Contains the 1996 compilation 'The Music Still Goes On' (16 track collection with hits like 'Does Your Mother Know', 'Ring Ring' & 'Arrival'), their 1974 & second album 'Waterloo' (11 tracks, including the top 10 title smash & the top 30 hit 'Honey Honey') and the 1994 compilation 'The Voice Of ABBA' (14 tracks, seven solo recordings apiece from the early '80s by the female half of the group, Agnetha & Frida, including Frida's top 20 1983 smash 'I Know There's Something Going On' with Phil Collins on drums). 41 tracks in all. Each CD comes in a standard jewel case with its original artwork intact & together they come housed in a full color, CD-sized slipcase box with new artwork. 1999 release.

Description

This box set will comprisse 9 CDs & 2 DVDs, plus a full colour booklet with timeline and photos. A separate booklet will contain lyrics to all the songs contained in the box set. This will mark the first ever release of a complete ABBA studio recordings set since the bands formation 33 years ago, and the first set to tell the ABBA story both through audio and video content. The 2 DVDs, featuring all the promo videos ever released by the band, THE HISTORY documentary which covers the overview of the ABBA story, and a previously unreleased concert, which was originally a part of the television special Dick Cavett Meets ABBA. 5 of the performances from Dick Cavett will be included.

A good opportunity for non-fans.......2007-06-20

As a fan of ABBA for many years, of course I had all their releases. For fans like me, the only "new" thing it brings is the Dick Cavett videos (a show that almost all ABBAfans have in VHS - complete! I bought it because my ABBA CDs are the common, simple, cheap versions. I bought it to update my collection, only.

On the other hand, for a person who want to know more about ABBA, and not only the hits, will have here the opportunity of a life. Very complete and well-produced, it's a chance to have the complete works of ABBA at once.

I own this wonderful piece of heaven, and I LOVE IT!!! This box includes every commercially released recording by ABBA. It does not include unreleased tracks because they are not commercially released. The outside of the box is light blue and feels velvety and soft. The box includes:
-All the albums with bonus tracks and original album artwork.
-Rarities CD with 8 tracks.
-2 DVD's:
DVD 1: The History-25-minute documentary with interviews by Bjorn Ulvaeus & Michael Tretow. Live in April 1981- 5 live songs performed on the Dick Cavett Show.

Great collection of songs.......2007-04-22

I can recall this band when i was a child having alot of hits.Some of the songs i remember from those days were S.O.S. and Waterloo.My mum bought some of their albums and i just loved a heap of their songs.By the late 70's i started ignoring them as they got so much attention by the media.But i still liked alot of their tunes.Radio stations seemed to ignore this band alot in the 80's here.But i heard some of their songs and after so many years of not hearing them they sounded damn good,so i went and got a few albums.This was 1989 and i got right into them again.I always hoped this band would get back together,but the news is that they will not.Thats a shame,but there is so much music to reflect on.Every now and then i play their songs,Some of my favorites are the 2 i mentioned and Honey Honey,I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do, I Do ,Mamma Mia ,Fernando ,Ring Ring ,The Winner Takes It All ,Under Attack , Hasta Manana and Thank You For The Music.There is also a stack of other songs i like.This is a good collection of their songs.

This is a magnificent box set. It's one of the best box sets out there. Every ABBA hit is here, and then some. ABBA may be the greatest pop group ever. Every album they did is represented, and it even has rare singles and B-sides that are as good as the songs that ABBA is well known for. ABBA got a lot of flak (and still does occasionally) from "serious" music circles, because their music was so popular around the world (not so much here, though. Contrary to popular belief, ABBA had only 3 top ten hits in America, the rest of the world adored them, even to this day). It's not easy to put together great pop music like this, and to do it so consistently and better with each successive album. All ABBA's albums (including their really early ones) are represented here. It's definitely worth the money.

WONDERFUL!.......2006-07-02

This box set is awesome- 66 songs! ABBA Undeleted is one of my favorite tracks because it's the only way to hear ABBA's unfinished/unreleased songs. So they are songs you've never heard. How fun! In all, (including ABBA Undeleted songs) there are 80 songs. Also, there is a 66-page booklet!
Best songs: Dream World, Elaine, Burning My Bridges (Burning My Bridges is a country song), and You Owe Me One.
I would also reccommend listening to the previews of the songs to be sure you like the box set. ENJOY PLEASE!!!

Musical Genius.......2006-03-30

ABBA has composed without a doubt many many flawless, perfectly crafted pop songs. I don't think there is one bad track on this entire box set. Buy this. You will not be disappointed.

