As fans of Peter Jackson's Lord of the Rings trilogy know, each film exists in two versions: the theatrical one and the extended one that appeared on DVD. This luxurious box set--which also comes with a detailed essay on the movie's musical themes--features the full extended score, so many cues not on the CDs of the individual movies are included. Granted, the majority of listeners will be perfectly happy with the shorter versions of the scores--it's a safe bet that most people can live without hearing, say, Ian McKellen's 35-second-long ditty "The Road Goes Ever On" at the beginning of "Bag End," or Viggo Mortensen's performance of his own composition, "The Song of Lúthien," within the track "The Nazgûl." But if you're a completist and/or a devotee of Howard Shore's pounding tympani and overwhelming choral compositions (featured particularly prominently on disc 3, a large chunk of which is devoted to a battle scene), then this set is a dream come true. Audiophiles should note that the fourth disc, a DVD, offers the score in Dolby Digital 5.1 Surround Sound. Fire up those speakers so the whole shire can hear. --Elisabeth VincentelliAlbum Description
An epic film score receives epic treatment with The Lord of the Rings: Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings. Released for the first time on CD, the complete score for the first film in the Lord of the Rings trilogy contains more than 180 minutes of music on three CDs plus a DVD-Audio disc of the entire score in Surround Sound. Breathtaking and majestic, the 2001 Oscar and Grammy winning score compsted by Howard Shore also includes Enya's Oscar nominated "May It Be." For fans of any of The Lord of the Rings films, the Fellowship of the Ring/Complete Recordings is an essential experience.Customer Reviews:

Great Collection, Poor Packaging.......2007-04-03
My only complaint is the somewhat flimsy cardboard box that houses the contents of this musical treasure. Mine came damaged, and considering the price, I expected better packaging. This is a minor quabble on my part and NO, I havent returned it due to the fact that the music itself Is what I truly treasure, It just would have been nicer to have recieved it undamaged.

There is no shortage of Motley Crue hits collections out there, but this one just might be the definitive. All the essentials are on disc one, which is generously crammed with choice cuts from the Aqua Net years, before Vince Neil outgrew the spandex and Tommy Lee found his true calling in amateur porn--from the sleek glam rock of "Too Fast For Love" and strip-club anthem "Girls, Girls, Girls" to the runny mascara ballad "Without You" and comedy hocus-pocus of "Shout at the Devil." Having just barely survived the '80s, the band gets inexplicably serious on the second half of the collection, delving into such utterly forgettable noise as "Planet Boom" and "Generation Swine." But there's no reason to fret--the compilation is merely doing its job and succeeds brilliantly in tracing the rise and fall of a band whose legacy is turning out to be far greater than anyone ever imagined. -- Aidin VaziriCustomer Reviews:
I'll hand it to them..........2007-01-12
In short, I never liked Motley Crue in their heyday. When I was in high school, cranking up the Cramps or the Flesheaters on my Walkman, a friend of mine praised the Crue, while I thought they stunk. MTV didn't help either, rotating "Home Sweet Home" endlessly (and unfortuantely all of the hair rock power ballads to follow). While my friend Frank praised _Shout at the Devil_ and denied that there had ever been a band called Brownsville Station and insisted that "Smokin' in the Boys' Room" was an original Crue, I scoffed at his inferior musical tastes.
So why the hell would I even bother LOOKING at this collection? To tell you the truth, the omens came threefold--first, I got into Brides of Destruction. I saw the video for S.T.F.U. on Headbangers' Ball and loved it. When I got it, I found out that the outfit was lead by Nikki Sixx, and though it didn't make me like the album any less, I'd still grimace a bit and say to myself, "This band has a member of the Crue in it."
Then, when I went to see _Evil Dead: The Musical_, "Kickstart My Heart" was played during the intermission. Listening, I realized that this was one Crue song that I didn't mind so much when Frank forced some Crue on the turntable. In fact, I kind of liked it.
Last, this CD set was basically for free at a sale I came across at a CD store. Enough said--I figured that I could find at least two or three tracks that I liked.
But in listening to this collection, I've come to realize that the Crue was a band that suffered for its desire for fame. They can no doubt rock - "Kickstart My Heart" remains one of my favorites, and "Live Wire" is a juicy one. But other times their songs felt very off-the-mark, sometimes starting with a good hook but falling off very quickly. "Toast of the Town" was like this, as well as "Hooligan's Holiday," and "Planet Boom" just plain fizzled out. Some songs suffer for trying to sound too pop, and they just come across as empty.
I don't think this set turned me into a Crue 'fan,' nor am I sure that it was supposed to, and possibly a Cruehead may think that this collection is just blast after blast of Crue par excellence, but I did come out of it highly pleased with some select tracks, but also kind of thinking that they were a band who had the wherewithall to strike up hook after hook but forwhatever reason fell flat a lot of the time. Rather than distinguish themselves as a singular band in rock mythology, I think they ended up forging themselves as the prominent name of a name brand of rock, for though they proved themselves to be the better of the whole hair-metal pop-rock genre, they never fully came together to do solid music.
But then again, they had the fame, money, booze and women, and I was just a raging gutter punk, so they may be able to say that the last laugh was theirs.

