Debbie Gibson never recorded anything as sexy as Britney Spears's white-funk smoker "...Baby One More Time." Unfortunately, neither does the 17-year-old Spears's debut album contain anything else that remotely approaches that instant hit single. A few of the disc's cuts are pleasantly catchy, but too much of its space is given over to icky ballads ("E-Mail My Heart"?) and other unconvincing moves such as the dancehall-lite "Soda Pop." --Rickey Wright

2 out of 5 stars baby one more time is the only good thing on here.......2007-07-11

i love britney and i love her music, songs, e.t.c. but as the Amazon review ponited out the song titles are even cheesy and the only song of quality is "Baby one more time." seems like brit and producers wanted to create one hit and put a bunch of garbage. 2 other songs are ok. but thats it, just ok.

5 out of 5 stars Britney Spears Baby One More Time.......2007-07-08

I used to have this CD, than I traded it to someone, now I have my own again that I found at a thrift store... one problem: CD plays fine on regular stereo but when I went to put it in my computer to get songs from it for my MP3 Player, it was skipping like mad! Now I know never to buy second-hand Cds even if they are cheap, and this one definetly was cheap! @ least I have $20 some dollars that I don't know what to do with, when I go to a doctor's app that I have on the 16th of this month, I'll just buy a new one. Anyhow, this CD is awesome otherwise, Brit did prettty darn good being as this was her first album. Favorite songs are: ...baby one more time, (you drive me) crazy, sometimes, soda pop, i will be there, i will still love you, thinking about you, and the beat goes on. Gr8 job on your first debute album Britney... although I'm still kind of mad that I have to replace this YET AGAIN, I still highly recommend this album!

4 out of 5 stars 3'5 Stars - Britney's Debut Isn't Bad At All.......2007-05-19

No matter what you think of Britney Spears now, after scandals, wild partying, head shaving and marriage she was quite good when she started off. A innocent 18 year old girl that did catchy teen-pop without much fuss. This, her debut album debuted at #1 at the charts and became the best selling debut album for a female artist aswell as staying on the album charts for over 2 years. Britney Didn't have much of an impact of the actual songs, but with the help of the Swedes from Cheiron, (Max Martin and co) the result was great and she scored with several of the singles here, including the title track that became a chart topper on both sides of the atlantic and in many other places around the world aswell. No matter how you put it or think of her, this album was a success and some of the songs here are irressistable pop songs penned by Max Martin and his friends, Martin won awarded songwriter of the year and Britney Spears became a top notch star in no time.

The album starts with the huge world wide smash "Baby One More Time", no need to go into further in detail on that one, but it was one of the best selling singles of that year and became her "Anthem". Another Martin song called "You Drive Me Crazy" reached the yop 10 and was also a catchy uptempo pop song. Famous Swedish songwriter Jörgen Elofsson wrote "Sometimes" a pop ballad with great hook and melody, the song was big in Europe but only peaked at #21 at the US chart. "Soda Pop" is dancehall influenced and feels a bit out of placed here. More Swedish songwriting on the midtempo "Born to Make You Happy" which was also a successful single, but for some reason they prefered releasing the somehwat sappy ballad "From The Bottom Of My Broken Heart" in the Us instead, reaching place #14. Another meliodic pop song with good hook/melody called "I Will Be There" is up next. "I Will Still Love You" features singer Don Philip that sounds like Brian Littrell from Backstreet Boys. It's a decent song nonetheless. Two forgettable songs comes next called "Thinking About You" and "E-Mail My Heart" then the closer, the obligatory cover of Sonny & Cher's "The Beat Goes On" arrives which is the worst song of the album. On the European version there were three more songs included, "Deep in My Heart", "I'll Never Stop Loving You" and "Autumn Goodbye". Since most songs are just pop songs without very deep lyrics, I didn't go into detail what they dealt about since it shouldn't be too hard to figure that out in the first place.

Overall, Britney Spears debut is strong and it got what a good pop album should have, nice sing-a-long pop songs that are meliodic with good hooks. The lyrics may be a little superficial at times but that's beyond the point since it offers what it should. Looking back in time, this sounds like ages ago and ALOT happened to her and the music world since, but let's just judge this album for what it is and for what it got to offer. Having said that, it's more then a decent album, 3'5 stars is the final verdict and a recommended album if you love good and simple pop.

4 out of 5 stars not bad.......2006-11-03

Yes, it's hard to believe someone like me would enjoy Britney Spears ...Baby One More Time album. I guess I just like the bubblegum melodies and the pretty face of Britney. Say what you will about Britney (which is a lot, mostly negative) but her musical talent wasn't nearly as bad as people thought. If it was, I wouldn't like this album after all these years.

Britney has a family now, which means Britney probably won't have the urge to repeat the innocent teenage atmosphere of this album ever again. But remember this album.

