Making their debut studio album, New Wave produces Against Me!, raising the agressive folk-punk, anarchist protest music up from the underground.

Customer Reviews:

4 out of 5 stars Good album.......2007-07-31

If you're just getting into Against Me! from this album, you're missing out. Pick up, "Searching For A Former Clarity; 2005" and you'll love 'em even more.

Being produced by Butch Vig, this album is more radio friendly and less gritty. I still love this band, but this album is different...but in a good way.

Unlike most of the "punk" acts that are more image than substance (Good Charlotte, Fall Out Boy) Against Me! sticks to their roots and in my eyes that's awesome.

2 out of 5 stars What happened?.......2007-07-31

I've really attempted to like this album. Its just not that good. I have loved Against Me about 4 years now, but their last two CDs have just not been up to par with their earlier work. I am not the kind of person who says major labels because I still like several bands who have moved to major labels. Against Me use to be energetic, fun and edgy folk-punk. Now it is pretty much radio-friendly trash. Many of the songs just have weak, cheesy lyrics with annoying poppy choruses. This album gets 2 stars from me because it does have moments where it isn't all that bad. I don't mind bands changing style, I actually like it a lot of the time, but this has been a change for the worse. If you are a die-hard fan of the band's earlier works, you will probably hate this album. If you are just being introduced to them for the first time, you may enjoy it.

1 out of 5 stars Burnt out.......2007-07-22

Against Me! should've maybe spent more time developing this album... but I think they're in a race against time now... they seem burnt out.

Besides, how many songs can you write about being in a band? I swear to God, more than half of the songs Against Me! play are about them being in a band... a band that's different (listen to Cliche Guevera, Reinventing Axle Rose, Turn Those Clapping... etc.)

Against Me! were so incredible... but typically bands that good are done after a few years at best. I just see it fading.

5 out of 5 stars Forget what you knew and get over it.......2007-07-21

People who wants another Axl/Cowboy, go listen to those records and quit your bitching. Bands dont want to write the same songs over and over and play them night in and night out.

Anyway, with that being said, this album is great from the start (The roaring "New Wave" to the dreamlike ending "The Ocean".) The old against me sound is still there...in Tom Gabel's voice but they've grown up and fine tuned their music and grown as musicians. Their not kids anymore and Im fine with that. The production is sparkling.

Lastly, listen to this record with open ears. Dont think about comparing it to previous records and you will enjoy this. Def a must buy.

5 out of 5 stars The title is "New Wave"............2007-07-18

I usually judge a CD on it's greatness by how long it takes for it to sink it's teeth into me. I've thought some CD's were horrible and they eventually grew on me but weren't spectacular. I've listened to some that grabbed me right away and didn't let go. "New Wave" is one of those CD's.

I put this CD into my car and was able to listen to about 2 minutes of it before I had to go into work. Later on in the day, I was humming the song "New Wave" and I had not even heard the whole song yet! Every song on this CD is extremely catchy. It seems to be a little more straight forward punk rock than earlier material, but these songs blow away anything being played on the radio right now.

This has nothing to do with being on a major label in my opinion. Music is either good or bad. I could care less who is on a major or independent as long as they stay true to themselves and the music and from what I hear, Against Me! has made the best 'punk rock' CD of the year thus far.

Why you'd want to hear a band remake one of their older albums is beyond me. Go listen to those albums if that's what you want to hear. I'd rather hear a band grow and mature and change things up a bit. A song like "Thrash Unreal" is overly poppy with a serious subject manner and "The Ocean" is like some trippy Pink Floyd jam.

Forget all the past CD's and what you thought this CD was going to/supposed to sound like and enjoy!

Customer Reviews:

5 out of 5 stars Essential. .......2007-05-26

Against Me!'s pivotal and breakthrough album, "Reinventing Axl Rose" deserves so many more stars than the meager five I, and all reviewers here, are alloted. It is a hallmark acheivemnet in music, and should be recognized as such. The music contained is a blend of folk and punk, which works amazingly well, but these descriptors do the album no justice. It transcends these labels and essentially provides the lucky listener with a soundtrack to a life; homeless on the streets for no other reason than ones own convictions.
The album's lyrics deal with the hypocrisy inherent to an anarchists existence; being free of society and it's constraints, yet relying on the excess of that society to subsist (i.e. "dumpsterdiving"), being an anarchist band that is becoming famous (the primary subject of the title song), and being a person of lofty ideals and societal criticisms, but with no solution to be posed to the perceived problems. I think song number 7, "Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterious" sums up the theme of the album perfectly, but I will provide no actual lyrics or reference points to support my claim because you should listen to the actual song, and be moved by it, just as I have. I've known many friends who've commited that entire song to the back of a tee-shirt or hoody. How many bands can claim that their fans have done that? It's powerful stuff that rattles the heart, stirs the spirit, and gets the old brain juices flowing. Even if you are not an anarchist (I certainly am not), the heart, soul, and spirit of the ideals expressed on this album are undeniably beautiful, and should live on for ever.