Understated & Underrated - Pop of the Highest Order and Precision.......2005-11-21

Having been exposed to Abba during my youth in the 70's, I realized how profound their influence has been on my sense of music scope and appreciation. Before the unoffical 'ressurection' and revival of everything Abba in pop circles during the early to mid 90's, I stumbled upon a cassette of their greatest hits and gave it a cursory listen. It was at that point I realized that they had a LOT more dimension than what I initially gleaned from radio and previous exposure.

I was unable to find anything on cd at my record store at the time (this was summer of 1992) excepting an import of 'Abba -The Singles' which served nicely. Then of course came the second coming of Abba of sorts with 'Abba Gold' and such and then finally this box set "Thank You For The Music".

Most would say that a box set would likely be a bit superfluous and only for a hardcore fan. That assesment may be correctly stated but anyone who is an afficianado of popular music in general would likely benefit from the exposure this collection has to offer. I won't go on and say every song is superb - there are some 'throwaways' on the last disc. But it warrants the 5 (*****) star review on the merits of the sheer expansiveness and breadth of the output of one of pop music's finest.

Everything is captured here - the swirling elegance of 'Dancing Queen' (which transcends the oft affixed 'disco' label to it with a nicely understated piano track in the background while the vocals and violins swirl around it), to the rollicking rush of 'Waterloo', the plaintive melodies of 'S.O.S.', the earnest balladry of 'Fernando'(if you consider it cheesy then you haven't listened to it fully), to the mystique of 'Knowing Me, Knowing You', the great pop harmonies of 'Take A Chance On Me', and onward. To add, some of the musical arrangements and production is of the highest order of magnitude. A pop guilty pleasure to be sure - if one were to consider appreciating music of this caliber something of a secret.

Half the pleasure of listening to this box set is (especially for the unitiated) listening to the material that garnered little or no media exposure. There's many a tune on here that I have found on an equal if not at times superior standing to some of the singles that cracked the charts. To elaborate on them would take up too much space here but that alone makes it worth the 'price of admission'.

To close, it baffles me at times of the seemingly commonly quoted statement of how Abba never made headway in North America. They may have not had the penetration of say, The Beatles or even The Bee Gees and Olivia Newton-John. But they DID get a foothold into American music. Chart statistics will show that they had 14 top 40 hits including 4 top 10s and a #1 (Dancing Queen) here in the US - none too shabby at all. When I started listening to their catalogue, what astonished me was the songs that I had heard from them before of which according to the charts, failed to make impact.

I would venture a guess and state that during their heyday Abba may have been overshadowed somewhat by other musical entities in North America but by no means were they compromised. This stuff is enduring the test of time and has put them in an echelon occupied by very few peers and contemporaries. Don't be surprised if Abba continues to be observed in a new light, perhaps kindling a reappreciation for their efforts as well as converting new legions of fans.

the 27 singles in this set (29 if you were lucky to get your hands on the ealier edition in the tin box)released to comemorate abba's victory at the eurovision song fest in 1974 are certified hits... 3 hits out of every album (8 in all)an average of five countries per single, covering virtually every territory from australia to zimbabwe, 19 hitting #1 in at least one country, with two justfiable exceptions: communist china and north korea.

I am a huge ABBA fan, and although I have most of their CD's (& even the old vinyls) I just had to get this collection - although mine also has the German & French versions of Waterloo and comes in a metal box. It is always great to listen to ABBA.

This a very impressive box set meant for hardcore Abba fans or hardcore collectors.

It was relased in Japan earlier than it was in the US. It sells for 21,000 yen in Japan (about $200) I assume the reason for the higher price in the US is bulk import costs. I am uncertain if there is any difference with the US release but the Japanese release has a lot of materials.

Each disc is in a polyethelyne dust jacket inside a slip case with the original album art and a booklet nearly identical to the ones in the 2001 US release. The bonus disc has no booklet but the set itself includes a large 80 page booklet with album info and lyrics. About 95% of the booklet is in Japanese. There are also facsimilies from the Japanese releases of LP singles of, Hasta Manana/Honey Honey, Fernando/Tropical Loveland, Dancing Queen/Tiger, SOS/I do I do I do..., and The Winner Takes it All/Elaine.

There are also the slips often seen on Japanese releases of albums originally released outside of Japan. The box itself is a weighted slipcase.

ABBA The ultimate box set.......2005-03-20

This has to be the ultimate for ant ABBA fan. This box set from Japan is all of Abba's 8 album's re-mastered and re-released again, just in time for their 30th anniversary.
The bonus cd is everything a true ABBA fan would want. This includes remixes and tracks never before released.
I recommend this as a keeper. This box set is a limited edition from Japan. You won't be disappointed.

$320 ??? Why? All of these songs are already available on all of their other CD's... Nothing new here...moving right along.
