Itzhak Perlman plays Fritz Kreisler.......2007-01-11
I love this album. I owned it in a long play record for years and now have the CD to listen to. I love violin music and this is the best.
Kreisler flies again.......2006-04-26
One of my earliest memories is of listening to Kreisler playing his works on 78 rpm records. Many of these are what Perlman is playing oon this collection. The notes make a disclaimer: Perlman is not trying to play these "like Kreisler".
Well, I own a Kreisler CD of transcriptions -- a couple of them, in fact, and the characteristics that endear his playing to us Perlman has in full measure. Perlman is fully immersed in Kreisler feeling, something he attested to in an interview ("The Violinist", on DVD) and I humbly suggest that he is unsurpassed in this repertoire. The pianist is uncannily like Kreisler's own accompanist, and the sense of nostalgia is very strong indeed!
There are three other violinists --at least-- with Kreisler collections out" Gil Shaham, Joshua Bell, and Kennedy. Of these, I think Gil Shaham does a beautiful job; I have not heard the other two.
I recommend this recording very highly indeed. The playing is as full of insidious charm and romantic almost to the point of sentimentality, which in my view is not a bad thing at all. (Gil Shaham's self-effacing style is lighter, providing a contrast for those who think that's what they want.)

Customer Reviews:
Ensemble Galilei's music is lilting, elegant and unexpected!.......2002-11-29
With their soulful playing and artful, sometimes even ephemeral arrangements, the six women of Ensemble Galilei convey a rare depth of emotion. In the insert notes, gamba player Carolyn Ann Surrick describes their creative process: "[In making this recording, we engaged in]...a kind of work that is so focused and intense that years can go by in one afternoon... Extraordinary music-making requires trust... [We] live for the times when the only thing that exists right then is the music--when the instruments are speaking as if we don't exist, and they are having their own conversation." Thank you, Ensemble Galilei, for allowing the rest of us the privilege of coming along for the ride! It's simply delectable. This chamber ensemble, featuring fiddle, harp, gamba, oboe, pipes and percussion, can also be heard on their other Telarc release, "From the Isles to the Courts", and "The Mystic and the Muse: Celebrating 600 Years of Women in Music", on the Dorian label.
beautiful.......2001-01-22
Sheer beauty, as a lover of English music I found this to be one of the most beautiful of all Shakespearean albums. Such harmony, such subtlety, one wishes that the gentle night will never stop.
Excellent!.......2001-01-04
Ensemble Galilei provide some excellent arrangements of English renaissance compositions. I believe that John Playford (English Dancing Master) fans will be particularly satisfied with the renditions presented here. It is very unfortunate that E.G. did not provide more arrangements from such early music sources. Some of E.G.'s own compositions seem very weak and not in the renaissance spirit of the rest of the CD. Nonetheless, this CD is highly recommmended.
It will bring about many gentle nights.......2000-11-22
I found this album to be solid. Very sweet, but not afraid to use percussion which makes it livelier and more fun. I adore the quiet, peacefulness of the music and the flawless execution of these renaissance songs.
Visualizing Beauty.......2000-08-20
I recently had the good fortune to direct a performance of King Lear--the ENTIRE five acts, in a community theatre, non-profit setting. I used twenty-four fully committed non-actors, who for the love of the ideas, participated in this performance. The first and main challenge that I faced was, how do I go "behind" the words, and invoke the right emotions, etc., to give these actors the range and tools needed for an effective, powerful performance? Critical to this performance was the beauty and brilliance of this recording, which I used throughout the various scenes of the play. This helped the performers tremendously, creating the different tapestries in the mind of the Bard. In short, this work is real genius, that I was so happy that I stumbled across. I am now putting in our performance programs, along with our most heart-felt thanks to E.G., the name of the recording and I have copies from Telarc to sell at each performance!

