Way ahead of its time........2007-07-31

Faith No More wasn't really that successful when this album came out but then a few years later you had bands like System of a Down Incubus (maybe even Papa Roach) using the FNM formula from this period of time as a blueprint for their own success.

Incubus keeps remaking this album in particular over and over and over again with their every release. Brandon Boyd wants to be old school Mike Patton so bad he can taste it.

Great follow up to a great album.......2006-10-31

My experience with FNM was the first album with Mike Patton leading (who was not the original vocalist) was good, but the second album Angel Dust for me took them to an all new level. Very risky in a lot of ways, but brilliantly diverse and very well played with a lot of the styles of song on that record being replicated by many bands in the future.

However King for a day... did about as much in terms of progression from Angel dust as they did from The Real Thing. What they created was another journey through different sort of types of song and sounds.

From the more commercial friendly stuff like "Ricochet" and "evidence", there is a lot of stuff which is reasonably accessable (ie not as far out as the Other Mike Patton venture Mr. Bungle) but pretty different right through, they have a wonderful ability on this record to give the sounds - eg the guitar and the voice a lot of chance to shine through. And the voice on this record for me puts Mike Patton as my favorite Vocalist - already on Angel Dust he did some great work but in this one there are a lot of incredible highlights - worth it for his performance alone.

My favorite tracks on it are the rocking "Digging the Grave", "King for a day" with it's great use of the Acoustic Guitar sound which is quite refreshing but the clear highlight (which is probably not for everyone) is the Awesome slower track at the end "Just a man" with a stunning vocal performance from Patton and a sensational build up through the song using a gospel sounding chorus.

It's not a consistent album through but I think that's a lot of it's charm.

My Favorite Album.......2006-05-07

This is one of my top 2 favorite albums of all time! (along with Incubus' SCIENCE). This cd is so ahead of its time, it came out on '95, way before the new Nu-Metal are came and went. This is album is eclectic it's got all types of music in here. To people who like
many different types of music. BUY NOW! Ps. Mike Patton is amazing!

Schizo and Diverse - Another FNM Classic.......2006-04-30

King for a Day is their most diverse and my favorite FNM album. Mike Patton is in top form with his wackyness and his vocal range. They venture from death metal, jazz, swing, latin, country, R&B, grunge, funk, basically just about any genre you can think of. Maybe this album is not quite as consistent as Angel Dust, but it is even more diverse, more wacky, and make more radical departures. The best cut here and perhaps their best song ever Evidence combines Smooth jazz, R&B, and funk. Evidence is simply one of the best songs I have ever heard. I absolutely love the death metal screaming. I can always get a good laugh every time, even if I am down. King for a Day is simply too creative for its own good. If you want creative and adventurous music you don't need to look any further. King for a Day is pure bliss!

YESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS.......2006-04-01

For most people this section is purely self gratification. This is because Faith no More is so solid that there's almost no dissent to the statements of admiration.

This album is just one of 4 incredible albums by the band (I don't count the "pre-Patton" album).
One thing to note is that this is post-Jim Martin. I have come to teerms with this, but its hard not thinking about what could have been with Jim. But thats no statement of dissatisfaction with this album. Nothing could keep such an elite remaining group (plus Bungle guitarist) from making a great album. This is some of Patton's best work and one of only 4 undeservingly great FNM albums. There's only one FNM. Can't say that too confidently for most bands these days.

From the first second of the album its abrasive and testing. This album is truly a test in flexibility. It would still be considered original today.

What else.....We're better than the rest of the music world....thats about it.

A Comic-Opera Treasure!.......2007-01-28

Dittersdorf is a sort of working-man's Mozart; in fact, this opera sounds similar to some of Mozart's early operas. But Mozart sought to break the rules and to explore new musical ideas; Dittersdorf is not an innovator...yet he is no less a master! This performance, too, is a materpiece of refined (not always!) comedy; the arias include some extremely difficult vocal leaps and trills, yet the primary joy is the witty verse. W.H. Auden (no less!) ramrodded this translation to English. And Anna Russell, famed for her "Analysis of Wagner's Ring Cycle" steals every scene she's in! Ad-libbing shamelessly, her introductory aria, all by itself, is worth more than the purchase price!

an obscure delight!.......2002-07-31

Eleanor Steber's image on the cover of this set caught my eye while rummaging through the cut-out bins of San Francisco on a recent opera whirlwind. What a lost treasure this performance is - recorded "LIVE" in NYC 1965! All the principles shine, their energy ebullient. Don't hesitate, buy it and smile before it disappears.

