All hail the return of novelty music's reigning king! Straight Outta Lynwood easily bests 2003's Poodle Hat and shows that Yankovic does know what he does best. Part of the secret to Weird Al's success is that he's never been very weird at all, and very rarely are his satires in any way "biting"--or even satires, really. The 11-minute parody of R. Kelly's "Trapped in the Closet" is funny at least for the first listen, but it's hard to ridicule something so largely ridiculous in the first place (plus Jimmy Kimmel totally got the jump on him). The best thing Mr. Yankovic has always done is to take some decent pop tune, change a word or phrase, invent an entirely new premise for the tune, and make an inspired video to go along with it. He does that several times here; Green Day's "American Idiot" becomes the hockey-obsessed "Canadian Idiot," and "White & Nerdy" is a truly inspired take on Chamillionaire's "Ridin'." That song (and video, included here on the dual-disc CD/DVD) is breakneck-paced and so funny it's a disservice to quote from it at all. "Polkarama!" is a return to W.A.'s novelty roots: a handful of mildly dated hit songs (50 Cent to Modest Mouse!) delivered in straight-ahead, sped-up polka style. It's toe-tapping and sweet. Hopefully we'll not have to wait three years for another Weird Al record. --Mike McGonigalAlbum Description

I almost died laughing........2007-06-28
I'll go through track by track:
White and Nerdy: Funny, I've heard this before so it didn't seem as new, but as a computer programmer I got a lot of good laughs. And I do hand-code HTML4!
Pancreas: Another novelty artist named Mindless Drug Hoover released a song with the same name and a similar concept. I wondered if by some weird hand of Eris, Weird Al had done the same song, but nope! He did something even more insane, even tying in things like gravity.
Canadian Idiot: I don't listen to much pop music, so haven't heard the originals, but another fun song making fun of racism. Everyone bags on Canadians anyway. One note: Weird Al even parodies the war.
I'll Sue Ya: Okay, here we go, definitely a favorite song. As said, after the first verse I wondered if I would join my friend, and if I could even handle a second verse! I did leave Earthlink, because I became dissatisfied with their tech support, so that struck a chord. Everyone has had issues with Verizon. And don't even mention New Jersey! I see this listed as an original song, but it sounds like a song done in the style of Rage against the Machine. Perfect! I really enjoy it when he doesn't parody a song per se, but parodies a group or style. This has always brought out his creativity. Sadly, some of the ridiculous things he yells out have actually happened (a guy sued someone for breaking his ankle while robbing his place.) I love this song!
Polkarama: Another classic Polka tune. As said I don't listen to much popular music, so for me these Polka songs provide a good insulated way to absorb the dirtier music of this time. I'll stick with these versions!
Virus Alert: Another great computer song! The main part would make a great sound alert. It has one of those catchy melodies and concepts that will just stay in your head for days, especially the next time your antivirus software alerts you with a new update! Virus Alert! (You could, of course, just use Linux, but we'll save that for another rant.)
Confession Part III: I don't know if he parodied a song here, or simply parodied the style of the current music, but either way he did a hilarious job. Every guy will love the last spoken line of the song.
Weasel Stomping Day: A little silly song, not much to say, but have fun!
Close but No Cigar: Okay, now I have a confession to make. I downloaded this album on bittorrent, and this song didn't play, so I did not hear it. I feel doubly glad I bought the CD.
Do I Creep You Out: Okay, I've heard the original, but can't put my finger on it. In a silly way, I consider this a song from every guy to every girl!
Trapped in the Drive Thru: I've heard the original referenced, and saw the South Park episode, an can imagine the original. This song treks in at around eleven minutes, and it does sort of go on, fut for me, this just added to the theme of the song, a tedius hunger-driven trip to the drive thru.
Don't Download this Song: A great capper for the album. Doubly funny since my downloaded copy missed a track, as if to underscore the point. It reminds me of the South Park episode which covered this theme. Buy my CD so I can afford a diamond-studded swimming pool. Classic!
In summary, I love this album, and consider it one of his best. I know my friend would have loved it too! Through various events, I know Weird Al as a very compassionate human being, and in his own way, a visionary.