5 out of 5 stars One of the best albums, ever........2006-09-30

This album takes so many real, raw emotions and turns them into lyrics written in a way that everyone can relate. This was the first Against Me! that I had ever heard, and it blew me away. When the album started, it wasn't what I had expected to hear from my punk rock loving friends, but once I heard that first chorus, I knew instantly this band was a serious force in the musical world. I can't explain how real and piercing some of the lyrics can be, but you would be a fool to pass up the chance to hear this album.

5 out of 5 stars Love it. Love it. Love it........2006-05-13

I love Against Me!. I love this CD. I can't say that I like one album over the other. The world of iTunes has made my attention span shorter and I like to listen to all of their albums at the same time.

My fondest memory is that of stumbling onto Impact on the Plan-It-X website. When I'd tell people that Against Me! was my favorite band, they'd look at me and think "Who is this band and is she so excited about it that she has to be an exclamation point after their name?"

I still love them, one of the few who can stand to listen to their new CD. The one thing that's lacking though is that ability to make everyone sing along.

In my hall at school, I managed to find a guy who had heard of Against Me! I had been wearing one of my many shirts when we started talking about the band. He said he wasn't such a big fan, but he liked what he had heard. I immediately let him borrow every CD I owned and a week later, he was almost as big a fan as I was. We'd sit out in the hallway each with our own guitars, and I taught him the chords to songs like We Laugh at Danger, Reinventing Axl Rose, Baby I'm an Anarchist, Cavalier Eternal, Sink Florida Sink... after a while, my whole hall knew the lyrics. We'd sit in the hallway, 5 or 6 of us, many of which had never heard a real AM! song before, and they'd sing their hearts out.

That's the amazing quality of this band. They have the ability to make even the most sensible and logical human beings, even if only 2-3 minutes, want to start a revolution.

5 out of 5 stars Against Me! Yeah!.......2006-04-13

Reinventing Axl Rose by Against Me *****

Truly One of the best albums I have heard in so long. From first listen it's a good album, but by the end of listen number two, It's a truly amazing and original album as well as band. Against Me is known for mixing hardcore/metaly punk with folkish country and making it work. At first when hearing of the random styles being mixed together it's like who the hell would do that and why, and that must sound like crap, I know I thought the same thing. But Every album these boys have releases has been great with Reinventing Axl Rose being by far the best so far. The acoustic and electric guitars combined make great. The simple bass and drums are nice. The vocals and seldom screaming is a great textured way to add to the album.

Opening with `Pints Of Guinness Make You Strong' was the perfect way to go. Easily one of the best songs on the album and the perfect one to start the album. With the western guitar playing it is a great song with a really catchy chorus. `The Politics Of Starving' is another good one to keep the pace going. Nice arrangement and the frantic acoustic guitar matches the frantic vocals perfect, making for an interesting listen. `We Laugh At Danger(And Break All The Rules)' is a decent song. Not the best and it doesn't really stick out but it's a good song, though it doesnt really take away or give any thing to the album. `I Still Love You Julie' is a great song. It reminds me of The Clash as do most of the bands songs. The punk rock vocals and lyrics are cool. The vocals are full of angst and the drumming is pretty cool. Nothing really flashy or unique about `Scream Until Your Coughing Blood' it's just a really good song. It's not catchy at all and the music, vocals, and lyrics are nothing special, but somehow it is still a really cool song. It's actually one of my favorites on the album. `Jordans 1st Choice' is a awesome song about sticking to your guns and not compremising what you belieave in. One of the best songs Against Me will ever write. It'll be hard to top. `Those Anarcho Punks Are Mysterious' is a cool song with great group vocals and it's pretty catchy as well. Next is the killer title track, `Reinventing Axl Rose.' It's a good song, but probably my least favorite song on the album. However the next song, `Baby, I'm An Anarchist' is my favorite Against Me song not only on this album but my favorite of theirs of all time. It's a love song as only a punk band could do it. Yet at the same time it has social political issues intertwined in the lyrics, as once again, only a punk band could do. Easily the bands best song. `Walking Is Still Honest' Is next, and boy is it a great song. One of the better songs on the album clearly. Nice vocals and probably the best lyrics on the album. `8 Hours Of Sleep' is the best song to close the album. It's the calmest song on the album and it's the only ballad. They kind of ease you out of the album which I think was a smart thing because what better way could you end such a hectic album such as Reinventing Axl Rose?