This recital was recorded when April Verch, a Canadian Grand Masters and Canadian Open fiddle champion, was only 22 years old. It reveals a maturing artist with a strong technique and a burgeoning musical imagination. She was born in the Ottawa Valley and was performing on the radio as a fiddler and step dancer before her 10th birthday. Her playing reflects Appalachian, Quebecois, Cape Breton, and other North American, Acadian, Anglo and Celtic traditions, but rhythms borrowed from South America and Stephane Grappelli's Parisian "Manouche Swing" add a playful, worldly sophistication. The tunes include a selection of Verch's originals, plus Canadian reels, a French contredanse, a treatment of a Brazilian choro by Jacob do Bandolim, and even "The Old Rugged Cross." The accompaniment is deferential, which permits the precise bowing and tonalities of the fiddler to reign supreme, but Bob DeAngelis's beautifully realized double-reed solos also make a strong impression. --Christina Roden

Eh-plus!.......2002-02-07
Four words: This One's A Keeper. Tasty, tasteful and diverse, I play this one over and over without ever tiring of it, and for me that's saying a lot. This, her first US release, is so good it made me immediately start searching around for how to get her Canadian stuff. April tackles Canadian Celtic reels as well as oldtime Appalachian and Swing styles, all with a confident energy and a teasingly sly slide (especially in "Sneaky"). Maybe "Verchuosity" is so listenable because of its diversity- as you listen through the CD it's constantly changing moods, from swingy to mysterious to the irresistibly funky "Diabinho Malucco" (hey, anyone who puts a Jacob do Bandolim tune on their CD gets my immediate attention)... and all of them infectious. Her violin tone is rosy warm, her timing very satisfying. No matter what one's favourite style is, if Verchuosity doesn't reach you, see your doctor. And she's only 22!? Life is good.

Album Description
The Wizard of Oz a musical with book and lyrics by L. Frank Baum and music by Paul Tietjens premiered on June 16, 1902, at the Grand Opera House in Chicago. It was an instant hit and made stars of David Montgomery (the Tin Woodman) and Fred Stone (the Scarecrow). On January 21, 1903 the show opened at the Majestic Theatre in New York. It ran for nine months and set out on the road with a second company right on its heels. The show toured, came back to New York, toured, and returned to New York again many times until finally disbanding around 1911. Stock and amateur companies continued to present it into the 1930s when it was overshadowed by the classic MGM film starring Judy Garland.
The show was legendary for its success and its impact on American culture. It was the Cats or Les Mis of the early 1900s--but the show has been swallowed by history. What made audiences of the early 1900s devour the show and return for more again and again? In this unprecedented 2-CD setfeaturing over 145 minutes of vintage recordings and 64 pages of lyrics, photos, notes and synopsisyou can discover how The Wizard of Oz entertained the American public for the first two decades of the 20th century. And like the audiences of nearly a hundred years ago, you can hum along to "Budweiser," "Sammy," and "Hurrah for Baffin's Bay"everyone's favorite songs from The Wizard of Oz! Also included in this comprehensive collection are recordings from later Oz musicals, The Woggle-Bug and The Tik-Tok Man of Oz written by Oz creator L. Frank Baum, as well as vintage non-Oz recordings by original "Wizard of Oz stars" Montgomery & Stone and Bessie Wynn
Customer Reviews:
A Collection of the Original Oz Stage Productions.......2006-12-07
This Double-Disk Collection contains music from the original and varied Oz Stage Productions: "the Wizard of Oz", "the Woggle-Bug" (based on 'Marvelous Land of Oz) and "the Tik-Tok Man of Oz" (based on 'Ozma of Oz'). There are plenty of "Wizard" songs and music, but there isn't a lot of "Woggle-Bug" and/or "Tik-Tok Man".
I often wondered how different the 1st & Original Production of 'Oz Wizard' was different to the book, and thanks to Mark Evan Schwartz's book "Oz: Before the Rainbow" I found out for myself (WORTH A READ!!). Later I got this CD to go along with the book's stage telling (more or less) and I listened in interest to the songs which, I read, were entirely different to the future Musicals of Oz. The songs are good, but not all of them are actually completely restored to perfection, so the singing may/will sound somewhat muffled. Also, due to the time it was made (for some reason), the songs don't actually fit into the story (even the stage's rewritten story) and sound distant/unrelated. But there are songs that sound similar to the original story ("Rejoice! The Wizard is No Longer King"). CD 2's Track 3 has music played during Silent Oz Film "His Majesty, Scarecrow" on the MGM 3-Disk DVD.
The best thing about this CD Collection is the two booklets packaged along with the disks: the first (entitled "The Records") has writing on "What the Wizard Was" with a synopsis of the stage production story and "About the Recordings", a listing of all the songs on CD 1 (which are helpful for "Selection" Tracks not specifically named on the back) and notes on the songs like their origins and background. Booklet 2 (entitled "The Lyrics") has the words to the songs (in case you can't make out the words/want to sing-along). BOTH CDs include b&w photos of the actors, performance (few of which can be seen in "Oz: Before the Rainbow" book) and even reprints of a few illustrations made for the stage. The pictures are the best part of this purchase.