4 out of 5 stars She was born to make us happy........2006-08-01

Britney Spears's debut disc ...Baby One More Time has to be one of the best bubble gum, senseless, and fun albums ever by this arrogant, ungrateful pop princess. Forget about what she looks and sounds like now, on her debut she is cool, surprisely good singer, and has the most catchiest songs ever. Standout tracks include: Born to Make you Happy, Sometimes, From the Bottom of my Broken Heart, Thinkin' About You, E-Mail my Heart, and of course that damn ...Baby One More Time. On the song Soda Pop she sounds and belts like Christina Aguilera, who knew? Ok the songwriting is so childish but hey this was popular back then so don't blame me guys! Britney had real potential back then, too bad all that cigarette smoking, late night partying and destructive behavior shot her voice to hell. Oh well at least we can remember how "normal and virginal" she was oh so long ago. Enjoy!

In the six years since her debut CD ...Baby One More Time set Billboard charts a-trembling, Britney Spears has pried open pop music's rusty cage and sprinkled her sex-kittenish fairy dust around like long-overdue disinfectant. She has also arguably done more for the neglected navel than Jennifer Lopez and Beyoncé have done for the derrière. But despite her well-earned reputation for boldness (to which releasing a greatest-hits package after just four discs can only add), Britney calls it quits at making claims about her vocal talent. And that works in her favor. Because while My Prerogative is an exciting and even at times superb record, its merits lie almost exclusively in each track's production. From the Abba-esque choruses of her earliest hits ("...Baby One More Time," "Crazy") to the twitching, pulsed-up grooves of 2001's "I'm a Slave 4 U" to the technified bleeps and swizzles of 2003's self-skewering "Outrageous," the pop princess proves she's been largely content to let her in-studio performances take a back seat to the rhythm. With beats as consistently good as the ones she's managed to recruit, though, it's hard to blame her. "Toxic" and "Me Against the Music" mash trance and hip-hop into the mix, and the three previously unreleased joints don't shrink from sliding headfirst into new sound, either. The Bobby Brown cover and title track stomps and bomps to a bared-teeth backdrop, and "Do Somethin'" creates such dancefloor urgency it should come with a siren. "I've Just Begun (Having My Fun)" treads two steps shy of crossing the Britney-bred boundary between sexy and raunchy, but fans will hope it's autobiographical anyway. For detractors the song--and the disc as a whole--should signal a long wait till the party's over. --Tammy La Gorce

4 out of 5 stars Full of Heart Pumping, Heart Warming Songs.......2007-06-05

Britney Spears's Greatest Hits is full of heart pumping, heart warming songs. These widely known tunes were classic in the late `90s. I'm not much of a fan but for reason's I can't define, I play this album a lot. This really is the best of Brittney. Don't waste your money getting the separate albums. Just get he ones you like, like me and buy this album. But then maybe I like this album so much because my friend Ophella plays it all the time. Maybe it just grew on me. Still, I like it and I think you will to. Go figure.

The fourth in the series of Top 40-tracking compilations strikes a good balance between pop radio played-to-death singles, R&B standouts, and straight-up rock chart stormers. The beginning of the disc is packed with requisite teen pop; however, the Britney Spears offering "(You Drive Me) Crazy" will probably disappoint those who were hoping for the more recent "Oops!... I Did It Again"). This disc, where the Italian group Eiffel 65's dance-pop smash "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" lives in the same space as Blink 182's "All the Small Things," Ben Harper's "Steal My Kisses," and Macy Gray's "I Try," is like channel surfing during drive-time radio hours and scoring with every hit of the "seek" button. --Beth Massa

Backstreet Boys - Larger Than Life: This was a great song to dance too at the club when it came out. A

Britney Spears - (You Drive Me) Crazy: This is my favorite Britney song of all time. Not only is the beat great but it makes me want to sing along. A+

Marc Anthony - I Need To Know: No I don't need to know and this song is just awful I always skip it when I listen to this cd. F-

Mandy Moore - Candy: Great song and great singer. I always did like Mandy Moore's music. A

Eiffel 65 - Blue: This song was awesome; that is all I can say. I loved the song and the music video. This is one of the best songs on the cd. A+

Sonique - It Feels So Good: It depends on my mood with this song. I like the singer but this song was overplayed. C

Lenny Kravitz - I Belong To You: This wasn't one of Lenny's best songs and this song was 2 years old at the time this was released but it is catchy none-the-less. B

Savage Garden - I Knew I Loved You: I liked this song; I danced to it at my wedding reception. It is very romantic. B+

Joe - I Wanna Know: Like the previous song, this is another romantic song that brings back memories. A-

Aaliyah - Try Again: I miss Aaliyah; this was a woman who could sing and the songs were meaningful. I loved this song and I do refer to it from time to time when I am talking with friends. A+

Jennifer Lopez - Waiting For Tonight: This was a good hit for Jennifer. I have to admit the music video was better. B

Montell Jordan - Get It On Tonite: Please don't get it on tonite, this was the second song I didn't like on this cd. Even the music sounded bad. F

Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals - Steal My Kisses: An average song, have no complaints. C

Smash Mouth - Then The Morning Comes: This was another great hit off of their cd. It is catchy and plain addictive. A+