So as I sit back and refelct on the great music that is before me I can't help but to feel satisfied. I feel satisfied because not only is this one of the better albums I have ever heard, but one of the most original and fulfilling pieces of music I have ever heard. So for anyone who is even thinking about buying this album, stop thinking and act, you woun't be dissapointed, quite the opposite in fact. Belieave all the hype about the album, it is simply amazing. Highly recomended.

2 out of 5 stars Terrible.......2007-02-23

I bought this Cd upon request from a friend and it is terrible. I want my money back. The worst is the singers voice which makes you want to slam your head up AGAINST! the wall. His voice maintains the same scartchy, gargaly, high octave yelling no matter what the tempo of the song. Just Terrible

5 out of 5 stars Oh hail yeah!.......2006-09-12

This is just good old fashioned, in your face pissed off straight up punk, the way it should be. If you ask me, there should be more bands like this. These guys really know how to rage against the man, and kick [...] doing it. If you miss stuff like Black Flag, the Sex Pistols, and any other good punk band, you gotta check these dudes out. Not quite as good as those, of course, but [...] just the same.

5 out of 5 stars Change is good.......2006-08-21

This Cd is the best it is a turning point in there music career, the band wants there music to progress as they get older. The Band does not want to produce the same record over and over! this band is great and should be aprecieated! if they never made reinventing axl rose then you wouldn't have heard it so be greatful!!! these guys are gonna stay true to the music they make!!

5 out of 5 stars Don't believe the naysayers.......2006-08-06

I'm 28 years old. Punk has been my favorite kind of music since I was 16, so I'm obviously not new to it. I am, unfortunately, new to Against Me! I had always heard of them, but I just don't have the cash to buy stacks of records like I used to. The point is, this was my first exposure to Against Me and it blew my socks off. How could people possibly think this sucks or that it's not PUNK AS F***!? (In a modern way, at least.) This is the best punk album I've heard since Refused's "The Shape of Punk To Come" in 1998. There's not a bad song on this album, but the ones that really shine through for me are "From Her Lips To God's Ears (The Energizer)" (who would have known that Condoleeza was such a catchy name?), "Violence", "How Low", "Joy", "Even At Our Worst We're Still Better Than Most (The Roller)" and "Problems". It's been a rough past few years for punk and this is a breath of fresh air to me.

But people think they've sold out, huh? Remember when Jawbreaker came out with "Dear You" in 1995? The punks hated it. It was on a major. They said it wasn't like their old stuff. It was crucified by fans and critics alike. But guess what? It was really a great (and influential) album after all and is now a fan-favorite. Time had to be the judge.

The fact of the matter is, punk fans are terrified of change. They find their little band they like and they get comfortable with them and they expect them to pull a Bad Religion and make the same album for 25 years. (Correction: Bad Religion made the same album all the way up until Recipe For Hate, and then made THAT album over and over again until present time.) So "Searching For A Former Clarity" sounds different than their older albums? So what? All good bands evolve and not everyone likes it (check out Propagandhi for a good example of that.)

I suspect a big reason that some people don't like Against Me anymore is because they are on Fat Wreck Chords. I'm too old to worry about that BS anymore. I've got bigger things to worry about, like Simple Plan on the radio!

5 out of 5 stars Shut Your Mouth "Punk Rockers".......2006-07-27

I bought this expecting a horrible album due to the claims that this isn't punk and blah blah blah. Most people seemed concerned about them changing their sounds, but for me, someone who still doesn't own any of their other albums, this is incredible. I have too admit though, there is not as much punk as I expected. Still every song has soooo much heart and soul in every song, and the songs are all different enough that you don't get bored. Definatley should buy it.

when i first felt the need for some against me!, i downloaded all the songs off of Reinventing Axl Rose. without knowing there were different versions, it turned out i downloaded all these ones (acoustic tracks) in place of the electic versions for these songs. well bassically Reinventing Axl Rose is one of my favorite albums of all, and due almost completely to the acoustic versions i stumbled upon. those tracks are simply fantastic. they're filled with raw pasion and energy, and without them, my musical tastes would have gone starved for something truely honest and fun.

