E.D Swankz and Don Verbrilli profile some of their latest work on this full length offering, which also features remixes from three of England’s most innovative and eclectic artists, Boomclick, Bussetti, and Alucidnation. Laura B. of Big Chill fame also lends her melodious voice to the greater good of "All the Land."

Lifesavers is further indication that Swankz and Verbrilli place a premium on improving upon, and facilitating, the evolution of their sound whilst still maintaining the freedom and eclecticism that has characterized Upstairs Recordings’ work in the past. Upstairs Recordings is not really about creating new scenes or breaking new musical territory. It is more about creating quality, lasting music that eschews the notion that music created on computers and sequencers is intrinsically disposable. Both having come from a band background, Verbrilli and Swankz naturally write songs, rather than ‘tracks’, but do not shy away from the beauty of repetition, and the allure of heavy beats and tight rhythms.

The songs on Lifesavers are brand new yet somehow pleasantly nostalgic, buoyed along by wafting guitar lines, the drone of hammonds, gleaming tones of rhodes. Richly detailed, like deftly-cut coloured gems, the songs are individually and uniquely luminescent and timeless, but possess a unifying, organic sweetness and warmth. Like a bright package of crystalline candies perfectly distilling the essence of delicious fruits- these are great sunshine treats.

gripping & uplifting.......2004-04-20

This album is beautiful all round. A nice balance of gripping beats and uplifting atmospheres. "Robert Plants Magic Beans" by Verbrilli was the most capturing track for me. Strongly because of the direction change midway, but also due to the melodies and textures in each movement. Swankz's "Brackish" comes in second place for me. The others are all excellent tracks aswell.
A must have!