GOD.. Personally I love EVERYTHING that comes from the UK. I'm a HUGE Fan of Coldplay, Radiohead, S Club 7, Atomic Kitten, Dido, Robbie Williams, and S Club 8 and this album just makes me love the Britpop even more!!!
The songs are really fresh and sensational. They are much better than the ones that were in Sunshine. They are more mature than before and the style is mature, too. There are a lot of upbeat songs and they just make you dance. I've watched the music videos several times and I'm learning how to dance like Calvin.. LOL
YOU SHOULD BUY THIS ALBUM!!!!!
and the next single, SUNDOWN REALLY IS THE BEST ONE EVER

"Fool No More" is big improvement over previous music.......2003-08-03

As a major fan of S Club 7, I was curious if S Club 8 could keep up the momentum created by the original seven. Unfortunately, their first album (as S Club Juniors)was too juvenile for my tastes. However, the single "Fool No More" shows promise that this group is capable of much more than the song "Puppy Love" (Ugh!) Their other release on this single, "Rush", is fairly generic but I was really disappointed with "S Club Party" which comes off as if S Club 8 was playing karaoke over the original track by the original group. Otherwise, this single is worth buying and provides hope that the new album should be quite good.

1.Fool No More-5/5-This song is the best song S Club 8 ever realeased.This song reminds me of S Club's song "Boy Like You".
Frankie and Rochelle take lead vocals.

2.S Club Party(S Club 8 and S Club 7 Version)-5/5-This song is just the best as a duet but the only complaint is,"Why didn't they sing the part Tina's doing her dance,Jon's looking for romance and etc.

3.Rush-100/5-This song is so wicked because this song shows the most muture song so far by S Club 8 because their first album was cheesy and their second album must be muture if Fool No More and Rush are in it.

"Fool No More" is the best single from them yet.I wonder if their next single is as good as this one!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fool no more (sclub 8).......2003-07-01

This is a excellent single that you should have on your cd collection. If you like grupos like A*teens,Atomic Kitten and Sclub you'll love Sclub 8. This cd is very cool because it has the song & video of "fool no more" that is Sclub 8 1st song becasuse when they were formed on 2001 they were called sclub juniors (If you live on United States you can listen to their 1st single called "one step closer" on American juniors show) but when sclub (7) split they were renamed to sclub 8 , this single is very cool because it has the dance steps to the song "fool no more", it also has a new version of sclub (7) song "sclub party" and one new song of sclub 8 called "rush" this single also has some of sclub 8 favourite jokes.

The Greatest Gift.......2004-09-23

The best Christmas gift these ladies could ever give me is another album with their beautiful voices on it, singing in sweet harmony. With new member, Amanda Cole in tow, these talented women have won my heart once more with this holiday treasure. Christmas is a special time of the year for me and my family and this album will make it that much better.

My favorite tracks are:

HAVE YOURSELF A MERRY LITTLE CHRISTMAS (I simply love how they sampled the GIVING HIM SOMETHING HE CAN FEEL beat and melody and re-worked into this holiday classic)

SNOWY NIGHTS (The melody reminds me of Surface's "Happy"; very sentimental)

MY CHRISTMAS [MY KWANZAA] (Love the sample of Love Unlimited's "Walking In The Rain With The One I Love" {originally written and produced by Barry White, R.I.P.}; My favorite line from it is: "Difference is good and it's understood that there is more than Christinas in our house/That's what makes it cool being family/You find the common ground and work it out!". Words to live by!)

MERRY CHRISTMAS BABY (Terry really tore it up on this one, good job Ms. E!)

OH HOLY NIGHT (I've heard many versions of this old standard over the years and Cindy's rendition of it is quite emotional and spiritual)

I've been an EnVogue fan since born to sing and I must say the girls have once again out-done themselves."The Gift of Christmas" is one of those Christmas CD's you must have in your holiday collection. The CD has something for everyone age 3 thru 93. Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas proves EV still has style and grace. Snowy Nights is smooth with a hip hop fizz that all young hiphoppers will enjoy. O Holy Night and Merry X-mas Baby shows the girls versitility and there's much more. EnVogue has lost a couple members, but new member Amanda Cole steps up to the plate to show the world she has what it takes to carry on the EnVogue torch. Don't sleep on this CD because two members left the group. EnVogue is still alive making wonderful music...THIS IS A BRILLIANT CD!!! Thanks EnVogue you've done it again!

"I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus", and "Jingle Bells" takes me back to a place in my childhood that I would loooove to revisit! "That's What Christmas Means to Me" , "Oh Holy Night" and "What Child Is This" warms me body, soul and spirit! "Snowy Nights", "Merry Chistmas Baby" and "With My Honey" is where I dream of being very soon with that special someone. I would recommend this cd very highly to anyone wishing to dress up in their holiday best or to just kick back with some apple cider in front of a roaring fire! Yes, the group looks different, but Miss Amanda Cole is bursting with tremendous talent, beauty and style as does all of the En Vogue family, past and present!

Great Effort!.......2002-11-21

Can't say that I'm a huge En Vogue fan...or a fan of most Christmas music in general, but I took a chance on this CD just to try a little addition to the Nat "King" Cole music I'll be listening to this Christmas. I must say, the CD is pretty darn good...the group sounds a lot fresher than they did on their last CD and the music on this CD is not all the standard fare. A little R&B, a little blues, some traditional stuff...even some Rock! I'm impressed.