Train - Meet Virginia: I am not a big fan of Train but I did like this song. I liked it the first time I heard it. A-

Macy Gray - I Try: This is the one of two songs I liked by Macy Gray. It is a shame she went downhill after this cd but I still like this song. A

Hanson - This Time Around: I have no comment on this song. Hanson should have given up with the cd previous to this. They don't deserve an F they deserve a Z-

blink-182 - All The Small Things: This was a great song. The beat and the way it went was good enough to buy the cd. A

4 out of 5 stars Vol. 4.......2006-07-18

A step up indeed was Vol. 4 in the Now! series, for with this contribution we recieve almost an entire album of quality songs with very few 'skipable' tracks. Sadly, the first track is 'skipable'. The Backstreet Boys offered some very decent tracks on their sophmore album, but the single 'Larger than Life' was not one of them. It's regurgitating pop/shlop at it's worst and should be avoided at all costs. And to think they had so many good tracks on that one CD alone. Britney serves up a great pop song with Crazy, although the 'Stop' remix for the film was better. Marc Anthony has never been my favortie latin artist, but I have always loved 'I Need to Know' so despite my distaste for Anthony himself, I don't skip this track.

Superstar Mandy Moore, who at this day and age is better known for her acting than her singing, serves up her debut single 'Candy' here and shows us that pretty face aside this girl can sing too. Out of all the pop queen diva's, next to Christina of course, Mandy has the purist voice, deffinatly surpassing Britney and that 'shoot myself if I ever have to hear her sing another song' Jessica Simpson.

There are some questionmarks here and they come in the form of Eiffel 65 and Ben Harper and the Innocent Criminals, both of which turn out tracks here that are less than impressive. I never was a far on 'Blue' and until this disc had never heard of 'Steal KIsses' but neither track makes me want to listen. I label these 'Skipable'...

I actually like 'It Feels So Good' mostly becasue it's not average and while it takes a little getitng used to it's still worth the listen. Finally a Lenny Kravitz song I like!!! 'I Belong to You' is a great song and it really showcases Kravitz talent, talent I wasn't privy to until this song. Savage Garden was big with a lot of my girlfriends at the time (both platonic and romantic) and 'I Knew I Loved You' was truly one of the best...plus I have a special place in my heart for that track (some naughty things happened while that track was pumpin').

Some strong tracks by the late Aaliyah (RIP) and a killer track by Montel (love this guy) help round out this album, making it more about the music than any particular genre. And yes J. Lo delivers with 'Waiting for Tonight' which is one of the best dance songs out there, and while some hated it I absolutly loved Trains 'Meet Virginia' for it was our first chance to meet Trian and they are truly one great band. Even Macy is forgivable here for she adds something to this album that no other artist could have...and that's an air of toleration. Notice I didn't list her with the 'sucky' songs for even though I'm not a huge fan of her or 'I Try' I've always respected her talent for what it was even if I just didn't quite get it.

Blink closes us out with yet another great song, though a bit overplayed...but it's Blink and you have to love them. Great collection of the best the year had to offer. Yes some were missed, some great and some not so, but what was shared was still memerable and well worth the storage space.