The Entirely Different Songs may not fit with the story, original or rewritten, but there's nothing really wrong with the music when one enjoys to what they're listening to.
I know that there is also another 'Oz on Stage' CD Collection called "Before the Rainbow" . . . hmmm, I wonder if I should get that too?
Ain't it a Shame!.......2006-05-20
I think that this is a wonderful album of HISTORICAL value. Not too many people know this, but "the wizard of oz" was made into a smash hit in 1903, but because all the history was BARELY in obscurity, hungry tiger press wanted to educate the blockheads in the world about this remarkable piece of history. that being said, david maxine collected all of the old material, such as Piano rolls (my especial favorite of all of them is "the poppy song", i LOVE the bass notes: "nnn-ded-deh mmmm-ded-deh"), and music boxes, and cylinders, and records!
however, it is quite a shame that that CRAPPY movie with judy garland pushed this lovely musical into obscurity. i would have liked to see it in my day, but it was already lost in darkness, but thanks to the highly DIGNIFIED people in the world, this cd is available!! BUY IT!!!! I *ORDER* YOU!!! YOU CANNOT BE DIGNIFIED WITHOUT THIS REPLACING YOUR "RAP" GARBAGE WITH THIS JEWEL!!!!
Why the 1903 "Wizard" was forgotten.......2004-03-20
This truly remarkable 2-disc collection of old cylinders, discs, music boxes and piano rolls explains why the 1903 musical version of "The Wizard of Oz" did not survive the early thirties. It wasn't because it was before its time or even of its time, but simply because it was way behind the times. Its producers resisted composer's Paul Tietjens' attempts to write plot-driven numbers. His contribution survives only in the incidental music preserved on piano rolls (and the most interesting element on this collection) linking very disparate and even incongruous vaudeville acts by various authors and performers that graced the stage during the musical's multi-decade run. In other words, Baum was telling a story and the songs were telling another... As fascinating as they are for historical reasons, those numbers are commonplace, mostly uninspired flash-in-the-tin-pan ditties, with timid syncopation and a stong reliance on musical clichés. There is not a single standard among them and not even a decent lyric where "fine" doesn't rhyme with "mine" and "love you" doesn't rhyme with "I do"- or even "I know you know I know you do", as happens more than once. As an assemblage of shtick pieces and ephemeral sentimental or nonsensical ditties, this collection cannot be topped and it represents a monumental effort. Without it and its very generous and informative liner notes, I would not have the same appreciation for the absolute genius of Victor Herbert's operettas ("Babes in Toyland" came out the same year) where the more memorable songs are plot-driven and introduced and linked by the most luscious, inventive and varied incidental music ever heard outside an opera house. This sort of unified concept would culminate in Jerome Kern's "Show Boat" and it remains a truth today that the integration of plot and music - reminiscent of opera - is the true secret of successful and perennial musicals, whatever the current idiom. This collection also makes one appreciate the complete originality of the Hollywood film for actually going back to Baum's books, entrusting the songs, lyrics and music to Harold Arlen, Yip Harburg and Herbert Stothart and scrapping the musical's colourful but checkered history (except for casting ex-vaudevillians as the main characters, of course!). Highly recommended for its nostalgia value, its irreplaceable rarities and a better understanding of the history of American popular music.
A long overdue revisit to a classic American musical.......2003-09-30
Although it was one of the most financially successful stage musicals of the early 1900's, very little information is presently available on the 1903 production of THE WIZARD OF OZ. In what was obviously a labor of love, David Maxine has done much to correct this oversight by releasing a 2-CD set with over 145 minutes worth of extremely rare recordings of music from this and other OZ-themed musicals dating back to before World War I. Recorded materials include vintage acoustical disc and cylinder phonograph records, piano rolls, and music box discs, many of which go back almost a century. In addition, he has included two booklets worth of historical background information on the 1903 WIZARD OF OZ production, its stars, the individual musical numbers, and lyrics for the songs included on the CDs. (Lavishly illustrated with rare old black and white photos and artwork, these booklets, and the information they contain, are themselves worth the price of the set!) Several bonus CD tracks are included that offer rare recordings by Montgomery & Stone (the original Tin Woodsman and Scarecrow) and Bessie Wynn, who was also in the 1903 cast. Not just for dedicated Oz fans, this set is a "must have" for anyone interested in the history of American musical theater and American popular culture of the early 1900's.