I got this cd because the reviews looked great and i wanted a nice acoustic cd to just mellow out to. When i got the cd, i was shocked! The actual music is fine, however the singer is terrible. His voice is extremely raspy, and i cant stand to listen to him. I just thought i'd put my two sense in. I dont know if there this band's regular music is good, but ill say pass on their acoustic stuff.

you need to get this beautiful cd, get the lyrics down, and then go sing your passionate heart out at a show. in today's world, few bands have such rockin music and thoughtful lyrics too. i am partial to bands with radical politics, but with this band, it's not just their politics that make them so great, but their energy and love of playing.

5 out of 5 stars Music From Other Lifetimes.......2007-07-28

I have been listening to Louis Hardin since 1974 when I was simultaneously introduced to MOONDOG and ALL GOOD MEN by Beaver & Krause - I think I must have used up all of my musical luck because nothing (including The Beatles, who are right up there next to God) has since resonated in me the way these two albums have. Hardin's unabashed musical honesty can be found but in two places, children and geniuses, and I think there must be a lot of both in Hardin. Each composition takes you on a different journey, if the listener has the courage to jump aboard; I always close my eyes, to be closer to the way the music was composed. I am particularly fond of his first album MOONDOG for a lot of reasons, but mostly I think because it was my introduction to a composer who has yet to meet his match, even within himself. As times change (and they inevitably will), other of his works will come to the fore and take their rightful place among the few that will always rise above all the rest.

5 out of 5 stars This needs a more articulate review..........2005-12-10

To tell the truth, the only reason I even listened to this disc in the store is because I spotted the cover, and wondered what the hell a guy who looked like that could sound like. I had a gushing smile on my face as I realized there was real talent and expression behind Moondog's odd facade. The first album on this disc (there are two herein) is made up of more "orchestral" material like none you've ever heard before (one of these tracks "stamping Grounds" is in "The Big Lebowski". The second album is made up of a series of short "rounds"; cyclical songs with naturally repetitive compositions (think row row row your boat, or three blind mice). Due to the familiar nature of such song forms, and the unique compositions employed by Moondog, the second album is quite buoyant and joyful. This is an all around great and very familiar listening experience, and quite a timeless set of albums. Get it while you still can!

5 out of 5 stars My favorite Against Me(!) CD!.......2007-02-14

So this album has to be my favorite from Against Me! Though it doesn't seem to be as "politically aware" as Reinventing Axel Rose or Searching For A Former Clarity, This is the only album I can listen to every single song. On the two previous albums mentioned, I skip at least 2 of the songs. A good message wrapped in some catchy lyrics and great music. Buy it.

    5 out of 5 stars Fantastic........2005-06-21

This was my first Against Me! album. A friend of mine made me a mix that had "Cliche Guevara" on it, and I was hooked to that song. I immediately went out and bought this cd and I was just blown away. I was expecting more of the sloppy, rawness of "Cliche", but I instead I was suprised to hear a lot of acoustics and a lot of great musicianship.

See, that's one thing that seperates Against Me! from most punk bands: These guys can play their instruments. It's not just powerchords and crappy solos.

Highlights are the aforementioned Cliche Guevara, Sink Florida Sink, Rice and Bread, You Look Like I need a Drink, Turn those Clapping Hands into angry fists, and the beautiful closer "Cavalier Eternal".

Now, is this as good as Reinventing Axl Rose? I don't know, you be the judge. In terms of musicianship and quality, I'd say so. But a lot of the energy, passion, and sloppiness that you hear on RAR is lacking on this album, and that's one of it's only downfalls.

All in all, this is a great album. Buy it! Also, go out and see these guys live, they will BLOW YOU AWAY.

4 out of 5 stars Punk with passion.......2005-06-16

Against Me! is an interesting band to say the least. While not perfectly punk in terms of their sound they might just be the punkest band out there right now. They play short, fast, jangly songs with impassioned, politically motivated vocals and an energy that is almost careening out of control. For a bad comparison you could take the jangle pop guitar sound of early period REM throw it in a blender with equal parts bluegrass, The Clash, and Billy Bragg and press the button. That level of passion and energy is hard not to get behind and I find myself totally sucked into it. Another element adding to overall feel is the excellent production on this album. Their previous efforts have been a little too muddy to really showcase the subtleness of the feverishly strummed chords but here they really soar.