3 out of 5 stars "NOW 4"; Not 4 Everyone.......2005-04-08

I feel that the "Now That's What I Call Music!" series is one of the best things to happen to the music industry in quite some time. Especially in our age of illegal downloading; it provides a legal method to obtain great single without bankrupting your wallet. Ussually, the albums are well worth the purchase because they are solid collections of quality singles. That is not the case with "NOW 4"; one that is too much of a mixed bag. For every really good song, there is one that ranges from bad to average. Unfortunetly, the two types are scattered throughout (so we can't skip an entire section). The mixed bag of tracks:
(1) Backstreet Boys "Larger Than Life" A+. Commonly known for their ballads, the boys deliver a perfect dance number here. Everything is pumped up to create an energized, stormin' pop/rock track flowing with solid beats. You can't help getting caught up in the energy and excitment this gererates. One of 1999's best singles.
(2) Britney Spears "(You Drive Me) Crazy" C+. Fun beat and production, yet very shallow in the end. Sticks to memory afterwards, but after examination we realizie that the song is about nothing. Though it isn't terrible; there are many more songs out there which are more worthy of our time.
(3) Marc Anthony "I Need To Know" A. Simple content that is filled with so much energy, zest and excitment to make it work on all levels. Anthony shows himself to be a very versatile vocalist, and a person who can flow perfectly with his beats. The song is wisely on the short side, any longer could have ruined it. This is a true treasure of 1999.
(4) Mandy Moore "Candy" B+. The material doesn't have much in terms of depth, but Mandy brings enough flair and style to make it work. Her voice is effective as it gives a certain conviction and urgency to the lyrics. Not a brilliant "teen pop" song; just a very entertaining one.
(5) Eiffel 65 "Blue (Da Ba Dee)" B-. This song is very dificult to review. As intriuging as I find the lyrics and get mesmerized by the beat; I still wish the song would pull together and complete what it ventures into. Although it isn't a complete success; it is never boring.
(6) Sonique "It Feels So Good" D+. She sounds extremley high pitched, and the voice is so odd and strange, that the song is irreversably crippled by it. If there is any substance to the song; it becomes lost a muddled through out. This is an example of a dance song failing.
(7) Lenny Kravitz "I Belong To You" B+. It is rather refreshing to hear Lenny shed the massive beats, because that gives him the opprotunity to showcase his vocals. He sings this track with utter conviction and heart throughout. That gives the song a certain depth and emotion.
(8) Savage Garden "I Knew I Loved You" C. A well made song that just plays it safe, and never does anything new or exciting. The vocals are decent (beats are almost none-existent), but there is no real depth in them. In the end, the song lacks the impact that could have had from a better group (i.e. 98 Degrees, Backstreet Boys)
(9) Joe "I Wanna Know" B+. In contrast to many songs; this is a retro R&B track which works. The material is as old as time, yet Joe's classy, polished voice make it sound convincing and touching at all times. As they say: a very good singer can make an old song sound new; and that's what he does here.
(10) Aaliyah "Try Again" A-. There's a really nice undercut of hip-hop here, which gives the song alot of it's edge. Aaliyah's voice adds conviction to make the lyrics sound passionate, and add some depth to them. Proof that not all R&B has to be sad; you get completely wrapped up in Timbaland's production.
(11) Jennifer Lopez "Waiting For Tonight" B. Well made, but it doesn't fully display J. Lo's talents. It's catchy, fun and light, yet we know that the song could have been more than that. "On The 6" was her debut LP, and it seems average compared to her later albums, particularly "J. Lo".
(12) Montell Jordan "Get It On Tonite" C. His 1995 single, "This Is How We Do It" is a memorable R&B classic. Shame that the qualities that made that work (the slick vocals and beat) are all-together lacking here. What's left is a standard R&B tune with no life to it. A real step back for Montell Jordan.
(13) Ben Harper and The Innocent Criminals "Steal My Kisses" D. Their ungainly mix of R&B, funk and folk is a total failure. The beat has no impact, the lyrics have no substance and there is no impact or meaning at all. Strange that "NOW" would use such an odd mess.
(14) Smash Mouth "Then The Morning Comes" B-. The begining is so brilliant, original and different; I wish the song kept up that pace. It's not in the same league as "All Star", but still remains a solid pop/rock single. You can't help listening to the opening over and over.
(15) Train "Meet Virginia" C-. I really liked "Drops Of Jupiter" and "Calling All Angels"; those were rock tracks filled with emotion and power. I don't see any purpose to this song; the emotion isn't there and it's very uninvolving. I guess Train just had to find their skills.
(16) Macy Gray "I Try" B-. This is a beautifully written song with heartfelt lyrics, made unsuccessful by one factor: Macy's voice. Her voice is very weak and not very appealing, thus she detracts from the impact of her work. This song would be much better if someone else sung it.
(17) Hanson "This Time Around" D. It's not as irrating as "MMMBop" (few songs are), but there is nothing good about it either. All that the song does is cement the fact that Hanson was a talentless group. A very disposable song.
(18) blink-182 "All The Small Things" A-. A very good song that delivers everything we expect from blink-182. In fact, it even has more dimension and relevance than most of their music. It's short, but that helps create a nice, little breeze of a rock single. A good ending to a so-so album.
Bottom Line: **1/2. A real step backwards after the great heights that "NOW 3" was able to reach. I liked some of the songs, but I really could have done without a handful of them. Limp Bizkit's "Break Stuff", 98 Degrees' "I Do (Cherish You)", Q-Tip's "Vivrant Thing", Brian McKnight's "Stay Or Let It Go", Destiny's Child's "Say My Name" and Big Pun's "It's So Hard" all would have been better selection. I can not tell you to rush out and buy this, but put it on your wish list or hope for it as a gift.

Yes, she did. Even if the title track's chorus is a blatant rip-off of the Barbra Streisand/Barry Gibb duet, "Woman in Love," it's still darn catchy--much more than anything from 1999's ...Baby One More Time (save the album's fab title tune, of course). With the rest of the 12 songs here, the teen queen pretty much delivers a remake of her last album. Songs like "What U See (Is What U Get)" and "Stronger" show Swedish songwriter-producer Max Martin in his element, churning out another and yet another slick smash with staccato synth beats and heavily overproduced melodies. But even at his strongest points, he can't bury Britney's voice far enough below the virtual guitars--and it's obvious this girl ain't no Celine. Except for the horrendous ballads, however, that doesn't make a stitch of a difference. The pop songs have all the qualities of memorable tunes--the choruses are clear and catchy, the beats are bouncy enough to make you shake your bonbon, and the singer is about as randy for love as Austin Powers is for a shag. Edit out the low-water mark--when Britney mutilates the Rolling Stones' misogynist anthem, "Satisfaction," by oversexualizing it with inserted "uh"s ("I can't get no, uh, satisfaction")--and you've got a hit-packed album that's as guilty a pleasure as reruns of Beverly Hills 90210. --Heidi Sherman