It will have you ROTFLOL........2007-06-24
"Weird Al" comes "Straight Outta Lynwood" and right onto the Billboard charts.......2007-06-10
It turns out that "Straight Outta Lynwood" is Yankovic's most successful album of all time and his most successful single with "White & Nerdy" making it all the way to #9 on the Billboard Hot 100 ("Eat It" was his previous top single which made it to #12). I still think "Running With Scissors" is his best album, but I am definitely heartened to know Yankovic is going strong. With albums coming out every three or four years he appears to have found his stride. There is the obligatory polka medley and several new style parodies, with "Pancreas" (Brian Wilson), "I'll Sue Ya" (Rage Against the Machine), "Virus Alert" (Sparks), "Close But No Cigar" (Cake), and "Don't Download This Song" (fundraiser songs). The surprise is that I liked the style parodies more than I did the parodies of particular songs, which is obviously turning my "Weird Al" universe upside down.
My only problem with this album is clearly my personal problem because with the exception of "Canadian Idiot" I had to look at the liner notes to find out which songs were parodies and which were originals. The fact that I had not heard (or perhaps only not remembered) "White & Nerdy" is a parody of "Ridin'" by Chamillionaire (featuring Krayzie Bone) was received with jaw-dropping astonishment by my daughters. I am down to recognizing only three songs out of 14 in the album's pokla medley, "Polkarama!" ("Let's Get it Started," "Don't Cha," and "Pon de Replay"). I had forgotten that Taylor Hicks had done "Do I Make You Proud," but I do not think I am alone in that regard. But I had no idea "Trapped in the Drive-Thru" is based on a R. Kelly song, although I did recognize Led Zeppelin's "Black Dog" when it popped up.
Flip over the CD and you get to the DVD, which has animated videos for all of the original songs, namely: "Don't Download This Song," "I'll Sue Ya," "Virus Alert," "Close But No Cigar," "Pancreas" and "Weasel Stomping Day." The videos for "White & Nerdy," "Do I Creep Your Out," "Canadian Idiot," and "Trapped in the Drive-Thru" are all for parodies and for some reason that justified exclusion (insert pout here). The videos are followed by a short documentary that simply shows Yankovic and his band recording some of the songs and paying testament to his attention to detail. You can also listen to the entire album with the lyrics as subtitles, each song accompanied by a photograph of Yankovic from infancy to young adulthood (his parents liked the triple image option). Finally, you can do the karaoke function and get the music and the lyrics so you can sing the songs yourself. Consequently, there are enough extras here to justify rounding up on the disc overall.
Concert Update: So last night "Weird Al" came to town and as I suspected they set up two rows in the orchestra pit for winners of radio contests for tickets (sigh). But during one of the songs (that does not appear on any of the albums) he came down in the audience. Al was singing to the women in the audience but when he was walking in front of it was all dads and kids, so he sang to my oldest daughter (she just got accepted into the Peace Corp to go do what she wants to do where she wants to do it so she is having a good week). We also picked up over a thousand dollars in "Weird Al" money. For the record, he does complete versions of five songs from this album (1, 3, 4, 5, 9), excerpts from three more (7, 10, 11), and one music video (8).
Loved it!!.......2007-05-29
I loved "White and Nerdy" straight away (I am White and Nerdy accorging to my wife) and the song nails a few asects of the nerd culture that I perssonally have seen or experienced so it was quite a treat!
"Pancreas" is an AWESOME tribute to Brian Wilson and his style of music (if you are too young to know who Mr. Wilson is....listen to the beach boys and check out some of his own albums).
I also thought "Canadian Idiot" was great!! Being a Floridian and knowing a bunch of seasonal Canadians it was rather funny and hit home!!
Close But No Cigar was an excellent song that was an abvious style parody of CAKE. Loved the words to the song and the little flaws that made him break up with each gorgeous woman!!
I could list reasons for liking all the songs but I don't want to take up too much space!! Let me just say that you will love this album as long as you give it a chance!!
Don't forget to visit Weird Al's website and get the free parody "You're Pitiful" (parody of "You're Beautiful") which was originally going to be on the album but was tanked at the last minute do to record company lawyers.
One more thing. This album is a dual disc. One side plays as a DVD the other as a CD. This disc MAY NOT play in certain drives or DC players so just be careful!!
The videos were hilarious though!!
"That's not why I bought this album".......2007-05-26
Sure Al's parodies are all great fun, but that's not why I bought this album. Sure this whole album is fraught with hilarity, but that's not why a bought this album. I didn't even buy this album because of all the cool video's included. IT'S THE MUSIC, MAN. That's why I bought this album. Can this Al guy sing or what - even if he is a little weird. (Although, I'm not too sure about the weird part, but that's what Al keeps telling everyone so I'll go along with it.)