While there's certainly a ton of energy behind a lot of these songs, they do pull off a few acoustic ballads which is what long time fans would of course expect. These tend to have a little bit more of a country feel, not really muscially, but lyrically as they tend to center around lost love. But where country ballads tend to get sappy, these songs drip with all the jadedness and cynicism you'd expect from a proper mad-at-the-world punk rocker.

As The Enternal Cowboy is the watershed album for Against Me! Their potent energy is finally presented in all its glory and they deliver another great, if short, album unlike anything else out there. If you're looking for something to expand your musical horizons but with all the burning passion of your favorite punk bands then you can't go wrong with this disc.

2 out of 5 stars Different and the same.......2005-01-31

I agree with a lot of other reviewers. This IS a punk cd. Lyrically it has it's moments. The vocals are a little rough but in this day and age of overproduction that makes little difference. Musically, they are a tight band but I have to agree that while the songs are diverse there is nothing new here. Now, it is hard to come up with original sounding punk rock these days so I don't hold that against them but considering all the hype sourrounding this band I expected something very novel sounding and I just didn't get it. If it weren't for all the internet p.r. this band is getting I don't think they would have garnered as large a following as they have. I am a victim of that same p.r. Don't get me wrong, these guys have talent and this is not a bad c.d. by todays punk rock standards. Just a little less hype and a little more substance would have been nice.

4 out of 5 stars aight, but it aint Reinventing Axl Rose.......2005-01-20

these songs are a lil more catchy but lyrics aren't nearly as touching as previous releases, especially Reinventing Axl Rose. Check that one out if you're ready to be stupified.

Louis Hardin, known to pre-Watergate New Yorkers as the blind street musician Moondog, is also a fascinating and sui generis composer. This disc collects 1969 recordings of his orchestral works and 1972 small-group recordings of the two-minutes-and-under "rounds and canons" that are his most influential work. Janis Joplin covered his "All Is Loneliness," you can hear foreshadowings of Stereolab in his "Madrigals," and you only need to hear "Theme" to hear how profoundly he influenced Michael Nyman. Simple and beautiful, Moondog's rounds owe as much to the swing he heard on the radio in his youth as to Bach's canonical structures, and they vary as little and as much as roses in a row. --Douglas Wolk

5 out of 5 stars Admirable communion with life.......2007-04-26

Blind he is our Moondog, but he does not bark for pity. He listens to and reproduces what he can capture with his ears. That means his work is a tremendous compilation of sounds from the real world, animals or just insects, his own baby and his own wife, or just some beating on a drum, or the frail dancing of a pipe along with a frog and a cricket. It is this extreme patchwork of sounds, voices, noise and music under the light enchantment from the moon that our artist is imagining in his eternal night. At least for him the moon never sets, never disappears over or behind the hills. "Surf Session" is the only piece that has some real length. The sea surf, the sea waves, the breaking of these waves we imagine along some pebbly seaside give a strange depth to the very both Asian and tremendously romantic music that manages to float forever over the rather powerful vortex of the sea, the ocean. The nearly Chinese constant grace-notes give the music a charm that is both discrete and so strong we seem to be able to imagine some Last Emperor advancing in the Forbidden City just before defeating his beleaguered wife and sons under the sign of some golden flower. The "Street Scene" is less fascinating because it is aimless, it lacks a direction and a destination? "I must never follow you and you must never follow me." He is roaming on and on, around and around, in that incessant, menacing, mechanical noise that comes up from the New York street locked up in between the walls of surrounding buildings. Can that be life? And what can it sound like to a blind man? Is it worse or less violent than what the famous Arthur Miller's Salesman felt, heard and experienced in his trapped two storied house in the middle of surrounding skyscrapers and under the crushing noise of thousands of motor vehicles? We will never know, except if we decide to do what dipus did when he realized his criminal inability to see the fate that was his. And he lived ever after like a dog in the eternal night of his blindness remembering the moonshine and the sunshine, tolerating the insults and petty assaults from those whose yes are not bleeding dead.

Louis T. Hardin did not graduate from the Juliard. He went to a school in Iowa and Memphis, but was mostly self taught. Listen to this with your eyes closed.