2 out of 5 stars Britney's Worst.......2007-07-17

Oops...I did it Again is Britney Spear's worst album. I expected this CD to be an improvement from Britney's first album (Which I didn't totally hate), but turns out it was worse. All the songs have the same exact beat, and I noticed that the songs had a similar sound to the songs in her previous album. This CD is un-original, and Britney's vocals are so obviously computerized. There were some songs that I guess I semi-enjoyed which were: "Oops...I did it Again", "Stronger", and "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know", and the songs you should watch out for are: "Don't go knockin' on my door", Satisfaction (Yes, she covered the Rolling Stones classic, and butchered it.),"Can't Make you Love Me", and What U See Is What U Get". Definitely Britney's Worst. Avoid it at all costs.

5 out of 5 stars Britney at her best..........2007-05-29

...for those too scared to attempt to like or praise Britney for her career. This review is for you.

If you allow yourself for one second to transcend the stereotype of manufactured music, this album will tantilize your ears. On this album, Britney does what she does best--give you booty shaking tracks, proclamations of looking for love, and gilr power anthems. but, isn't that what pop is all about.

She never claims to be the next Diana Ross. hell, she doesn't even pretend to belt it out like Christina Aguilera. On this album, like the title suggests, she does it again. However, there's no mistake about it. And, again, allowing yourself to take pop with a grain of salt and realize it fgor wehat it is, you can actually enjoy the tracks.

Some of my fave include: "Can't Make You Love Me," "Don't Go Knock My Door," and "Stronger." All songs which perpetuate that pop music at that time was all about asserting what it meant to be a teenaged girl--fun, fearless, and cool.

So, alas, those of you who use her cuyrrent state of affaris to bash her entire career. It wasn't always so marred and shameful. She was, at one time, on topo of her game. And this album proves it!

4 out of 5 stars 3'5 Stars - She Did It Again.......2007-05-20

Why change something that ain't broken?. "Oops!" takes off where "Baby One More Time ended, and that isn't strange since it was a huge success. It's basically the same concept all over again without being bad. Catchy pop for a younger audience, mostly penned by the Cherion guys with Max Martin and co then one Diane Warren ballad and the obligatory cover that is even worse then the last time. Either way, Britney was still good back then making music that suited her well and her private life wasn't a whole mess with marriages, head shaving, endless partying and other things I shouldn't mention here. Spears didn't have much impact on this album here either for good and bad, but co-wrote the closer called "Dear Diary".

The opener "Oops!... I Did It Again" which is a standard Max Martin song was pretty good when I first heard it but got overplayed so bad that I couldn't stand it later on, either way it's not a bad pop song and it demonstrates that the same concept works all over again when an artist is popular. The song itself was a huge selling hit and reached top 10 in most countries. "Stronger" another successful single is simular, a catchy uptempo with irressistable hook. More of the same with ""Don't Go Knockin' On My Door" which was only a album song. Darkchild who also produced a song on her third album produced the embarrasing remake of Stones "I Can't Get No Satisfaction" and it should be skipped at any cost. "Don't Let Me Be the Last to Know" is her best ballad, but was only a hit in Europe, nonetheless it's a grower. More standards on ""What U See Is What U Get" followed by the best song of this album in my oppinion called "Lucky" which ironically reminds me alot about what happened to Britney Spears later on with it's hook "She's so lucky/ she's a star/ But she cry, cry, cries in her lonely heart, thinking
If there's nothing missing in my life/ Then why do these tears come at night". Next up is a song slow paced song called "One Kiss from You" which isn't that good really. A Max Martin ballad called "Where Are You Now?" is weak and doesn't have either the trademark sound or a good hook. More of the same with "Can't Make You Love Me" which is an uptempo Martin song. Diane Warren wrote the ballad "When Your Eyes Say It" which was no single but decent song in any case. Closer "Dear Diary" a teen-anthem was co-written by Spears but isn't among the better songs. On the European version 3 more songs appeared "Girl in the Mirror", "You Got It All" and "Heart".

Overall, What more can I say that this is quite simular to her her debut album with more Martin compositions that are catchy pop songs. But it isn't a sophmore slump, it's just as good as her debut. No matter what you think of her or her music atlest it's damn catchy and the songs are better then alot of pop music these days with it's meliodic compositions and irressistable hooks. 3'5 stars to this album too. Props to Max Martin.

Ps. I decided to review these old albums cause she's up with a new album this year and I wanted to go back in time and recall how she used to sound.

5 out of 5 stars Britney at her Zenith of fame!.......2007-03-25

I remember watching TRL when the "oops I did it again" video was first revealed to the world. Britney and Justin were both on hand (it was a huge event). The video was spectacular. Britney in a tight red suit, flames in the background, on the planet mars. Britney was so angelic and beautiful.

When her next album came out featuring the sexually deviant, "Im a slave for you", I knew the Britney career was headed in the wrong direction. People fell in love with this Britney (the alleged virgin), not the bad and dirty Britney.