Case in point; So there I was, sitting in my mini van at a red light, jamming to the music, not really paying any attention to the lyrics, just enjoying the sounds the band and singers were putting out. With my head bobbin' to the beat and hands drumming on the steering wheel, I noticed an elderly lady in the car next to me looking my way. She seemed to have an air of disdain about her at seeing a gentleman of my years acting like some dang fool kid. That very moment is when my ears picked up on the words "I blew my nose and wiped it on your cat". The lyric caught me totally off guard and I spontaneously burst into laughter. Seeing that, the lady snapped her head forward, stomped on the accelerator and speed through the red light trying to get away from that dang fool (being myself) as fast as she could.
Well, I guess that probably isn't why you should by this album either, but I can tell ya... This double CD sure is a lot of fun and you will absolutely enjoy the music.

Poodle Hat!.......2007-05-29
Poodle Hat runs the gambit as far as variety. Every song is worthy of multiple listens and suitable for sing-along.
1. Couch Potato:
A well-deserved direct parody of everything Eminem writes. Poking fun at "Lose Yourself," (the agonizing Oscar winning song) the song is based upon literally letting your television run your entire life. Everything from game shows to dramas from around the TV Guide is mentioned.
2. Hardware Store:
A whimsical song about a guy whose has one purpose in life. He wants to be the first in line and through the door when the newest hardware store in town opens. He's so excited to perhaps be one of the lucky consumers to receive a free ball peen hammer. This one will be a bit difficult to sing along with. Part of the song involves an enormously long list of everything possibly found in a hardware store. How Al got through the list in one breath, I will never know.
3. Trash Day:
If any song in the history of music deserved to be parodied, it was Nelly's "Hot in Here." Yankovic takes his turn at it by serenading the listener with the tale of how his house is a horrible, utter catastrophe. Disgusting things are happening in his abode, and he leaves no detail left unsaid.
4. Party at the Leper Colony:
Every so often, (four times on this album alone) Al takes certain jargon and turns them into comedic song. In this particular song, any and every quote you can think of containing a body part is hilariously packed into an upbeat, jazzy, toe tapping tune about (what else?) a Party at the Leper Colony! From "cat got your tongue" to "everyone cut footloose" and including "won't cost you an arm and a leg" are put to good use.
5. Angry White Boy Polka:
A few years ago, it was apparent on radio stations around the country, there are a lot of ticked off young men. In a tradition on his albums, he takes popular songs and sings them to a polka beat. Not only does it break down the fact that these singers should really stop whining and yelling so much, it also packs in a lot of decent songs and makes most of them listenable.
6. Wanna B Ur Lovr
Imagine every god awful pickup line you've either have used or heard. Now hear them with the beloved and twisted Weird Al comedic spin. With lines such as: "You must've fallen from heaven, that would explain how you messed up your face," the hilarity keeps coming nonstop.
7. A Complicated Song
A rich parody of the deservingly ludicrous song by Avril Lavigne. Weird Al takes the listener from a failed pizza party to an unfortunate accident at a local theme park. All the while, he has fun singing different and constantly hilarious rhymes to "complicated."
8. Why Does This Always Happen To Me.
Just when you think Al is going to grace us with a beautifully written and touching song about world events, he turns it around. This song is basically from the mind of one of the most selfish humans on the face of the earth. Everything that could go wrong in his life does. It's a brilliantly funny song.
9. Ode to a Superhero
One of the best parodies Al has ever done, in my eyes. This song almost beat for beat and lyric for lyric tells the story of the first Spider-Man movie to the tune of Billy Joel's Piano Man. The last few albums have had some pretty good parodies of classic songs, and this is simply the best. Lines such as: "Peter Parker was pitiful/couldn't be any shier/Mary Jane wouldn't notice him/even if his hair was on fire, makes this a song to definitely listen to over and over.
10. Bob
To me, and I feel I'm alone; this is one of Weird Al's most brilliant songs. With the first listen, it sounds just like a bunch of non-sensical lyrics. But when you listen to the style in which he's singing (like a world famous and constantly misunderstood folk singer.) Then put that Bob Dylan attitude together with the words (all palindromes,) it becomes more and more catchy.
11. EBay
If there was ever a deserving song to be made fun of, it's pretty much anyone by The Backstreet Boys. The fad boy band got what they richly deserved by Weird Al singing a tune bragging about what odd and totally useless items he's found on everyone's favorite internet auction site.
12. Genius in France
This is certainly one of Yankovic's meanest songs to date. Basically, the entire (and long) song is one big put down on all things French. According to Al, even if you're the dumbest schmuck in the world, you're still considered a genius in gay Parie!
