The very best.......2007-01-11
Sublime.......2006-03-14
What John Williams lacks in lyricism is easily compensated for by Bream and the result is outstanding.
Their chemistry is so amazing and the pieces come to life in such a cohesive way that I sometimes think it is one person with 10 fingers on each hand playing the pieces.
Not every piece is easily accessible, so give it time.
Highly recommended.
An excellent CD for anyone who loves the classical guitar.......2000-06-12
The main problem of playing a classical guitar is the genuine lack of material, apart from those (relatively few) pieces which were originally written for the guitar. Furthermore, being a fairly limited instrument, the guitar limits severely the possibilities of adapting various classical pieces which were not written originally for the guitar. Thus, Bream & Williams, set out on a mission - to achieve what is not possible on one guitar, by playing a duet of classical guitars. Hence, almost all the compositions here are adaptations, but this is by no means a bad thing - the arrangements very cleverly hides the limits of the instruments, while emphasizing it's intimate and warm nature.
Two of the most notable of these adaptations are "Evocacion", from Albeniz "Suite Iberia" and "Bajo la palmera" from "Cantos de Espana", both of which were written for piano. It is well worth mentioning that many of Albeniz compositions were based on traditional spanish tunes, played originally on guitars. Thus, by playing these truly great pieces on classical guitars, Bream & Williams are restoring some of the magic which allured Albeniz to these tunes in the first place. One might also feel these tunes sound actually more natural played on two guitars rather than on a piano.
Other interesting adaptations are the three pieces by Debussy, which are very melodic and are very suitable to be played on guitars.
I warmly recommend this excellent album for anyone who appreciates classical music played by very able musicians. I guess it's also ideal as a gift for those who like good music which isn't classical, and are interested in exploring new grounds, as this album is very communicative, although it hasn't lost any of it's integrity.

Album Description
The concept couldn't have been simpler, nor could it have been more perfect, just Tony Bennett and Bill Evans, Together Again, in the wee small hours of the morning, engaged in an intimate musical dialog, with the recording tape rolling. Originally released in 1977 on Bennett's own Improv label, Concord Records is proud and honored to make this timeless classic available again. Remixed & remastered in high definition digital it features 18 tracks including 5 previously unreleased bonus tracks, 'A Child Is Born' (Alt.), 'You Must Believe In Spring' (Alt.), 'Maybe September' (Alt.), 'You Don't Know What Love Is' (Alt.) & 'The Bad And The Beautiful' (Alt.). Not as good as the first time.......2007-03-23
I didn't find this album as moving as the first. That's not to say that it isn't very good in spots - it just lacks something.
After listening to it several times , I believe that the "something" that it lacks is two things - the tunes are not generally as good, and it was mixed differently.
While there are some very good tunes on this album, they aren't uniformly good, while the first effort featured no weak spots.
Second, Evans' piano is mixed more in the background, making him more of an accompanist and less an equal partner, except when he has a chance to improvise.
On the plus side, Evans does get opportunity to "stretch out" on a few more tunes here.
On the whole, a very good album, but one that doesn't reach the lofty peaks of the original.
Can Lightning Strike Twice?.......2007-03-10
First, Evans seems more relegated to the background. Bennett fans may be perfectly OK with that, but I was not. Several factors could be at work there - the mixing engineer, the take selected by the producer, the comping of Evans, or some mixture of the three. My sometimes fertiles imagination tells me that the producer was thinking, "Let's really reach out the Bennett fans with this one."
Second, the energy of this CD is not up to the first. The most upbeat number that comes to mind, Dream Dancing, is a lot calmer than When In Rome, so the "average energy level" of the entire CD is brought way down. Again, some people may be OK with that.
Third, the performances on this CD seem a little more "phoned in". Evans' playing is always great, but he doesn't play with the authority and fire he has on the first CD. Bennett seems a little tired or distracted. The moods he conjures up seem a bit flat compared to the interestingly dark and sometimes ironic tones he gives to numbers on the first CD. Reasonably minds may differ about that.
If you're wondering whether to get the first CD or the second, start with the first. The excitement of something new comes across and the performers are near their best. If you love it and can't get enough, you'll like this too. If you love Tony Bennett and can't get enough of his intimate "just me and the piano" sound, you will probably love this one too. If you want more of Bill Evans minus trio, you may be happier with Alone or Alone Again.

