A few months back I watched a PBS special by James Last. One of the songs struck me in particular: Biscaya. I had not heard this song in nearly twenty years. Having only recently become acquainted with amazon.com, the first word I typed in search was "biscaya".

The CD arrived today. I immediately fell in love all over again with a piece of music that is, in this reviewer's opinion, one of the all-time greatest instrumentals. It is truly unfortunate that James Last and his music is not widely known this side of the Atlantic. It is a pity.

Thank you amazon.com for allowing me to listen to this wonderful music again. My day has been made... By the way, the entire disc is absolutely lovely. If you love great instrumental music, BISCAYA should be in your collection.)

James Last Orchestra, to me, is the best of the best . I know his music for years. I had an opportunity to see James Last Orchestra in 1972. I am a collector, and I have many CDs of his wonderful craft of pop music interpretations.

A mini-vacation on a disc.......2000-09-22

Listening to this disc brought images of basking in the sun on a beach in the French Riviera. The accordion melodies are captivating.James Last has, for years, been one of Europe's best bandleaders. His veratility is legendary. One listen and you'll be hooked.

Wonderful easy listening music.......1999-03-05

Very unusual sound but also very easy listening and relaxing music. We've had the tape for years and enjoyed it immensely.

This is how new age was meant to sound. Actually, this album cant really be classified as new age. It interweaves itself between the electronic genres, sometimes ambient, sometimes active and uplifting, but never is there a song that can be skipped. After just hearing the first tune, River Rye, you'll be hooked. Trancish beats mixed with spacey undertones makes this album a must have, in spite of the extra import cost.

i have only found this one on long play and have never seen the 14 track yet anywere,i would like it tho! but no one can provide me with more than the lp 10 track
however from the whole lp 10 track there are only 2 tracks actualy worth listening to and that's howl in the sky and singin' in harmony(maybe the actual titletrack biscaya is more in the range for vangelis fans but not realy my style,regards

Worth searching for.......2006-06-08

Biscaya is probably best described as Sweden's answer to the NWOBHM, though more similar to Demon or Diamond Head than Saxon or Judas Priest. There is also a fair share of Kansas or Queen-like progressive elements as well. It's an interesting mix, but it works pretty well. The band's self-titled 1983 debut album (their only release) is heavy, melodic, and somewhat progressive, and sits somewhere between metal and melodic hard rock.

The Japanese import version of this album, released by BMG in 1996 as part of their Eternal Master Works series, adds 4 bonus tracks - Hit It Hard, Space Bop, Swinging to a Melody, and Greg's Song.

This won't appeal to everyone, but die-hard fans of 80's rock and metal, particularly those into relatively obscure bands like Demon, Rail, and Axe, should find this album to be a welcome addition to their collections.