Awesome! You'll warm up to it.......2007-02-17
4/5 Couch potato: I loved it. Drags on a bit when he names all the channels, but an awesome song...and I hate rap.
5/5 Hardware Store: Awesome song. Too funny! I love the list of tools. I love that he slips these wacky tools in with real ones.
4/5 Trash Day: Funny but a little gross. Still liked it though
4/5 Party at the Leper Colony: Terrible, gross, and hilarious. But I've a sick sense of humor.
3/5 Angry White Boy Polka: Funny but a little drawn out. I love how he switches between different styles
5/5 Wanna B Ur Lovr: Really bad pick up lines which makes it all the funnier
5/5 A Complicated Song: Nasty but so funny! I love it
4/5 Why Does This Always Happen to Me: Almost a satire really. How many of us think this? Not to that extreme but still
5/5 Ode to a Superhero: So funny! Who else can some up a movie in song so well and be so funny doing it?
6/5!! Bob: Awesome! One of my favorite songs by him. I'm rolling everytime I hear it!
4/5 E-Bay: Very funny and I like it. Just not as funny as other songs. I love his choice of songs to parody though.
3/5 Genius in France: nutty and frenetic. Very long and constantly changing. Took me several tries to listen all the way through. Once I did I liked it

The king of pop parodies returns with another zany collection of tunes that poke fun at pop culture. There are a handful of undeniably funny moments--notably "The Saga Begins," which pairs the tune to Don McLean's horrendously sentimental "American Pie" with the plot to the first Star Wars prequel, and a fun, nonstop-dancing polka medley of late-'90s hits that starts with the Spice Girls and ends with Semisonic. Overall, Running with Scissors is well-executed and actually humorous, but the material is a day late and a dollar short. "Pretty Fly for a Rabbi" is funny once, maybe, but the majority of the disc consists of tepid takes on yesterday's news; the best jokes are devoted to Jerry Springer, Eddie Vedder, the Swing craze, and this place called Silicon Valley where they make computers. Why didn't someone tell Weird Al that a parody of Nine Inch Nails' lifeless industrial pop would have already sounded dated in 1995? It must be hard to stay on top of all the current trends and parody them as they happen, but that is something that Weird Al has done in the past, and perhaps will do again. --Mike McGonigalCustomer Reviews:
Keep it coming.......2007-07-24
First off is "The Saga Begins" a funny Star Wars song with Obi Wan telling the story of the first Episode.
Then there's " My Baby's in Love With Eddie Veder" I myself have never hear of Eddie Veder but all the same, the song is very funny with Al's girl friend falling head-over-heels in love with Eddie.
Then there's "Pretty Fly For a Rabbi" anoth great parody of "Pretty Fly For a White Guy". The song's very funny!
Then "Weird Al Theme Song" which of course was the theme song for his saturday morning show.
There's much much more but I'm going to stop here. The album is great! You'd have to be an idiot to say it's boring and not funny.
But before I leave off I want to tell you about the last song, "Albuquerque". LOL!!! I laughed my butt off listening to it! It's hard to describe, more a story than a song, but non-the-less knock-your-shoes-off funny!
If I could give this album ten stars I most certainly would!
Keep up the awesome work Al!
Another Great Al-Bum.......2007-06-26
The Saga Begins:
Suffice it to say, based upon this song and his own classic (at least in my home) "Yoda" from his Dare To Be Stupid album, Mr. Yankovic is a fan of the Star Wars films. Since this album was released shortly after the much ballyhooed Star Wars - Episode I, The Phantom Menace (Widescreen Edition) came out, even Al had to admit there was much more wrong with the film then there was right. So, as a little dedication to such awfulness, he tells the tale of the first film to the tune of 'American Pie.' Instead of "Bye, bye Miss American Pie", Weird Al croons "My My, this here Anakin guy..." Another of the many dead on parodies from Al.
My Baby's In Love With Eddie Vedder
I personally don't understand what Yankovic was going for with this song. But apparently, his girlfriend at the time was a very huge fan of singer Eddie Vedder. This is disheartning to Al, since he isn't such a big fan.
Pretty Fly for A Rabbi
A direct takeoff of the hit song "Pretty Fly for a White Guy" by the Offspring. The original song was a pretty silly one on it's own. But, I believe since it was so overly popular, Weird Al just had to throw in his own version. But instead of a dorky White Guy yearning for an ode of coolness, a local Rabbi is popular with all the kids. He works hard, and has fun! Shalom!