I knew the Britney career was nothing more then a marketing ploy, but I ate it up anyway. She stood for youth, innocence, and all that was good.

No matter what you think about her fake career, we should all hope that she gets better for her children. Britney was exploited and abused by the industry and media. The Britney we see today is a product of that exploitation. I hope she will be able to sort her life out.

However coy she might be in her public statements, Britney Spears leans more than a bit toward the provocative on In the Zone. Less concerned with aiming at the mainstream radio dial than in the first days of her career, she and her collaborators make this as street and club ready a record as possible. The opening duet with Madonna, "Me Against the Music," is worthy, but the bigger superstar's presence serves almost less as a performance than a key to Britney's intentions: as Madonna did on albums such as Erotica , Ray of Light, and Music, she's out to bend current trends to her needs. R. Kelly, Moby, and Ying Yang Twins all provide stirring moments that draw on everything from Bollywood to Southern hip-hop, while one of the most impressive tracks, "Touch of My Hand," joins the proud tradition of Cyndi Lauper's "She Bop." She still lacks a fully formed artistic vision of her own, but Zone, with its many get-free anthems, puts her much closer. --Rickey Wright

To anyone who has ever listening to good music....I don't need to say anything but...come on it's britney....it's garbage.

5 out of 5 stars Great Pop Music CD.......2007-05-04

I purchased this Britney CD recently because I'd somehow lost my Britney collection over the years due to loaning them out and household moves. I really like this CD, especially the song "Everytime." I can't wait for Britney's 5th album to come out later this year.

1 out of 5 stars Birtney Spears has not yet broken out of her shell.......2007-03-20

Sure, this cover can say she looks good and trying to look hot. She's trying so hard to give off an image that's not her. She's being and mostly acts like a tramp.Have you seen her videos?

Brintey can not break out of her shell and between the rebelious and outrageous lyrics,I see a sad girl being consumed by the media.Sure, she laughs and she looks as if she is having a good time on her videos but come on!Briney hides behind her clothes and lyrics and her record deal. It's all tenn pop lyrics penned down on her notepad while she's waiting in line!

I am dissapointed and I hope she writes better songs but from the heart,go Britney!Britney rock on please!!

In the six years since her debut CD ...Baby One More Time set Billboard charts a-trembling, Britney Spears has pried open pop music's rusty cage and sprinkled her sex-kittenish fairy dust around like long-overdue disinfectant. She has also arguably done more for the neglected navel than Jennifer Lopez and Beyonce have done for the derriere.

4 out of 5 stars Musical junk food: Not always a bad thing.......2007-07-07

It's pretty daring of Britney to have released a greatest hits package after four or so albums, but she has had some mega hits. People can argue whether she's solid crap or solid gold as an artist, but she's definitely gotten a lot of attention, probably least of all for her music. Especially lately.
This is a great collection, though, in terms of dance music, with Toxic, I'm a Slave 4 U, Oops I Did It Again, and Baby Hit Me One More Time and more (I still don't like that Madonna collaboration she did, though, just offputting to me!). I wanted something with some poppy, dancey elements to it, and wasn't disappointed. I do love the two new tracks, as they're fun and make you want to dance, though Do Something seemed familiar to me, and then I realized it reminded me of No Doubt, off their Rock Steady album.
I'm not crazy about her ballads, as I don't think her voice is that good (and I find it odd that a lot of her tracks feature a lot of digital manipulation -- why is that? Though I think I know the answer), but I just fastforward and am perfectly happy to listen on, enjoy a little fluff and inject a little energy into my day. It's like junk food, you can't live on it, but sometimes a taste hits the spot.

5 out of 5 stars Great Pop Comp.......2007-05-08

Excellent collection of all of Britney's hits. A must have for Britney fans and a guilty pleasure for any pop music fan. Whatver you think of Britney's goofy antics in her personal life, she did do some damn good pop music. Can't help it, the stuff just got stuck in my head. Good music for when you just want to have fun, not think. This album demonstrates why Britney was the Queen of Pop for awhile. Maybe she'll come back someday, maybe she won't. Doesn't matter, she's made her mark on pop. Even her detractors prove as much - if she didn't matter, they wouldn't bother. Good stuff.

1 out of 5 stars Can you find anyone who will admit to liking this?.......2007-05-07

Once the publicity machine winds down and you sit and actually
listen to as much of this album as you can stand, you have to
wonder: did anybody really like this or did they all just agree
that they should? Could the voice track have been erased an
another substituted for it? Could it have been you? me?

I notice that the tabloids are charting the downfall of the
poor child who is the nominal artist on this album and I
wonder if anyone ever seriously thought that she could be anything
more than a footnote.

So this music now-in the light of the artiste's unravelling-can
only make us wonder how gullible we all are, and how gullible we'll
be next time.

Lynn Hoffman, author The New Short Course in Wine

3 out of 5 stars Eh.. why not?.......2007-02-03

Why even browse through her other albums? Cream of the crop right here.. no need to buy any of those other ones for the one good song and then the fodder.

