This cd has the plague!.......2003-01-05

Well, it doesnt really, but for your own sake, treat it like it has! stay well, well away. Every song on this album is exactly the same, no i dont mean similar I MEAN THE SAME!!. If you want to spend your hard earned cash on something worthless, why not go and buy 15 odd socks or a bag of empty drinks cans? or failing that you could even send your money to me, i'll make good use of it. This cd is definately high on the AVOID list, matched only by all of westlife's cd's or anything by so solid crew. If you really want a cd then i will recomend "songs for the deaf" by queens of the stone age or "reroute to remain" by In flames.

Are Americans getting the shaft?.......2002-05-10

I have never bought a Now collection until I found this one. The music is more diverse than the American offerings. There is a lot to like here from Ja Rule to the Chemical Brothers. I am not a big fan of everything on here, but at least it has some different stuff that I normally would not buy. The price may be a little high, but it's worth it if you want exposure to some new sounds that are not always getting exposed in the U.S.

Get the NOW ahead of the curve.......2002-04-09

Previous editions of these 2-CD UK sets have already had recent US top 10 tracks by Kylie Minogue, Craig David & LeAnn Rimes months before they became hits in America. You can wait a year until the US NOW's catch up, or move ahead of the curve. This one has Enrique's big hit "Hero", and Nickelback's #1 "How You Remind Me", Ja Rule's smash "Always On Time" as well as new tracks by R Kelly, Mary J Blige, Sum 41, Aaliyah, Shaggy, Alien Ant Farm, Backstreet Boys, Britney, Kylie Minogue's next hit, and even Oscar-nominee Nicole Kidman. Lots of dance & trance tracks, too. If you can't find something you like on this CD, go back to the 90's.

Marcel Dupré is an important historical as well as musical figure, his compositional freedom linking the golden age of Widor and Vierne with the radical rethinking that Messiaen saw through in his great organ cycles. Never doing things by halves, Naxos has reached Volume 9 of the complete organ works--mainly chamber pieces involving organ. Most substantial is the "Trio for Violin, Cello, and Organ," in one sense a throwback to the Baroque line of trio sonatas, but with a harmonic richness that indicates a late-19th-century inheritance--thoughtful, undemonstrative music, persuasively realized by Bruce Neswick and colleagues. The "Quartet" adds a viola to the lineup, but a delightful scherzando apart is a lesser affair, while the "Sonata for Cello and Organ" is a modest but interesting work (at least for the way Dupré makes a telling contrast between the sonorities of the two instruments). Again, perceptive playing from Neswick, whose Indiana organ has a clear, bright sound that makes the generous selection of Chorales interesting for the listener as well as the player. At the price, a worthwhile collection of some unusual repertoire. --Richard Whitehouse