The Weird Al Show Theme
Needless to say, this is the theme song used for the short lived, and horribly treated The Weird Al Show - The Complete Series. It's a fast paced and hilarious adventure through Yankovic's imaginary day and how he came across his underground clubhouse.
Jerry Springer
I personally can't stand Springer in any medium. There's very little talented needed in allowing white trash on stage to fight while standing there watching them. At first, I didn't like the Barenaked Ladies original version: 'One Week.' However, according to Al, the members of the band are pretty good friends with him and he wanted to give an musical 'shout out' to them with this song based upon the Jerry Springer show and all the utterly ridiculousness that goes on there. Just as fast paced as the original and quite a bit more hilarious.
Germs
While not a direct parody of any one song, this one is more of a song in the style of numerous Nine Inch Nails songs, or albums for that matter. From Weird Al's point of view, he's slowly becoming obsessive about 'all the microscopic organisms living on my skin.' Crying out how they're 'all over me' and he 'can't get them off of me.' A pretty catchy song if you like the industrial sound of Trent Reznor and company.
Polka Power
The traditional medly of the popular songs during the albums original release set to polka music. At one time it's often hilarious to hear all the songs in a sort of twisted, musical time capsule. On the other end, it's just funny hearing these popular, often very 'serious' songs being sung to the tune of polka music.
Your Horoscope for Today
Yankovic takes us through each and every Zodiac sign for his own sick and twisted version of what every newspaper shovels out daily. Unfortunately, according to his sources, there's not about to be a good day in sight for anyone any time soon. Tragic, yes. Hilarious, yes again.
It's All About the Pentiums
Weird Al raps yet again. This time to the tune of "All About the Benjamins" by P. Diddy. It's my personal favorite of the album. Al as a tough 'gangsta' type who is also a proud computer nerd AND bully is more than hilarious. The video is brilliant as well, which can be seen here: Weird Al Yankovic - The Ultimate Video Collection.
Truck Drivin' Song
In a word: Odd. Brilliant yes, but extremely odd. At the same time, hearing Weird Al with his best baratone voice singing as a gruff road-weary truck driver singing about how he's wearing high heels, a feather boa, and hoping his makeup doesn't run is just amazingly funny.
Grapefruit Diet
Some may not remember, but there was a short time in which "Swing" music was back in style for about three weeks. During said time, Brian Setzer released a catch song called "Zoot Suit Riot." With the big band sound and 50's era guitar riffs, it was a hit. Such a hit in fact, Al took a jab at it with this brilliant masterpiece. Yet another in a long line of food based songs, it's another hilarious work of a morbidly obese man and his desperate need to lose weight. Since nothing else has worked, he's decided to eat nothing but grapfruits! Hilarity ensues!
Albuquerque
Have you sat with a friend and that friend wanted to tell you this hilarious anecdote? The only catch is, the anecdote is more like a novel spoken first hand. In this roughly 12 minute track, Al amusingly tells the story of how he wound up in the beloved New Mexico city.

"Running With Scissors" by Weird Al Yankovic.......2007-06-13
An Album by Weird Al Yankovic Manufactured 1999
12 Songs, $20.00
Its polka time! Put on your lederhosen and grab your accordion because your bout to hear one of the greatest CD`s of all time. It is called "Running With Scissors" by artist "Weird Al
Yankovic". In Running With Scissors, Weird Al Yankovic parodies 12 of the most popuar songs from the past with a traditional polka medley thats fun to sing and listen to! This CD is very comical, as Weird Al Yankovic is a musical comedian.
Weird Al has been doing this sort of thing since the late 1970`s, and he has become a favorie to those who don`t take life too seriously (or at least shouldn`t). One of the most enjoyed songs on "Running With Scissors" is "The Saga Begins", which is aparody of the hit song "American Pie" from the 1970`s where he describes the first Star Wars movie. "The Saga Begins" is not the only good song, there are many more on this great CD.
On every CD, Weird Al has an original "made-up" song. "Albuquerque" is about Weird Al Yankovic`s fictional life in Albuquerque, New Mexico. It is truly unique with lyrics so long that they cannot be provided on the lyric packet (inside the CD). In its place, Al Yankovic
sarcastically writes, "You know what? THe rest of the lyics won`t fit here. What a drag, huh?
We all just feel just horrible about this. Well, I guess you will just have to listen really carefully and try to figure out the rest of the words for yourself. Good Luck." He really has a sense of humor!