Brilliant. Simply excellent. The line-up with new member, Amanda Cole, is excellent and fits in perfectly with the perfectly flowing style of En Vogue.

The old Xmas songs such as 'O Holy Night' and 'Have Yourself A Merry Little Christmas' are revamped and done perfectly. For the old fans of EV, you'll notice a brilliant suprise for 'I Saw Mommy Kissing Santa Claus'. New songs like 'Merry Christmas Baby' and 'This Christmas' are pure genius and can only show a brilliant on going life for En Vogue.

America needs more popular music like this in the mainstream. Eldridge does everything that a good musician should do. He has style, creates rich textures, has great dynamic concept, he's incredibly creative as a songwriter, he plays with good ideas, uses instrumentation to his advantage, writes incredible lyrics and trys to do something different that many people haven't done before. Peter Eldgridge doesn't try to copy someone else. He puts his own trademark stamp on his music. This album is an incredible array of sounds, that truely satisfies the listener.

Eldridge's voice is enough to send you into tears. His smooth baritone voice just washes over you. He has incredible range and unique inflection that make him a very distinct vocalist. Everything from his breathy lows to his velvety falsetto to his emotion ridden high chest voice just urges the listener to fall in love with his vocal chords. If his voice wasn't enough, the words he sings are pure poetry, adding to the intense emotion of his vocal performance.

Every track on here has some kind of instrument or melodic sound that makes it distinct. To say what tracks make the album distinct would be a very long list. In fact, all the songs are at the same high level of quality that there are no stand-outs or highlights. All the supporting instrumentalists do a fantastic job on this album and help Eldridge to create a rich tapestry of texture and sonic pleasure. Each song is expertly arranged and orchestrated, every sound matching the mood and emotion of the lyrics. The songs are dynamic, all with their own unique shape. If you could see the music, it would be a vast beautiful mountain range, each song having its respective rises and falls, but each having its own curves and all of them fitting together to make a beautiful full picture.

Eldridge's work on this album is that of pure genius. He bends the genres, creating his own unique fusion of jazz and pop. It is one of the greatest recordings I own, and I can gurarantee that it will probably one of the greatest you will ever own as well.

Ever since I met Peter in the summer of 2003, I have been absolutely in love with his stellar voice, impeccable style, and unique compositions. Fool No More showcases him brilliantly. The songs are refreshing and different from your typical jazz album (in a very, very good way), both musically and lyrically. I listen to this CD several times a week, and I highly reccommend it to anyone with even the slightest interest in jazz (you should even get it if you're not interested in jazz, for that matter). It's truly an incredible CD!

This is by far the best album that I own. His silky smooth voice and thought-provoking lyrics make this a must have album. I recommend this to people of all ages- plus he is a really nice guy.

I took a chance on buying this solo CD of Peter Eldridge after having seem him perform with the New York Voices. I am so glad I did. The songwriting is original, varied, and always interesting. The arrangements are creative and balanced, complementing Eldridge's smooth, note-perfect delivery. Every track offers a new and different delight: such as the haunting, wistful "Ming's Lullaby," the should-be-a-pop-classic "Caught Me on a Good Day," the upbeat, feel-good celebration that is "Saving Grace," the dream-like, ethereal "Interesting Person," and the beautifully written, flawlessly arranged marriage of voice and accompaniment, "Postcards and Messages." Remember that old game: "What 5 CDs would you want with you on a desert island?" Out of my nearly 2000 CDs, Peter Eldridge's "Fool No More" would easily be the first of my five choices.

But nothing earth-shattering. I love to listen to Peter Eldridge sing, whether it is in a solo setting or with New York Voices. This CD is kind of like a NYV disc, with Peter getting all of the solos. . . . He doesn't quite have the unpredictability of a Kurt Elling, the versatility of an Al Jarreau, the incredible range and diversity of a Bobby McFerrin, or any one "best" trait--that costs him a five-star rating. He just sings great, and I love to listen to him--that's why he gets four stars and my business.

I had heard several of these songs on a promotional/independent CD he was selling at a NYV concert a few years ago, so the material wasn't all new, which would have helped. He just sounds so comfortable--yes, that's it--singing his songs, accompanying himself on the piano, with some NYV bgv's here and there.

This CD is definitely worth taking a listen to if you just like to hear a guy with a great voice sing. Nothing too abstract, nothing too "cutting edge," nothing too wild and crazy--just good, solid jazz/pop sung as well as just about anybody else would sing it! Give it a shot. . . .

I have owned this CD in cassette form for over 12 years and the songs still are special to me. Having attended 2 concerts by Elkie back in 1988 and 89, I have seen first hand the energy she puts into her singing. The songs are hard hitting and her voice really drives home the words. From the title song, "No More the Fool", to "Hold the dream", the songs are so well done. Elkie's rendition of Bob Seger's song "We've Got Tonight", is unbelievable good. I recommend this CD to any one who enjoys singers like Elkie Brooks, Bonnie Tyler, Meatloaf, and others with a hard edge to their ballads.