Communicating emotion with and without words.......2005-07-30
Tony is there to tell you the stories - he is singing songs , but to me he is vocalising the way he feels or talking about something that took place in his life rather than singing lyrics .
You feel it all affects him personally .
Bill supports him and also makes beautiful statements as and when required .
The arrangements are concise and focused , the feel of the whole thing is intimate .
This duo only made two albums together , which make them all the more special .
It's like eavesdropping on a conversation - one we should all hear . Buy both albums by this duo . I will still be listening to both of them ( the albums and the musicians ) in many years' time .
The albums would make perfect gifts .

This 1964 standout is named for the double-sided single that was the first 45 to place both cuts atop the country charts. In fact, they owned the top two spots on the chart three weeks running, swapping positions in the middle week! "Together Again," a ballad distinguished by Tom Brumley's weeping steel, and "My Heart Skips a Beat," a midtempo shuffle featuring Don Rich's biting guitar licks and high harmony vocals, were both written by Owens himself and perfectly exemplify the Owens writing style: simple and bright-sounding songs aimed at working-class honky-tonk patrons who wanted to forget the real world for a few hours. The remainder of the LP maintains these high standards, thanks to a strong set of original Owens tearjerkers and a number of well-chosen covers--"A-11," "Hello Trouble," "Close Up the Honky Tonks," and "Truck Drivin' Man"--that remain defining, hard-driving Bakersfield classics. Sundazed adds a pair of chart-topping singles from the previous year--"Act Naturally" and "Love's Gonna Live Here"--making this CD release a fundamental entry into any country enthusiast's collection. --Marc GreilsamerAlbum Description
Full Title - Together Again/My Heart Skips A Beat. Named after his double-sided number one hit single of early 1964, 'Together Again/My Heart Skips A Beat' is one of Buck Owens' strongest albums of the '60s, as well as one of his few records to stick firmly in the honky tonk camp. Now Sundazed brings you this reissue with 2 bonus tracks 'Love's Gonna Live Here' and 'Act Naturally', both of which were originally released by Capitol as singles. 1995.Customer Reviews:

Though singer Torme and drummer Rich were friends for years, they never made a recording together until relatively late in their careers. In this album, a new release of a 1993 recording, we hear two giants in their fields having fun together in a direct-to-disc LP which sounds like a live performance. Rich and his band cede artistic control here to Torme, whose arrangements are featured on all but "Blues in the Night," which, incidentally, is an amazing song, full of unusual sounds and tempos, lasting a full eight minutes, and featuring a solo of jazz tuba. Torme has perfect pitch, and Rich has perfect tempo, and together they create a jazz album which goes way beyond the traditional interpretations of these well-known songs, breaking new ground and leaving a legacy for modern performers to emulate.
The album starts traditionally enough with "When I Found You," with the trumpets sounding somewhat distant, allowing Torme's mellow voice to flourish. "Here's That Rainy Day" is one of my favorites here, its introduction also featuring "Soon It's Gonna Rain," followed by a tenor sax solo by Phil Woods (brought in for the occasion), which then continues in the background as Torme turns this traditional song into a slow, bluesy ballad, full of drama, long-held notes, and his lovely vibrato. "Bluesette" features a great Buddy Rich solo, which gradually becomes softer and continues in the background as the bluesy trumpets enter and Torme takes over.
"Lady Be Good," Torme's famous tribute to Ella Fitzgerald is almost totally scat, with musical references to Ella's famous "Yellow Basket." Rich plays noticeable, but not intrusive, riffs throughout. This is an imaginative, interesting, and unusual album, certain to appeal to jazz buffs and fans of Torme and Rich, a collaboration of two of the greats, whose interpretations here bring new sounds and meanings to old favorites. At this price, how can you lose? n Mary Whipple

Bobby's vibrant personality adds to the fun of this CD. He sings with passion and joy while spending the entire CD hitting on a pretty lady in the audience even making comments to her in between the lines and eventually inviting her to sing.
Neither BB nor Bobby are among my favorite artists. However there is something about the two of them together that makes this CD one of my favorites.

The line between evangelist and entertainer has always been somewhat indistinct. But as showcased on this 43-track, double-disc collection culled from his '87-'96 recordings for Elektra/Nonesuch/Atlantic, Michael Feinstein's dedication to spreading the gospel of the American song often blurs it beyond recognition. While the singer's pedigree for the task is impeccable (a long-term stint as Ira Gershwin's assistant and early career sponsorship by Liza Minnelli), his interpretations often succeed by playing off a tense axis of fervent emotionalism and a joyous sense of irreverence. If his readings of romantic standards can sometimes tend toward the precious, they're often balanced here by sheer dramatic power and telling insights ("Isn't It Romantic" fairly bristles with ironic chauvinism) and a few loopy curves ("The Mole People," the Sherman Brothers' "The Ugly Bug Ball," and the previously unreleased "Rhode Island Is Famous for You"). Feinstein's dedicated song archaeology is also showcased on several gems: "Violin," a duet with Liza Minnelli; "My Favorite Year," a rejected ballad for the film of that name; the sublime "lost" Gershwin classic "Ask Me Again."
Sprinkled with live performances (the forum where Feinstein's talents seem most energized) and studio outtakes and featuring a lengthy print interview with the singer, the set chronicles both the pioneering efforts of one of pop music's most successful revivalists and, crucially, the cream of his beloved American songwriters, from stalwarts Gershwin, Berlin, and Porter to later legends like Herman, Styne, Lane, Martin, and Mercer. --Jerry McCulley

Another great trip down the MFU memory lane.......2005-10-19
My only problem is that THE CDs ARE COPY PROTECTED! Considerable work is needed to get the music onto your iPod, if you really want the music in your mp3 collection. This is a major hassle and a surprise, since the first set in the series was not copy protected.
The best of the three Double CDs ORIGINAL soundtrack release.......2005-07-12
Indeed, this is an unbelievable collection of three double CDs packages with the complete series soundtrack, and I mean the complete music, not a tune is missing.
And this is the ORIGINAL Man From Uncle music. Let me stress the point: this is the four years ORIGINAL soundtrack with the original recordings as they were heard throughout the series, not a no-name orchestra doing personal versions of the stuff. The audio transfer is very, very good, the music from late episodes is even in stereo.
Each individual CD carries over 70 minutes of music. All in all there you have the four TV seasons main titles and all, absolutely all of TMFU unforgetable music.
This is not a chronological release, meaning, all CDs have a mix of music from all four TV seasons. Volume 1 is heavier on early TV seasons stuff, fans of Jerry Goldsmith will love it. Those of us who prefer what Gerald Fried and later Richard Shores did with TMFU music, then volume 2 is mandatory. If you are a fan, you can't miss any of these six CDs. However if buying all three double packages is too much for you, you must go with Volume 2, no questions asked. Volume three is the weakest of them as it brings "suites" and a whole CD with "The Girl From Uncle" soundtrack, but you have a bonus "Open Channel D" beeper.
Each package is gorgeous, each with a glossy color booklet with extensive liner notes with details on how each tune was written to a specific TV series episode and how it was used onwards. You have bios on the composers, on how the recordings were made, even an overview on how many instruments were available in each of the years the music was recorded.
So, throw away your Hugo Montenegro Man From Uncle CD, this is the REAL thing.