Al Yankovic has an entire band. He is the leac vocal, who also plays the accordion and keyboards. The other band members consist of Al`s friendss. They are: Jim West, who plays guitar and banjo, Steve Jay, who plays bass guitar, and Jon "Bermuda" Schwartz (get it?- Bermuda shorts) who plays drums, percussion, and and is the band`s official historian. The all provide background vocals. Al`s group is based in Los Angeles, not far from Al`s birthplace in Lynwood, California.
"Running With Scissors" has become very famous. In 1999, the album was featured in three CD charts. In "The Billboard 200" and "The Top Canadian Albums" it ranked as the sixteenth best album. In hthe "Top Internet Albums" it was the third best, and two of the hit s ongs were "The Saga Begins" and "Its All About The Pentiums." THis is truly a timeless CD! All of its tunes are wonderfully handpicked! Don't be shy and give it a try, I know you will love it.
Great C.D.......2007-06-08
Song One is a paradie of American Pie and is about the first Star Wars prequel. There is also Pretty Fly for a white guy, and A One Week Parade about people on Jerry Springer. Great Stuff!!

Superstar Michael Jackson gets sent up twice: "Bad" is transformed into "Fat" and "Beat It" becomes "Eat It," a hit in its own right. Robert Palmer's "Addicted to Love" is turned into a paean to potatoes, "Addicted to Spuds." And Los Lobos' version of the durable "La Bamba" is reconfigured into "Lasagna." Madonna's "Like a Virgin" becomes a song about a different kind of beginner on "Like a Surgeon," while James Brown's "Living in America" is parodied on "Living with a Hernia." If you want to take a funhouse mirror trip back to the 1980s, Greatest Hits is a good way to do it. Produced by rock & roll veteran Rick Derringer, who rocked out with Johnny and Edgar Winter and produced Meatloaf and Kiss. --Fred CisternaCustomer Reviews:

Smells like Nirvana.......2007-07-10
Almost The Best.......2007-04-22
Smells Like Nirvana is a parody of Smells Like Teen Spirit by Nirvana. It is about two minutes shorter than the original, but I still give it a 4/5.
Trigger Happy is a Beaach Boys style song, and might just be the best original tha Al's ever done. I give it 5/5.
I Can't Watch This is a parody of M.C. Hammer's U Can't Touch This. It;s a pretty good parody, opening Al into the rap region. I give it 4/5.
Polka Your Eyes Out is another polka, just another chronicle to the series. But, it does have a small drum solo and also is very catchy. It gets a 4/5.
I Was Only Kidding is a funny original about Al lying to his girlfriend about getting married etc. Pretty godd, 4/5.
The White Stuff is a parody of New Kids On The Block's The Right Stuff, it's just a normal parody about Al loving the oreo filling so much he spreads it on toast. 4/5.
When I Was Your Age is another original about a grandpa telling his grandkid about how rough his childhood was. 4/5
Taco Grande might just be one of the best parodies Al has ever done. It parodies Gerardo's Rico Suave, and is very catchy and tasty. I love it, it gets a 5/5.
Airline Amy is an original about Al falling in love with an airplane stewardess. 4/5
The Plumbing Song is a Parody of Milli Vanilli's Baby Don't Forget My Number and Blame It On The Rain. Al fits the extra part very well into the song. It gets a 5/5
You Don't Love Me Anymore is an anti-love original about Al's spouse getting angry and doing weird stuff to him. Completely distasteful, 3/5.
It's a pretty good CD, with good originals and parodies and ultimatley relaunched Al's career. I give the CD a 5/5.

My favorite.......2004-09-29
Then there's of course "King Of Suede," which is I think Al's only Sting and The Police parody, and he couldn't have picked a better song. I think this was the best of all of Al's parodies, because it sounds the closest to the original of any of the ones I've heard.
Every tune on this disc is great. Even the ones I didn't mention, but I think the real reason that this is my favorite "AL"-bum is because it contains my favorite Weird Al song of all time (maybe even my favorite song period). That song is "Nature Trail To Hell." It's great! Strangely enough, though, it doesn't rank as one of Al's most popular originals, and most of the reviewers here don't seem to care for it, either. Well, if you don't mind my saying so, YOU PEOPLE ARE ALL A BUNCH OF WUSSIES. You say that this song is too gruesome, and it's not typical of Al to write something so gory. Well, obviously your forgetting the song "Happy Birthday" from his self-titled debut album. You are completely glossing over "Like A Surgeon" from "Dare To Be Stupid," in which Al says the words "I'll pull his insides out and see what he ate." You are totally neglecting to remember the "Polka Party" album which contains the popular hits "Christmas At Ground Zero," a song about nuclear holocaust, the self explanatory James Brown parody "Living With A Hernia," and of course the infamous James Taylor and Charlie Manson inspired "One of Those Days," a song about a guy who pulls the wings off of flies, and shaves a woman's head, ties her up and leaves her to die in the desert. Most of these songs are newer than "Nature Trail To Hell," but the same people who bitch and moan about THAT song don't seem to know that, yet they LOVE these other even more gruesome tracks.
