the people who were there in past for them. This song which mixes hip hop and pop is not original like many songs we hear on the radio, and unlike Lopez's past singles, this song will have very little chance of becoming a successful remix. With her front page hijinks and her numerous paramours, it is hard for me and many others to believe that Jennifer is still the same, old "Jenny From the Block." The days following September 11, 2001, New York City really needed all her native children to help this great city recover from an act of evil. Many stars answered that call, yet Lopez was no where in sight, preferring to remain in California. With this fact, this song is most geered to her biggest fans. In conclusion, a poor single with a weak message.

        Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars My girl Jenny Lopez........2006-09-10

First of all, Jenny has never claimed to be Mariah Carey; Jenny is a simply a very good all-around entertainer. She also happens to be a nice Puerto Rican girl who got out of the projects. So why does everyone like to hate on her? Yes, it would be nice if she gave back more to the community, but does not doing so make her the spawn of Satan? Come on; give me a break! The bottom line is that this right here - while definitely not grammy material - is nevertheless an entertaining song. For those of you who insist on hating on her; just get over it already.

1 out of 5 stars Go Back To The Bronx.......2003-05-27

For Jennifer Lopez, she really needs to start finding a way to get herself out on the road. For her latest single, Jenny From The Block, she claims she is still the same girl she was, but she was just too sarcastic in fashion with that in mind. Still, she really has to get herself away from being the Milli Vanilli of Latin Pop, and prove that she can really sing. To be honest with you, I think her beau sings better than she can.

5 out of 5 stars Luv it mad!!!.......2003-01-19

I simply love this song and her new album "This is me...then", no matter what critics say. Jennifer's voice sounds really great on this record. Even my dad likes dis one! She's da bomb!! :) Buy her new CD! It's worth it!

1 out of 5 stars Jenny from the block? Please!.......2003-01-03

Jennifer, or JLO, is just full of herself (...). How can she still be that girl who was in living color when she is ranked as the most demanding artist out there. She calls herself down-to-earth when she thinks she is a diva. Not only are the lyrics unworthy, but the collaborations are too. I am tired of her trying to be black and trying to be Mariah by having all these rappers in her songs. The only difference is that Mariah has the voice. She is not overshadowed by the rappers. On the other hand, JLO is unherd of in her own songs.
So dont waste your money to buy this single, JLO is trying to sell an image she doesn't have.

        2 out of 5 stars Jenny's pretensions.......2002-12-22

This song rocks but why did i give it one star. For the very premise that J lo is just as pretentious as she ever is and she lacks confidence big time. Why is it that she has to reaffirm time and agian that she's real, she's alright and now she knows where she came from, that she's till the same Jenny from the Bronx. Nothing's more tired in the lyrics that the fact that she's from the Bronx. The rag to riches story is trite. Is she so under-confident she needs to reassure everyopne that she's pretty much the same as she always was? Cut the pretensions I would say! She's gonna be married three times in less than 3 years and she's as showy as she ever was. That's nothing to be proud of.

As for her voice, it's not something impressive but she's not even trying to want to sound impressive. Basically j lo's songs are in a way her vocals dun need much stretching and when it does need to be strecthed on scaling ballads, she fails horribly. On Jenny, it's fine simply bcos there's nothing much for her to scale.

Another sign that J lo is not sure of herself is that she can never hold a tune on herself, not enough to make a hit. Most of her last few hit releases feature a sad rapper intercepting her. Throw in some remixed grooves and beats and she's got a hit. Even her new song All I Have sees L L Cool J collaborating with her that's sad. At the end of the day, you'll never see a song from j lo not featuring any rapper and ultimately, no matter how good a tune is, j lo never carries it off fully!

Lo and Behold, jenny is low.