    5 out of 5 stars Eccentric Centrist.......2003-12-14

Odd-ball individuals are more common than geniuses, but Moondog is both. Harry Partch had the highest regard for this blind graduate of Julliard, whose fantastic get-up of skins, furs and horns might have detracted from the impact of less seminal music. Since he was immensely tall, he made quite an apparition. Moondog's primitivo get-up was odd, to say the least, but since Moondog was blind, one wonders who put the costume together. Moondog, like Harry, invented most of the instruments he played standing on the corener at the Avenue of the Americas. His music reaches back into prehistory in its effect, and has a kindness to it, if that may be a reasonable thing to say. Later, Moondog became sort of a darling of the avant garde, and composed for traditional instruments, but the earlier the recorded work, the more deep down and pure it was. The later work is slicker, but just as intelligent.

    5 out of 5 stars *tear*.......2005-07-27

so maybe against me! isn't the most musically talented band out there. they don't have the best voices, they aren't always on key and every now and then there guitars are a bit off. but they are raw, pure, and punk. maybe they don't fit the technical "punk" definition, but they have the energy, attitude and spirit of what punk is all about. there is no other band like them. they are in a genre all in their own. this cd, moreso than their others, will make you see all the heart and raw emotion that goes into their music. Just listen to "tonight we're gonna give 35%." that sh*t gives me goosebumps just listening to it and how personal it is. trust me, you will feel a connection with against me! that is far more impacting than a put-together band with a perfect, cookie-cutter sound.

3 out of 5 stars Against Me! Is Not All Or Nothing.......2005-02-19

I love Against Me! to death. Reinventing Axl Rose is within my top three favorite albums of all time. They aren't "good because they're different"; they're different because they're good. They put so much heart into so many of their songs, and don't filter it out by running it through machines in a recording studio two dozen times. I don't understand pop culture's obsession with pretending to be perfect. Against Me! has no misconceptions about themselves, and seem perfectly happy to be who they are.

This being said, Disco Before the Breakdown does little for me. I simply don't feel the passion in these three tracks the way that I do in so many of their other songs. Many people obviously do, and I respect that. However, in my book there will always be a few songs that epitomize everything that Against Me! means to me. None of the songs on this album come close. I'm a bit disappointed, but I suppose I'll survive.

1 out of 5 stars Against me is completely talentless.......2004-06-27

To say that Against Me has talent is falling to far into the "it's a 'different' sound and therefore it has character" trap. Nobody can sing or play instruments, which is somewhat important if you are going to release an album. I wouldn't drop a quarter if I heard them on the side of the street and don't want people to be fooled by these ridiculous reviews.

    5 out of 5 stars awesome.......2004-06-21

this was my first against me! album (but not the first time I've listened to them). this single has three balladish tracks, done punk style. personally my favorite is tonight we're going to give it 35%.

buy it on vinyl. its only 5 bucks or so.

5 out of 5 stars If you think youre an against me fan, youd better own this........2004-01-29

At first glance, this 3 song set doesnt look very apealing. Trust me, its awesome. If you like against me and you dont have the disco before the breakdown yet, get it as soon as possible. This is also an excellent pick for a first cd if you want to give this band a try. One that you can listen to over and over for hours.

The best damn album I have ever had pleasure of laying my ears upon.
Socially aware, heartfelt, and absolutely gorgeous.
I can safely say this is one of those possessions that help me get up in the morning.

Although, I recommend the vinyl 7" over the CD any day. Actually get them both. The vinyl doesn't include 'Burn' or 'Impact'.

5 out of 5 stars The Begining of a Great Band.......2005-12-20

One of the best things about collecting everything a favorite band has done is hearing the evolution from the rough, early days to the tight, polished band of now. This record definately falls into the 'early days' category-it alomst sounds like a demo. There are early versions of the songs "I Still Love You Juile" and "Walking is Still Honest", tunes they later evolved on their classic album "Reinventing Axl Rose". These versions are rough, jagged, and much like the rest of this record, infused with heart, intensity, and love for the music. "What We Worked For" features lyrical reflection on the love of touring and community. This band never fails to make me want to pack my car, grab my friends, and hit the road. "Y'all Don't Wanna Step to Dis" and "Impact" are frentic, fast paced punk tunes with socially concious lyrics. The record closes with the country-inspired punk song "Burn". Johnny Cash fans will hear the Man in Black's influence on this tune-not that that's a bad thing. This song will get you going-it's great played at loud volumes with your friends in the room and a drink in your hand. Great little punk EP-I would recommend it to anyone who likes heartfelt music. However, if you're a fan of the band you absolutely need this album--as Mikey said in "The Goonies": "It all starts here".
