About the Artist
"There is definitely a void of festive, drinking songs for kids," says James Dague. Dague should know; he performs for kids throughout the year as "ScribbleJim" at schools, festivals and other family events. "So I wrote a 'wave your glass in the air, put your arm around your buddy' kind of song with all the fun that comes with a sing-a-long chorus, but without the drunkenness."

Dague and his band, ScribbleMonster & His Pals, unveiled their new song, "Chocolate Milk", at Schubas Tavern, arguably the best place to see live music in Chicago. "A tavern seemed like the most logical place to debut the song," Dague explained. "This way kids could tell their friends and neighbors, 'My parents took me to a bar this weekend and we marched around and sang drinking songs.' As a parent, it's so cool to be able to share the experience of a live concert with your kids at the same venue where you've seen some of your favorite shows."

"Chocolate Milk", like the band’s 2002 debut, "Best of Friends", is designed to stimulate creative expression and encourage a child’s participation. Kids are encouraged to sing, dance, imagine and play along with ScribbleMonster & His Pals and even help write the lyrics on the songs "The World’s Greatest" and "I’m A...(Anything I Like)". Healthy eating is also a popular theme on the album which was produced by The ScribbleBooks Company, publishers of the ScribbleMonster book series.

But the music isn’t just for the kids. A bit edgier than most children’s offerings "that even a parent can love", the group’s unique brand of children’s music was once described as "Sesame Street on steroids." Dague describes their live shows as a blending of traditional children’s music, improvisational comedy and power-pop. "It’s a fun little rock show that the whole family can enjoy."

ScribbleMonster & His Pals is comprised of five veteran Chicago-area performers, clocking in with a total of 15 children of their own, more than 40 combined years of parenting and over 100 years of creating, teaching and performing music, comedy and theater. Dague, who plays guitar and sings, is joined by Brett Goral on drums and Brian Hufnagl on bass guitar with additional tag-team vocals provided by Jayne Saniat and Joyce Stuart.

EXCELLENT COMPILATION.......2007-04-11

This is one of the best compilations I've seen for this group. It compiles songs from across their career. There were a few that I wasn't familiar with, but overall most of their best and most recognized songs including "Groove City" is on here.

Very Funky Set.......2003-04-26

Chocolate Milk never gets it's full due on the Funk or the Mid-Tempo Jams but this Set showcases there Versatility."Take it Off" is a Slammin jam that wouldn't sound out of place on a Bar Kays or Cameo Record."Blue Jeans" was another smoking cut.but my favorite cut is the Mid tempo cut "Girl Callin" that was Sampled back in the mid 90's by the Group IMX then known as Immature.the Guitar Part&the Vocal harmonys on "Girl Callin" are Soulful&on point.

Do that dance!.......2002-09-27

From New Orleans, comes this cool cutter funk disc. This septet never made any super hits like Superfreak or Boogie Wonderland but they created alot of heat between the years of 1974 and 1985.
Produced by funk doctor Alan Toussaint (he produced many of the Meter's first albums), you won't be able to stand still. The drums are hard and the horns and the vocals are too sweet, especially on Actions Speak Louder Than Words and Take It Off.Let the good times roll.

Louder Than Words!!.......2001-08-23

This is a great CD for the real Funk and Soul music lovers!! "Action Speaks Louder Than Words", "Groove City", "Girl Callin", and "Say Won't Cha" are definitely solid jams on here. Eventhough their music was not as popular as other Funk, R&B and Soul groups, their cuts are just as, and in some cases, better, than the more popular radio funk hits!! You can actually feel these songs. They are not watered down nor commercially dry.

i really dig Groovy city and especially Girl callin.this band was funky.i remember the first time i heard girl callin i was like who is that? that guitar hook was smooth.

OLD SCHOOL.......1999-10-05

This is a very good old school group! I would like to see if anymore of their music is available on cd! I especially love the songs "Groove City, and How About Love! I really had a hard time finding any music for this group!

A great kids album, that adults can enjoy.......2007-01-03

Are you tired of Barney? Well this is not Barney. These songs are jazzy and rockish, and sound like a real artist - from the big world - made them. Sounds are good natured and deliver good messages, but are not 'kiddie'.

I love music of all types and I find myself listening to the way they construct each piece. For example, in 'Chocolate Milk' (available as a free download - which is what alerted me to them) as they spell out the title, each phrase builds in intensity. At the end -I- want to sing along, "I love chocolate milk!" Listen to the free download, you'll see.

This is one kids CD that I don't mind listening to when my son asks.

(Try listeing to listeinging to Barney for a couple hours on a long raod trip without thinking about ramming the Semi in front of you) - Maybe it's just me. :)

I also suggest that you buy ASAP, because I am not sure how long these will be around. Try to find them locally - I'd bet you can't.

Without a doubt, "Chocolate Milk" by Scribble Monster & His Pals is one of the best kids/family focused albums on the market. If you're looking for a quiet bed time CD full of fluffy stories about flying in the clouds and pink ponies "THIS IS NOT THE ALBUM FOR YOU". Scribble Monster rocks with solid power pop three cord hooks. This music is easy to listen to for kids and adults. Warning: listening to Chocolate Milk has known to cause feet to tap and may get you off your duff and jump around with the kids.

This is entirely the best album by Chocolate Milk. Very few funk bands in the 80s could compare their styles to the great Friction album. Only if more people knew what funky sounds and beats came from this album. It has so many funky horns and synthesizers that all the West Coast Rappers should sample. This is definetly the best funk album of all time!!!