Don't misunderstand me. I love all of Al's songs. I'm just trying to point out that there seems to be an epidemic among his so-called following of not knowing what his art is truly about. These "fans" all seem to think that Weird Al's albums are riddled with nothing but songs about food, and lame polka medleys. That is not the case. Any casual glance through the catalog will show you that Al has touched upon subjects from all walks of life. This includes songs about love, hate, war, stalking, yellow journalism, organized crime, addiction to TV, the aches and pains of divorce, the stress of work, social diseases, obesity, cars, weapons of mass destruction, coming of age, our fear of dentists, the evils of cloning, the Star Wars craze, the unintelligible singing of modern rock groups, and the idiocy of the French. That is just a TASTE of all the things Al has sung about. I think he has made it more than clear to us that he is plenty familiar with the hard nocks of life. So, quit pissing and moaning about the goriness of "Nature Trail To Hell," and buy this CD.
Peace, Out!

A handful of contemporary movies have whimsically looked back at the '80s. Various bands have borrowed from the time period's musical trends with a tongue-in-cheek attitude. But Weird Al was busy sending up that decade while it was still happening. On Dare to Be Stupid, Yankovic parodies, among other things, smash hits by two reigning divas of yore. "Like A Surgeon" turns Madonna's song into an inexperienced doctor's first-person account of his, uh, practice. Weird Al's version of a certain Cyndi Lauper hit proclaims, "Girls Just Want to Have Lunch." In this loony world, the object of desire in "I Want a New Drug" is transformed into a duck. On "Yoda," Yankovic targets the Kinks' early '70s hit, "Lola." Who else but Weird Al would turn a song about sexual identity and confusion into a tune about George Lucas's "wrinkled and green" creature? --Fred CisternaCustomer Reviews:

This Is The Life is a 50's song.
More of "Weird Al"'s parodies and spoofs.......2006-09-07
Those who love Huey Lewis & The News' I WANT A NEW DRUG will also love I WANT A NEW DUCK. ONE MORE MINUTE is another Yankovic original done in the style of Sha-Na-Na. Oldies-but-goodies fans will sure love that one. YODA is a tribute to the Star Wars character with Ray Davies' music to his band The Kinks' recording LOLA. GEORGE OF THE JUNGLE is just a cover of the theme from the classic cartoon show. Other Yankovic originals include SLIME CREATURES FROM OUTER SPACE,THIS IS THE LIFE(the theme from the 1984 Michael Keaton film JOHNNY DANGEROUSLY), and CABLE TV. Another one of Al's food parodies is GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE LUNCH with music from Cyndi Lauper's hit recording GIRLS JUST WANNA HAVE FUN. HOOKED ON POLKAS is a sequel to IN 3-D's POLKAS ON 45 featuring a medley of covers of non-satirical hit songs. HOP contains WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT?,STATE OF SHOCK,FOOTLOOSE,METAL HEALTH,OWNER OF A LONELY HEART and others.

Debut Is Okay, But Nothing Memorable.......2005-09-04
A lot of these songs are pretty humorous, as they are supposed to be. On this one though, there's not really any songs that are memorable like the ones off of his later albums. My favorite tracks are Gotta Boogie and My Bologna. The song Another One Rides The Bus seems to have been crudely recorded with a relatively low quality, but it is the only song on the album that sounds this way.
Overall, I'd say only pick this album up if you are a "Weird Al" purist or it is on sale. There isn't a whole lot on this CD to make it worth an everyday pickup.

The Perfect Greatest Hits Set!.......2006-02-18
A couple of chuckles - but that's it.......2005-09-20
First of all, Weird Al isn't really that funny. Sure, he's amusing in a sort of 'this is something the whole family can enjoy' sort of way, but he's not edgy and he doesn't take risks.
Furthermore, he doesn't even really bother with most of these songs. I don't know if this is meant to be a genuine 'greatest hits' or a hilarious parody of the greatest hits format, but I'm shocked if it is, because a lot of these 'songs' are mish-mashs and melodies, with very little in the way of coherence or humour to recommend them.
Anyone with a functioning sense of humour should look elsewhere. Perhaps there are better Weird Al albums, but I don't plan to waste any more money finding out.
(The two stars are for the two chuckles I got from this)

This CD serves up a mix of parodies and a batch of Yankovic originals. Weird Al's setting of Coolio's "Gangsta's Paradise" in Amish country is inspired. What better way to send up the swaggering ways of hip-hop and contemporary R&B than to transpose them to this humble, traditionalist world? Yankovic turns U2's "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me" into a song about an unpleasant visit to the dentist's office. Here drills, not deep feelings, cause screams. "The Alternative Polka," a medley of eleven mid-'90s alternative hits, drains the songs of any cool factor in five minutes flat. Listening to send-ups is like hearing two songs at once; the gap in tone cracks you up. It's fun to hear Weird Al deflate the cool attitudes, grandeur, and emotionalism of pop hits. Yankovic's generic originals, despite some funny ideas and lines, have limited appeal. --Fred CisternaCustomer Reviews:

Not as good as Running With Scissors, Poodle Hat, or Straight Outta Lynwood.......2007-01-02
Everything You Know Is Wrong: 4/5 Very confusing and weird. (al)
Cavity Search: 4/5 A little off beat for him.
Callin'In Sick: 4/5 Kind of like an 80's song.
The Alternative Polka: 4/5 Not his best polka.
Since You've Been Gone: 4/5 Too short, but has funny background lyrics.
Gump: 5/5 Once again, too short, but it's the second best parody on here.
I'm So Sick Of You: 4/5 Very random and um... crazy?
Syndicated Inc.: 5/5 One of the best TV songs that he's done.
I Remember Larry: 5/5 Just about a kid who tortured Al.
Phony Calls: 5/5 Slow, but hilarious.
The Night Santa Went Crazy: 5/5 Almost the best Christmas song ever.

The End of an Icon.......Kinda.......2006-02-14
Great!.......2005-12-15
'Amish Paradise' is probably the album's biggest draw; not only is it a perfect parody of Coolio's style and a fantastic concept song with some hilarious lyrics ('Think you're really righteous?/Think you're pure at heart?/Well, I know I'm a million times as humble as thou art!'), it's also accompanied by one of Al's most brilliant and finely produced videos and also supplied inspiration for the fantastic cover photo. 'Cavity Search' is also a fantastic parody on U2's hard rocker 'Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me', and Al delivers his Bono imitation perfectly. Only slightly lower on the laugh-o-meter are 'Phony Calls', a parody of TLC's 'Waterfalls' (it's a shame a video wasn't made for this one because TLC's classic video just begs to be parodied) and 'Gump', a parody which blends Forrest Gump with 'Lump', a great little rocker by Presidents of the USA - which, unfortunately, didn't stand the test of time as well as the aforementioned film did, so neither song nor video are quite as funny as they might have been unless you remember that band. 'Syndicated Inc.', based on Soul Asylum's 'Misery' is probably the weakest track on the album, but it gets its share of laughs.
'Everything You Know is Wrong' (loosely based on the styling of They Might Be Giants), 'Callin' In Sick' (which sounds like any nonspecific grunge band), 'I Remember Larry' and 'I'm So Sick of You' are all as good as the best of Al's original songs. Worthy of special notice are 'Since You've Been Gone', a doo-wop song with a nifty punchline that is just short enough to be a great little song; and 'The Night Santa Went Crazy', probably a follow-up to the classic 'Christmas at Ground Zero', in which Al settles some scores with Chris Cringle and it really is laugh-out-loud funny. My underdog favorite for the album though is, as always, the polka medley - 'The Alternative Polka' is one of the best of these pieces and in it Al takes the latest and coolest in alternative rock anthems and derives them of all coolness - among these are Beck's 'Loser', Alanis Morisette's 'You Oughtta Know', Nine Inch Nails' 'Closer', Smashing Pumpkins' 'Bullet With Butterfly Wings', Green Day's 'Basket Case' and Soundgarden's 'Black Hole Sun'. Bear in mind that in 1996 this was not only popular but also the most cutting-edge and critic-friendly music around and by ridiculing it Al kicks it roughly off its pedestal. Again, Al shows just how much he's tapped into modern music and also just how much pretentiousness and bulls**t there is even in the best of it.
'Bad Hair Day' is one of Weird Al's best albums; if you're looking for a good laugh and don't mind a few jokes at the expense of good music, it's well worth it. If you're a Coolio fan and you stumbled into it through 'Amish Paradise', it's also worth the purchase.