Motley Crue was a band with a history Vince Neil,Nikki Sixx,Tommy Lee and Mick Mars deserve a great compilation.and yet the other compilations like decade of decadence(1991)and Greatest hits(1998) didnt do this band justice. Now comes a compilation that all bands should take notice of for the next compilation.Red White and Crue captures all of Motley Crue goin trough classics 80`s album like Too fast for love passing by the self titled album Motley Crue (1994)and Quaternary(1994 also) with John Corabi to finally come to New Tatoo(2000).
All of Motley is covered and surprinsignly the John Corabi stuff too.3 New songs were made for this album sick love song(appearently Tommy didnt play on it),if i die tommorow(Samplw Plan wrote it)and Street fighting man(a Stones cover).and there is also an unreleased song `Black Widow`from the too fast for love era that was never released. All album singles are here Dr.Feelgood known to be the best Motley album was represented 5 times on here getting most songs for one album.
The cover is enssentially a woman and its collered red and white and black. On the back there is a picture of the band. The booklet was well made with Crue members current pictures separatly and one togheter. The mini-biography of the band was good for a booklet mentionning Vince Neil was fired and more.At the end you see who wrote the songs wich songs were singles and the album the songs were on and its release date.
What else hasnt been said already?Thats right nothin`fellow Crue heads.Great for a fan and a newcomer great songs great package and all highly recomended forget about the other compilations.5 stars!

5 stars of talent, but for want of a "hit single", a "4".......2005-02-17
After spinning the disk my first time, I collared other DJs at WRSU (88.7 FM, New Brunswick NJ, live stream at wrsu.org) and we had a field day, comparing The BellRays to everyone from Humble Pie, Jefferson Airplane and Cream to an MC5 influenced by post-Bop jazz.
As you may imagine, the performances are blazing and memorable, evoking many influences but not aping anything too closely. This is re-invention, not invention, but the band injects plenty of their own personalities, and what could seem retro instead is as invigorating as fresh-brewed coffee. The one missing element is a killer song or three, material an audience could identify with the band, the "hit single" their talent deserves. In my fantasy for the BellRays' success, they write or find a song which, like "Private Dancer" or "Somebody To Love", kick re-starts their career.
If intrigued, you know you need to listen for yourself.
Thanks to fellow San Francisco Bay area musical mainstays Jello Biafra and his Alternative Tentacles label for apparently rescuing this album from import-only status.

Just goes to show what you listen to as you're younger.......2006-08-12
Disjointed rock album.......2006-05-21
Classic In It's Own Right.......2005-10-18
Why you should pick up this album: 1) Nostalgia. It will take you back to a time in music history that meant something - rocking out hardcore. It may have been considered crap back then, and considered crap now by some, but I believe this "crap" is better than much of the crap that is put out nowadays 2) For some great tracks 3) It's just good `ol fashion nonsense.
What will annoy you about this album: The skits are tied into the songs, and you cannot separate them. For instance, the opening track one is both a Beavis and Butt-head skit and a Nirvana song put into one track. This is very annoying if you only want to listen to a song and not the skits. The whole album is generally like this.
By far Nirvana's "I Hate Myself And I Want To Die" is the best overall song on the album insofar as the most genuine, and in hindsight, painful one, given the nature of the title of the song and what Kurt did to himself. But there are some other great songs, such as Megadeath's "99 Ways To Die." In general I hate rap, but RUN DMCs "Bounce" deserves a listen. Also, I don't know why Sir Mix-A-Lot's "Monsta Mack" isn't played anywhere. It is very catchy and funny at the same time, and it is one of the few, and best, rap songs I have ever heard.
I hope this album is re-released with a bonus "making of" and the skits are separated tracks from the song tracks. We need a re-release all you greedy fat cats, I'd buy it.