Definate must-buy for Britney fans.. other than that it's passable.

5 out of 5 stars Essential.......2006-08-15

Ah yes, it's pretty damn satisfying to slam Britney Spears (who, BTW, is far less flaked than Janis Joplin ever was). I held a graduate degree in dissing her myself. Too bad I eventually HEARD her stuff, now I have to adjust my thinking - and listening. Spears is a smart, authentic and growing artist. This collection is total techno pop - heavy on ear candy, monster beats and killer hooks. Massive fun - 'My Prerogative' and 'Toxic' are the standouts. Those who can live without this stuff will just have to experience modern times after they're retro. Whatever - half the US caught on with the Fab Four around 1970 or so.

This reissue of the Boston favorite's 1995 debut clearly highlights her greatest strength: her voice. Susan Tedeschi has been singing since she was 4 years old, and it shows; her voice has the power and control that comes from long experience. If her version of "Hound Dog" doesn't blow the top off of Big Mama Thornton's original, it's still a strong effort, and she's just as good with her own material. The title track--penned by Adrienne Hayes, guitarist for Tedeschi's band--is especially good, as the slow tempo allows Tedeschi to stretch her pipes a bit. Unfortunately, even by the release of Just Won't Burn, Tedeschi's guitar hadn't caught up with her voice, and the discrepancy is even more obvious here--there's a spark, but it doesn't quite catch fire. Still, there's no question that her heart's in the right place, and if her guitar work continues to improve, there'll be no stopping her. --Genevieve Williams

3 out of 5 stars My cat could probably mix better! I'm serious!.......2007-02-08

Fairly good CD marred by the most horrible recording / mixdown / mastering I've ever encountered on a commercial CD - nay, make that any CD! Through headphones the stereo image pumps around, indicating they did some heavy stereo compression without mixing the channels together for the control signal.

In order to listen to this without getting a terrible headache, I had to mix it down to mono and apply some fake stereo. Pathetic! Who let this thing get stamped out without even the most cursory inspection of the content quality?

[...] But please, please, please play blues guitar on your next CD, OK? Shove those those studio pickers out of the way and do what you do best! And take JH out of your Rolodex!

4 out of 5 stars she's great , this recording well . . . . .......2005-07-12

this is worth owning as it's a record of susan younger . . . .

i'm really looking forward to her new album - supposedly coming out this fall

4 out of 5 stars Great music, bad production.......2003-04-01

I love Susan Tedeschi and was thrilled to get a hold of this "pre-fame" CD. It's a great CD too. Full of powerful blues that are more reminiscent of Bonnie Raitt than of Janis Joplin.

The production on this CD is really pretty spotty. The first track "It's Up to You" has a very muddy quality to it and "It Hurts Me Too" is painful to listen to on headphones with the mixing from left to right channels constantly moving. Most of the tracks however, are adequately mixed.

All in all, this is well worth listening to if you're a Tedeschi fan, but her following CD's are far superior to this one. She just keeps getting better.

4 out of 5 stars A good record.......2002-09-30

Like most people, I fell in love with Susan Tedeschi after hearing "Just Won't Burn". It became the soundtrack of my senior year in high school...so I immediately bought "Better Days", and at first listen, I was disappointed. Nothing seemed to click. It wasn't bad, just okay. I set it aside for a couple months and just recently started listening to it again. I don't know why I didn't love it before! Some of the songs almost have a country feel, like the first track. Most are mellow blues, but they still rock. I can't wait for the new album!

5 out of 5 stars This gal knows how to play the blues!.......2002-07-12

I first heard Ms. Tedeschi when she opened for B.B. King in his year 2000 tour. What a night! I happen to be a big fan of the blues, and when I heard those performers, I was more than impressed! But Ms. Tedeschi stood out from the rest, because she expresses such a great amount of talent. You can tell that she loves her work! She can really play the blues, and her voice is just the icing on the cake!
It's hard to say which song on this album is my favorite. It's like trying to decide which one of your children you love more. But I will say that her interpretation of "Hound Dog" is not one to be missed. I would also have to say that the instrumental work on "You're On My Hair" is great! Not to mention, she can play a mean slide guitar! (When you hear "Locomotive" you'll know what I mean). I recommend this album to anyone who has a deep respect for the blues, you won't be disappointed!

4 out of 5 stars awesome music.......2007-04-11

I love this album by Britney. Lost of great music. The whole album makes you want to dance. If ypu like Pop music this is the album for you.

5 out of 5 stars Successful metamorphosis.......2005-04-21

With her first two albums Britney Spears proved to everyone that throne of Madonna - The Queen Of Pop is in serious danger. And now with her third album simply entitled "Britney" it seems she can also take away the crown from Janet Jackson - The Queen Of R'n'B. After listening to this album I think it's a question of time.

This is expanded, the best edition of this album, because besides all 12 songs from its standard version it contains all 3 brilliant bonus tracks from its Japanese edition.

This album is a bridge between Spears' pop past and her r'n'b future because besides up-tempo pop songs written and produced by Max Martin, who is responsible for huge success of her previous albums which made her the biggest pop star on Earth, above all it surprises with completely brand new r'n'b sound. All because Britney's new producers Rodney Jerkins and The Neptunes showed her a new way of searches in music and wrote for her almost half of all songs on this album. It caused very successful metamorphosis of her music. Such big pop artists like Justin Timberlake and Dido also wrote some material. And even Spears co-wrote five songs.

All this album is very catchy and even its bonus tracks and b-sides are among the most marvellous things Spears ever did. Especially astonishing "Before The Goodbye" and "I Run Away", which along with "Cinderella" are definitely some of her best tunes ever. Other great songs are such r'n'b jewels like: "I'm A Slave 4 U", "Lonely", "What It's Like To Be Me" or "Let Me Be" and such pop pearls like: "Bombastic Love", "Overprotected" and beautiful ballad "I'm Not A Girl, Not Yet A Woman".

There is also expanded edition of this album, which besides all 12 songs from its standard version contains only 2 from 3 Japanese bonus tracks, but also 3 very good remixes of album's biggest hits and DVD with her 3 videos, interview and Pepsi's commercial.

Every fan of Spears, Madonna or especially Janet Jackson must have this album. Like always, it's full of great songs and so fresh production. This time you can choose either this edition with 15 songs (without DVD and remixes but with all Japanese bonus tracks) or that with DVD (but either with ballad "I Run Away" or with dance masterpiece "Before The Goodbye"). So choose your edition and enjoy!

5 out of 5 stars yes!.......2004-09-30

If you want to get a copy of Britney Spears' album, "Britney," then this is DEFINITELY the one to get. This is the ONLY version of "Britney" that includes ALL 3 of the following bonus tracks: "Before The Goodbye," "I Run Away," and "When I Found You." Plus, it still has the enhanced portion with the "Crossroads"-outtakes "Overprotected" video like on the original U.S. version. PLUS, I don't know if this version was possibly re-mastered, but to me the music sounds cleaner and fuller than on the original U.S. version. I even compared the two to make sure it wasn't my imagination. I definitely recommend buying this CD; and I also recommend accompanying it with the single of "I'm A Slave 4 U," which includes the other bonus track from the "Britney" sessions, "Intimidated," for the complete "Britney" experience.

5 out of 5 stars GREAT! This is the "Britney" CD --TO BUY--.......2004-07-08

Don't get the normal version of Britney which doesn't has the 3 bonus tracks... BUY THIS ONE! It's only $18 which is..what? The price of any normal regular CD?

The 3 bonus songs are great...truly some of the best of Brit's career. It's a shame these weren't on the original edition of "Britney" ... but if you're thinking about buying this version of the album, DO IT! You won't regret it.

Before The Goodbye, I Run Away, and When I Found You are great tracks and some of Brit's best. This is such a good deal!

4 out of 5 stars Dance!.......2004-06-09

This album makes me want to dance.. I love the song I love Rock and Roll... The song overprotected has a funky beat!

5 out of 5 stars She's Done it Again - and Again!.......2002-07-12

Personally, this is my favorite of Britney's albums. It's upbeat, and really fun to listen to. Plus her three extra tracks, Heart, Girl in the Mirror, and You Got it All, are some of my favorite songs. Especially Girl in the Mirror, which will probably speak to all girls my age. Buy this album - it's essential for all Britney fans!

5 out of 5 stars The extra songs make this cd a must have.......2001-11-29

5 out of 5 stars One of the best (reviews are out of 5).......2001-01-22

Britney is a great gal with a great singing voice. Her first song oops i did it again is the best on this cd even though it sounds similar to baby one more time but more funked up. 5000/5 stronger is also a great song its fast and has a great chorus. 4900/5 dont go knocking.. is a fantastic pacing r&b song. 4900/5 i can't get no... is good, i hate the part when britney sings i can't get no and the volume starts to rise. it scared me. 900/5 6. What You See a good song and has some attitude to it. 4500/5 7. Lucky a sweet song, but some people say that this song makes her seem up herself which i don't think she is. She just does not care about fame and fortune. I think britney cares about her life more than money. 4500/5 8. One Kiss From You another funky song with a summer beat. 4900/5 9. Where Are You Now a slow song, but it is very mellow and seems to come from brtieny's heart. the chorus is breathtaking. 3599/5 10. Can't Make You Love Me another song which is great and fast. again says she will give up fame and fortune to be with someone. 3800/5 11. When Your Eyes Say It a slow song, but still wonderful.3000/5 12. Girl In The Mirror it sounds like a ballad from the 70's.but this song is excellent. its the best bonus song on the album. 4900/5 13. You Got It All another wonderful song which sounds like a ballad from the 80's. it also has some attitude to it. 4000/5 14. Heart is such a marvelous song. its so mellow and sweet. i wish britney could sing it too me. highest number in the world /5 15. Dear Diary a great, sweet song which she wrote. i hope that she was writing it for me.4800/5