Long-Forgotten Broadway Hit Gets First Rate Revival.......2003-09-17
One hundred and three years ago, author L. Frank Baum published the best-selling children's book of the 20th century, THE WIZARD OF OZ. Although the book was adapted several times as plays, silent motion pictures, animated cartoons, and radio shows in the next few decades, it is the 1939 MGM film that most people think of as THE WIZARD OF OZ. The success and popularity of that film completely eclipsed the memories of previous incarnations and even the book itself in popular culture. However, prior to the film's release, there was a successful stage version which premiered on Broadway in 1903 and delighted audiences for many years, making stars of Fred Stone and David Montgomery, the original Scarecrow and Tinman. As with the MGM film, chilren who saw THE WIZARD OF OZ on stage carried fond memories of the production into adulthood. Ray Bolger was so impressed with the Fred Stone's Scarecrow, that he remembered it vividly as an adult and based his own protrayal of the character in the movie on Mr. Stone's stage version.
Unfortunately, time and Judy Garland have pushed the once popular Broadway Smash into history. It has been all but forgotten...until now.
As the show moved from theater to theater and casts changed, so did the songs. Many of these were recorded on the primative equipment of the day: Wax cylinders, 78-RPM records, piano rolls, and music Boxes, and surprisingly many of these still exist. Now, thanks to those hard-working gents at HUNGRY TIGER PRESS, you can own these historic recordings on this awesome 2-CD set. THE WIZARD OF OZ: Vintage Recordings From The 1903 Broadway Musical contains over 145 minutes of terrific early 20th century music. You won't find "Over the Rainbow" or "Ding! Dong! The Witch Is Dead!" here. Instead, this WIZARD OF OZ contains tracks like "Budweiser's a Friend of Mine", "Sammy", "Hurrah for Baffin's Bay", and "Rejoice! The Wizard is No Longer King", each one a portal over the rainbow to the Broadway stage of a century ago.
Obviously the play was quite different in plot from the movie--Dorothy travelled to Oz with her cow Imogene instead of Toto, for starters--, but the songs represent the style of popular music of 100 years ago and are collected here in a beautiful compilation. The set contains two booklets of liner notes which contain credits, lyrics, a written history of the production, and are extensively illustrated with photos and illustrations. Although the sound quality of the source material is not always up to today's standards, the songs are presented in the best versions possible, and the music is highly enjoyable. With 60 tracks and the wealth of information contained here, both written and photographic, this 2-CD set is good value for the money. A must-have for all collectors of WIZARD OF OZ memorabilia, an insightful look at popular music and Broadway history from a century ago, a glimpse into ethnic and racial stereotypes that were accepted at the time, and a curiosity for fans of the 1939 film, this set is big on appeal. Kudos to the Hungry Tiger Press for rescuing this treasure trove of musical history from obscurity!

CD-
1.Baby I Love You-A really nice ballad that shows some of her real vocals. A nice guitar sound at the beginning and a really nice melodic beat. 7/10
2.Jenny From the Block(remix) My Favorite song on this DISC- AN AMAZING SOUND with guitars and piano. The singing isn't that much different from the original except that she sings faster. 10/10
3.All I Have(remix) A very SAD(not in a good way) song of the original- the beat is dumb and so is this remix. listen to the original. 2/10
4.Im Glad (Remix) - I BIG TIME love this Version better than the original- its much slower and it has a really nice beat- great Vocals and AWESOME SONG. 10/10
5.The One (Remix) Ok Remix. It sounds a lot like Version 2 on "this is me...then" Ok remix. The original IS WAY!! BETTER.
6. Baby I Love You(Remix w/ R.Kelly) I LOVE THIS SONG- She should've released this song as a single, it would've definitely gone to #1 immediately. Great Beat I love R. Kelly's Hook. An Infectious that will be on your mind for a long time 10/10

why do people think shes ''hot'' ?!?!?!?!?!?!?.......2005-12-27
she has a semi cute face(and thats AFTER her 3 hour sessions with a make up artist!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!).she has NO BOOBS WHATSOEVER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! ive seen fat 12 year old boys with bigger tahtahs.her rump is so overrated its pitifull.ok,lets get past the physical and get with the ''reel'' reason people should be praising this VERY FORTUNATE scrub.musically, she makes me sick.i cant decide who has the weakest voice, her or janet jackson........thats actually a good thing her voice being drowned out by the beats.her lyrics are so blase and redundant that they crack me up.she has alright dance moves, ill give her that much.now,if anyone thinks shes a good actress then let me know because i have bridges and lumps of coal for sale(those lumps of coal will eventually become diamonds-in a million years-so get yours while you can).this is the generation of the ''lonely male''.any broad with a pulse will get unwarrented props, just as long as the media feeds that broad to them ad nauseam.for every rich scrub like j,theres a million poor artists whose truly deserving of a contract but wont get one because they dont shake their assets.the days of real music is slowly fading............