Blues Image - 'Blues Image/Red,White...' (Collectables).......2006-09-04
The Best Blues Rock.......2005-09-09
Pinera's guitar playing on the first album is remarkable indeed. Also, check out his lead guitar (and the piano solo) on "Fugue U/Parchment Farm/Wraith of Daisy" on the Open CD. Pinera and Joe Lala were terrific singers. The band folded shortly after Pinera left to join Iron Butterfly. Too bad. I have never found another band quite like Blues Image; they were a national hit with their blend of blues, rock, and latin sounds before Santana.
Extremely underrated blues rock.......2005-08-05
Let me quickly mention what to expect when you play this CD. Tracks 1 through 9 is their very first album called the Blues Image, and tracks 10 through 18 would be the band's third album, Red White and Blues Image. For some reason they didn't put the second album on here, and they chose to go with the third album instead. I have no idea what that second album (titled Open) is like. If it's anything like the first or third album, I'll love it, without a doubt!
The first album is packed with plenty of guitar and keyboard jams and bluesy vocal melodies all over the place. I do think they write vocal melodies in the same way Grand Funk Railroad wrote them in their early days, and the keyboards the Blues Image are using seem to be influenced by Deep Purple because they sound like something straight from a Deep Purple album. You can tell this band loves creating fun, bluesy jams.
The Red White and Blues Image album isn't quite like the debut album. It's more about the vocal melodies. I'd say every song on the third album is melodic and sometimes bordering on either soul or gospel music while mostly focusing on rock and roll, of course. The music on this album has a similar feel and atmosphere to the Doobie Brothers version of "Jesus Is Just Alright With Me" and maybe even some Three Dog Night or Guess Who similarities here and there.
It's amazing when you listen to the Red White and Blues Image album because every song seems to have very emotional singing. You can tell the band members really want the listener to feel the friendly atmosphere and the beautiful singing. The result is that the album works, and works entirely well.
Both albums feature one long jam as the last song on each album. The jam on the first album is just over 9 minutes and contains enough guitars, keyboards, and rhythm changes to make anyone who loves 70's progressive rock happy. The 8 minute jam that closes out Red White and Blues Image is more about the guitar and drums and feels slightly better constructed than the other jam, in my opinion. I'd say it also rocks more than the first jam but both songs are fun and exciting.
Both jams may include moments that might make you feel like you're listening to an early Santana album. I also hear Allman Brothers influences. You really can't go wrong with this music if you like soulful singing, strong vocal melodies, and long keyboard and guitar jamming. The Blues Image may not have been a groundbreaking band, but they played great rock music, and the band sounds like they are having fun on both albums.
The rest of the songs on both albums aren't as long. They're all in between 2 and 5 minutes. I just love the way these guys write good melodies while jamming at the same time and they have the talent to make it melodic and interesting every time. Good stuff.
This is 70's rock at its best, and I'm still surprised how much I like every song. "Ride Captain Ride" may have been their biggest hit (and probably their only hit) but this CD includes 18 wonderful tracks that stand right next to that song. Just please don't ignore this 2-album CD because it doesn't have that one hit song. You'll find plenty to like on here, I guarantee it. Highly recommended.
BLUES IMAGE ON CD-THE WHOLE THING!.......2005-07-27
FINALLY! Beats Spending $50!!!.......2005-05-04

Like his good friend Esquivel, Henry Mancini mixed some mean orchestral Christmas cocktails. But where Esquivel was possessed by wackiness and whimsy, Mancini played things fairly straight and still managed to create a sound that defined his career and an era. Sadly, the selections here are pedestrian, even by the well-trodden holiday boulevard standards. "White Christmas," "The Little Drummer Boy," and "The Christmas Song" all benefit nonetheless from Mancini's genius for timing and dynamics. Even the mundane "Frosty the Snowman" gets some new life breathed into him thanks to Mancini's arrangement, and "Carols for Another Christmas" is a good example of Mancini's hip restraint. Merry Mancini Christmas, while not the maestro at his best, still imparts some of that madcap, martini-era holiday spirit as only Mancini knew. --Steve GdulaCustomer Reviews:
