there are alot of songs on this cd...thank god...because the are all, except for one, amazingly wonderful. Great lyrics...that mean alot. I cry, i laugh, i smile, I dance depending on the tune. Christina knows what shes doing and she works it well. She is strong and smart and her voice is incredible. As much as i love to dance to her songs, the ballads are even more amazing as she stirs your emotions with the combination of insightful lyrics and perfect vocal delivery. I don't think I have ever played a cd so many times in such a short amount of time. I am addicted

I was surprised at just how Xtina bared it. The cover was mature,

I ususally like Aguilera and I need a song to practice for dance so I bought this one for "No Other Man" figuring I would like the other songs as well. I was so wrong. I hate the rest of them.

Christina Aquilera has gone from being a genie in a bottle telling us what a girl wants to being a sexed-up dirrty vixen in this c.d. Christina is amazing. Stripped has heart, and is very powerful. Stripped has to be my favorite c.d. that Christina Aquilera has ever done, and I think that it is because everything that someone could possibly go though is on this one c.d. If you are thinking about purchasing this c.d.-DO! See Christina Aquilera live in her Back To Basics Tour 2007...amazing live show! SHE IS THE BEST!

Different image, but similar style of songs.......2007-03-02

I think I enjoyed this album from all of Christina's other albums. For some odd reason, and embarrassing as it sounds, "The Voice Within" was my favorite track on here. That certainly doesn't make me sound all that manly, since the song is about giving a young girl some boost to her self esteem, but the rhythm and lyrics were compelling to me. "Beautiful" was a radio hit for a long time, and I still enjoy hearing it once in a while. Christina's whole "Dirrty" image portrayed in this album seems to be more of a hoax than substance, but you can't knock the girl for trying to spice up her image. Even with her attempts at changing her image to a bad girl, she still does her best in the powerful and gripping ballads. Her dance tracks are decent, but if you enjoy her ballads, some of her best are on this album.

Gavin Degraw's CD Chariot is the type of CD that you can listen to over and over again. Its fusion of different genres allows this CD to appeal to a wide range of audiences and demographics. The songs tell a story of love and love lost and gives you the feeling that you are actually walking in his shoes. Although the beats are great, Gavin's voice and writing ability are the selling points for this CD. This is evident when you listen to the stripped version which is an acoustic set of all his songs. This added CD alone is enough reason to purchase this CD.

I Love You.......2007-02-21

Pick this up not knowing it was a two disc special, just wanted to see what it was all about. Fell in love instantly. Gavin DeGraw is the new Van Morisson! . . sensitive, passionate, lyrical. He doesn't possess the typical pop idol voice or much less a crooner's voice, what he has is a lot more. Every emotion, every nuances of each lyric is riding on his unabashingly strong vocals, raw with feelings worn on his sleeve. Makes a girl weak in the knees! Chariot/Stripped is his defining album wether he becames more famous or just a one CD wonder. The second CD is like icing because it showed the process of coming up with the finished product. It was a nice bonus, highly recommend you listen to this one also. Each song so masterfully crafted, so poetically written, most are about longings, falling in and out of love but my favorite is "Over rated." about how after meeting that special someone, everything else seems so ordinary. So for all of you who are in love, pre-falling in love, post break-up, or in the process of breaking up, this one's for you, come on, it's okay to be sensitive, it's okay to sing along, just make sure you're in your car, alone, commuting from work, with the windows closed.

This one's a Winner.......2007-02-17

I bought this CD for the song "Chariot", which I heard every day at work. I love that song, but I had to ask a co-worker who sang it! When the CD arrived, I couldn't wait to play it. I was delighted to discover that the whole CD is excellent, and Gavin DeGraw is no "one hit wonder". The entire work is great listening. The bonus CD is very good too, although I prefer the original recording, personally.

My impressions on Gavin's first CD..........2007-02-05

Follow Through - 4.25 stars. I love this song. It's so innocent.

Chariot - 4.5 stars. We've all heard this one a million times. I think it's a stronger song than Follow Through but they're both good.

Just Friends - 3.5 stars. This song is weaker than the 2 previous tracks. It has alright lyrics though.

(Nice to Meet You) Anyway - 3.75 stars. Stronger than Just Friends, weaker than Follow Through. It makes for a decent song though.

Chemical Party - 3.5 stars. This is a good song. It speaks about a girl who has fun at a party and enjoys everyone but Gavin. He's drunk and she is high...too high to realize him.

Belief - 3.75 stars. This song is kind of weird. I don't really know much about it besides some person defended and captured Gavin's heart...But the lyrics: "When you came to my defense/With a knife/In the shape of your mouth/In the form of your body..." doesn't make too much sense to me. I do like the ending though.

Crush - 4 stars. Thank you, Gavin. You delivered another strong track. I love the composition of this song. Once again, good job!

I Don't Want to Be - 4.25 stars. Gavin's first single. It's a great one at that. Gives off a good message.

Meaning - 3 stars. This song doesn't really do much for me...it's skip able.

More Than Anyone - 3.25 stars. This song is a step up from Meaning but that's not saying much. It really drags on...

Over-rated - 4 stars. This song gets a higher score than some because I really like the lyrics.

The average is 3.795454545. Naturally, I'm going to round up to 4.

Final Grade: 4 stars.

Is Good.......2007-03-19

Yet another live Stones album, but it's good. Like most live albums from these guys, you get a combination of spendidly done covers (by the world's most underrated cover band) and Stones standards. My favorites are: the grinding rendition of Street Fighting Man, the fresh delivery of Shine A Light, and the must-have pairing of iconic band with iconic title on Like A Rolling Stone. If you are looking at this with any consideration at all, go ahead - you can't lose. This also comes with the reassurance that even though this band really hasn't given us much new worth listening to in about 25 years, at least they haven't lost their ability to put it out on stage (at least, as of the mid-90's when this was done).

Cool CD of Lesser Known Works.......2006-12-26

A decade ago, the Rolling Stones put out their "Stripped" CD. It still stands on its own merits after the intervening years very nicely, thank you.

What sets this apart from other of their live albums is some of the lesser heard music. First and foremost, a Dylanesque version of "Like a Rolling Stone." The Stones cover Bob Dylan's iconic tune--and do it well. If done poorly, this would be a joke; but the Stones do it well and it becomes something of a tribute to one of the greatest songs in rock `n roll history.

Other songs that the Rolling Stones have covered over time make this a most enchanting CD: Buddy Holly's "Not Fade Away," Robert Johnson's "Love in Vain (and notice the banter here)," and Willie Dixon's "Little Baby."

Then, of course, is the Rolling Stones' own music: "Street Fighting Man," "Shine a Light," "I'm Free" (a golden oldie that wears well with time), and "Angie," among others. What is especially nice about this CD is that the spotlight is not so much on the iconic songs as on lesser played and known treasures (and that includes other tunes such as "The Spider and the Fly," "Wild Horses [not one of my personal favorites]," and the wonderful "Sweet Virginia"). Instead of just playing the Top 10 hits from their library, they branch out and focus on a broader representation of their work.

All in all, one of their best live albums. . . .

Masterful--Guitars Come Alive on this Stones Album.......2006-10-26

This is a wonderful addition to the Stones legacy--with emphasis on the acoustic guitar. You can hear every strum, every nuanced lick by magicians Keith and Ronnie (and sometimes Mick, I would imagine, plus very sharp harmonica) that is sometimes lost in the electric versions, classic and irreplaceable though the originals are. Nothing will take the place of the originals, but these acoustic tracks are so different and enjoyable that I consider this a MUST-HAVE for any Stones fan. Five stars all the way!

Stripped is the Stones getting ripped in Amsterdam!.......2006-10-26

Recorded live in Paris and Amsterdam, Stripped sets a mellow mood for any Blues fan. Reminiscent of the MTV Unplugged albums of the early 90's, this album has been widely over looked. It contains a great selection of classic Stones songs including Let it Bleed, Dead Flowers, and a haunting version of Slipping Away. This album is quite delightful and a shining light for anyone's collection.

Great, but kind of predicitable.......2006-09-24

The song selection and "unplugged" vibe of this album is great, but it sounds kind of phoned in. I was hoping for something along the lines of Nirvana unplugged where the artist really strips down and exposes the raw, visceral, fragile, beautiful, and pure origin of his muse, or at least something approaching that. Instead this kind of sounds like the boys got together on the weekend, had a couple beers, maybe smoked a joint, just chilled out and threw down a jam. I mean it's The Stones; it's great, and the set list is incredibly delicious but the way it's being performed is more laid back and relaxed than immediate and vital. Highly recommended, highly enjoyable, but don't expect it to reveal any new layers of the material as it's being presented here.

Every song was a certifiable hit back in the 1980s--the kind that MTV played incessantly (back when MTV actually played videos). Granted, superstars like Madonna, Prince, and Duran Duran are nowhere to be found, but this 15-track line-up of Brits, Yanks, and Aussies is a pretty accurate representation of an era. Twenty years have passed since then and times have changed, but the tunes haven't. Not much, at any rate. The majority of these acoustic interpretations may be slower or quieter than before, but they're hardly radical reinventions. ("No One Is to Blame," "Rebel Yell," and "These Dreams" were all recorded live.) Take Rick Springfield's "Jesse's Girl," for example. It sounds much the same as ever; the original Dr. McDreamy has simply sprinkled a little twang around the edges. The versions that deviate most include Berlin's "Metro," which speeds things up to fine effect, Tommy Tutone's "867-5309/Jenny," which sounds rougher and more rugged than the gold single, and Billy Squier's "Stroke," which makes a surprisingly successful segue from pop-metal to Delta blues. Then there are the voices, most of which (Colin Hay and Tommy Heath aside) sound as youthful as ever. On "Missing You," for instance, John Waite channels his twentysomething self with ease, while on "Our Lips Are Sealed," the Go-Go's Jane Wiedlin sounds downright girlish. Great pickup.......2007-07-08

OK, are we all ignoring the elephant in the room? The acoustic version of Asia's "Heat of the Moment" is easily the best version on the album. At risk of sounding melodramatic, that may be the best remake of a song that I've ever heard. Worth the purchase of the cd, that's without considering the great versions of "Your Love" and "Missin You."

Remember the days when music television actually played videos? Wish it were so again? Well then you're probably in the age group this CD would most appeal to, and it does as a huge hit. I couldn't stop listening to it for hours after I finally got my hot little hands on it. I was singing along on my trip down memory lane. One word: AMAZING.

Most of these tunes acquire a nice, attention-getting emotional edge in their acoustic settings. "She Blinded Me With Science" is hilarious no matter what you do to it. Enjoy!

An 'Sripped' Walk Down Memory Lane.......2006-11-02

If you didn't like the eighties music, don't torture yourself. If you did, I believe you will have a enjoyable trip down memory lane. Personally, I have enjoyed many of the 'unplugged' approaches and most of the work on this compilation is at a minimum, not bad. It is choppy and obviously not intended to be released together, but this only makes you tolerate a few questionable songs and then you get to hear some pretty good 'revisions'. I think that Rick Springfield's Jesse's Girl ruins it for you as the first track because he did a great job of changing the song without losing the song. They include Heart and 'These Dreams' which I believe is a off ..The Road Home.. a CD that any Heart fan must have in their collection. Again, if you love eighties music, I think you will want to add this one to the collection.

Acoustic? Hardly.......2006-09-19

"Stripped" is definitely the right word for these tracks. "Acoustic" would be incorrect in some cases, as for Thomas Dolby "acoustic" means using only one synthesizer.
As stated correctly in some reviews, many of these tracks are just live versions using fewer instruments. However, this also means that the songs are missing that heavy, multi-tracked, over-produced sound that defined 80's rock.
The tracks range from horrendous ("The Metro") to awesome ("Your Love"). Be warned - when you "strip" something down to its basics, you can see how beautiful it is, but you'll also see some obvious flaws. Without the benefit of fade-out some tracks have awkward endings ("Heat of the Moment") and others don't seem to work well in this format ("Rebel Yell"). But a great song is still a great song.
If you liked "Down Under" or "Our Lips Are Sealed" before, you'll probably like them again in a rawer form.

coulda been a classic.......2006-07-07

I've been a fan of Bryan Ferry and R.M. since the 70's.. "The Bride Stripped Bare" is another high quality solo effort released in 1978.The "back story"-Ferry went into "self exile" in L.A., removing himself from the lingering unpleasentness of his recent break-up with model Jerry Hall. Not a happy period for the man, as the somber looking cover photo suggest.Ferry goes back to having a mixed assortment of originals and other artist's songs- mostly R&B, with an Irish folk song"Carrickfergus" and Lou Reed penned number"What Goes On"
. For once Ferry seems not to be hiding behind his "world weary lover" character, as songs written by him are more personal and less detatched."When She walks Into The Room", "Can't Let Go" and my fave "This Island Earth"- are all some of his best he's done. What I think detracts from this album is the use of the L.A. studio musicians. Waddy Wachtel is fine for Linda Rondstadt,, Warren Zevon and the like, but his playing here is dry and sadly inferior to say the creative flourish of Phil Manzanara or Chris Spedding. There is a sterile quality(?) to the whole album except "This Island Earth" which retains a Roxyish layered dream-like way to it and is indeed, somewhat ruined by Waddy's pedestrian playing. This is a good CD. Every time I hear these songs I think "Too bad he moved to LA.". PS.-Not an LA basher- I grew up and was living in So Cal when this album came out.

An intriguing and enjoyable entry in Ferry's catalogue.......2005-11-09

This album has a reputation of being Bryan Ferry's darkest and least esoteric of all his work. This is partly true, but only partly. True that the cover design is thematically very dark and some of the lyrics are darker than usual for him especially on "Sign of the times" and "This Island Earth", but the album still has all of Ferry's trademarks: meticulous production, unique arrangements, excellent musicianship and a prevalent sense of romantic longing. What sets this album apart from all of his other work is how eclectic and more raw than usual it is. It starts with the dark rocker "Sign of the times", shifts to the epic and wonderfully arranged "Can't let go" to soul "Hold on I'm coming/That's how strong my love is" to blues "The same old blues" and the unique synth-driven atmospherics of the closing track "This Island Earth", to a few other genres in between including astounding funk "Take me to the river". By being a mix of six covers and four originals, it allows Ferry to produce a unique and highly intriguing album full of his unique production touches and ability to handle several styles vocally and musically, but it is not more or less esoteric (or as some call it more human) than any of his other works. What it is is Ferry's last album as a solo artist before entering his sonically fog-shrouded, experimental phase (which was equally intriguing and produced masterworks such as BOYS AND GIRLS and MAMOUNA) and an underrated, extremely enjoyable piece of eclectic music filtered through Ferry's unique style.

Ferry's Best Solo Album.......2005-07-23

This is Ferry's best solo work. The production doesn't sound horribly dated like some of his 80's and 90's stuff; the covers aren't bizzare or kitschy ("what goes on" is wonderful, as is "carickfergus"). But the originals are what makes the album the best of his solo lot with "Sign of the Times" and "When she walks in the room" standing out as compositions worthy enough to be on "Siren".

Ferry`s - The Bride Stripped Bare, is an album which really shows Ferry at his best in terms of his early solo work and succesfully bridges the lean mid seventies period. This album contains an eclectic selection of covers (mostly R&B and Soul)and originals supported by a strong cast of Brit Rock champions. Highlights include Can`t Let Go, a great driving song, What Goes On from Velvet Underground, a beautiful rendition of a traditional Irish lilt "Carrickfergus" which Ferry takes ownership of. Sign of the Times which sounds like it should have been on Roxy Music`s Siren. An intense, theatrical, This Island Earth and some sublime vocal performances, Thats How Strong my Love Is. Same Old Blues. Ferry demonstrates his love of R&B and his ability to mimic the genre. An overlooked album which did not receive the sales that it should have.

The most honest CD Bryan Ferry has ever recorded...........2002-01-22

This is an exceptional CD. Bryan Ferry has displayed many flashy images - but this is the closest we may ever get to his real heart. Recorded the same '77 year Punk Rock hit home, Ferry shows awareness - almost sympathy - with that movement. It may have been temporary, but the result is loose thrilling fun. 'Sign of the Times' & 'The Same Old Blues' rock without a care. It's so much fun to hear Ferry this way. He covers the Velvet Underground with a powerful 'What Goes On' - for my money far superior to the original. The acoustic 'Carrickfergus' highlights what Bryan Ferry truly is - a great soul singer. There are some duff tracks ('This Island Earth' & 'Can't Let Go' are dull). But the best tracks are as fun as any Roxy Music album, and promise a unique brave musical future.

Sadly, it wasn't meant to be. This record bombed spectacularly. Ferry then reunited Roxy Music, creating a Make-Out Music Monster that sold enough (and sucked enough) to make happy millions wonder what all the fuss was about with the astonishing original Roxy. Despite all the bags of cash, Bryan Ferry wouldn't regain his musical self-respect until '93s "Taxi".

You have to dig hearing these classics in a fresh version. Accept's Balls to the Wall is just haunting. One major oversight is Firehouse's When I Look into Your Eyes, that was a repeat from Vol.1 and makes this lose a star.

Hit or Miss.......2007-03-15

I'm a fan of all 3 of these CDs as I like of the bands on them. Like the other 2, I find this one to be pretty much hit or miss as well. I think the best new tracks are Tommy and Jack's High Enough, Eric Martin's Just Take My Heart and Autograph's Turn Up The Radio. Eric Martin still has the voice to pull off probably every song in Mr. Big's catalog acoustically. Some of the new tracks are still really good like Jani's Heaven and Kix' track. Other tracks have been offered up before from various sources so who hasn't heard Tesla's Signs a million times and seen Poison's MTV Unplugged show?

Low points on this compilation for me are what I consider to be one of the worst tracks I've heard in years in Slaughter's Up All Night. It's from a live performance and it's just dreadful. I don't know how this even made it onto this CD, it's laughable. William Hung could have done better with this track. I don't think Ratt's Way Cool Jr is much better.

Very odd arangement for Accept's Balls To the Wall, but it's not bad... just unexpected.

Again, like the other 2 CDs in this series there are several new gems, some re-releases and some garbage. For fans of the genre like me, I think they're a lot of fun though.

Great CD!!.......2006-12-10

First, the positive review of what I have heard from my new CD. They picked a great list of songs. "Silent Lucidity" is my favorite because Geoff Tate can sing absolutely ANYTHING, no matter what! And it's about time that "Ballad of Jayne" by L.A. Guns was properly put where it belongs, and not ignored. From the many awesome Great White ballads, they picked the best.

Ok, now for the criticism. Night Ranger and Alias should not have even been selected for this CD. And "The Way It Is" by Tesla was the absolute wrong song to add. "Love Song" was the most popular ballad by them, and it should have been on this CD. I was highly disappointed with that choice. "When the Children Cry" was not even sung in tune with the original at all. I didnt even know what song it was until the chorus.

But overall, I was happy with this CD and would suggest it to all the power ballad lovers out there.

This is not metal, it's old school rock and roll. Yes, it's all good music by very talented artists, but it is NOT Metal. It's not even heavy ROCK for pity's sake, yes, it's sappy ballads...

Great Alubm, but "Metal" and "Mania"?!?.......2006-01-03

I really like this album...but another reviewer has it right, it's simply another metal ballads compiliation...albeit a VERY good one. Each song is a really inspired take on the original, some in intimate performance settings, others apparently in studio. The only song that didn't impress me much was Extreme's "More Than Words", but being an accoustic song to begin with, all they could really do is an a cappella version...which didn't impress me much.
If you are a child of the 80's hair-band, metal, and stoner music era, this is an album you will likely enjoy. It's ill-thought out sequel is *NOT* on my suggested disc list, so be thorough in your pre-purchase consideration.
As a hobbyist guitar player, I really enjoy hearing the different takes on these songs. Definitely on my favorites list!

Acoustic power ballads.......2005-09-08

Some don't like metal associated with 80's hair rock power ballads, hey whatever. Very good acoustic performances give a new life to classics from the past. VH1 might have considered a more definitive title for this collection though.

Lacks original feel.......2005-08-13

Not too bad of a set list, but some of the songs lack the original feel. The main ones are: Don't Know What You Got (Until it's Gone) by Cinderella and When the Children Cry (White Lion). Children Cry was a dissapointment. The original had feeling in the tone, structure, and melody. In this version, M. Tramp sounds bored.
When I Look Into Your Eyes is still lame, and I mean lyric wise. I swear if I knew better, thos words were written by a 4th or 5th grader. However, the vocals on it are powerful.
They could have chosen a better song than I Saw Red for Warrant. That version is available on their greatest hits cd. The one they should have added was the acoustic version of Blind Faith. Wow, that was so much better than the original. You have to buy the single of We Will Rock You in order to hear it, and it is worth trying to find a copy.
Silent Lucidity sounds really good, as to my surprise, Sister Christian by Night Ranger. I was never a fan, but eh...the song is decent. His voice sounds a little raspy, but doesn't hinder the tune.
More than Words by Extreme is without the guitar...and...it works, mainly because it is a dominant vocal song.
Tesla's tune doesn't belong on there. It's a filler. I know they had better ballads than that one. That also knocked a whole star for me. Fillers are common, but when it's picking greatest hits type cd's, there is no reason for filler.
Overall sound quality is good...some songs are low such as Poison's Every Rose, but that's because it was recorded back in 1991 on MTV Unplugged. Oh well, I heard there is a DVD coming out...should be interesting.

I remember when I was younger rockin' out hardcore to some 80s metal. It was one of the highlights of my childhood looking back. I was definitely excited to hear them "stripped". It was an amazing compilation of the songs I grew up on as well as the more mellow sound I've grown accustomed to lately. It was a major mix of nostalgia and excitement that took me back to a time when I had no worries. I highly recommened you pick this one up for a trip down memory lane.

80's hair metal unplugged.......2006-09-09

With Metal Mania Stripped Vol.2 you many 80's hair metal classics served up acoustically. While none of the songs improve upon the original versions, this cd does make for an enjoyable listen. The songs lose the powerful feel that many of the originals had and go for the intimate feel. Some of the highlights are: Here I Go Again, Talk Dirty to Me, Heaven's Tail, Once Bitten, Twice Shy. I didn't really care for Round and Round, done in this way, but for the most part this is an enjoyable cd. The cd will mainly interest fans of the 80's hair metal genre.

A fun album..........2006-02-19

...especially if you like anachronistic covers. Okay, they're not covers per se, they're rerecordings by the original artists, acoustic-style. Still, mellow hair metal has its charm, mainly as a guilty pleasure.

Do you remember watching your favorite bands absolutely embarrass themselves in front of coffee sipping yuppies who could only see these bands in this kind of venue because they know they'd get their tail kicked at a real show? There's a reason MTV Unplugged isnt around and this CD proves it. Just listen to the samples here first before you give away your hard earned minimum-wage money.

A Gem From An Underrated Band.......2007-03-07

Who is Bettie Serveert? I'm surely not the only one to ask that question when stumbling upon this band. If you don't know the answer to that question, then you don't know what you're missing and you need to buy this CD/DVD. If you do know the answer, then what are you waiting for?? Buy this disc now! I really enjoy the sound of this band--from Carol van Dyk's vocals to Peter Visser's guitar work, Bettie Serveert is a great listen. I can't wait for them to tour the U.S., because judging by the DVD (included with the CD), it would be one very enjoyable night out. This band is way underrated and underappreciated. You shouldn't pass up the opportunity to add a quality band to your collection. BTW, I also only recently bought Palomine, which I also like very much (its harder edge adds a nice contrast in sound to the mellower sounds on Bare Stripped Naked), and am adding Attagirl to my collection. Who is Bettie Serveert? A band that deserves far greater recongition--even if it only comes one Amazon customer at a time.

THE BEST YET from a killer band - Bettie serves indeed!.......2006-10-04

ok. I admit that since their 1st album this has been one of my favourite bands, with some albums moving me more than others, as is only natural. But my desert island bettie serveert would now begin here. On a lot of levels it's simply more refined, and the acoustic underpinnings allow the songwriting to shine through on every cut. "Brain Tag" was brilliant the first time they recorded it, and remains so in this mellower setting.

If bettie serveert albums were bottles of wine I would say they were all good years, if recent, while this one has matured beyond it's years and become an almost miraculous vintage. These folks are producing music that is comfortably at the level of their heroes (yes, it's true). They are not in business to hide what's inspired them, but any obvious lineage is taken to a place that is very much their own. Reviewers who think this is just a light weight but enjoyable band are wildly missing the mark.
All the guitar work on the album is just beautiful, including some very fine bass playing that sweetens the pot considerably.

If bands were vacuum tubes I'd say Bettie Serveert had joined the ranks of Mullard, Amperex and Telefunkin - primo new old stock! I thought of that because sonically the cd is gorgeous - it's so good that I'm using it while auditioning headphone amplifiers. Dare I hope for vinyl...?