Great!.......2005-10-17
Great CD/DVD.
1. Baby I Love U! - This is a calm song, with a sweet melody. I liked it, but I didn't love it. Overall an okay song.
2. Jenny From the Block (Dance Remix) - This is an awesome, up-tempo, dance-heavy remix with that familiar Latin guitar in the background. Overall the BEST track on the CD.
3. All I Have (Remix)- Horrible! It had annoying, high-pitched vocals and stuff. Overall the WORST track on the CD.
4. I'm Glad (Paul Okenfield Remix) - I don't like it as much as I used to, but I still love the melody. It's kind of a slow remix, with half the chorus omitted. Overall the 2nd best track on the CD.
5. Baby I Love U! (Remix, w/R.Kelly) I'm surprised that it's shorter than the original. I was expecting it to be longer. Overall an okay remix.
The Reel Me .......2005-06-07
I bought this set @ Target mainly out of curiosity because when J-Lo was really hot in the music industry, I was not paying attention to and therefore missed all of her videos except the first for "If You Had My Love". Overall I'm happy with the purchase - J-Lo is one of those lucky people who got a record deal based on her popularity in another medium, she used Puffy & his connections to release some good dance/pop music. Because she is not a great vocalist, her videos HAD to be creative so that fans and those curious about her would support her music endeavors. That's what I like most about the videos, they are eye-catching & fun!
I'd definitely recommend this set to her hard core fans and also those who, like me, may have missed seeing her videos.
On the cd side, the only song I truly enjoy listening to is the Baby, I Love You (R. Kelly remix)
Excellent DVD with one minor flaw..........2005-03-08
Since I finally started getting into Ms. Lopez's music, I realized that I couldn't own her albums without owning her videos.
I had known that she'd put out a collection of them (all 16) entitled "The Reel Me" & immediately purchased it on sale at Target for $9.99. For the most part this is an excellent tour de force of Jennifer's videos. Her videos, like her music, are mainstream but carry a touch of creativity that make them stand out in the bland world of music videos today. There is a commentary/interview like break between every video with MTV's VJ-of-the-moment Sway & Jennifer herself. Her commentary on each video actually not only gives you insight to her as an artist (she is actually) but also gives you a totally different look at her; almost intimate.
A CD EP featuring all of the singles from her then most recent album, 2002's "This is Me...Then", are in a remixed form. Most of the remixes are very dancey, so if you have become burned out on Jennifer's more "hip-hop" remix & are looking for a return to her 'dance' form...this EP is for you. Only the tacky & almost criminal R.Kelly remake of the lovely "Baby I Love You" is the only remix travesty here. A full color booklet with different pictures from single covers & photo shoots for each single is included.
My only gripe with this collection is the omission of the original version of "Waiting For Tonight"...Jennifer instead chose to only include the Hex Hector version, which to me strips the video & song down to a faceless form.
Beyond that, this is the perfect DVD to get a good look into Jennifer, & her awesome span of 16 videos.

Incredible Variety.......2000-10-27
This CD really can't be seen as a "best of" album, because I think Norman has too many great pieces to fit on one CD, but what it can be seen as is an incredible collaboration of his many years of hard work. This CD consists of selections from his various CDs with groups/ individuals like Helicon (a Baltimore based trio), The Baltimore Consort, Alasdair Fraser, Camerata Bariloche, Pete Sutherland, Custer LaRue, and the list goes on. If these names don't mean anything to you, just trust me that they are all magnificent musicians who are well known on the international circuit. Although I own the CDs that more than 60% of these songs came from, there are a collection of previously unreleased tracks on this album that keep me coming back for more. My favorite tracks are 5-8, 11-14, and 15. Track 5 stands alone as what I consider the greatest waltz I've ever heard. Billy Comiskey is incredible on the accordian, and the Quebecois blend is something so amazing that it cannot be described in words. Tracks 6-8 are a series of reels from Norman's "The Beauty of the North" CD, and they simply make you feel good all over. Tracks 11-14 are a series of American tunes from Norman's "The Man With the Wooden Flute" album, and are a wonderful blend of upbeat little tunes. Track 15 is the first song of Norman's that I can specifically remember falling in love with. Again, I can't really describe why it's so incredible, but take my word for it, and buy this album, not just for the specific tracks that I mentioned, but for the entire experience that Norman creates. It's truly magnificent!

Customer Reviews:
A delight, a Gem!.......2007-06-12
I love this CD! I had been given it, and had apparently filed it. I took it with me on a recent trip to Ohio and listened to it repeatedly over the 1200 mile round trip. I'm still listening.
Julie Andrijeski is one of the finest Baroque violinists working on the North American continent, and also a fantastic Baroque dance instructor, and the sheer grace, elegance and finesse of her playing always makes me incredibly happy. Chris Norman's flute music has always sung to me from the many recordings he has with Baltimore Consort, and this CD has some of their flavor, but with oh, so much spirit and heart! I'm also thrilled to hear Scott Pauley and Patricia Halverson play with such gusto and heart here, too.
Cromlit's Lilt and Polwarth on the Green from Sonata of Scots Tunes by James Oswald are two of my absolute favorite cuts on this CD, making me shout out loud in the car as I was listening for the first time. And every time thereafter.
Buy this one! You will be so glad you did. It's haunting, lilting, and completely, soulfully uplifting.
Exceptional, timeless beauty with physiological effects.......2004-06-19
This absolutely lovely recording has some of the finest sounds ever made by man.
Especially noteworthy are the works of James Oswald. His delicate, graceful, and refined "Sonata of Scots Tunes" will, without fail, deeply penetrate the heart and gently lift one to finer emotions and feelings. That, in my estimation, is the function of all art: to allow the individual to transcend the limitations of his existence.
Hearing this music, among the thoughts that enter my mind are a desire to go back in time and to know the composers whose fine gifts we can still enjoy.
Great cd by one of the finest repertory groups around.......2003-06-06
I had a chance to see this marvelous group live at a concert I covered for my college paper. I was immediately taken with their unique sound, for they not only present baroque music expertly, but more like it would have sounded at the time of its creation than most of it we hear today from other musicians and ensembles. They evinced a true joy in their music making, and nowhere was that more evident that night than during the selections they performed from this CD. Something about the lilting sounds of Scottish and Irish music brings out the fun personality of this multi-sided group. I also was able to meet and interview the foursome afterwards and found them not only to be wonderful musicians, but pleasant and accomodating individuals. They even gave me a copy of this CD and autographed it. Recommended highly.
Terrific! Great fun!.......2002-11-29
In addition to their own consistently rich, sincere sound, Chatham Baroque does wonderful things with guest artists, creating different lush soundscapes with each release. This time the guest artist is Chris Norman, master of the wooden flute and member of such other ensembles as the Baltimore Consort and Helicon. The result of the collaboration is a jaunty yet elegant blend of the Italian and native folk styles popular in 17th century Scotland. This kind music is a perfect showcase for the soulful violin (or should I say fiddle?) playing of Julie Andrijeski and Emily Davidson, as well as Norman's wooden flute, which weaves and slides its way around a melody as well as any tin whistle and with more depth of tone. Patricia Halverson's gamba, and no less than three stringed instruments of Scott Pauley (theorbo, Baroque quitar and archlute), fit in seamlessly--gentle and grounding in the more Italianate pieces, lively and spirited in the folksier numbers. This breezy, cheerful CD should charm fans of classical and Celtic music alike. For an equally enjoyable recording with some similar qualities, try the Palladian Ensemble's "Held By the Ears," which also celebrates a fusion of traditional Scottish music with the high styles of the Baroque.
great Celtic music.......2002-05-24
I agree with the reviewers below me - this is a first-rate album, very enjoyable to listen to, well-played, etc.
But there is rarely a feel throughout this CD of the music being "classical baroque" music. This has far more the sound of Celtic folk tunes. Not the nonsense variety found in Riverdance, but Celtic nevertheless. As a result, it might be doubly interesting to classical music lovers to see the origins of baroque music coming out of a different tradition (or vice versa), but it might be of less interest to those with no desire to hear this style.
